Question for the ladies about that "special" time...
Comfy_Blue posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow and woke up this morning to find that my period has started. When I first joined this site, I thought I remembered someone saying that you can still have the procedure while on your period because they're not going into your uterus, but I couldn't find that post. So my questions are: 1. Will starting my period delay my surgery? 2. Assuming I can still have surgery, is it better to wear a sanitary napkin or tampon tomorrow? (i heard that some people use a catheter after surgery. I'm not sure if I will be one of them because I'm only supposed to stay overnight Monday and go home Tuesday) 3. For those of you who were menstruating while having the operation, did you find that it was hard to change your pad/tampon because you were sore from surgery? Which would you recommend using while you're recovering post-op during those first few days? Thank you and sorry for the TMI, but it's Sunday, so I can't call my surgeon to ask. -
Hey - I just had all my 4.5 oz removed from my band because of an upcoming trip to rural China. We were concerned about issues I may have over there (and no way to get help). I will have it put back in mid-November. Anyway, I never even thought to ask my doc but has anyone else had a removal of Fluid? I am very nauseous and having diarrhea/gas (sorry if TMI). Is it just my stomach getting used to more food at one time? It is very strange feeling. Any help advice/appreciated. I am leaving the country and 36 hours and want to know if this is normal. Great post, thanks for the update! I also had a problem with a little "bubble" on the very end of 2 of my incision sites, but the nurse said it was totally normal. On another note, my scars have turned a more dark pink and are "sticking" out a bit more than I think they should. Again, the nurse said ok, no problem and they have since dried up and fallen off (sorry for TMI). I got my first fill this last Tuesday (3.25cc in 10ccband) and it changed me in SO many positive ways, am SO glad I got it. Keep us updated!

Had my surgery on 9/1/15. --Arrived at hospital at 9AM --Registration done and arm band applied by 9:15AM --Off to Lab for pregnancy urine test by 9:40AM --Back to lobby waiting for nurse --Pre Op nurse came for me about 9:50AM --Changed into hospital gown --Vitals and medical history taken --OR nurse came with same questions --Surgeon came in to explain what I should expect --Anesthesiologist came in to take medical history --OR anesthesiology nurse came with more questions --NP from surgeon office came in to discuss post op diet and medication --Wheeled to OR by 1PM --I do not remember anything after that --Woke up in room nauseated as hell. --Started sipping Water from the medicine caps but I just kept throwing up --Walked around the floor 2 times --Discharged at 11PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 2 ===== --Stayed in bed nauseated and in pain --Got my nausea medication and felt much better --Difficult to keep stuff down Day 3 ===== --Feeling better --Sipping water --Having popsicle --TMI (Passing gas) --Belching so much. --Sat up and did this Day 4 - Day 7 ========== --It has been hard to get the 60g of Protein but I am getting in at least 30g --Walking around comfortably but there is that gravity pull on the incisions that kind of hurts --I have been having plenty of sugar free popsicles --Stopped taking pain meds already --Occasionally taking the anti nausea and vomit med...as needed --Enjoying shower, the glue on the incision is still on. Day 8 ==== --(TMI) finally had bowel movement, was about to start taking milk of magnesium! --Down 10lb since surgery day --Planning on thickening my fluids (soups) a bit from today --Definitely worth all the pain that seemed like would never end. So I'm 2 1/2 weeks out (6/11) and my husband asked if we can have sex yet. I'm from the old school and believe in keeping my man satisfied. So we tried it missionary and I was fine but he was being too gentle and kept asking are you OK? Does it hurt? I was like that's the problem it doesn't hurt come on already I'm fine. And just when it was getting good my four year old wakes up and walks in my room! She stared for a min then runs out screaming and crying "daddy's hurting mommy he's gonna kill her surgery " needless to say we didn't finish! I'm happy to know I'm getting better tho a few days ago I couldn't fathom the thought of laying flat let alone having sex. Sorry if this was tmi but I had to share with someone and who better than my rny family

I have no clue what size I wear usually, so I go in every 20-30 pounds and ask them to re-measure me. There's an outlet store near me that carries a variety of brands and the girls are really good about doing the measurements. I had it done about 2 months ago at Lane Bryant and the girl measured me WAY wrong. If it's not TMI, my "girls" are about between a C-D cup and she came up with DDD. Which might be right if I had a 28 inch torso!

