Day 6: Good morning all. I woke up again feeling that migraine trying to take over, so I decided I'm going to give my body a little break today. I know it is in shock from going from eating all that wonderful unhealthy and healthy foods to absolutely no food at all. That is A LOT to go through especially when you are sick already and have to take medication on the regular. I'm glad I decided to start two weeks out rather than wait until Thursday this upcoming week per my doctor's orders, because now I know what my body can and cannot handle. So on Monday, I will definitely have a conversation with him to find out what can I do about this, if anything at all. I may just have to suffer through the headache, but Lord knows I'm not ready for that. So today, I have started off with my coffee as usual, a scrambled egg with a teaspoon of grape jelly and a cup of orange juice. I have to say I haven't felt this satieated with my band completely empty EVER!!!!!! I actually LOVE this feeling. Sometime between now and noon, I am going to eat a banana. I have to get my extra potassium in as I definitely take my multivitamins everyday. I am going to do liquids for lunch and for supper, I think I may have some boiled shrimp and a little lettuce and tomato salad. I have drank some detox tea for the past couple of days to help with this process, and I finally excreted this morning. It wasn't as much as I hoped for, but something is better than nothing. I do think I'm going to have to take a laxative as I know there's more that needs to come out. I know this maybe a little TMI, but I have to share the whole journey and not part because I want others to know you're not alone in this journey. So I do hope I'm encouraging someone out there. TMI: I’m 3 days post op and things are super rough. I’m dry heaving and throwing up several times throughout the night! My vomit looks like it has bits of old blood in it. Is this normal?

I had my surgery last Wednesday so it's been 4 days. I am finally getting more liquids in, which is good. The other day was the first tim I went #2, but it was like I passed gas and it was like an explosion sorry tmi., but I need to ask if anyone else has experienced the same thing. I have only had clear liquids now since last Tuesday so I would think it would be solid, but if feels like every time go to the bathroom and I pass gas it happens. It's brown and yellow . it's not really diarrhea. As anyone else experience this??

Major Blockage and emergency unfill!
ffpandamer replied to skinny minny 35's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
For me it's been several months of emotional wringage. First, there was making the decision to have the surgery, after being overweight for over a decade. Trying every diet, spending thousands of dollars, and never loosing weight. After the decision, it was the process of obtaining insurance approval. They made me jump through hoops for four months. sleep tests, EKG's, ultrasounds, weight checks, special diets, psychological exams...was exhausting. Then came the approval. I went on a 2 week liquid Protein diet which was extremely difficult at first, and then got easier as i went on. I started feeling better and enjoying eating so healthy. Was still hungry, but i was determined to do this, so i followed the diet to the letter. The day of my surgery, I had a severe allergic reaction to the antibiotic they gave me. I almost went into shock, but was treated fast enough to avoid it. Scared the daylights out of me. And my legs swelled up like balloons that night. And i developed thrush in my mouth (yeast infection) due to the antibiotic allergy. And now, i'm 13 days post op. I'm swollen and look pregnant, can't wear my bras (omg they hurt - they're so tight), find pants and panties extremly tight, and still have bloating problems. I have to take Milk of Magnesia every night or i can't stay regular. Belches hurt!!! And because of the food that I now eat, my bodily eminations have a completely different, and conisiderably more offensive, odor (sorry, TMI, i know). And mentally, it's exhausting. I'm dropping weight, which makes me very happy, but it's hard to stick to my diet. And i'm having issues learning when i'm actually full. And i have to deal with a well-meaning but overbearing family member who wants an almost minute by minute narration of my recovery and weight loss. That about sums it up lol -

On my way to the flat side
depressed_bandster replied to depressed_bandster's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am doing good....would be MUCH better if I would/could have a BM! Sorry TMI... First couple days was worse than expected but each day has been better than the last. I'm more miserable with my bowel issues than the surgery at this point. I had a really hard time with the anesthesia this time...waking up was horrid & apparently, according to my mom & daughter, I was mean. Day 2 was ok, I slept a lot & was only in real pain when I had to get in/out of bed. Left the aftercare facility & went to the hotel where that evening (Thursday, postop day1) my wonderful doc came to see me at the hotel, checked my bandages & fixed my CG, making me much more comfortable. Day 3 I was getting around better, could walk by myself but needed help to get in&out of bed....couldn't wait to get home to the lift recliner I had rented. My hubby has been a much better & more compassionate nurse than I had expected. I'm getting a little stir crazy having to ask for help for most everything I need. I've tried doing too much on my own & pay with pain and/or fatigue. My drain ports are more uncomfortable today too. Hoping tomorrow is better & hoping I'm up to going to see family for a short time tomorrow afternoon.....WISH ME LUCK!! -

