I ate tilapia today and my sleeve was certainly not ready! I was at work and my stomach started cramping and I excused myself to the ladies room to vomit! (Sorry tmi) ..I do think it may have been that I didnt chew well enough or ate too fast!..Im still adjusting, either way myself, my sleeve, or both was just not ready for that!...I will go back to my pureed sweet potatoes tomorrow! !

I am on day 2 of a 9 day liquid diet... And although I am hungry when it comes time for Snacks and b l d I am doing pretty dang good. I lost 2 lbs over night and I feel OK. Slight headache and head hunger but I have been to a grocery store and even though my mouth waters I am not tempted. I think my head is in it for the big picture... My surgeon told me he didn't think I was ready because I had gained a couple lbs within the 12 days I had seen him last... I had to drive 2 hours away and my ankles were hugely swollen and I have been constipated (sorry tmi) for a few days.. He didn't believe me... Of course. The nut said she believed me and just to really stick to this pre op diet like no other and prove him wrong. Now the sad thing is, is that I spent over a hundres dollars on 2 weeks worth of Optifast at their place and I tried 3 different things and felt completely nauseous.. So I switched back to my Protein rtd's added skim milk to get calories, got cream of chicken Soup and portion out the right amount, sugar free pudding, sugar free Jello and some flavored Water... I am staying exactly at calories and drinking as much water as I can. Sorry for the long post. Hoping I don't regret saying I feel good lol I am hoping that they will give me a refund on what I haven't opened cuz that's a lot of money...

Protein shakes and GAS
Anniesmom12 replied to Pam Peltz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thanks Mary about the lemon idea...I'll try it. Seems a LOT of things make me gassy (sorry TMI) but for sure the protein shakes do! I think its the milk...not the powder. I just drink them and go on because it's the only flavor I have found that I can actually stand the taste of...and I can't stand to make it with water or soy milk. -

post-op Stool softeners: don't forget for post-op!
KittyLouSou posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dudes. Yes, TMI, but seriously peeps - I'm two weeks out, and I made the mistake of not taking stool softeners after surgery before things got all bolloxed up in there (plus I wasn't regularly taking my thyroid meds, which didn't help), plus, I should've taken some probiotics (lack of good bacteria also resulted in oral thrush from the antibiotics, which required another medication), so now I have bleeding hemorrhoids! Eek! Not fun. I need to go out and buy some old lady butt supplies now, heh. Just a cautionary tale - don't leave stool softeners/probiotics out of your post-op care kit!! -
I had a pretty big eating day yesterday! It felt like I was eating all day.. So I'm going to rein it in at least today because I feel very bloated. It doesn't help that I have about one bowel movement a week! I know tmi but its a fact of my life theses days! 0_o

TMI warning! I had the same problem. I took Milk of Magnesia. When hat wasn't enough, I used A Fleets enema. After fighting it for a month this way, I now take three stool softener a a day - one in the morning and two at night. In addition, I take two Fiberwell Gummies. Each Gummie has 5 grams of fiber. It is what finally worked for me.

Omg, I have never been so constipated in my life. Nothing is working. (Warning: TMI) I had to disimpact myself it was so bad. I feel awful. Does anyone else have constipation and how do you prevent it? I think I'm going back to liquids for awhile.

