I have personally been using the keto diet to lose weight and it's been pretty 'easy' on most days. Low carb means I can't enjoy the pasta and bread, but high protein and fat means I can still have a ton of other things. My normal daily diet, as of late, is usually a vanilla protein shake for breakfast, tuna with some mayo, sriracha, and lemon juice for lunch, and low-fat yogurt for dinner. Though, there are a ton of options -- these are just work for me and lets me hit my macros that I need. I have slipped up, but it's realizing that its one mistake and that isn't going to define your success in weight loss, is huge. You can take that mistake and continue making more, eating bad for the rest of the day, week, month, etc.. and then you will be right back where you start. The other option? Realize that you had a weak moment, don't get down on yourself too much, and move on with the RIGHT foods. You can do this!

I had a mini gastric bypass and after the surgery I was told I needed to take 2 weeks off. I thought I’d be fine after 1, but now I get it. Having extra time to heal and build back some energy is very important. @fiddles - just a very heavy, uncomfortable feeling. It’s like I can feel food sitting in my esophagus. When I first started on liquids earlier in the week, I could tell right away when I had enough water. But with the liquidy yogurt, it’s been harder for me to tell right away.
-
Mine told me I could add those protein shakes too because I had trouble drinking the water.. or had helped tremendously I start the solid liquids ie yogurt tomorrow.
-
My DR allowed greek yogurt and cottage cheese for RNY patients that early out. Only 2 oz at a time, but I pretty much lived on those the first week (in addition to protein shakes).

I’m 6 days out of my mgb and food has been playing mind games with me. I don’t really feel hungry, but making meals for my family (I have 4 kids and a hubby) and not being able to even taste it to check the seasoning, etc. is hard. My head is screaming at me for food, but my stomach says “no ma’am”. I don’t really feel hungry, but at the same time my body feels starved for nutrition, despite getting in enough fluids and all my vitamins. On a positive note, I ate my first real “food” this morning - some heavily watered down Greek yogurt with a half scoop of unflavoured protein powder. It was about 1/2 cup and took an hour to eat, but I got it down alright. I have noticed, however, that I’m not getting that full stomach feeling until it’s over full. This is probably because it’s still swollen and healing. How is everyone else doing?

I am ok with the shaved ice and I do better with cold liquids vs room temp I was told i can have boost glucose control and carnation healthy start which are helping I keep forgetting the tea ... ..and have bouts of hangry because everybody else in the house must be fed. This zero yogurt i have Monday is going to be the best ever lol. Didn't realize how emotional I would be and how fast the weight would be coming off even before surgery i lost 7 lbs from Friday to Monday. I have a heightened sense of smell for food for some reason. I keep getting random painful hiccups and only two of my incisions hurt but the others itch like crazy which I know signifies healing but oddly enough where they injected my blood thinner days ago itches more than anything. But I'm trying to stay positive ..and not bite somebody lol

I am on my liquid PreOp diet (can have 2 yogurts or 1 protein bar/1 yogurt per day) and I have had diarrhea. Actually it's either diarrhea or constipation...no in between!
-
I posted earlier saying my first two days were rough, not gonna lie but suddenly by day 3 and forward and felt sooooo much better. I am still drinking protein shakes and water and broth and having a bit of yogurt too. Noticing the hunger that comes on is real...real as like before, however the stomach WILL say no after a certain amount of intake..That’s what it’s all about. Feeding yourself healthy things. I’m 10 Pounds down and feel better already. My sips don’t have to be tiny as I had feared, they are normal , just no chugging. No regrets !

February Surgery ?

Hey everyone I have a question. Probably TMI so I apologize in advance. I’m on day 6 of my 10 day pre-op diet. It’s not liquids only like others. I can have a certain amount of fruit, yogurt and sandwich meat per day for each meal. I can also have unlimited amounts of foods like pickles, celery, cucumbers and so on. But y’all, I have had straight diarrhea for the past several days. Did anyone else experience this? I don’t feel sick to my stomach but I have diarrhea several times a day. Just wondering if this is a normal thing. -
Liquid diet struggles

Yeah, I'm allowed to have soups (including creamed), jello, smoothies, yogurt, etc. But there are so few options that are savory. And yes, I have to strain out chunks too. It's for a full 14 days. Last night before surgery it's two clear protein drinks (that I hear taste awful). Just thought maybe someone had an idea that's better than mine lol. -
Yesterday Thursday, Feb 13 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1.25 yr PO Sleeve / 116.0 lbs ---------------------------------------- The Kid commented that I eat soup "funny": I have my fill of broth, THEN I eat the "good stuff". Liquid diet struggles

