  1. I have a 10 cc band, 3 cc's were put in at surgery, 1 more cc added at my first fill.
  2. I have a 10 cc band. I got 4.4 cc's with my first fill and another 1.5 cc's (or so, I wasn't paying close attention...) with my 2nd fill. The first one didn't restrict me at all and I was eating a ton of food, but this second fill is AWESOME. I eat 1 cup of food and I'm FULL. I love it!
  3. I was sleeved on Tuesday 11/13! Came home from the hospital yesterday, still felt pretty shitty, but today I started feeling more like me, like a tired, sore version of me, but, still. I keep feeling the urge to burp, but they're not really coming out. I'm excited to be starting my journey. I bought some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein powder - hubby has been adding that to everything for me. I still haven't felt the "full" feeling, but I get scared and stop eating after a little bit. I had a half a small mug of chicken broth for bfast. half small mug homemade potato garlic Soup for lunch, same thing for dinner. Small cup of sugar free caramel pudding. And then Crystal Lite. All with Protein Powder added into it to reach about 35-40 grams of protein for the day. He said get to 60, I just don't feel the urge, but I may try for another 5-10 in a little bit. Does this sound about right? My doc, I gotta say, I'm a huge fan of what he did for me, but his personality and everything else = toilet. Not big on the small talk/bedside manner at all. After surgery I didn't see him at all, the next day I breifly saw another doc from his practice that I'd never met before, and then on checkout day he came in, pulled out my drain, told me to make an appointment for 2 weeks, told me I was going home, and left, total of about 2 minutes facetime, 5 if you include pre-op! But, it seems he did a good job, so, I can't complain. I just feel a little bit unsupported by the doc in all this. He didn't tell me what to do, as far as the gauze/bandages on my wounds, if/when I should replace them. He said to eat full liquids until I see him in 2 weeks and follow the paperwork I got on my first visit (back in August) but only because I thought to ask as he was walking out the door. The nurses in the hospital were well informed thankfully, and they said he's like that with everyone. Always seems to be in a rush! Ah well. I'm sleeved, and I didn't want a real clingy doc that wanted to see me all the time anyway! Thank goodness for my online research because I'd be totally lost!!