To Barf, Or Not To Barf?... That Is The Question.
sabrina140 replied to sabrina140's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After posting that I had the same thought as you... walked in to the bathroom and let it out. (Sorry again, tmi)... I must have chewed really good, because it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be... tummy is happy again. Wheeeew. SLOW DOWN SABRINA (<-- note to self! >_< ) -
So okay, I tried to be patient about this but....I can't take it anymore, I have to talk about it. I was banded on 6/17/11 and have lost a good amount of weight. I'm happy about that but I have been on the plateau for like 2 weeks. I have actually gained 2 lbs. Well actually, I was sick about a week and a half ago and lost 8 lbs in 2 days because I had a really bad stomach virus and just had really bad diarrhea, so basically (I pooped out 8 lbs) sorry TMI! Which means really that was water weight, but now I can't seem to get going again. My diet hasn't changed, I still eat and do the same things I did before I got sick. Probably more exercising so I don't get it. I have had 3 fills and not at 5.8cc in a 10cc band. How long will it take for my weight loss to start again? I need help!!!

nauseous when needing to go to the bathroom
GB2011 replied to carolann0117's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I did today and thought I was going to throw up, but I hadn't eaten anything. I chalked it up to having bad gas and transitioning to solid #2 from the runny (I know...TMI)! -
food poisoning= weight loss. boo. sorry for the TMI
jingleboob posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Normally I would be thrilled to have dropped 12 lbs in less than a week. But I've been sick as a dog since Friday morning. Nobody else at Thanksgiving got sick so we can't figure out whagt caused it. Friday was the worst with throwing up, leg and arm cramps, stomach cramps that made me scream in pain, diarrhea. By saturday it was just the lower intestinal issues... and still they continue. Day 4 today. Pepto did nothing, Immodium did nothing. I'm expelling quarts of liquid in the wrong way and I'm having a hard time keeping up with my fluids. feeling light headed today, not thrilled to be at work with these issues but can't call in at the moment. any suggestions? I'm keeping everything down now. Looking for foods that will help bind me up. At this point even loose stool would be better than pure liquid. Sorry for the description. I will call my pcp tomorrow if it's not any better, but don't know what they'll be able to do that I'm not already trying. -
Today I honestly questioned if I have some type of undiagnosed mental condition. I've been paranoid all day to the point of tears. I woke up thinking OMG I hope I don't have blood clots in my legs. I felt like I couldn't breathe. My body was tired. I thought maybe I was drinking to much. I sucked down a warm 12 ounce cup of decaf lemon green tea with no problem. Of course it gave me the "RUNS" (TMI) but my sleeve tolerated it and didn't fill up. I was worried half the day I had broken my sleeve. I also felt dehydrated. When I wasn't going through my psychosis I was sleeping. SMDH I made myself get out of the house and the fresh air helped to clear my head. I went to GNC and Target. I pushed myself to get out of the car. My body didn't want to do it. In Target I was sweating profusely and winded. My youngest son was with me and was very good with asking me if I was okay, By the time we got home I felt so much better. I truly believe we need to get out of the house after sugery. I walked my first and second day post op but hadn't been back out. It's so important to try to normalize your life after sugery or you just might go crazy!

I was sleeved on Feb 4th. , so that makes me 12 days out. I started a full liquid diet 2 weeks pre op then swithed to full liquids about 1 week preop. I have not has any bowel movement since a week before surgery (the start of clear liquids). I came home from MX. I am doing wonderful. I just started full liquids 2 days ago, which really only have consisted of clears and creamed pureed soup, about a cup a day, also protein shakes and protein added to other clear liquids. My question is, should I of had a bowel movement by now? I do not feel constipated but am becoming somewhat achey. I was prone to getting constipated whenever I went on a diet in the past. Also, I am concerned with what I take considering I am not even 2 weeks out from surgery yet. I am afraid to take anything because of my new stomach healing. If something is recommended anyone no anything mild on the stomach? I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Constipation During Liquid Diet
micci_micci33 replied to CurlyV's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG! I experienced the same thing this morning. It was the worst pain I have ever felt. I thought I was going to faint on the toilet. I’m 10 days post-op and I have been taking stool softener every night. Anyone else have any suggestions? I’m drinking the smooth move tea as I type this.. I’ve also increased my water intake and have been consuming 2 premier shakes everyday since surgery. Please help!!!! TMI, but my rectum still hurts so bad :( -
Feeling like I should see my doctor.

