    Kathy's Slow Loser NSV List

Hi Kathy, Great to see you again on the boards. I'm down about 25 lbs since June 6th. I am concentrating on the NSV and the other day I finally go into a size 22 jean. I was thrilled. Best of luck to our slow losers. We have to keep the faith.

    Two NSV!

I had two NSVs this weekend! The first happened yesterday. Yesterday me, my son, my girlfriend and her cousin played 2 on 2 basketball in the park. It was the WORST game in history because none of us are any good. But, for 45 minutes I ran around the court, guarded my son, ran after the ball, dribbled, shot and played. I wasn't winded or anything, my knees and back didn't hurt, either. In fact, I felt great during and afterward! I finally lost enough weight to be active and play with my son again! I had SOOOOOO much fun!!! I can't wait to do it again! For years I've been watching everyone around me run around and have fun, and I was finally able to join in and do it too. Then, I took a shower. When I got out, I wrapped a towel around me...it went all the way around! There were no gaps in the bottom of the towel where it doesn't close all the way! Thank you sleeve!

    Small Victories

First of all, great job! It's so important to recognize NSVs along the way, and those are awesome! Second of all, bodies are so weird. I just celebrated getting into a size 16 in a plus size store and I'm 183 pounds at 5'5. You're gonna be a size zero at that rate, great job!
  9. OK, so here is a NSV I had a few days ago. I am going to admit it is kind of immature and vain. None the less, it felt really good (evil grin). Warning: long post! My husband's sister - I will call her Shelby here- lives 4 states away and has pretty much hated me since we met. She was super close to my husband's ex-wife, the two of them are two peas in a pod. So for that reason, no matter how nice and cordial I have been to Shelby, she is outright cold and often blatantly rude to me. It goes so far as her telling my step kids off-color remarks and things she thinks about me, including one lovely piece of advice: "Just don't eat whatever Kelly eats. You don't want to end up like her, do you?" When I met her 5 years ago, I was understandably nervous and self conscious: I had 235 lbs on my 5'3" frame. In contrast, Shelby is taller and weighed maybe 140 lbs. She is also totally into appearances and looks. After we met, she called my husband and asked how he could have "down-graded" from his ex to me. I was so hurt. (But my husband promptly stood up for me and then hung up). I saw her three times over the past 5 years. Each time I felt so awkward and self conscious, knowing how judged I was in her eyes. It never should have mattered to me, but it did. Last Monday, Shelby came into town for my step-daughter's dance performance and to visit my husband's ex. I am three months post op. We did not tell Shelby or anyone on his side of the family about my surgery. I have gone from a size 20/22 to a comfortable 12 and have lost 60 lbs, down to 179 and my confidence has really began to flourish. At the dance, we spotted Shelby and her two kids. She was disheveled and looked uncomfortable. Her usually perfectly made up face was smeared and she looked like she was having a hot flash. Also, she is remarkably heavier than lat time I saw her. Now I will say I do not ever judge anyone on their weight and I never will. I have had all too much judgment and so I truly have all the empathy on those like me dealing with body image issues. But I bring it up because of the irony and scathing hell I had been on the receiving end of from her. We approached her to say hello and offer her a seat next to us. She refused, and, didn't even acknowledge me. Her face was flush and she was angry and visibly stressed. After the show my husband asked if she and the kids wanted to join us for dinner. She declined and said she was going out with my husband's ex. Again, not looking me in the eye, zero acknowledgement. I have to insert here that I was dressed nice, donned some heals, had a fresh haircut and did my makeup. (pretty fancy for a simple gal like me). I was wearing a flattering trench style long jacket that really made my waist look small. Right before we left the dance hall I was leaving the ladles room and my husband said he saw Shelby eyeing me from behind, surveying my new shape with her eyes. I went to dinner that night feeling a huge victory. A vain one- yes. But ooooh sometimes these things just feel so good. To come down to earth, I do have a muffin top from hell that if Shelby saw she would laugh in pure delight. I hide it well- but would LOVE to figure out how to lose! With rapid weight loss I am getting that skin, so I am trying to find ways to reduce it.
  10. Congrats! I had my own NSV this morning. I put on a shirt that I haven't worn in over 7 years (yeah, I'm a pack rat, can't throw anything away) AND IT FIT!. **does happy dance for you** Keep Pimpin' that Sleeve!

    Pretty fantastic NSV's

@@Elode - Congratulations on all of your NSVs and Thank You So Much for sharing these NSVs with all of us. I put this year's bonus towards my self-pay surgery and plan to spend next year's on dental work as well. Once you start taking care of yourself in one area it really is contagious. I am worth investing in myself:-) Thanks for the others as well, especially the boots. I have been promising myself every year that I will buy some boots when I can zip them up "next fall" for so many years in a row, just like so many Monday morning diets that would be put off another week. I'm only 10 days out but by next fall I hope to be where you are now. Thank you so much for sharing and being an inspiration to us all:-)
  14. I have a few NSV's to share! First, I started back to school Tuesday and I did NOT wear scrubs to school! (If you read one of my last trending post you will understand that) I actually went clothes shopping and bought some real school clothes including a size 8 in jeans!! Also, for the last two days in class I didn't wear a jacket, I didn't even bring one which is astonishing even to me because I ALWAYS have something to cover up with. Jackets are something of a security blanket to cover arms, stomach, any back fat I may have had (imaginary or not). It's a wonderful feeling to not feel self-concious while in the seated position. I can focus on my instructor instead of worrying if everything's covered and not poking out. Lastly while at Walgreens one of the lady's who works there came up to me and my daughter and said " I hope this doesn't sound rude but aren't you like half the size you use to be?" I just laughted and said yes I am, thank you! Then on the way home I started thinking dang how fat was I that the lady at Walgreens took notice Still pretty sweet NSV's if you ask me! Oh and I'm finally (34 years into life) getting braces! It's amazing how much you want to improve yourself even more when you feel good about yourself!

