Do you still feel hungry?
Makulafamy replied to anymouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at a pretty good restriction. I think I could use just a tad more...but... Here is a great example. Last night for dinner I had about 1/2 a cup of pork sirloin and 3/4 mashed potatoes. I was not hungry after I ate that. Like everyone else says, you dont get that "oh my gosh I am so full I am going to burst" feeling anymore, but once I have eaten the right amount with my restriction I am satisfied and not hungry. I am still physically hungry after Breakfast and lunch, but that's just bc I choose to eat small amounts to keep losing until I find my sweet spot. To answer the other question about when do you know to stop? Well, the other night I had this wonderful chicken breast with ham, cheese, and tomatoe on top. About halfway through my chicken I could feel my body telling me to give it a few minutes. I ignored. Then, with about 1/4 of the chicken breast left, I could feel that my pouch was full...there was a slight feeling of being uncomfy...not really a pain, but a pressure. I again just wanted to finish my chicken (must clean plate when meal is yummy mentality), so I forced it down. 5 minutes later my body forced it back up. Lesson learned. -
Hidden Costs?

Thank you Fran! It's unbelievable to me! I asked so many questions because I like to be prepared as best I can. I have spoken to my surgeons office several times and they never mentioned certain things, as the surgical center sends me a surprise letter less than 2 weeks before surgery. They will be billing me for my anesthesia and anything over the norm which is the 20% I pay. I have Anthem BC and they have been as helpful as possible on their part. I just think that maybe my surgeons office could have given me a heads up, something along "Hey, be prepared or check into XYZ." But nothing was said. They have been through this hundreds of times and I just find it frustrating. People need to know to prepare financially. It's not good for their mental/emotional health to get so close and the keep having the rug pulled out from under them. I do hope future banders ask more questions and ask several times! Something I learned, get as much as you can in writing!!!!! Thanks again for the wishes Fran. Have a great day -
I'm scheduled for a bypass on July 22. This has been a 7 month journey since making the decision to have wls. I'm a 39 year old single mom of 3 and school counselor. I've only told a couple of friends, my parents, and my boss. My ex and others will just have to wonder, I guess! I'm making the decision bc I want to be the best mom I can - active, fun, and healthy. After a heart issue, rheumatoid arthritis, an orbital tumor, stomach ulcers, a huge hernia, and sleep apnea I'm ready to shed this fat suit and take control of my life and health. I'd also like to feel confident enough with my body to travel more, date, and be strong and healthy. I'm nervous about the pre-surgery diet that starts in 3 days and about the length of recovery. I don't want to spoil the last few weeks of my kid's summer vacation with feeling crappy and being stuck at home. I'm praying for a week of yuck, a week of better, then feeling ready for anything (within reason). I have really enjoyed this group/app and have been seeking information and reassurance here for months. I didn't actually 'join' until yesterday, though! Any advise about gastric bypass recovery, things to expect, and success stories will be appreciated!

Getting back into this...!
Paris79 replied to Lapbandmistie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I was banded in June of 2006. I was down to 150 and so many things were spiraling out of control. I got engaged October of 2011 and thought ok great I will get back on track. I did for a little and then I fell off again. And now I have to get back on track. I am slowly creeping up to my old weight and I really don't want that at all. But I didn't know how to start over again. Can I do the liquid diet like we did in the begining or just try to eat smaller portions? I had my band completely unfilled bc I was having so much gas pain and plus went to Paris on my honeymoon. And I have had two fills but don't feel the effects of it. Any suggestions would be great. I am figuring out that I really do need the support of other people besides my husband which don't get me wrong he is great but he backs off if I get mad or upset about dieting. -
I had my surgery July 9th and my weight loss was great. I started my birth control once I got my period, stepped in the scale one morning and all of a sudden I gained 6lbs. The weight is coming down about a 1lb a week and it's very frustrating. Has this happened to anyone? I feel like getting off the BC but if I got pregnant that would be a whole separate problem. Please help Kellee

Weight Gain With Birth Control
nerdyandfit replied to kelleeh11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really want the paraguard over mirena because I had a really bad reaction and gained lots of weight on bc pills. Hormones are not for me. I have a fear the iud will move or I will get pregnant around it. I am hesitant to trust paraguard alone for this exact reason and I don't want to have to use a backup form of bc forever. Nadz, did you check your string monthly and this still happened? -
I'm so excited, nervous, happy scared all at the same time. I called BC/BS and was told I was approved. I can't wait until I'm scheduled. I'm looking forward to my new birthday. :mad2:

