I had my 2 week post op visit today and am THRILLED to say that I get to advance my diet from pureed to soft food. NO more gross chicken! But I found that I am quite dehydrated. I was not surprised as my nausea is not going away and I have way too many loose bowel movements (TMI sorry). The nurse practitioner said that it's very common and that I should be eating a little right when I get up and drinking lots more. UGH! I am soooo thirsty! But of course I have to "sip" not gulp or I get sicker even faster. Trying to find a happy medium here. Any suggestions? And, yes, I am on both Protonix and Zofran.

TMI aunt flow will be here for surgery what did you do
justdance posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So just wondering if any ladies can tell me if AF came for a visit when you were gonna have surgery. I'm so grossed out not sure if I'm allowed to wear a tampon.. I know they will be doing a catheter... double ewww!! Please help -
I made it thru surgery! Not as bad as I thought. My mouth was dryer than dry, but they gave me ice chips. My surgery started at 7:30am They did the sleeve & hernia, was in recovery by 9:25, in there for about an hour, the to my room at about 10:30. I was on oxygen, they took it off at 11:30, just had to remember to breath deep when the buzzer sounds, they also gave me a breathing thingy that I have to do minimum of 10 an hour, it gets deep breaths, it helps A Lot with Gas bubbles & helps so yo don't get Phenomena I've been burping a storm. Walking around my room & the halls. No nausea at all They are stayed on top of the meds while I was in the hospital, the second morning I didn't have any. I just had gas pains. Also, I was able to get out of the bed & I'm sitting in a what they call recliner... But it's better than the bed. I was able to be out of the hospital by noon the day after surgery, I hated being there, being on the IV & eating ice chips, I was able to walk to my GI & passed, so they said I was cleared t go home. We ran to get my Rx & home we came where I started drinking an Iso Pure, not the greatest, but its protein, i wasn't to bad after I mixed some powder protein with it. took for ever to drink 8 oz. but I did that twice yesterday & so I hit my minimum mark of 50 grams of protein. I figured that was a great start. the only time I took the pain meds is when I went to bed. I don't like them they knock me right out. Since this morning I have choked down a iso pure without added powder & 1/2 a 16.9 oz bottle of water guess that's not bad where its basically 10am. I am not hungry, I just keep telling myself drink this, drink this. slowly. but drink this. then I give myself a break. I weighed myself & I am down 2lbs the only reason I got on the scale is I do my measurements once a week those were not so good, but I attribute that to being swollen, my plans for the day are SHOWER! then this afternoon a walk, & maybe 1 tonight. and of course every-time I remember I use the breathing thingy. I haven't really had troubles passing gas, from either direction. I know TMI, I also had a BM. the nurses had me a bit scared about that. I had it on my own no medicines or juices. I had it in my head it was going to be worse than it was. I guess it's better to thin that then have it be better. now if I could just Fast Forward the next couple months. Hope everyone is doing well.