Stick with what works i think even when i could have purees I still stuck to my shakes, yogurt, cheese, and Soups. Keeping up with the Protein count is hard enough. Lol @@gustavio yes i have to agree. I never thought I'd say that either! Initially I wanted to be like a 2!. It's about feeling good in your own skin not numbers on the scale. 6. My surgery is Monday....I'm just excited. So far, I'm not allowing myself t'o go to the fear side. I telling myself I weighed all those things a long time ago....and there is no reason to re-hash all that again.... so far that is working for me......and if things get too bad my surgeon gave me 10 Valium that I can take and budget between now and surgery day....So far I've saved all of them.....When I start having trouble sleeping at night I'll take one. Try to be excited, you've already done enough worrying!
  7. OK, so I have a problem that is stressing me out like crazy!!! I put it in the success forum because my problem comes from my weight loss, which is a great thing. However, there is still a problem. I am getting married. The bridal salon said I had to order my dress over a month ago. I did. Luckily it came in early and it was huge so they sent it back and ordered another size down. It is a size 12 and is coming in this week. I stopped by the bridal shop to get my measurements again and my measurements are a solid size 10. So the dress that will be here this week is too big. There are still 2 months before my big day. I know I am going to exchange the 12 for a 10, but now I am freaking out wondering if I should order an 8?!?! I will be more than upset if it is too tight around my hips (that's the largest area on me). I will fit the 10 perfectly today, but I will likely lose another 10 pounds before my wedding day. I am seriously worried, but I know they can alter the size 10. I know this seems trivial in light of the weight loss - I am so happy about it!! But, I want to look good on my wedding day. Not to mention I feel bad for the shop even though I told them when I started that I physically can't stop losing weight and I don't know what size I will be in 2 weeks much less 12 weeks. I must say, though, Davids Bridal has been really fantastic about this. They allow exchanges and I am really testing that policy right now. STRESS!!!!!
  8. I do free weights 10 lbs doing a ton of different ways. I do the machines with 30-50 lbs 15 reps per machine. My arm a have always been heavy. I am loosing so well in my abs and stomach don't want to have these huge arms left.
  9. It is unfortunate but number one, it is mostly genetics as to how your results will turn out. Second would be how much weight you need to lose and third will be the workout factor. Last but not least patience and time will help a lot too, as I've been noticing my batwings on my arms are slowly disappearing! I have really good skin and thankfully my arms came out pretty good. I am not a strength trainer at all. The only form of workout I do on my arms are with my elliptical, a little bit of Pilates type body resistance movements and using a 10 Lb Kettlebell. Yet my arms came out really nice.
  10. I was banded on 01-20-2011. I feel I am completely restricted on everything I eat however, I know in a few weeks I will be able to eat once again. I have always craved sweets. I know I will be able to eat some and many other foods I love however; this to me is odd; I have never been able to do this. I know I will need to still monitor what goes into my body. I am really scared that because I have the band I will have the mind set that I can eat what I want. Is there many people out there that have similar issues? Is there many people who have had failure?
  11. sunshine, when they say chew chew chew that is for when you are tight and eating solid foods like chicken, beef jerky and other hard things to get down. the reason they say chew it good is because if you put a piece of chicken in your mouth and barely chew it then swallow it is going to get stuck and you will "slime" it up. my dr says dont drink protien shakes or any other liquid as a meal but I agree with shelly being that in the morning I am very tight and have a difficult time eating before about 2 pm so I tend to drink a shake in the morning to get some nutrients in my body. before I was adjusted I didnt drink the shakes i just ate and i dont drink them for lunch or dinner only in the morning now when it is difficult to get food down. i was on solid foods by week 2 and had a little restriction left from being swollen from the surgery but then that went away, i got 3cc fill at 6 weeks but it did nothing for me, i still could eat alot, another fill of 1cc at about 10 weeks and still nothing, my 3rd fill on jan 10th 1.5 cc now a total of 5.5 cc in my 10 cc band I have restriction, I am now eating smaller, chewing meats better and having the protien shake in the morning but only to get somethbing in me. this is very very confusing because there is so many different rules but i think we all need to do what is right for us and what works for us, you will learn as you go along as I am still learning and only been 41/2 months since banded. this is a great site with lots of information. hang in there and keep up the good work all

    No Pre-Op Diet? Drain Port?

I was banded on October 4th, 2013. I was on an all liquid diet for 10 days prior to surgery. The reason behind that is to get the liver to shrink down so they can move it out of the way to be able to get to the area easier. As far as a drain port, I did not have one. Maybe other doctors use it. I believe for the sleeve and the bypass they use a drain port. Best of luck to you on this journey!!

    No Pre-Op Diet? Drain Port?