I after to agree with one of the other posters. Lap Band is something to take very seriously. You have to be commited in everyway to be successful. On that note, being diagnosed with pcos myself, I can understand your struggle. Metformin also did nothing for me. None of the pills and diets worked. With so much stacked against you its hard to lose weight. Trust me, I totally understand. Then trying to throw getting pregnant in the mix.... forget it. My Dr at one point told me that we would not help me get pregnant until I lost X amount of weight because the risk of sever complications was high. I did have to agree with him but it was horrible the first time he mentioned weight loss surgery. I was 271lbs at that point. I too have never had a regular cycle and had little hope after 17 years of getting pregnant. After more depression and more failures in dieting, I finally got the band. #1 to be healthy. I had given up having children especially since I was pushing 34. Each time I went to the Dr, something else was wrong. High blood pressure, high blood sugar, sore knees, bad skin.... the list goes on and on. I had surgery 10/2009 at 291 lbs and do not regret one single moment!! It has been the best decision I have ever made. Within 4 months I stopped all 7 of the medications I was taking. I never actually had cysts in my ovaries and was cleared of pcos. Fact: most people diagnosed with pcos do not actually have cysts or they can clear up. So I went on birth control because I was still having irregular periods. I stopped taking my BC on Nov 24, 2011 and found out on 12/26 I was expecting my first. I understand that each situation is different, but after 17 years of heartbreak and tears, I can finally say "I'm gonna be a mommy"!! If you are prepared to work hard nothing is impossible!!! Good luck and keep us posted on our decisions!! -
Feel like a failure :(

It gets better. It is actually liberating when you get to day 7 or so. I was like this is amazing that I am doing this! I cheated day two with 2crackers bc I thought I would throw up but after that I haven't cheated. I am on day 9. Good luck -
Hello everyone! I've decided to have the lap band surgery probably in October or November of this year -- Statesville, NC. I have found out that my health insurance will pay 90% of the cost. I've been "dieting" my way up to 267 lbs and I'm finally fed up. This is it. I've already been to an information session and everything....this is the right thing for me to do. I just wanted to say "hello" and sort of introduce myself. I'm 40 years old. I have 2 kids -- 19 and 9 and I've been dating a wonderful (supportive) guy for 1 1/2 years now. I want to lose the weight for me. I'm tired of being tired....if that makes any sense? :-) I look forward to hearing any feedback you may can share with me to sort of ease my nervousness about all this.

My Pouch Is Trippen
katiemay0101 replied to FinerWoman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery was 12 days ago so I am still on protein shakes. Every single time I take that first sip and it hits my brand new baby pouch, the old stomach growls and growls, then it stops. My kids say it reminds them of our obnoxious cat that meows and meows until he's fed. LOL -
Sigh....YES but at the opposite end! I keep trying to get them to STOP sending them to me! I use a different Protein shake now and it's worth it to me to pay the $$ bc I've never liked the Premiere Protein! I've asked them to stop twice and just got another delivery today! Anyone in central to southern CA want some premiere Protein shakes????

Your body is literally in shock from surgery. It's trying to figure out what the crap you did to it, lol. And it will feel somewhat weird for a while, as all of your organs and bones and muscles try to adjust. I was on my period when I had surgery and I ended up bleeding for two weeks, then didn't have a period for over a month...when my doc put me back on my BC pills, things started to straighten out. Major surgery like the sleeve is a pretty large trauma to the body. Things will straighten out!! As long as you know you aren't pregnant, you're fine.

Names of insurance companies that cover the sleeve, please?
Mom26 replied to sparker525's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield Empire PPO. We're under the police insurance - but I know a lot of the BC/BS plans cover it. Good luck! -

My sister-in-law and brother-in-law work on SHAPE in Belgium. Boredom and head hunger go hand in hand. I always tended to eat at night.... Watching TV..... while my family slept. I totally QUIT buying JUNK FOOD. Can't have it in my house bc it calls my name. I have never been a breakfast eater. I like breakfast food..... I just don't like eating in the morning. Like I sai, I like to eat at night, so this is what I do.....I drink two cups of coffee every morning, and that keeps me "full" until lunch time. That is when I eat my breakfast. I eat again when I come home from work . That is my lunch. And then I eat later that night. This is my dinner... But that way I'm eating twice at night when I always wanted to eat anyway. You have to remember why you started this process and had WLS to begin with....you weren't happy or healthy, right? Those chips, cookies, chocolates, etc don't make you happy.... They are filling a void. Everything you walk into your kitchen, you should pick up an apple. Looking at the apple, you should ask yourself, "am I really hungry? BC, if I'm truly hungry, I'm going to eat this apple." 9 out of 10 times, I put the apple down and walk out if the kitchen. Also, I found I needed to exercise. I was a certified couch potato. Started exercising two months before my surgery, and haven't stopped since. That's a good alternative to boredom/snacking. Please stay in touch. Don't fall backwards. STOP now and RECOMMIT. -