1st Day home - Story for upcoming banders
Freedom2008 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all I was just banded on May 1, 2008. I checked in at 5:30 am, was taken to pre-op @ 20 minutes later and here is how it went. I was assisted by a nurse and a nursing student. I was given my lovely robe and slippers and a numbing shot for my IV site. I met with the anesthesiologist and his nurse at this time also. I hit the bathroom one last time then I was wheeled off to the OR. I know this is TMI, but I gotta tell ya - try if at all possible to have a bm the morning of your surgery so that you will not have to do any pushing afterward. I remember scooting from my bed to the operating table, taking a deep breath then waking up in post op ( recovery). Before surgery I made sure to tell the nursing student to watch my face when I woke up so that if I had any pain I could get my pain meds started asap. Well, as soon I started to become aware, before I even opened my eyes, I heard the nursing student say "she's frowning!". The post op nurse asked me to rate the pain and I was given the appropriate pain killer and back off to sleep I was. I woke up @ 10:00 am to get moved to the outpatient recovery room and was able to visit with my family and watch tv for a while. I took a swallowing x-ray test and met with my surgeon who said that he wished all his bandings were as easy as mine. I guess my pre-op liver shrinking diet was worth it afterall. I have small kids so I stayed with family to be waited on while my hubbie took care of the kids at home. It was so nice - my family served me broth hot tea, Jello, Water and my pain meds. They also read all of the literature and talked about how proud they were of me for being so brave and making a healthy choice. I slept well on my left side and woke up at 4:oo am for some pain meds then was up and about reading throughout the day. I took a nap from noon to 3:00 p.m and was rested enough to come home tonight. I am still using my pain meds - though not every four hours like I was at first. I took great care not to use my stomach muscles even when they were feeling ok as I didnt want to be sore later. I also walked up and down steps several times and I think that is making my recovery so much easier. Some of my concerns: I was afraid of being aware of the breathing tube being taken out. - It was out before I becare aware of anything. I was scared about the whole naked thing - I was draped with blue paper sheets and the portion of my stomach that was operated on was the only thing showing. I was worried that my large chest would get in the way - The girls were taped up out of the way. YAY!! All in all, do not fear the pain... it is so doable and the surgery is so worth it! -
I take a GNC Solotron chewable multi-Vitamin twice daily. These are by far the best multi-vitamin I have been able to find for my needs. Plus, they taste yummy, and I don't have to swallow a horse pill. They contain bioavailable Iron which is a necessity for me since I still have all my reproductive organs, and have menstrual cycles. Sorry if that's TMI. Anyways, I take 2 of the multi-Vitamins daily (morning and evening), and I take 1 sublingual 2500 mcg B12.

Is anyone experiencing very toxic gas? Ever since my surgery I am very toxic. I googled it so I'm going to consult my PCP. Any suggestions?? -
I haven't been on this site in months, but just wanted to chime in again for Mihela's sake and let her and well, all of you know that I'm just under a year out and still no fill. The loss has definitely slowed down, but i'm down about 90 pounds with no fill, so i'm very proud of that. I am hoping to lose another 10 pounds by my 1 year bandiversary, so fingers crossed. I can eat any type of food that i want to eat but the hunger monster in my head is still quiet. i don't constantly think about food and i rarely eat more than i should. (usually only that time of the month, sorry if that's tmi ) i still don't work out as much as i need to and while the weight loss has stalled, i haven't gained anything. i am still fat but I am so happy where i am that i'm honestly ok if i stay here for a while. it took me 30+ years to gain all of this weight, so i know it won't disappear over night i do have a lot of energy and i can walk everywhere without tiring or falling out of breath. life has really changed for me in the past 11 months. so, that's my no fill story so far. i hope it continues that way as I don't want to get a fill ever if i can help it.

Thanks guys I have went through my food logs and sadly my protein has been under my requirements as my water. I always worried about being dehydrated but my( and sorry if TMI) urine is not dark or odorous could I still be dehydrated? And if so will that affect my weight loss.

I can relate, fills really muck me up for a few days. I get bad gas, really sharp pain in the very low belly, ones that can double me over, I always go three or four days without doing number 2's and get a bit constipated and my stomach rumbles and carries on making weird noises for a few days too. Once it even set off a severe bout of irritable bowel, it was horrendous. Then it seems to all even out and I'm right as rain. I had a fill on Monday and thankfully just had a most satisfying session in the bathroom, lol, (sorry, TMI) and feel normal today, not bloated and gassy.

Another embarrassing subject.....Diarrhea!
mrsto replied to mrsto's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks Missy. That actually crossed my mind earlier, but I dismissed it. Having my gallbladder out was (in my mind) such a minor thing, as my focus was on the bariatric surgery. I never gave much thought to any adjustments having it removed, because it's so commonplace. I know so many who have had their gallbladders out, and never heard any complaints about any of this stuff. I can't help but think part of it is eating so little, and drinking so much Fluid. There isn't much to bond into a good sturdy solid. TMI?? -

Nervous...first burp/choking incident.
NancyNC posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 12/23 and so far so good until this morning. I was getting ready for work (first day back) and I got choked on some phlegm/slime stuff (sorry, tmi). I just coughed very hard and gagged, never threw up, nothing to throw up probably cause I am still on liquid phase. I am nervous about damage, slipping to the band. I feel like I have a precious, delicate implant and am now nervous to cough/gag. -