LIVING IN DURHAM, NC....looking for mentor/buddy...surg date Aug 13
Mel3620 replied to gintown29's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had very minimal pain. I felt as if I had done a ton of situps, of course, I don't really know what that feels like. But, it was not very bad at all. I had worked it up to be horrible! I had my surgery around 2:00pm. I was in my room by 5:30pm. I think I would have been there sooner, but they were out of rooms so they kept me in recovery longer. They gave me some pain meds in recovery through my IV. Once in my room, I asked a nurse when I would be getting up to walk around 8:00pm, and she said I will do that right now. I was scared of what turning over to get out of the bed would feel like, but honestly, it was not very bad at all. I had a pain pump, but it was hydromorphone. It is 10 times stronger than morphine. I was allowed to push it every 8 minutes for medicine, but I did not push it that often. I would go up to 30 minutes or an hour sometimes. I have diabetes and my sugar spiked once I was out of surgery. I was disappointed because I went into surgery thinking that i would be able to get rid of my medicines. They had to give me 2 shots of insulin while in the hospital that night. I went home the next night around 7:30pm.... with only a half of a blood pressure pill. I went in on 6 medicines. It has been amazing to me that my sugar has just leveled out. I did have to add prilosec to my medicines to protect the pouch from ulcers. In my mind, even if the weight doesn't come off I have had success with the surgery! I had a script for phenergan and hydrocodone when I left the hospital. I was walking only around the house for the first week besides a couple of shopping trips, because it was so humid outside and I was terrified of getting dehydrated. I carry a Water bottle with me everywhere I go and sip constantly. The liquid stage was not bad at all. You are really not hungry when you come home. My Mom was here and she was making all of my kids favorite things. There were cakes and Cookies, friends were bringing dinner for my family, but I didn't want any of it. I bought little 2 ounce shot cups and kept them beside me with Protein shake and water. I would alternate between the two the exact way that they told us when with the nutritionist. I also had chicken broth and lots of sugar free popsicles. You won't get in all of your protein or water in the beginning. It will happen eventually. Its only 2 weeks for liquids, and it is time consuming, but it goes by quickly. I began eating food at 2 weeks after my post op appointment. I started with a scrambled egg with a laughing cow cheese melted in. I was amazed when I could only eat half of it! There is a list of foods not to eat, but you can pretty much eat alot of different things to keep you from getting bored. I have thrown up twice. Once I ate 1 too many shrimp. I was terribly uncomfortable and in alot of pain for about 2hours and then I spit up some white frothy stuff a few times, and then all of the food. (sorry if it is TMI) The second time I think I didn't chew it completely and it was about an hour and a half before it finally came back up. I felt wonderful as soon as it was up. Throwing up isn't the same as before surgery because there is not much bile in your stomach. I am much more cautious now after doing it to not overeat. I look for things that have lots of protein. I am so sick of the shakes. I have tried many kinds. I don't like the powders much. I have found a cappucino one by nectar that I can tolerate in the mornings. It has 23 grams of protein. I would drink the shakes if they weren't so sweet. I think eventually I will go back to drinking them in the morning. I like GNC Lean Shake best. I also had a guy in my support group who never used the pain pump at the hospital and didn't fill his prescription of hydrocodone when he left. He also was never nauseous. I will be glad to share the things that have worked for me. Remember, that your tastes buds will most likely change after surgery, so don't buy too many of one item. Lots of websites will let you do sampler packs to find the Proteins that work for you. Enjoy your day! I plan on sleeping most of the day. I was in the hospital ER all night with my 19 year old. He was dehydrated and losing function in his kidneys. Thankful that I have him home now in one piece. It was a pretty scary night. -
I love my simply organic website. I have been eating clean for 2 years and banded for 4 years. I gave up meat, and eat as organic as possible. Or at least as much as my budget allows. I am not vegan but gave up milk and meat for my health. I look at the ingredients for everything to make sure it is as healthy as possible. Eating clean and healthy gave me an amazing about of energy along with my ALL NATURAL supplements I use. Not to be gross, but by eating healthy, I can even tell in my bowel movements-TMI. http://www.simplyorganic.com/store.php?Screen=recipes Here is my website of the supplements I've been using for years and love. https://showstopperwraps.myitworks.com/Shop/Category/192

My fig tree is full of beautiful, ripe figs, but I haven't touched them yet. Im so used to eating them off the tree at this time of year... Is it ok to eat a fig or two 5 weeks out? I figured it would help with the (TMI WARNING) BMs, but they are pretty sweet. Any suggestions??