Wow!!!! I'm also so inspired by your posts and this one is a great example! You look wonderful! So happy & healthy! Look at how far you've come with hard work! I am on exercise restrictions bc I've had an enlarged spleen since one month post op, but goodness I need to work out bc the skin is just gross, with you you can't even tell or imagine you were ever over weight! Congrats girl! PS have you had much hairloss? I am having it rough, lost over 50% of my hair so far all in a month's time! :/ keeping my protein high but sometimes these things just occur! -
um yeah. i have been avoiding the mall at all costs lately, bcs i am a compulsive shopper, but i KNOW i dont want to buy anything until i am at my goal weight. then im getting myself an entirely new wardrobe!

OH I LOVE NSVs: Here are mine (even though I havent lost a lot of weight) my neighbor was walking down the street the other day, hadnt seen her in a long time and she was like OMG you look like you have lost a lot of weight...plz tell me what youre doing cuz I need to be doing it too...lol 2. I had to go get a bridesmaid dress for a friends wedding...we tried on dresses last dec. and I tried on the same dress in a size 24 and it was tight....I bought my dress last week in a size 20 and it has to be taken in!!!! 3. I had this fav pair of jeans that I bought from lane bryant....well I jsut had to toss them bc ppl kept telling me that they were sagging so bad in the butt...lol so now I am back in my old pair of fav jeans but even they are too big:) 4. my boss has been out sick for a LONG time and she came back the other day and said...wow kanina your face looks so skinny...... 5. I got wistled at by a construction worker granted he wasnt so hot but I havent been wistled at in FOREVER (except for by my hubby).....
-
I guess a NSV that we really dont think about is self confidence. I was on the phone with one of my best girls the other day and she was like you know I have really seen an improvement in your self confidence and at first I was like is that bad and she was like no its awesome the old Kanina is coming back to us!!! Even though I'm not back to what I was just pulling old clothes out of the closet and being able to wear it again is an awesome feeling! I was posting before about my bathing suit...well I couldnt find any suits ANYWHERE its like everyone stopped selling them period. So we went out in the boat a few weekends ago Ive been trying to learn how to kneeboard...I couldnt do it bc everytime we'd start to go my bottoms would come off...no one could see me but it was so embarrassing but deep inside I was like heck yeah no more lanebryant bathingsuits for me!! I ended up having to tie my bathing suit with hair ties...lol

My lap-band/PCOS/pregnancy story
mandimedic replied to Connorsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello everyone: I have been searching these forums for some advice. Just quick I will rewind and give all of you my history. I am 30 i am recently remarried and we want to have kids. I was Dx with PCOS about 10 years ago from my GYNO never really treated my just told me i needed to lose weight( always around 200's). When i was 18 I had a successful pregancy and now he 12. I never thought he would have been and only child. Sorry I am rambaling. Ok now more present time over the last 2 years we tried to concieve but nothing. I did Metformin, clomid, synthroid and even tried femara but nothing. I only had 1 period naturally. So we decided that weight loss was going to be my only hope. I had LapBand 04/2010 i am almost 3 months post op and still no Aunt Flow. HELP?? I have had breast tenderness like crazy but no AF. I am not on BC because it makes me sick but we are protecting against pregancy at least for this year. So I guess I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a chance that I will resume normal cycles. Should I we an RE now or wait my year? If any one has any advice i would appericate it!! -
That's Ok, but you missed my point entirely!! I have been Obese for many, many years and have become so sick and tired of it that there was very little question whether I would get the band or not. My love for food certainly was not going to get in my way of a better life. When I had pre op Physch. eval., after the session was over, one thing she said they look for is whether there is any resolve in your decision, or any uncertainty. So, tongue in cheek, if you are happy being obese, don't get the surgery. BUT if you are fed up being fat, like me, then there is really not much I'm going to miss being thin.