    May 2006 Band Crew

Hello, everyone! Some random thoughts: I had my suregery last Tuesday, the 9th, and today was the first day I felt hunger pangs. I made a can of low fat cream of chicken soup, thinking that since I was "ravenous" I could easily eat the can and once I got through about 10 spoonfuls I felt like I just ate a Thanksgiving dinner. How weird. On another note, I've lost 5 lbs. since the surgery, for a total of 15 lbs so far, and I've had my first NSV (non scale victory)... I went to get a maincure and the nail lady gasped when she saw me. She asked if I was on a diet and she said my face looked "so" thin. That was pretty awesome. I guess I'm still bloated from the surgery so my pants are tight, but apparently my face is thinning out, which is really nice. Last thing, for now. I ordered some of the clear, fruit flavored Isopure zero carb protein drinks - they taste like Gatorade or Vitamin Water - they have 40 grams of protein, no fat, no sugar and are 160 calories. So far, I like them all - a lot. Good protein alternative to the protein shakes if you're sick of the milkshake schtick. You can find them in GNC or have them shipped directly to you from the Isopure website, which I think was actually cheaper and there's a better selection. The grape frost reminds me of grape kool aid. Yum.

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?

whosya - that is amazing!!!! You're a RockStar!! lulu - good luck w/ the knee!! Don't push it too much too soon or you'll be out of commission for longer  Mindy - I'm there with you  We CAN get back on track and get this program done! I'm determined to enjoy running by the time I'm done! Ok - little NSV today. My twin sister has always been smaller than me (ALWAYS) She is one size down from me now and that's already bugging her. Today she asked me for this jogging program and told me how much she weighs - I only weight 8 pounds more than her!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's on a mission now for me not to catch up with her but that's ok I got the band to help me out (hehehehe) I'm going to do yoga (for the first time) tonight. I bought all the goodies (much to DH's chagrin) so we'll see how it works out! Have a fabulous Sunday everyone! wombat

Hey Merry May'ers! I had a huge NSV this weekend... I saw friends I haven't seen since about a month before surgery. When I got out of the car at their house, one of the folks said... "Oh my! Your face is getting skinny!" Yes, I'm glowing....

I will be 3 weeks post band tomorrow and I am 30 pounds down (16 preop, 14 postop). I went to a movie today and, guess what???????? I fit comfortably in the seat. I even put the armrest between my hubby and I down. I havn't been able to do that in years! I guess this is my first NSV!! WOOHOO!!! Good luck to all of those being banded this week. My thoughts and prayers go out to you!
  21. Its worth every single second of it People talk about the surgery being "life changing" and its very true .. People talk about how happy they are because they are achieving NSV's which is really cool too.. But you need to know that VSG is also a "life saving" procedure. I was on the verge of being a diabetic and have major heart disease but all of that disappeared with VSG. Good luck

    Best One-Year Anniversary NSV

That is an awesome NSV!!! When we're out in public I'm constantly asking my boyfriend "Am I bigger than that girl?" "Is that girl skinnier than me?" It's hard sometimes to see ourselves in our new bodies and getting some outside validation is always nice!! ____ Maggie - Make sure your doctor does every test in the book. To *me* a SLOW leak is not restriction one day and nothing the next. Port replacement seems like a pretty minor procedure. I have my fingers crossed for you.
  23. Ok so it was only in my back yard and in front of my hubby, mom and kids, but I did it!! A bikini top and 'boy' shorts (I think that is what they are called)! And when I walked past the sliding doors to the dining room, I had to walk back a few times to make sure I was really me! except for the scars on the tummy from surgery, I couldn't tell it was me! I wanted to cry! I purchased the top to wear under the sundresses that i got for vacation next week because I cannot stand to have my bra straps hanging out, and do not like the way the teens let theirs hang. I think that looks trashy! And at my age, I really do not need my bra showing! So I figured a bathing suit top looks much better! The girls may be empty sacks of skin, but they still need lots of support (c cup)!!!!! Only 4 pounds to a NORMAL BMI!!! and my personal OFFICIAL GOAL!!!!!! I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!!

    3rd surgiversary approaching

Okay, what did we used to call those "non pounds loss" happy things that happened to us? Was it NSV(non sleeve victory)? can't remember, but I've had SEVERAL today! We had a focus group meeting in my office of several Financial Advisors from around the state that I have worked with over the past many years but whom many have not seen me in a couple/several years. I had not one, not two but at least three of them single me out over the course of the 4 hour meeting and tell me how "wonderful" I looked and how much had I lost and how long, etc? FIRST, it made me realize - You know what? I HAVE accomplished a lot and I AM almost three years out! When I told one who asked when did you lose it, "Three years!" And it HIT ME! It's been three years!!! THREE YEARS!!! That made me feel really good! Just to have the affirmation again of a "job well done" and a huge accomplishment meant a great deal to me today. Not bragging, simply stating that perhaps we need to "lighten up" on ourselves some and see what others see. A real change in who we are and what we have accomplished. It surely opened my eyes today. And then... I went and ate 3, YES THREE, donuts. Oh well, its back to low carb.. )) We've got this, Pals!!!!!!