My experience exactly! I had to do 10 days of no carb or sugar and high protein but it was no big deal cause I'd already changed my eating. I had small glued incisions (4) that were closed by the 4th day out. Loved it!
  14. So I wrote this for myself but I wanted to share with people who understand. I'm being banded on Friday this week! Dear Self, Why am I doing this? Why am I subjecting myself to this? Well mainly it’s for my kids. I’d like to be healthy and be a good role model for my children. I want to be with them for as long as possible. There are other more selfish reasons of course. I’m so freakin sick of having the sore back all the freakin time! I know it’s because of my belly and I’m hoping and praying that if I’m able to get rid of that my back won’t hurt anymore. Every time I go to pick up Little Stink or when we are in the rocking chair nursing and I go to put him in his crib it hurts SO bad. Bending down to clean up their toys is a nightmare. I’m also so sick of being scared that I’m going to develop diabetes. If I’m able to loss weight and keep it off, that fear will most likely be alleviated. Not to mention of course, the HPB which weighs on my as well. I’d like to be able to nurse my next child without having to worry about that medication at least. I’d like to be thin enough to attempt a VBAC for baby 3 so maybe I can even have baby 4 if I want! I also want to be able to run without hearing my belly flap. It’s more than embarrassing. I want to be able to run and play with the kids. Play soccer or baseball or tennis without being winded. I want to be able to ride my bike without fear of a hill. I want to be able to run and get my baby if he falls more quickly than I can now. I want to be there for them more than I am now. I want to be able to walk into a room of people I don’t know and not be looking around to make sure there’s someone fatter than me in the room. I want to be able to stop looking for the shock or disgust in people’s eyes when they see me (as a point of note, I’ve NEVER seen that though! I just look for it). I want to be taken seriously and included in circles that I’m currently not given the opportunity to join. I want to be able to ride my bike or take a walk without worrying what the teenagers are thinking or worse yet saying about me. I don’t want the day to come when my little boys say to me “Mommy, you are fat” and I simply have to respond, “Yes, Mommy is fat”. I want to see the looks on people’s faces when they see me thin FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER! I want to welcome my sister home from aboard having lost 100 pounds. I want to go to weddings or other family events and see all their faces when they realize that it really is me. This has been a dream since I was 10 years old. I’d like to finally see it come to fruition. I want my husband to be able to pick me up and swing me around like he does his mother. I want him to find me attractive. I want him to tell me he finds me attractive. What am I scared of though. I’m scared of not succeeding. That’s for sure. I’m scared that I’ll go through all of this and 10 years down the road I’ll be back right where I am now, and I’ll have to watch what I eat on top of it. That would SUCK. If I’m gonna be fat, then I damn well want to be enjoying it! I’m scared that life is gonna suck after the surgery. I’m scared I won’t be able to follow the diet. I’m scared I’ll lose my drive after too short a time. I’m SUPER scared I’ll have a recurrence of my anxiety problems. In the past this was enough to keep me from trying anything. But it’s been well controlled for around 7 years so I do think I’ll be ok. If I’m not, well then I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. I’m scared that life is gonna suck without good food. I’m scared of what I won’t be able to eat anymore. I’m scared of not nursing for 24 hours. I’m scared of not being able to lift the kids for a time. That will be hard. I’m scared that I’ll give up too soon. I’m hoping that the band will not let me do that! I’m hoping that the results will be such that I don’t want to do that. I’m hoping to succeed. I’m hoping not to be disappointed by my audacity to hope.

    how big is your band?

Usually the doctor decides when he goes in and finds out the size of your stomach. My doctor thought because of my weight he would use a 14 cc band, however once he got in the 10 cc band was a better fit. Kathy

I have a 10 cc band. Anyone know what the reasons are for deciding which size band to use?

    Tired all the time.

I think it is different for everybody. I was tired for about 10 days. I tried to listen to my body and rest when it wanted me to. When I went back to work after having 8 days off, I found that I was fine not napping even though I felt like it.
  18. Hi, My conversion surgery was Feburary 19, 2018. I have lost 55 lbs and is happy with my slow weight lost. My diet is ok most of the time. My problem is not drinking water. Head Hunger Vs. Me

I've found myself falling into this trap when I'm at home and bored, or around lots of yummy foods. So, I only keep healthy Snacks in the house, I try my best to stay busy or entertained. There are always yummy junky things at my mum's house, which I find myself grabbing for every 10 to 15 minutes. In those situations, I put the food onto a higher shelf that requires a stepping stool. That way, getting to the food takes effort, and I usually give up.

Hi LVMOM, I would definately try to get in to get a fluro so you can check the position of your band. I don't want to scare you but this is pretty serious and you need to make sure that you dont' have a slip. You have done outstanding with your WL since your banding but you shouldn't be having these reoccuring problems, espc since you had more fluid taken out of your band. I had similar problems about 2 mos ago and I thought I had a slip for sure. I had xrays done and my band was fine but very irritated and swollen, so my doc completely unfilled me for a month and gave me some Nexium to calm down my stomach. It sounds like you may have some reflux too possibly. Don't take no for an answer if they try to tell you that you are fine. Demand a fluro and then go from there. Personally, I would get a complete unfill to let your band and stomach rest and recooperate for a bit. It helped me immensely. Good luck to you. ~Liz~ 03/10/06 241/164/160 5'7''
  21. After the surgery, I developed a serious problem with constipation. I tried several things to resolve the problem including Probiotics, Metamucil, and laxatives; without success. The only thing that was effective was using glycerin suppositories. I just couldn’t accept inserting a suppository up my rectum every three days for the rest of my life as a viable solution. This was a serious problem. Then almost by accident I stumbled on a simple solution. I found that eating an apple or two each night before I went to bed corrected the problem. But it was important to also eat the skin of the apple. I have followed this regiment for the past 10 months and no problems. My mother who did not have surgery also suffers from this type of problem. I suggested she eat an apple each night before bed. But she says she can't because she has false teeth and the skin gets stuck. I was at my monthly bariatric surgery support group meeting yesterday and another person said they experienced the same problem because of her false teeth. She wanted to know if I had any solution. I thought about it and decided that perhaps one could blend the apple. I experimented today. I cut the core out of the apple and blended it with the skin to the consistency of apple sauce in my Ninja blender. I soon discovered that I needed to add a little liquid to make it blend properly - about a quarter or half cup of (no-sugar) apple juice. It seems like it might work. But since I still have my teeth, I am not able to perform a complete test. So if you suffer from constipation and if you have false teeth and are up to an experiment - try blending an apple a day with the skin (but not the core) and let me know (1) does this type of apple sauce get stuck in your teeth and (2) does it solve your constipation problem.