List of Food Items for Post Op
1234567890 replied to jcb123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since you wont be able to lift over 20 lbs I would suggest to prep for next 2 months: - water - popsycles - apple pure (sugar free) - jello (sugar free), you can also buy powder and diy - coconut water - tuna for stage 3 post op - beef / chicken so you can prep your soups.. the ones at super market have bad taste.. Misc: 4 oz plastic containers to measure water and food intake Meds: - baby aspirin - gas x strips to help out with gas - get your chewable muti vitamins and calcium, sublingual B-12 (in my case I used them at week #8) - vitamin C to help produce collagen for skin elasticity. - Biotin to help with hair loss - baby wipes.. first weeks tings do not come out normal (sorry tmi but good to know) -
I don't mean to ask TMI...this is all out of curiosity  Did any of you have hernias that you didn't know about? If so, what kind was it/where was it located? Would most hernias present themselves in an abdominal exam? Lastly, if you had one, would you most likely know about it before the doctor found it due to symptoms? I've been reading more recently here of people and their hernia situations so I'm just trying to get more info...thanks in advance for sharing!

Is This Normal Or Should I Call The Doctor?
Banditiff posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am currently 2 days post-op (I had surgery Friday) and I have the driest mouth! When I wake up in the morning, my mouth is so super dry that it is had to swallow my own spit (tmi, I know). When I touch my tongue with the tip of my finger it feels as if a shell has formed on my tongue. . . that is how dry I am; my throat as well. Another thing that bothers me is the fact that I feel that I have absolutley NO restriction. I am still on the liquid phase of my diet, but when I drink water or Crystal Light, I can actually take large gulps with no problems. It's crazy, because I can feel the water going down mt throat, through the band and then into my tummy. . . it feels so good when the cold fluid reaches my tummy. Is all of this normal, or is it cause to call the doctor?? Please help me!!THANKS IN ADVANCE, Banditiff -
Is It Safe..
Liberated Sleeve replied to PreciousCargo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I guess I am on day 7? Not sure if I count the day of surgery in my post-op counts or not, but I don't guess anyone really cares right? LOL I hadn't had a bowel movement all week but kept telling myself I really wasn't putting much in other then liquids and then today I decided I would search the forums on "constipation" just to see what advice might be out there and low and behold as I am searching nature comes along on her own and although it wasn't much I am guessing it was about what I have input!! TMI I know but wanted to type something and this was the closest thing to my heart!! -
Feeling like I should see my doctor.

TMI disclaimer: I can't stop the diarrhea and cramping. It occurs every time I drink or eat something. Is this normal? I'm scared of becoming dehydrated. I don't have a doctor in the states as I had my surgery in Mexico. Is anyone else experiencing/ experienced this problem? Sent from my Nexus 6 using the BariatricPal App -
Sorry if this is TMI but I'm curious. Is throwing up a sign your over Eating ? Or is it possible to be over eating and never throw up? I'm hoping that if I was eating over board I would get sick and up chuck and not just be stretching my stomach

New to the process - help?
Bring It On replied to natalie132's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Everyone is definitely different. Depends on the surgeon and your insurance company. Even people on here with the SAME ins. company have slightly different requirements, depending on what part of the country you are in. I am Tricare (military). I said "YES" to the program on July 7. Since then, I have had a nutrition counsel, exercise physiology counsel, psychological counsel, and after everything was turned in to insurance, they wanted a Pulmonary Function Test, which I had today. My last nutrition counsel is tomorrow. Hoping my ins will give me the thumbs up by the end of the week. The only thing I would suggest is the more co-morbidities that you have, the better. (Diabetes, HBP, high chole., sleep apnea) the easier the process. I have Diabetes, so I had my PCP write a letter of medical necessity to my ins. company, and I think that helped quite a bit. Lastly, the higher your BMI, the longer you may have to be required to have a special diet BEFORE surgery. This process shrinks your liver, so it can be retracted easier to get to your stomach. I know, TMI. Good luck to you. Keep us posted!!! -

abarta83 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know this is tmi..but whatever..sleeved on the 20th and I just had my second bowel movement since getting home. I noticed a very slight bit of mucus..and teeny almost string of blood? Today is the most active I've been since getting home...went to the store.cooked for my family..is this a big deal or do I need to just sit my ass down? -
Hi all, I hope this is not TMI. I am only 6 weeks post-op, lost 30lbs as of 2wks but plenty of inches gone. I am loving the changes on my body but apparently so does my hubby. I don't even get a breathing space anymore. He is always chasing me around, smacking me on my behind, touching and kissing me every moment he gets and forget it if the kids are not home. Thank God we bought have a job and I am taking birth control shot, if not......... My point is that I have only lost 30lbs and he is going crazy over his wife. What will happen when I become like a lot of you that have hundreds of pounds? I guess I have to be sleeping under the bed. I love the attention but oh my!

