    Liquids

I started the liquid diet today. So far I'm doing really well. I had a premiere protein shake(caramel) I added 1 scoop of genepro and topped it off with some coffee. That took me up until a little after 10 a.m. I started at 8:30 a.m. I'm not hungry but I have some Gatorade2 lime that I've been sipping on. I have some jello for lunch. I'm not supposed to start the diet until next Wednesday on the 22nd. However, I want to start early so that I can get the most out of my sleeve. Surgery is on March 1st. Pray for me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

UHC Oxford 6 month waiting period

Hello, I also have UHC and they are pretty strict with the 6 month program. It seems like a long time but really the time flew by. I would suggest you make sure you are on a good 6 month plan. I know someone who did WW but didn't track all of the exercise etc and got denied. My surgeon's office has a whole team that will assist with the 6 month program and they know what it takes to get you approved through your insurance. I just got approved for my surgery, it only took them 10 days from the date the ppk was submitted. Also the plan helps you to start eating better so it is not such a drastic change. As for your job, I am not sure about that but if you lost it, it would probably still be cheaper to get the COBRA coverage than to self pay for the surgery. Best of luck.

Living forever with the Lap band

There is nothing that says it should be replaced every 10 years or so....... I am a size 8 (Australian) which equates to a size 4 US. My port doesn't stick out but I am sure everyone is different. It depends on where the port is placed and where you lose your weight. I have skinny hips/legs but do not have a completely flat stomach.

    Pre-Op Diet Question

I'm on a similar pre-op diet but mine is 1200 calories and my NUT wants me to lose about 10 lbs before surgery (even though I don't have insurance approval yet). 1700 is fine. Your body needs a minimum of 1200 calories a day in order to prevent it from going into starvation mode.

    All Right

Okay guys....IM BORED~ And this sucks. I hate to be bored. My boy is asleep....my mom is watching TV...Im on this computer....WHAT TO DO WHAT TO DO~~~ Its too cold outside to do anything......My cleanning is all done. My sons birthday party is all planned. I actually have free time and I dont know what to do with it. My body is in shock and its retaliating with BOREDUM....I could read, but Im too restless. I have my Christmas cards all ready done and sent out........I could wrap presents but then I run the risk of my son catching me......8 years ago today I was admitted into the hospital to have my son, and he was born THREE days later. I cant tell you how much pitosin I was given...GALLONS it seemed. But I had my little boy on 12/19/97....at 6:15am.........He is my Christmas Mirical thats for sure. He was sooo little when he came home, he was a month premature, I was going to bring him home in a stocking..ehehehehehe He was born early on purpose, because I was having such a complicated pregnancy. DUMDEEDUUUU I am so bored....I am so bored......why am I bothering you all with this?? Well thanks for listening...maybe I will listen to some music...STAINED....that show by the way WAS SOOOO FREEKIN COOL!!! Hey, the bar is right down the street~~ with in walking distance, so I could technically go have me a calorie infused drink and walk it off.....eeeeyaaaa no...That could be bad....this bored and drinking..... wouldn't mix well...I would have to wear the happy boots and a trench coat~ ehehehe HAY THATS NOT A BAD IDEA.......ok going to do something...maybe take a HOT SHOWER....or lay here and count arm hairs or something equally stupid. LATER GUYS
  7. Surgery went well, after a few hours of being in the hospital it became so overwhelming. I had an anxioity attact. I came home yesterday. Still overwhelmed. Please keep me on prayer. Sharon
  8. Hi all I have not posted in quiet some time... busy... you know... but I am at 9 months and I thought I'd give an update. for all the challenges that this type of surgery can present (in my case pretty minor, a little extra skin, frustration over slow weight loss etc.) I would absolutly, hands down do it again. I was so scared at first. I remember I started crying in the elevator on the way up to surgery... just overwhelmed with the idea of permanantly altering my body. The people on this forum did soooo much to help me stay sane before and after. My biggest challenge has been that I am a slow looser. I "only" had 57 lbs to loose, so I expected to be at goal pretty fast. I think there were two months when I lost more than 10 lbs, but other than that its been pretty slow (relatively speaking, I could have never achieved this without surgery). A couple of months ago I was diagnosed with hypothyridism and have since started on meds. Although I feel better, I still only lost 2 lbs this month. I have 8 to go. It may take me 4 months to get there... but I guess I'll get there. Before surgery I was a binger. I would go on a super restrictive diet until I couldn't stand it... then binge on everything I could get my hands on. Yesterday, after doing my monthly weight in and discovering I had only lost 2lbs I slipped back into "bing" mode and had about 5 chips with queso and two Peanut Butter Cookies. The cookies make me kind of sick (I think I have a little dumping syndrome, which is probably for the best). That was all I was able to eat for the rest of the day. Granted... not the best way to deal with frustration (I'm really working on finding better coping skills and thats the first "binge" since surgery) but, if I'm going to binge 500 calories is a lot better than 5000 (not and exageration). If your considering surgery... don't let this put you off....most of you will loose much faster and if you do happen to be a slow looser, its a little frustrating, but eventually the weight comes off (I was considered low bmi pre-surgery, I think most people with higher bmi's loose at a much quicker pace). Although I am so happy about loosing the weight... I am most pleased with the psychological changes that have taken place. I have a sense of being satisfied most of the time now. Its not that I feel restricted to "only" eating small amounts of food, its that small amounts of food are emensly satisfying, much more so than huge amounts of food used to be. It's allowed me to let go of that constant focus on what I will eat next... what diet I will go on next etc. I feel like I can just live now. Bottom line.... I would do it again in an instant!!!!! I hope you are all doing well on your journey thanks for reading stacey