Well things got complicated Friday night. Started having bright red blood in my stools (sorry if TMI) which surgeon said was fresh bleeding. Went to ER and waited almost 4 hours to be seen. Admitted Saturday morning with acute hemorrhage but no transfusion was needed. Bleeding stopped on its own and they sent me home Sunday afternoon. Glad to be home! -

If you are thinking of a revision or the sleeve (boring)....
LisaNLasVegas posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Here are my quick stats: Lap-Band in Monterrey, Mexico in 2003. Over 11 years I lost 100 pounds and gained back 40. Revision to Gastric Sleeve in Las Vegas August 5, 2014 When I was first researching about a revision surgery and the sleeve, I read about so many complications. I learned a lot about what could happen. For those of you who are debating surgery, here is my success story: My experience has been great. I have NO REGRETS. I had my revision surgery from the lap-band to a gastric sleeve in one operation. In fact, it was done as an outpatient. I arrived at the hospital at 6am and was on my couch recovering at about 4:30 pm. Since the first day I was able to drink Water and a ready-made Protein shake. It was slow drinking, but had no issues. I took my pain medication for 2 days, only because I was scared that if I didn't take them, I would have pain. I didn't. I would say the worst pain I felt on a scale of 1-10 was about a 4. I slept on my side after about 3 nights. I took a shower the day after my surgery and walked a lot. On about day 3 I got the gas pains, but took Gas X and they only were bad for about an hour. I had no problem getting in my 60 grams of protein - in fact, I usually had 80 grams (2 shakes and one powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup broth) On day 10, my Protein Shakes started to disagree with me - well, my intestines disagreed with them! As soon as I started drinking, I could feel my intestines filling with water and would have to run to the bathroom. TMI I know, but it happened. 14 days after surgery at my 2 week follow up appointment, I told my doc that the protein shakes were giving me issues and his response was to stop drinking them and "let's get you on solid foods." I haven't had one since (almost 2 weeks ago). Since then, I have been eating real food and I feel great! I have mostly had softer foods like deli turkey or eggs but last night I had salmon and it was great. I feel better today 25 days after surgery than I have felt in the last 2 years. I have lost 25 pounds but it must look like more because everyone I see is asking me if I have lost weight (I don't think I look like I have, but that's another issue.....) I have energy like never before. I sleep better. I feel "normal" when I go out to eat. I sometimes want the junk, but I am able to resist. My stomach has NEVER growled and I don't feel hungry. Sometimes I feel "empty," but I can wait to eat. I am a boring patient. I LOVE being boring! Anyone else out there proud to be boring? -
I had a fill to 7.5 June 4, 2012. I lost 10 pounds. But like always I lose 10 pounds after each fill then I get stuck. I have been slimming a lot lately it's not really my food coming up just really think slimy saliva. Sorry TMI! I had surgery July 20, 2011 and have only lost 55 pounds so I'm pretty slow loser! Do I need an unfill? Is it dumb to think that if I get an unfill I might start losing again? I find myself getting so tired of not having anything go down so I resort to chips, mash potatoes soups! I'm tired of living off those things. Maybe I'm not eating as slow or small as I thought i was. Another thing, when I eat chips or mash potatoes I feel like I can eat a whole lot is that because they go through the band so Easily? I'm confused on what I need to do! I have an app to get an unfill Monday.

It's my time of the month and I want to eat everything under the sun! How do you all deal with this?

