It took me months post-op to build up to walking 2 miles continuously. I HAD lots of foot and knee pains. I started out by parking as far from my office's front door as possible and walking in. From there I started walking the perimeter of the building 4 times every morning. Like I said, it took months, but eventually I built up my endurance and my feet and knee pains went away. http://www.bariatricpal.com/blogs/entry/31216-nsv-2-you-best-step-off-b-hatch/

@@nprcowboy I'm so thrilled that your doing so well! I really worried about you in the beginning but I just had a feeling it would all turn around! You're blessed so many NSV!! Yay!

Hide the scale. Right now it's too much of a trigger for you. Focus on eating well, getting in your fluids and exercising. Try to not weigh yourself for a month. If that's too long, then try for 2 weeks. Look for NSV and focus on living a healthier lifestyle. You can do this!

The reason is that it requires 100 posts on this forum. Easy way to get that is to welcome newbies, congratulate people on NSV etc. You don't need to start 100 posts, just make 100. I think you are up to 6 or 7 now.

Surgery 3/26/15 HW: 302 CW: 228 (-74) It is sooooo crazy how if I eat bad foods (bad, bad girl), I don't feel full, but a half a scrambled egg or 3 bites of grilled chicken make me belch like crazy because I am FULL. Obviously this is how I hit 302. It's getting a lot easier to live my new life but I could always use more exercise. Lots of great NSVs Great job, everyone!!! ---- One more thing -- how the H does low-fat vanilla yogurt have 40 grams of sugar and honey roasted peanuts have 4 grams? The sugar content of foods has definitely been eye-opening.

NSV - - Coaching daughter tball team this summer - wrapping a normal size towel around me and it fitting! - people that I know fairly well not seeing me for two months and not recognizing me when they do - dressing up - my hair - it feels amazing and looks amazing. I never realized how the food I put in my body could have an effect on my hair! Ever since surgery and better food choices my hair feels/looks good! Like I just went to the salon that day! - exercising- it's actually a little addictive and the days I don't get my at least 3 mile walk in I feel guilty and crappy. - my hubby being able to wrap his arms all around my waist with extra room to spare. This feels sooo good! - my confidence - it has sky rocketed! I walk around my house in a sports bra and don't feel like I have to hide my body in front of my hubby. I know I have so many more but this is what I can think of off my head right now. What are some of yours?

I was sleeved on June 9th. I was 239 on surgery day, but my high weight was 244. I weigh 212 as of this morning. Nausea is gone. food is simply fuel, and I don't (often) think of it as my best buddy. That said, I do sometimes miss how it feels to tuck in to a hot hoggie. I bought one for my husband the other day, and pulled out three slices of sliced meat and a bit of melted cheese. It satisfied the craving and I did not feel deprived. I take Biotin and Vitamin D along with my multi vitamin daily. I have an antacid to take with meals. I still get tired from time to time, but know I just need to rest when my body tells me to. No dragon breath yet. I'm wondering when ketosis will kick in. To keep active, I've been doing a lot of yard work and household chores along with walking. I will join the gym this fall when school starts. My husband tells me I no longer snore. My first NSV! Stepping way out of my comfort zone, I booked my first ever massage for July 29th. I've always been too self-conscious to do it before, but now I figure - get over it!~ I'm really looking forward to it.

I can't remember the last time....
The Candidate replied to briefs199's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That is a stellar NSV! Congrats all around! -
@ No, do not cry! I felt that same way when I was with my kids, I didn't want to embarrass them. My mom is super morbidly obese and one of my earliest memory's was having a parents come to school day which my mother attended ( she is an artist, painter) After she left one of the little kids said something to me about how big my mom was. We were only 5-7 years old. I never realized my mom was different, I just loved her. I remember that really caught me off guard and I went home and cried which in return made my momma cry. I think that kinda stuck with me so When I was at my heaviest I didn't go up to the school unless I absolutely had to. Most of my daughters friends had never met me. A few months ago my daughter was in a "grace notes" competition for school and I got dressed up and went to watch her. After the competition was over on the way home my daughter said "mom you want to hear something funny?" After you left my friend said "I hope this doesn't offend you but your mom looks like a Barbie doll". Ha! Can you believe it??! I just smiled and said "whatever" but on the inside I was fist pumping ! That my friend was one heck of a NSV!!! You too will have your moments, just wait!

I got my wedding ring back on today! So happy!!

Congratulations on doing so well. And Congrats on your 1st NSV!! :-P food losing it's domination over my thoughts was the best part of VSG WLS. Thoughts about what/when I was going to eat ceased the day after surgery. Up until then, I was always planning my next meal because I KNEW I was going to be hungry in 2 hours, no matter how much I had just eaten. So, I feel uneasy when I read questions about "When can I eat _____ again?" or "I am worried I can't eat ______ ever again." When I read things like this, I am worried the person who posted isn't ready for WLS because it does take a commitment on their part to change their eating habits. And they may still be too attached to certain foods. I was soooooooo ready to be DONE! with the control food had over my life. It looks like you are too! I am so happy for you for taking control of your life. 3-C plan for success! Control what you can (your actions and thoughts). Cope with what you can’t (external emergencies and other’s behavior). Concentrate on what counts. Stay positive. Believe in yourself. Focus on your progress, not perfection.