This...meaning insurance approval with Cigna. I was Denied because I was shy a 40 BMI by 10 -12 pounds when I submitted everything they were looking for I jumped thru every hoop and paid out every last cent to docs. etc. but I should have know (and not listen to people on this site that said Cigna does cover with no co mobidities - NOT TRUE) they clearly state that they do not cover those under a 40 BMI unless you have grave illness that don't respond to meds.. Not only that but they will not approve any claim even related to this one in the future. Meaning if I gain 10 pounds in the next year.even if I maintain that for a year and..easy to do at my age...they won't even consider it. My fear is of dying of a heart attack like my twin sister did of obesity last year. My chest is so huge it strangles me at night and causes sleep apnea that doesn't appear on the "test" ...another few hundred bucks there. My warning to those seeking insurance approval with CIGNA....if you're not starting out with a 40 BMI save your money until you are or get a loan unless you can clearly prove a comobidity. BMI - high end plus 10 pounds?

Stop where you're comfortable. We all get wrapped up in numbers. I am only 5' 3" but I plan on being around 150-160. I will probably wear a 9-10 thats what I was before my kids.. It was perfect for me and yet its still overweight for my height. I will continue to lose and then maintain when I feel that I am comfortable : ) I wish you the best of luck.

    Omg - I Am Booked

How is this for anxious....:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: My consult with Nisrene at TLBC if on April 13th and because I don't want to waste any time whatsoever, I called her this am to ask if I could book the surgery now as I feel so well informed etc especially from my very very informative friends here, she agreed and I will be banded on April 26th. She said that I will need 7 to 10 days for the pre op diet so that was the soonest. I am freeeaaaaaakiiiiinggggg out!!!!! I feel so ready for this. I know I can lose the wait but I cannot keep it off. Each time I lose I gain back even more. I have reached 205 which I didn't even weigh when I delivered my first child. I am off to San Andres Island tomorrow for one week but I look forward to talking with you guys soon. Thank you again, all of you for your inspiration, courage and support D

    Just Banded On 8/07...ouch!

Hey Michelle..thanks for the compliment...OKAY now I see what you mean...well unfortuanately they didnt band our brains...giggling....so we still have that same desire for pizza or whatever but think of this...soon and TRUST me it will be sooner before you know it...you will be able to eat a slice of pizza the great thing about it is that you will have 1 or 2 NOT 10 or 12 LOL....I still have an appetite and when I get ready to eat I think DANG I AM SO hungry I could eat 1/2 this burger or 1/2 this Pizza but that is the beauty of the band because once you start you quickly figure out that 1 piece will definitly satisfy that hunger and you will feel full!

    Measuring

8 weeks out. My full liquid stage was only days 1-3 post op. I was instructed beginning day four to have two shake meal replacements and one puréed protein meal. I was told to weigh that purée meal on a kitchen scale working up to 4oz over a 10 day period. It took me two weeks to be able to reach that quantity and I was getting in only about 30-40 oz of water each day at that point.

    Hi Everyone

Hello, I was also banded on 8/14 but am still having port tenderness. Also, I get a fill on 9/23 too...very strange! I lost 10 lbs prior to surgery and have lost 20 since but like you, have little restriction. I do have some but not a lot. Best of luck to you!
  16. Hello, I was banded 03/07/11 and I am still really swollen and in pain. Everyone I know with the band weren't swollen at all like me and was pain free by 2nd wk. It frustrates me cause I.m trying to get back to work, but my port site and my right side is swollen and I.m worried about it. Just to say my port is in the middle of my belly. Is there anyone that was still swollen and feel pain in there 2nd wk. Is this normal?

