    1 week into my Pre-op

I'm on my day 5 of 20 (liquid diet). It's been hard, more so working from Home, but I'm keeping myself busy, and it's been bearable. I have 2 from 10 pre-op kinesiologist sessions left, then they Will send me exercises to do at Home pre-surgery. I have also been downloading post gastric sleeve recipe books, and the Baritastic app (recommended!). Have a lot of support from My family and no kids, so I've been just cooking for myself. (And I also have The liquid fart issue). I'm from Chile, don't know how different The pre and post procedures are. Greetings! Sent from my 2107113SG using BariatricPal mobile app

    Periods (women only please)

Hey All, I have the Mirena IUD. (Currently intimacy inactive) I got it after having my baby end of 2019 I went from having NO cycle 20-21 To having WEIRD cycles and unpredictable spotting AFTER sleeve 12/21. In the past I did use the Nexplanon (arm) no issues or than (vacation coloring) would be a orange brown hue.

    Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*

Glad to find this thread. I’m definitely a slow loser and I’m trying really hard to stay encouraged. I was 255 my day of surgery. 6 weeks out I weighed in at 249. Not even 10 pounds. And I’m doing everything that I was instructed to do. Staying on the diet, watching my portions, tracking my meals, the 20 20 20, getting the right amount of protein, drinking enough fluid, exercising every day. I am honestly very discouraged to not see any real movement. But it is encouraging to know that I’m not alone. But I’ve definitely had moments where I wondered, what was the purpose of going through all this and getting the surgery, if almost 2 months out, I’m not even at 15 pounds weight loss? The doctors and dietitian say I’m not doing anything wrong and to be patient, but I feel it’s much easier to say that than it is to be dealing with it. Just had to vent that. Now I’m in tears smh. But I’ll keep swimming.

    May 2022 surgery?

Good luck to all of you. I had my bariatric sleeve on March 10 and let me tell you all, best decision I ever made. I already lost 26 pounds. I was 215, my advise to all of you will be 3 or 4 hours after the surgery get out of the bed and walk. Walk as much as you can, so all the gases come out.

    Nonstop Cycle

I had similar problem. Thinking surgery has something to do with it. I had super heavy 3 to 4 days then light 3 to 4 and it kept going round in circles. Took almost a month, but mine finally stopped and it's been about 8 days. I keep worrying it's gonna come back, but so far no. I have a mirena iud, so haven't had regular cycle in like 10 years so it was super scary to me. Saw my gyn couple days ago and she wasn't too worried. She said if it keeps going for 3 months then call her. One thing they did tell me was to try 3-4 advil every 6-8hrs. Said it helps contract the vessels. I only took it once, not sure if it helped but mine stopped shortly after. Hope that helps...

    Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*

I was a slow loser from the get-go. I was about where you are in the same time frame (it's been several years since my surgery, so I only have my monthly weights - not every week anymore - but at four weeks out, I was down 16 lbs). I went on to lose all of my excess weight, 235 lbs. I've since gained back 20 lbs, although it's super common to have a 10-20 lb regain after hitting bottom. I did have stalls - not too many the first year - maybe two or three. I had a lot during year 2, though, as I got closer to a normal BMI, and they lasted a long time. Every time I hit one I'd think "OK - I guess this is it", and then the weight loss would start up again. My weight loss finally stopped at 20 months out. if you stick to your program, the weight will come off, whether fast or slow.

    May 2022 surgery?

Hi I'm new here too I'm having a gastric bypass on the 27th of April I'm excited and nervous at the same time I've already lost 10 kilos on my own since December last year but that's about all I could do on my own hoping is surgery will kickstart me and help me keep it off. Wish you all luck with your surgeries as well🤞😊👍
  10. SleeverSk That was beautiful i am impressed with you i felt a little bit like that when i had BOTH HIPS replaced i went through so much emotionally that i ( 10 yrs, in recovery for alcoholism) i sat in my recliner and ate morphine like they were candy because i didn't want to "FEEL" so i numbed my feelings for weeks and then i ran out of pain meds and all the feelings i numbed came flooding back and let me just say i was a mess the morphine was gone they were no longer delivering them to my house and i was " on the pity pot for at least 3 weeks and wanted to die because i still had no meds and no one wanted to help me aside from my wife who anyway i was able to get my shi*t together and take the meds like they were prescribed , my life got better and i got better and if you feel like you won't get better you're wrong I'm telling you, you will it's all part of the process be gentle with yourself you deserve to be happy and deserve to be loved even though you may not feel it now theyll come a day you will look back and say " all the kicking and screaming i got through it " youre stronger then you think , so keep your head up you are so worth it. 11. After my surgery last year, I started weighing everything I ate. I wasn't logging, but I kept track of protein and total calories in my mind, at least roughly. As the months passed, I began to weigh just at meal time. This was more to be sure I didn't hurt myself, rather than for tracking purposes. It's been almost a year, and I've reached my target weight. I had hoped to get 10 pounds or so below my target, but I've been stuck about where I am now since Thanksgiving. Where I am now is not a bad place, so I'm not too worried. However, I've developed a habit of grazing between meals. It will be a handful of pretzels or dry cereal straight from the box. Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal is like crack cocaine to me. I could stand in the pantry and eat half a dozen fists full. None of the grazing is tracked. (On this matter, you folks are serving as my father confessor.) I'm going to have to be more careful if I put on several pounds.