Tom;tmi; tonight we went out to dinner and because of my special time I crave red meat..as I'm sure a lot of women do. Well when my steak came to the table with my mushrooms and broc I was as excited as a fat girl with a can of whipped cream.. eerrrr my steak was way over cooked so I requested a new one which took about 30 minutes of me eating shrooms and broc...by the time my steak came out I took one bite and realized I had filled up on veggies ;( well I was ready to tell the manager how upset I was when he came over and informed me that because I didn't get to eat with my family that my meal was on the house... ;( I was so ready to inform them how I'm on a special diet and I just lost out on 40 grams of protein and have a complete ragtime rant and he had to be sooooooo nice! So here I am venting to you guys what I was unable to vent at dinner yes I know I'm crazy but at least my protein is sitting in the fridge for tomorrow!

I just had my surgery on 1/4! During this surgery my gallbladder was removed and a hiatal hernia repaired. The hospital stay was terrible. A nurse that left me in the bathroom when I was still very much dealing with anesthesia, hallways that were so filled with machines I couldn't get through to walk, and a bunch of other issues. Anyway, I'm dealing with some things and I thought I'd ask if it's pretty normal after VSG AND GB removal. I took my 3 oz of shake today fine. Then waited 30 minutes before beginning my Water. I feel like I can drink more than just a sip every few minutes. I can't chug it but I can tell I can drink sip after sip without issue. Is that okay? I was told sip slowly and small sips so I don't know if this will cause an issue at all. Which brings me to the next, every couple of hours I have to poop! It is loose, watery poop. Is this normal? Should I be concerned about the consistency? I'm worried that as I drink I just need to use the bathroom pretty urgently and I am worried it will dehydrate me because I drink then go. Pain wise, I'm okay. My largest incision, next to my belly button but slightly above it on the right side, is where I feel the most pain. The pain meds are making me too loopy and I don't feel like I need them anyway. Anyone care to give me some advice on whether I should contact my surgeon because of the diarrhea? Sorry for the TMI, I'm sure you've all heard worse! By the way, my stats are I am 21, 5'4" Pre Op weight: 266 GW: 160 I will weigh in on Mondays, I don't know what I weight this soon post op!

Almost 2 weeks ago I went for a fill. He added .5 cc's. After that I threw up constantly and was in pain. I went back this past Monday and he removed .2. After that I drink easier with no pain so I thought that fixed it. He said to do liquids for 24 hours and then eat after that. So 24 hours later I tried eating some soft food. It went down fine but the last little bit got stuck and I started throwing up again so I went back to liquids. On Wednesday I could only drink very small amounts. By yesterday I was able to drink more and I managed to get all my Protein shakes in for the day. I thought I had finally turned a corner. Then this morning I slowly drank my Protein shake. I got half of it down and started sliming and threw up. Now nothing wants to stay down-again. I called the docs office and they said Monday is a holiday so they will see me Tuesday for an unfill. I'm starting to get worried. I mean is un fill really all I need? Before that initial .5 fill that got me too tight I was able to eat everything and anything and was hungry constantly. Now I can eat nothing. I've gone from 176 to 165 and I'm still losing. Since my shake was liquid shouldn't have gone down instead of getting stuck? I'm not in pain so that's a good sign right? No pain just vomiting? TMI but ever since this started my urine stays dark and thick so I'm assuming that even though I can get some liquids down I'm still not getting enough down.

It took me a few days to get the guts to post this because frankly it is TMI, but I am now Day 4 of my bowel movements being all diarrhea. Is that normal or a cause for concern? Thanks and sorry for the topic lol. P.s. What is “dumping”. I have seen that term a few times. Does it have to do with this topic? Thanks!

Hey all! I'm just shy of 4 weeks post-op (sleeved Feb 19), and as I have progressed from pureeds to soft protiens and now into some more solid regular foods, I wanted to see how some of you coped with the learning curve that seems to come with navigating the new plumbing. There's a TMI alert that comes with this, so read at you own peril! I've probably had a half dozen incidents where either I have had one bite too many, ate maybe a touch too quickly, or just ate something too rich or too fatty-- or maybe a combo platter of these things. What usually results is a mouthful of sudden saliva, a little dizziness, and after a quick jaunt to the bathroom, it's followed by really slimy vomit, almost a mix of vomit and even more saliva. It's not a violent puking at all, in fact it's rather gentle compared to, say, a real ralph-fest from partying too hard from back in the day. I've had ti happen to me at a restaurant and even once while I was driving (thank goodness I had an empty cup in my car or that could have gotten UG-LEE. ) So my dilemma is navigating this learning curve-- trying to read the signs my body gives me that I've had enough to eat. Many times I am good at picking up on that. Sometimes, not so much, and my sleeve lets me know in the rudest way possible. I am sure this has got to be one of the speedbumps on the way to our 'new normal', right?