  18. SW: 274.4 Surgery Day: 265 CW: 231.2 GW: 159 Surgery Date: May 23, 2019 I am almost 9 weeks post op, and it was the most challenging times in my life. Never think this is a quick fix! I have lost 43.2 lbs, over 15% of my body weight. I feel so much better, but eating is still a daily struggle to change old habits. I finally notice the inches lost and the energy gained, but still have 72 lbs left to lose. Has anyone lost the excess weight and got to a BMI under 25? It seems so far away. Question??!!??

I eat regular food. I don't drink Pepsi like I did preband. I don't drive thru like I did preband. I don't eat even half as much food as I did preband. Yesterday I had a slice of cinnamon raisin bread, toasted w/ apple butter; a 32 oz Mt. Dew; a handfull of tostitos w/ salsa; and for supper I baked pork chops and made sesame seed bun pork chop sandwiches with seasoned fries. I ate all the toast. I drank less than half the drink, but it was mostly ice so eventhough the cup said 32oz, it only held about 20...so I had about 10 oz. I ate half the sandwich and about 3 fries. With the band, if you let the band do it's job, you don't have to cottage cheese and slim fast yourself to death. Because I had soda yesterday, today will be no calorie drinks, and I'll up the veggies today. It's all choices and moderation. (didn't mention the workouts because I don't exercise) - but you should! I don't want to be blasted because I said I don't exercise.

    Gasey problems

Hey there - I was banded 10/6 and gas pains creep up around my left shoulder blade at times. My husband rubs and gently pounds on my back. Helps a lot. What are you eating?
  21. I've had the info seminar and I'm meeting with the surgeon next Wednesday. Not sure what procedure I'll have, but leaning toward the sleeve. I have a friend who got the lap band 10 years ago and she has put it all back on. Another friend got the sleeve 2 years ago and is really struggling. She's gained back 35 and in crisis. My main worry is not the surgery, but regaining weight down the road, like happened with all my other big weight losses. Any advice from the long-term folks? This is the one aspect that terrifies me. Thanks!

    Is my plan realistic?

5 and a half months and 48 lbs seems realistic. That is just over 2 lbs a week. I think most PS will do surgery on you when you are 10-20 lbs from goal. I'm 216 and my goal weight is 185. My goal for surgery is 200. That would put me 15 lbs from goal. Let me know what your surgeon thinks.
  23. This is my plan. Please tell me if it is totally unrealistic. I have around 48 or slightly less to my goal, which is 10 lbs. less than my doctor’s goal. I have lost a little over 1 lb/week. I was averaging a little more weight loss until the last month. I got out of the routine of logging my food. As a result, I have not lost as much as I could have this past month. I’m logging again now and working on making it a routine. I’ve started looking into PS and have been following many of your journeys. I am planning BL with TT or possibly a LBL. I was originally thinking I’d like to have it done in December. I’m now thinking I’d like to have PS in August (around mid month, which is 21 - 22 weeks away.) I have met with one PS who thinks it is realistic if I can get closer to goal. I meet with another this coming Tuesday. Obviously, PS in August would require me to plan and get serious about what I eat as well as to substantially increase my exercise. For those of you who have PS experience, is August too soon for PS with the amount of weight I still need to lose? Any insight is appreciated.
  24. OK, so I'm trying out some options for when I have to do the liquid protien diet and found something really GOOD. I mix up a batch (2 cups) of SF Jello and add a scoop of unjury unflavored. I put it into 2 1 cup individual serving cups, then when I'm ready to eat it I add a squirt (small) of Redi-Whip. It comes out to 10 gm protien, 1 gm carb, 75 calories, and its yummy!! I think the whipped cream hides the slight wang of the whey protien or something, or maybe It just makes me feel like I'm cheating, which technically, I guess I am...
  25. I am so frustrated. I blew our savings to have this surgery and now I don't think its working. I have lost 5 lbs and I am 10 days post op. I am getting in my Protein and most of my Water. I am still in the clear/full liquid phase. The only possible thing I can think happened is I eat a pudding because I was so sick and tired of drinking Protein shakes so I add my protein to my pudding and between that and the protein shakes I am at like 25-30 grams of carbs a day. Please tell me there is hope. I am so upset