I am not sure what your dietitian recommended during your liquid diet phase. (Ours gave us a menu). Mine is 10 days, first 7 is liquids, such as protein shakes, broth, water, jello, yogurt smoothies, and they even mentioned creamed soup, just make sure its no fat/no sugar and to strain out any chunks it may have. ((But then 3 days before surgery its clear liquid only, water/broth )) Each Dietitian/doctor is different. A friend of mine is on clear liquids only, for 7 days. -

How do you psychologically deal?
catwoman7 replied to TheAngryMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to think eating 3000-3500 calories a day was normal. It's not. I now eat 1500-1700 to maintain, and I can OCCASIONALLY go over that and still maintain my weight. If I go over too often in a given week, my weight starts creeping up. That's actually a lot more normal. before I had surgery, there were a couple of days when I paid a lot of attention to what my female co-workers ate for lunch. There were a couple of them who ate what I considered "normal" lunches. A sandwich, a bag of chips, a couple of cookies, maybe an apple. Of course that might have been less than what they would have eaten had they gone to a restaurant for lunch - which might have been something like a burger, fries, and Coke. But MOST of the women I observed ate these ridiculously small lunches (or I would have considered them so at the time). A thing of yogurt with half a bagel. Or half a sandwich and an apple. Maybe some raw vegetables. I was actually pretty surprised by that. I think the women who ate the "normal" (e.g., heavy) lunches were probably super active - or were blessed with really strong metabolism. Most of the women ate really lightly, though - pretty much the way I have to eat NOW to maintain my weight (and none of these women are WLS patients - they're just "normal" people...) -

Last few days: Breakfast: 1 egg with half slice American cheese Lunch: 1 oz refried beans with sprinkle cheddar cheese, 1 oz avocado, 1 ounce sour cream Dinner: eggdrop soup with protein/collagen powder Breakfast: 4 oz cottage cheese with pureed pineapple Lunch: mashed cauliflower and parsnips (so much better than potatoes! So yummy!) Dinner: buffalo chicken dip Breakfast: 3 oz yogurt, 2 baby food (apple peach spinach pouch) Lunch: string cheese and applesauce Dinner: pureed lobster bisque (was so good I ate it too fast and got the sweats lol) Breakfast: 1/2 banana with 1 tbsp peanut butter Lunch: Yes! Brand soup (cauliflower and roasted potato) Dinner: refried bean plate as above. I've only been on purees/soft foods for four days so that's the basic run down. But I'm satisfied and happy! I don't snack in between right now because I was doing poorly on my fluids and it helps to have more time in between to drink more fluids. I hate protein shakes so viscerally much, I bought Genepro and have been just mixing that in my fresh iced tea. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk -

For those who find straight protein drinks gag-worthy too sweet try these hacks: 1. Combine in varying strengths with FF Fairlife Milk. 2. Combine in varying strengths with decaff coffee and decaff tea. 3. Mix with Greek yogurt. 4. Mix with cottage cheese. 5. Mix with instant pudding to make protein pudding. 6. Mix with hot unsweetened cocoa in water or Fairlife milk and use the protein drink as the sweetener element. 7. Mix protein drinks with egg whites and bake in a water bath to make custards. Hope that helps. -

Hey @DB in AZ I’m Glad to hear you are doing so well. I’m doing good. I have a 10 day pre-op diet so I just started on Sunday. I can have some foods but mostly yogurt, a little fruit, 3 oz of fat free deli meat, and protein shakes. I was a very heavy Pepsi drinker (like that is all I drank throughout the day) so I knew the caffeine withdrawal would be wicked and it was. Sunday night and yesterday, I felt really bad but I am feeling great today. I’m not hungry after eating the little bit that I’m allowed. I felt like the time was flying until I started my pre-op. Now it seems to be dragging a little lol but we’ll get there. And I agree. This forum has been really great! -

So this is just my opinion and I realize I'm an outlier...but see? I think if we DO allow this to bother us, that's a good thing. It keeps us from becoming complacent. And a "MOVING" average is important cuz it really identifies a bigger picture than just an isolated up and down daily zig zag. So it has more weight to it. And I think you are right to want to correct the course now to get your 14 day average down again. I believe this is part of what skinny people do naturally. They see they are up a couple, and they immediately cut back to correct it. Right? Oh and here's a couple pics for ya.
