My surgeon said that my reflux should go away once the revision to rny is done. I don't understand why it is virtually eliminated with rny since there is still a pouch and restriction involved? Do you still get stuck with the rny pouch?

I had the same concerns when I started this process, this will be revision surgery for me because the lap band did not work for me....when I was in my psy consult I told her my concerns and she agreed that my concerns were valid and I should seek therapy, so I found a therapist and she has been great...she has already helped me and I've only had 2 sessions with her....when I told my friends who have also had WLS they just told me you can get the same thing reading a book....and I told them, I need someone who will have a verbal exchange with me, and a book cant do that... I would encourage you to seek a therapist...

Need A Houston Surgen
Dallasgrl47 replied to Dallasgrl47's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi, I had mine done on November 14th, I used Dr. Marza and he was great. Thanks for the reply. I hope you do great with your revision. -
I was self pay for my revision....so my price was more than the typical VSG.....but Dr. Yu has self pay packages as well, his office is very helpful in telling you up front what you will be responsible for before surgery....

I used to vomit almost daily with my lapband. I've only vomited once in the last 7 mths since my revision. I've actually tried to vomit (ate 1 bite too much and it caused much pain) but it's just not as easily done as when I was banded. I used to just bend over and my food would come up. Now I have to stick my toothbursh down my throat and nothing will come up. I guess thats good. I was becoming an unwitting bulimic while banded for almost 4 yrs. I think thats how I lost all of my weight. Now I hafta think about what I put into my tummy, as I can't press the reject button anymore.

New feeling. Not hungry. Update.
emk101009 replied to Tomo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am scheduled for a revision in December. I am so encouraged by this. I have always been hungry. And I know my stomach empties fast. I pray that I lose the hungry feeling. Glad you're doing well. -
Popping in to say hello - for those that remember me - The band was a waste for me....
blondeej posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
IDK who all is still here from when I posted often - but I got banded in February with Dr. Aceves in Mexico. Surgery went great - LOVE Dr. A - but I am one of those XX% of people that the band has not worked for. That was my NUMBER ONE fear going into this - that I would be one of the very few individuals that this simply does not work for - I soothed myself by saying don't worry - it's just normal to have this fear - EVERYONE thinks that they'll be the "one" it doesn't work for. Well here I am - 6 months post op and am still at my pre-op weight. The most I was down was about 10 lbs and that was due to just post-op stress and liquid diets. If I didn't have a scar and if I didn't see the band when I had my fills and fluoro done I would bet my paycheck that nothing was inside me. I now have about 7.25 cc's in my band (I have the big one) and feel NOTHING. Had about 6 fills. There is no leakl. I don't "eat around my band" - I don't abuse my band - I am simply the exact same I was pre-op - except even more depressed now. If I felt like a falure before - I can now magnify that by 100%. I feel like I am doomed to be fat my whole life. My only hope now is to somehow save up enough $ to get a revision to the sleeve. I wish I would of had the money to do that in the first place. -
Pouch reset diet won’t shrink your stomach. It will help you feel your restriction better. It's a kick start to get back on track with healthy habits. Yes, I’m on my soap box because this topic comes up so often. Your best restriction is in your first six months to a year. With the sleeve you feel less restriction as you progress *it’s not back to full size* this sensation seems common for sleeves but, won’t happen to everyone. I wish people knew this before choosing the sleeve. Just because we have more space does not mean you have to eat over your calories and macros and gain weight. You can eat more bulk in food and keep your calories in range. With the other foods allowed on your plan, Eat dense protein and as much veggies you want to fill the extra space. ***For anyone who feels they have stretched their surgery, get it diagnosed by a surgeon. Look into revisions. Address why you are over eating so you don’t stretch your next surgery***

Revision denial by Anthem BCBS
CurvyCakes replied to dazedinks's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
That's awesome. Keep me posted. I swear this is such an emotional roller coaster. One moment I'm excited the next scared out my mind of all the worst possibilities. Never imagined I would need a revision. -
Same here. Also although the sleeve seems to be a good option I still think I would be quite hesitant to revise to one . The surgical and post surgical risks and complications sound so scary compared to a band. If something went wrong with my band I would be hoping that they could replace it. If they couldn't then I would probably go for a sleeve but I imagine it would take a lot of work to convince my DH that it was an option.