Chapter 2 - New Aftercare Doctor

ok, so I had my surgery with Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver because my insurance would not pay for the surgery and I had to pay cash. I wanted someone with experience but not someone who was out to rob me blind. So... Dr. K was both and about $15K cheaper than anyone else I could find with his experience. One thing I found at my first fill was that he wasn't so good at after care. He didn't know how to tell me to know that I was filled correctly...so frustrated and water logged, I left with only 1.5 ccs in a 10cc band. That was 10/31/08. ON 11/07, I decided to call Fill Centers to find out what doctor they had available in Las Vegas for fills. They set me up with Dr Ricciardi a "Bariatric Physician", not to be confused with a "Bariatric Surgeon". I chose the annual plan with the promise that if I didn't like him that I could go to anyone else in the Fill Center network. Cool. Appt set for 11/20 at 9am. I was very impressed by his staff and by him. Turns out he is experienced and young and he trains other doctors across the country to be "aftercare" providers for bariatric surgery. How Cool! He listened, talked for about 30 minutes about what I've been trying and told me that I come to his office now for all aftercare. Awesome! So, he fills it 1.5 cc's and is amazed that I can chug a full water bottle with 3.0 ccs after only 8 weeks. I personally felt like he should put more but thought I should trust him and see how it goes. Next day all is well and I am eating around 1/4 - 1/2 cup depending on how much water I've had that day already. I think I need a little more so I'll set up an appt to go back in another week. Let's see how much I can lose this week without much restriction. I see many others who had surgery the same time as me are at 3.5 or 4.0 and have good restriction so I don't want to waste too much more time waiting for something to work... I'll give it til after Thanksgiving to see and then I'll make an appt. All in all, I was very pleased with my fill center experience. They gave me a lifestyle guide, access to recipes and other things on their website and called me for a follow up to see how everything went. I am pretty impressed.

Question for Post-Op patients of Dr. Aceves in MX

    1) When was your surgery with Dr. Aceves? June 15, 2010 2) How much weight have you lost? 25 lbs 3) Tell me (briefly) about your stay in his facilities? (i.e., cleanliness, friendliness of staff, attentiveness of his nurses) outstanding on all counts 4) Did you have any complications, even if they were very minor? I ran a fever for a few hours in the hospital and had all the nurses and Doctors fussing over me. It went down quickly. Two days after returning home I developed a throat infection unrelated to surgery (I have allergies) and felt sick for 2 weeks. I had to take antibiotics. 5) If your child wanted to use this surgeon in the future, how would you feel? absolutely 6) How did you get to/from the facilities? I flew to San Diego. My cousin's wife lives in Dana Point, CA and is from Mexicali. She picked me up at the airport and we drove to Mexicali. I used Dr. Aceves driver for the trip back to the airport 7) How difficult was it to schedule your surgery? Not very. I did not get my first choice because Dr. Aceves was attending a conference that week. I scheduled 6 weeks prior to surgery 8) What kind of pre-operative requirements does his staff have? I had to submit a lengthy medical history. I was on a lo carb diet for 2 weeks pre-op. He only required 1 week. Fasting before pre-op blood work and the night before surgery 9) What do you regret about using Dr. Aceves? Nothing. 10) On a scale of 1 to 10, what would you rate your overall experience using Dr. Aceves? 10 __________________