Question about hair loss after sleeve

Sleeved in 2017 then bypassed in 2019: I’ve only had very minor shedding near my temples but I could just be lucky. I also did I a lot of research and consulted my dermatologist about the issue because I really didn’t want to experience significant hair loss. I relied on the LLysine and Iron studies the most to guide my decisions on which supplements to take. Good Luck ❤️

    Intake

When i left hospital they said drink 10 of those little cup of liquids every hour it was hard to try and do ..i go to my post op and told her i can drink 10 in a hr ...she said i was only to do 4 a hr...i was pissed but luckly she said it wouldnt have streched my stomach cause its liquids .....but back on track with the 4 cups Sent from my SM-A326U using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. it's actually a lot more common to not make it to goal than it is to lose too much weight. Only about 10-15% of bariatric patients make it to a normal BMI, let alone lose too much. You will find some who do - but they're few and far between.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I am 10 days post-op today. The first 3 days after surgery it felt very difficult to get fluids down. I was getting worried. At my appointment with my surgeon on post op day 4 he did a barium swallow. He first asked me to drink a full medicine cup of the barium. I looked at him like he was nuts, and asked if he was sure. I mean I had only been hearing “sips only”. But, the gulp of barium went down easily and went straight past my pouch as it was supposed too. I got to see the fluid pass thru on the screen, which helped me mentally know things were ok in my belly. Lol. My surgeon said I had likely been swallowing air when sipping which made the pouch feel full. So he advised after drinking, to keep my lips closed and forcefully swallow. I did that for a bit and now feel like I drink like I was able to before surgery. My next post op appointment is today and I am hoping to graduate from liquids to purée. Good luck to you!

I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)

Had my surgery 11/28/2019. Changed my life for the better. The added bonus of being healthy? all the compliments 😋 I was 130kgs. I have lost approx 55kgs. I am currently 74kgs and still going strong! Struggling with the last 14kgs but I'm getting there! Here are my two before and two after!
  17. Hi! I'm new here, I just googled "Weight Loss Surgery Discussion Boards" and this is the first site that popped up. I hope I'm in the right place... I had Open RNY GB in May of 2002. My weight the morning of surgery was 310lbs. I lost over 100 lbs in the first 10 months and got down to my lowest weight of 153lbs about 2 years after surgery. I was feeling fabulous! However, over the years, I was able to maintain at about 170-180lbs consistently, until I gave birth to my son in 2012. After he was born, I wasn't able to lose all of the weight I gained during pregnancy. I was around 200 - 205 lbs at my lowest after he was born. But, due to some other life circumstances and traumatic life experiences that happened to me in 2016, I have gained back over 100lbs and am now sitting at about 268lbs. I'm crushed. In May 2021 I decided to research revisions and found a surgeon in my area (St. Louis, MO) who specializes in revisions and I found out that I am a candidate for a revision to Duodenal Switch. After meeting with a dietician for 6 months, psychologist, primary care physician, etc. I'm finally having my revision next week... April 14, 2022!! I'm so scared and nervous this time around. I don't know what to do or where to go. I wasn't this nervous before my first surgery and I think it's because I didn't have as much to lose back then when I was 21. Now I have a 10 year old son who is everything to me and I'm terrified that if something goes wrong, he won't have a mom. Has anyone else in the forum gone through this and if so, can you please share your experience with me?

    pain medication

I actually got my medical marijuana card back in 2019 when i got diagnosed with diverticulosis. and it worked amazing for the first year or so. After that it was no longer affective. I started to run into problems when i would use it and it would cause pain. no idea why and no doctor to see about it since technically marijuana is still illegal federally. But i switched to High CBD to low THC products and it helps a bit but not much.
  19. Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone has some insight into losing weight before surgery and your BMI being too low to qualify. My BMI is 39.9. The doctor would like me to lose 10-15 lbs. That would bring my BMI down to about 37. I don't have any other medical conditions (High blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea). It seems like 40 BMI or higher is required to be approved by most insurers. Has anyone else run into this situation? My BMI was 50 when I had WLS 20 years ago so losing the pre-surgery 15 wasn't an issue. Sent from my Pixel 4a using BariatricPal mobile app

    May 2022 surgery?

My surgeon said in general, sleeve patients lost about 10% less weight than gastric bypass. But he also said that's the average. He said he has seen patients who are really motivated and disciplined actually lost the same or even a little more. Depends a lot on the person.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Yes I am! On day 2 of liquids prepping for a 4/19 sleeve surgery. It’s been a little rough dealing with the hunger pains. I’m a little encouraged to read most people have an easier time after that!
  22. 12/14/22 doing well very happy best thing I’ve ever done wish I’d done it 10 years ago! I love the fact I eat very little! I tried this for years just to feel starved! I’ve lost 55 lbs. 70 from highest weight! Feeling real good!

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

My surgery was on 3/3/21 (bypass) I am on regular foods except for tough/stringy meat, raw veggies, breads/rice/pasta, candy and fruits with skins. I am doing ok so far. Protein seems to have a weird/bland-like taste that I am not enjoying so some days I am having a hard time getting my 60+ gms in. Most days I just don't feel like eating...it has become a chore to do so. I have lost a total of 31 lbs (12 with the pre op diet and 19 post op) so I am loving that! Just wish food tasted better! I am happy to report that with the weight loss my feet don't scream at me when I get out of bed in the morning 😁
  24. my surgery is tomorrow as well. 10:30 am. i'm so nervous but i'm so excited to finally start taking care of myself.

Stall or I am done loosing?

I’m at 8 months too. I had to be gentle with myself because I got Covid (masks off at school). I honestly gained 10 lbs eating nothing but l/s chicken broth. There’s always going to be something, but I have to put one foot in front of the other to get to my goal. I found that tracking my food intake is helping again. Just keep trying stuff to see what works for you. You’ll find your weight loss sweet spot.