Embarrassing Question - What To Tell Casual Friends
Jerziegirl replied to Karen W's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You sounds like me Karen! Lol! My name is Karen, I have a band that has caused me so much reflux that I am having it taken out with a sleeve revision on March 3 too and the doctor is repairing my hernia! Unlike the band where I told almost no one, I have shared my intentions because someone else I work with had a sleeve revision and they are getting tremendous from our coworkers and I decided to draw from that as well. I'm 225 right now and hoping to get to 145. I start 2 weeks of liquids only on Monday! Good luck to you! -
Embarrassing Question - What To Tell Casual Friends
Karen W replied to Karen W's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks so much to all for your suggestions. Hiatal hernia repair definitely seems like the way to go. And I've had some reflux problems of late, so who knows what the surgeon will find. I don't have any family in the area, and only a couple family members 1500 miles away. My 90 year old mother doesn't need to know. I am very close to my daughter and will tell her soon. At this point, I am thinking I won't say anything before the surgery. I am going to spend a couple days with friends in the city I used to live in. When I return home, IF I find I am more house bound than anticipated (eg not playing bridge, etc), I will say I had a hernia repair. And that will explain everything. My weight loss will be the result of eating (much) less and lots of exercise. Everyone knows I used to spend a lot of time in the gym anyway. Thanks again, everyone! And I know all of you will travel your journey with great success. (The "other") Karen -- yes...we are both revisions and having our surgery on the same day. I would love to keep in touch. Karen W -
Kansas city area sleevers?
mom2wils replied to laceygorrell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey group! Just came across this thread - great to see you all doing so well! I am currently banded but in the process of going through all the hoops to get it revised to a sleeve. Thought it was going to be done this month but due to insurance stuff looks like it won't be until February or March. Minimally Invasive Surgical Hospital did my band in 2008 and will do my revision. So looking forward to getting on with the sleeve! And looking forward to hearing more about your journeys!! -
Looking to see if my Dr. Will do the revision because of my Gerd

Band to bypass revision date 16th September
taysidebell posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
It's been quite a journey so far successful band surgery 2012 then problems with my band and weight regain all bar 30lb. I am on the pre op diet of lean protein and no more than 40g of carbs. Surgery is 11 days away feeling nervous and excited. Have lost 10 on pre op diet so far. Have pdh diet protein for post op in strawberry and mint choc chip. Any other revision people out there how are you all doing x -
You made a great choice not getting the lap band. I had it for 19 months which was a complete nightmare. I had revision surgery on April 25 and had bypass done. A 3+ hour surgery took 6+ hours because of all the scar tissue that had to be removed due to the lap band. I ended with 1/3 of my stomach cut out and the bypass.

port revision and Six Flags Death

@Maddysgram Do you have something other than LB? My revision is for the LB port. @SolracSpree the death is still under investigation, here is one article if you want to read what happened. http://www.dallasnews.com/news/metro/20130719-texas-giant-to-remain-closed-as-six-flags-investigates-woman-s-fall.ece -
I’m looking to have a sleeve to bypass revision but I’m not sure what my insurance will cover. Is anyone on BCBSIL PPO 204 plan?

I had a lot of problems with the band. It did get me to goal and then some. I worked really hard for my goal weight but after I hit goal I had complications and had to have it removed. I knew that removing my band meant weight gain so I revised to a sleeve for maintenance. I had esophageal spasms, esophageal motility issues, stoma spasms, reflux, periodic gastritis, port pain from rubbing against my jeans, etc. I finally threw in the towel and revised.

Congrats on your December 5th sugery date. Absolutely do this for yourself and your health. I hope your sleeve will be a better experience than the band. We are all here to help along the way. You will also find others here that are a revision from band to sleeve. Question... Would your husband consider surgery if he is also struggling?
-
I couldn't understand the "reversibility" of the band, like "ah, this skinny thing isn't really for me... I think I liked being fat and unhealthy better. Take it out!" Why would reversibility be a good thing unless there was a high rate of revision caused by complications? Bypass and DS were too extreme.

I'm on the 6th too. Revising from the band. I had multiple last meals [emoji20]. I sadly gained weight from my last visit. But I'm on day 4 of my 7 day liquid diet. I've been wanting to revise for two years. I've unfortunately gained back all my weight plus a little due to band failure. I hope things go very well for all. Now that it's 4 days away I'm starting to get a little nervous. I'm hoping I have an easy recovery. Honestly I'm not worried to much about the pain, although last time day 1 sucked, but I was off pain meds by day 3. I'm worried about having trouble getting all me fluids in. I currently drink a lot of wyler's light (similar to crystal light).

So, I have a revision scheduled with Dr. Kelly for January but am also considering Dr. Aceves. My story is a little different being that I have an older non-adjustable band called the Molina band (I have other posts on here about that) but here is where I need your input... I have read all your posts on the two docs (and they both sound equally awesome and competent) but am confused on the pricing difference between the two?? Dr. K is almost $5k cheaper than Dr. Aceves for a revision surgery. Does anyone happen to know why? Thoughts? My husband is questioning this mostly and asked me to post and see what everyone has to say about this. Thanks!!!!