NSV Today at the Dr.'s !
Bandista replied to B-52's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is a great NSV, B-52! I'm with you in the easy. My life is so much easier now. -
There was once a time...that I needed to see not only my PCP, but my Endocrinologist, Cardiologist, Dermatologist. PCP was every 3 months with repeated lab work.... Everything was out of control. All my blood work was helter skelter. Get one thing under control, another thing would go through the roof. Not to mention high BP, etc. Taking more medications than I can remember, and different combinations and dosages were having no effect. Dermatologist was a regular routine due to chronic skin rashes, infections. Some landed me in the Hospital in an isolation room....mask and gown for the nurses to enter..... Diabetes totally out of control, kept raising the medications with no results. Where would it end? Today I had my annual visit with my PCP...yes, I said annual. Only see him once a year now. And today, as with last year and the year before that, my Lab results were PERFECT!!! My weight unchanging!!! Leaving, I made my appointment for July 2016 !! Same with my cardiologist...once a year. Routine visit. Don't see an endocrinologist anymore. That's all behind me. And I don't have skin issues anymore so no more dermatologist needed. I only visit the weight loss center and surgeon once a year. All because I had Weight Loss Surgery !!!!! My PCP asked if I had any regrets with WLS....are you kidding me??? I would probably not be here if I didn't...I'd be dead!! He nodded and agreed.....I would not be here today if not for Weight Loss Surgery. A surgical intervention to accomplish what I am not ashamed to say I could not do on my own with diets.

How Much Weight Did You Lose in the First Couple if Weeks?
BLERDgirl replied to Slim-Shady's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Adding to the chorus: STAY OFF THE SCALE. During the first 6 mths most of us see the doctor often enough that we will be able to monitor our weight. Focus on the program. Make sure you are getting in 60+gms of Protein and 64+ounce of Water every single day. If you are hitting those benchmarks aim for higher. Not only will it help with the weight loss, it will also help with the energy level. If you need to measure something take your measurements (boobs, neck, waist & hips). Lastly learn to savor NSV (non-scale victories). Things like jeans getting loose, seatbealts not as tight, feet no longer swollen, etc.... Take joy in how your body is changing and you won't get discouraged. -

ProudGrammy replied to TrillTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
back to topic guys "what was your final straw" i had so many trips/falls due to my heavy weight - knee replacements femur broke twice, etc i slowly realized that all my excess weight caused these problems falling since i had problems because of my "excess" weight i was always so sad about my weight weight gain, weight loss, weight gain etc, etc realized i had so many health problems i needed help, immediately hello sleeve good by diabetes meds/high blood pressure meds, no more CPAP my big NSV one was having my epilepsy meds dosage cut in half i was taking dosage for someone that weighed 235 lbs now that my weight was going down, down etc - i was taking too taking to many meds/pills so meds were less for a smaller person life is great now that's my story and i'm sticking to it kathy -
At first I was concerned about the whole "not being recognized" phenomenon. I've found it has become a real rush for me depending upon how the person "recognizing" me approaches me. I've found it mostly happening in the gym and in general people are sincerely impressed with the work I've done and how it's changed me. That's a big NSV! Occasionally I get someone who notices but was previously a person who "looked through me" (the whole invisible obese person thing). That usually pisses me off, like I want to say "buzz off, you didn't care before....get your sideshow thrills elsewhere."

Benefits of losing weight slower than expected
butterfly23 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 3 months post-op and am tired of focusing on how much I have not lost. I’ve been eating 80-100 g of Protein, drinking at least 70 ounces Water, staying under 1000 calories and am active. I started at very high weight and expected to lose more than 45 lbs my first 3 months, but I am tired of focusing on what I have not lost instead of what I have gained. I am so grateful for my sleeve and my chance to live a healthier life. This is my ode to losing weight more slowly than expected and the benefits: More time to develop healthy eating habits before maintenance Skin has more time to catch up (more time to lotion!) Shifting focus to NSVs like sitting in booths and chairs with arms Less chance of gallstones Opportunity to practice loving kindness towards myself and being grateful for any positive change Chance to manage expectations – if it wasn’t for WLS, I’d be thrilled with my loss, so why not be thrilled now? Practice focusing on my own wins and not comparing self to others Not having to explain to others since loss isn’t dramatic (yet) Chance to trust the process and not focus on the end (self-care, water/protein/low-carb/active) Redefine success as how I feel, not numbers on scale Understanding this is not a diet, this is my lifestyle now, so what is the rush? Have you had a benefit to a stall or slower than expected losing?- 20 replies

Where are you from? What surgery did you have? When did you have surgery? (Only if you want to answer) How much weight loss? Favorite Protein food? Hardest food to eat? Biggest NSV (non-scale victory) so far? One interesting fact about yourself?