Flying to Mexico for Weight Loss Surgery
MHOUSE replied to mledbetter0511's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
An aisle seat would be the best. I didn't want to crawl over people to use the restroom. My other suggestion, and I'm sorry if it's TMI, but try be be near a bathroom on the plane home. I had diarrhea from the antibiotics. -
Hello guys! I am 3 weeks post op VSG as of tomorrow morning. I have yet to feel the slightest feeling that even resembles hunger. As a matter of fact I pretty much have a total aversion to all food. I manage to sip two premier Protein shakes (total 60 G protein) throughout the day each day. I manage to get enought Water (has to have crystal light in it) each day too. I almosy constantly feel nauseated (new feeling as of this week). I have VERY low energy and have now been on my time of the month for 5 weeks. It started the day I began my 2 week pre-op full liquid diet and has continued to get heavier and more painful throughout the 5 weeks. Has anyone else experience this? I am down 36 lbs @ 3 weeks. Sorry if TMI but I figired this was a good safe place to share and get feedback from others Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

Hello, world. I thought I'd take the time to formally list out my non scale victory goal list. Having been around the weight loss block and back again oh say.. 10 times over (enough already!).. I recognize the importance of setting scale and non scale victories for myself. As a young lay-daaay (oh, haaaai!) who has been overweight all my life but with a trendy, fashion-loving sense of style, I have a long one. Sure, I have my weight and health goals. Of course. I've had them for years. But now's the time to list out every detail - big and small - that I have wanted to get to my entire life but due to my weight, have yet to achieve... and keep. Mr. List - I vow to come back to you throughout my weight loss journey for motivation, reminders, celebrations and reality checks.. for those plateaus and frustrating times to keep me going. I'm starting with 18 because I'm a superstitious freak and that's my lucky number. Ready, set... Fitting into designer skinny jeans. Not James Jeans from Salon Z at Saks (though I do love you, boo), but honest to goodness designer denim: Sevens, J Brand, Joe's. Tankini... or, dare I say it.. bikini? Sitting in a chair without something in my lap - a sweater, HUGE BAG, or hiding behind a table to hide the rolls of my stomach. Who am I fooling? The end of thigh chafing. TMI, but Chicago summers? Come ON. More easily tying or strapping on m'shoes sans tummy to make things difficult. The end of plus sized clothing options. Confidence to show my arms. Rock a Rent the Runway dress (standard sizing) for the next wedding I attend! Courage and energy for spinning classes at Fly Wheel or Soul Cycle Easily do ten perfect push ups - the bain of my existence in all my current workout vids! Zipping into my favorite top from my studying abroad (thinnest days) Fitting into any clothing item smaller than an XL or single digits Shop in the same stores/sections as my girlfriends and be able to buy more than just accessories! Take photos without hiding behind people. Actually needing a belt. (Not just for a fashion statement) Able to be carried... On top. Nuff said. Cross my legs... easily, with a sky high pair of platforms, natch. More to come! Anybody else? What are your NSV goals, hopes or achievements? Mine may seem random or superficial, but so many times in my life I've wanted to be able to more easily do these things but my weight has prevented me from enjoying them.

I was weighed at the hospital pre and post op (I gained about 4 pounds IV fluids, edema, etc) After that I waited 2 weeks to weigh and I had lost around 10 pounds from pre-op weight! BM were really hard with me, pun intended. After about a week I had the urge to go and it was so hard it got stuck TMI i know, so i had to remove it with gloves and glyceryn supositories, just telling you this so you make sure you get in enough fluids and bebfiber if your doctro allows you!

So I was banded in March had a fantastic start. Dropped 20 PDS in the first two weeks. Got my first fill May 1st and did pretty good (nobody mentioned it would hurt to get your first fill lol) well now the last 3 days I've been getting sick no vomit but salty saliva and sometimes the gut reaction but no vomit. I've chewed and chewed and I've drank and drank. Fluids perfectly fine...foods not so hot. Nothing taste good I would rather just drink fluids all day. Tmi moment approaching (I'm just starting my woman time) is KT possible my band is just oober tight from the fill and my woman time (noticed it got tight last month too) I'm not sure if I'm battling an illness or if its band related. Oh and in case your wondering I'm not prego lol.

Before surgery I had issues going to the bathroom. I took a probiotic daily and that seemed to help. 3 weeks post-op & still having issues trying to going #2. I was given the ok to take my probiotic, doesn’t seem to help. I have tried taking MiraLAX doesn’t seem to help. I have taken ex-Lax & that seems to work but makes my stomach really crampy. I have only gone twice in almost a month! ( I had to take ex-lax both times.) Anyone have any suggestions?! TIA