Attention ! Australian Sleevers
Aussiegirl replied to Lavea's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Liss, that list is so like mine. I can now go shopping and walk around without feeling like I need a break or a nap afterwards....Ditto, even better I actually enjoy when I do go clothes shopping, rather than just choosing what would cover me that didnt look like a mu-mu I fit into my bathtub- again it now seems huge....how awesome is that, i slip all over mine now...so bizarre I can shop in pretty much any store of my choosing ...Yep, including designer brands (of course I am still a cheapskate and buy designers from outlets or the US lol) Professionally, I have had a promotion. I would never have even applied pre-surgery. ... well you do need more money to pay for all the new clothes and activities I can sleep comfortably in a bed- I didn't sleep in a bed for years- slept in a recliner cause of back discomfort and breathing issues. I can come away for work or on holiday and sleep in the bed- not have to ensure there was a couch so I could sleep sitting up. I am no longer invisible. Pre-surgery people would "accidentally" run into me all the time like they couldn't see me. Honestly can't remember the last time it happened- certainly not since the surgery. ...Its funny how you mention the "invisible" things and people running into you....I so relate to that. I said that on my video and so many people (lifetime skinny people) could not understand it. I thought maybe it was just me that experienced that stuff I am more flexible and feel strong for the first time in my adult memory.....Super Liss!!!!! I am, for the first time in years, considering the possibility of a relationship. I had written this off in my own head I think and didn't realise I had done it. I can wear heels again.....super sexy legs..wait to summer, those men will be circiling you. I can slide down a slide with my 8 year old nephew.....And dont forget the swing sets..lol I can go on rides at theme parks etc without worrying they'll bounce me for being over the weight limit ....Add adventure activties here, apparently I am a thrill seeker now I can fly... Without an extension belt....and sit in the seat and not touch anyone on either side I have so much more energy!! Amen sista Feeling sexy, weird feeling for me, but I feel curvy (atleast clothed...the plastics surgery will fix the unclothed part lol) Looking forward to summer...I may even try a bikini (post plastics)...not sure the world or I am even ready for that TMI...sex is better *embarassed look*...if I was in a relationship I would so be taking more advantage of that lol I have more respect for myself, i expect more from myself and for myself. -
5 days! So excited! I am so ready to work my sleeve and begin getting healthy again. Dropped off my prescriptions this morning for after surgery and it was so weird. I am still in disbelief that the time is here. So I got my period on Saturday and had it for 4 days and now its gone. I am praying and hoping it doesn't pop back up after surgery. I hear a lot of people saying that it does. I had some different kind of cramping this period it was more painful. I am doing pretty good on Pre-Op Diet, I have lost 12 lbs in 12 days. A pound a day , I will take that!!! It is actually easy now. I don't want anything else.

The band dr said losing the weight probably caused it to stop and when she checked me felt that my exam did not indicate i was menopausle ( the ongyn) but next day i literally got my period. Lasted 2 weeks. Now its back 3 weeks later and really heavy. Very unlike the old ones. Sorry for TMI. Just freaking out. Cant leave the house. Crazy. Maybe its just because i didnt have it for so long?

i do share my story, i blog every day and post reality as i see it.and i answer threads when i am able too...although some do not like my (no sugar sprinkles point of view)...my blogs detail the TMI info stuff to the downright silly and all my dr appts and xrays..and also i speak from my heart..i know what it is like to mot be able to walk and wear a size 30 pant size.....coming from a super morbid obese person, i also see it was get bigger and possibly die or get well....hence why i come to this site...i support anyone who supports themselves..i commented only because i do not like seeing people say (dont get the band, it doesnt work) when in fact it does........i stand by what i wrote...may not have worked for this particular poster, but it does work for me...and hence my response...people on this site know me..i support anyone as best i can...as does alot of us......i am not one to trash anyone........(except myself) -
Hey, I still vomit if I inhale my food too quickly. However I have a related question. In the last 2 weeks I have had green poop all the time and it is not from anything in the diet. I have read online that this can be caused if the food passes through your intestines before the bile has a chance of breaking down the waste and mixing with other enzymes that turn it brown. Would this lead to malnutrition? I feel fine. I just feel like ET seeing green all the time. Lol. Actually today it has returned to brown after a couple weeks of weird green.. The other thing is that I get regular BM within 5 minutes of eating which is several times a day. This is new for me. Does this mean I have a super fast metabolism now? I like that. Weight has dropped 10 lbs in about a month andi see this as a good thing being 1 year out. Just curious and looking for an explanation behind the green and the sudden change to frequent BM. Apologies in advance if this is TMI and/or hijacking the thread.

nashiemmom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im almost 4 weeks post op. Ok...this might be TMI but I need help. I got on the scale today like an idiot. I wasn't suppose to weigh myself until Thursday. Anyway...I have only lost a 1 lb. in the last week. I've been working out everyday and eating almost nothing. I have popped in maybe almost a week. What do you think? My goal is to lose at least 5 lbs per week. -
Dr. Alavrez patients...
devine.adon replied to devine.adon's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm still feeling great!! I started I chips yesterday and then moved to sips of Water, the ice chips don't bother me but sometimes the water is too much!! My nurse Jessica is the best ever!!! We even connected on fb and exchanged numbers! I will miss her greatly! My dr has been in several times to see me and just chatted with us, he's wonderful and so down to earth. The assistant Dr has also been great, frequent stops as well. I feel like I'm being treated like a princess, its truly amazing!! I am having just a tad bit of pain mainly from the bloated belly, I really wish I could pass some gas or a big burp lol sorry for the TMI there but it's the truth!! I haven't been sick at all and I even got my shower last night. My dr actually said I've bounced back greatly, really even better that most!! So my advice to future sleeves-- get that mindset that you are gonna be one to bounce back easily with little to no pain!! I know I did and it worked!! I will tell this, my husband didn't tell me but right after surgery I had said I was in a lot of pain (I do not remember any of this) they have me some meds and my nurse said I scared her bc my oxygen levels started dropping and got below 80 and was going down, my dr was right here by my side within seconds and had it all under control, yes it was scary to hear this but it was a comfort to know he was so quick to fix it!!! I'm fine now and it was just my dose of pain meds didn't suite me. I am so thankful for a wonderful nurse and a superb dr!!! I will suggest him for a lifetime!! Dr Alvarez is the best, I'll stand behind him 100% always!!!! If you plan to go to Mexico this is the man to see!!!! You won't regret it one bit!! -
I felt like I may be getting constipated (pod 4 for me) too.... then today I had massive bm... like diarrhea mixed with formed stool... stomach was cramping unbelievably, but afterwards I felt 100% better! tmi probably, but just my experience! As a nurse I've heard your first lg bm after anesthesia usually clears the sluggishness out of your system, but that could just be one of those myths that get passed on and on... Long story short, despite all the warnings to take a stool softener lousy op... it wasn't an issue for me. Would like to know about the anti-diarrheal though....

Almost lost my previous post... iPad with a mind of it's own again. As I was attempting to write, I'm not certain what I would call it, but TMI, anything I ate several hours before will come back up while asleep. The rules whic I have discovered are to not have anything to eat for at least 2-3 hours before I go to bed, and only enough Water to take my evenings medication. Then I wait for another 90 minutes before I go to sleep. Typing invisibly again...

Dr. Aceves, Mexicali, and Me!
Oakleygirl replied to AmandaRaeLeo's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Truly a first-class hospital with exceptional doctors and staff... can't say enough good things about Dr. Aceves and his wonderfully personable and knowledgeable rapport. And man... did you notice how many male nurses there were?! Yay me! I left with mostly pain on my left side where drain was and am now post-op day 6... feeling good, but still using 1 or 2 pain meds a day so I can be mobiile. I was really weepy leaving Mexicali... think it was just the whirlwind of how fast it all happened and sad to say goodbye... very sweet Ernesto gave me a hug at the airport as i was the only one leaving that day... like a dad! So now my next big hurdle is to POOP!!! Oh yeah... TMI! Everything else is healing up nicely... getting up to my Fluid goals (59 oz today and 74 g protein)! Battling the hunger demons b/c I AM hungry... 350 calories a day, even with a tiny stomach, is NOT enough to survive on! Can't wait to get past the liquids stage, but am following dr instructions to the letter b/c I cannot afford to have complications if I can help it! Wouldn't it be nice to have a Dr. Aceves reunion sometime with all the 2013 sleevers he's done? That place was smokin' busy... I was done on Monday Jul 6 with 3 others (the MOST he ever does in a day) and every day, two new people arrived! Just so grateful to have had a great experience with a dr who truly cares!