TMI disclaimer: I can't stop the diarrhea and cramping. It occurs every time I drink or eat something. Is this normal? I'm scared of becoming dehydrated. I don't have a doctor in the states as I had my surgery in Mexico. Is anyone else experiencing/ experienced this problem? Sent from my Nexus 6 using the BariatricPal App -

does it make you go when you aren't "going"?....I dunno what my issue is (stop reading here if this is TMI), but I am not going and since I have been having green leafy veggies, figure I should be.... so, if yes, where do I get it. Laxative didn't work. -

Start with a (tmi) stool softener, I also had problems with the diet. So one in am and pm and all is good. -
Dr. Korn is very thorough and very professional.. he is much sought after which is why he is so busy but in my opinion he's more than worth the wait.. He wants you to be successful which is why he requires folks to weigh in 3 months in a row in his office without a gain... I lost 55 lbs prior to surgery by riding my bike and portion control as well as a low fat, low calorie, low carb., low sodium diet and his PA had me sign up for myfitnesspal.com ... a free website that tracks food intake as well as exercise and calculates for you where you will be in 5 weeks if every day were like today, a great incentive tool.. and as Dr. Korn will tell you, the stronger you are before surgery the quicker and easier the recovery... I've never had any pain from this surgery other than constipation due to the anethesia and Protein shakes following the surgery and for people like me who are proned to this problem I highly recommend a stool softener.. I know TMI but you need to know what works and this is what works for me... Dr. Korn had me up walking the day of surgery and the day after surgery I did a total of 25 laps around the floor throughout the day.... Dr. Korn is also the head of the dept. of barriatric surgery in the area as well as a trauma surgeon.. I hope you do well on "your" weight loss journey and God Bless. Jon Oliphant.. Caldwell, Idaho

Ok this might be a TMI question but how long was it before you had your first bowel movement? I was sleeved Monday the 25th and nothing much going on there except for passing gas. I have my follow up with my dr on April 4th. I wasn't really gonna worry too much about it till I go see my dr next week. Any thoughts? Thanx :-) Sent from my iPhone using VST

Am I Nuts To Consider Having My Band Removed??
RavenClaw779 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
At my highest I was 286, at surgery(3/2010) I was 252. My last fill was 11/ 2010. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1/ 2011 so no fill allowed while going through surgery & chemo(caught early, no spread, I'm fine). Weight went back up to 243 during treatment thanks to steriods, but took it off within three months of my last chemo treatment, which is when I started taking Arimidex(breast cancer preventative med). Arimidex plus menopause for most women means there's that last 10 pounds that won't budge. For me it seems like an endless weight circle of 217-223. Complicating and causing me more than a little concern is the, for lack of a better word, "rules" my seems to have imposed: *Can't eat before 10am; thankfully, coffee goes down okay. *Can't get Breakfast down(1/4c oatmeal, 1/4c egg sub, 2 slices turkey bacon or yogurt and fruit) in under 45 minutes. *Can't be wearing a bra or anything remotely fitted around my waist - food will not go down. *Can't sit down to eat - three bites and I'm backlogged. *Attempt to sit down to dinner - see above - then run to the bathroom, throw up food plus a nasty looking mucus ball(TMI-I know!) Then - surprise! I can eat..as long as I stand up to do it. *Hungry all the time - and it's not in my head - my stomach growls so loudly my co-workers crack up in meetings. *Obsessed w/chocolate - never was before. It's either because it will go down and gives me instant(temporary) energy or because if the serotonin release. *Vomitting can be triggered by something as small as the thin slice of a radish or a 1/4 tsp size piece of chicken and can go on for hours. *After throwing up, the area around my port seems to puff up. Despite having my haital hernia fixed a surgery, I feel like I have acid reflux. I dread going back to my WLS and hearing that I just didn't try hard enough. Yet when I list it all, it does seem like there's something more going on here and it's a bit ridiculous for me to continue to suffer. Anyone been in a similar situation? -
Okay...so today I am 9 days post-op. I was on liquids 48 hours before my surgery and I am still on liquids. I am not really getting in a whole lot in terms of calories...but I feel like I am sipping all day. I have been taking my vitamins....now comes the gross part. I have noticed two issues and wondered if anyone else has this as well. I have noticed a rash under my chest and tummy. I have been taking anti-fungal for this assuming its a yeast rash since I had antibiotics during surgery and I am sure with low calories my immune system may be suppressed....but it seems to go away in one spot and reappear. Anyone else with this issue? Also - probably the grossest TMI - remember I warned you...so you can stop reading at anytime. Well - since you are still reading I guess you will be okay with it. I just realized this AM that I haven't had a #2 since before my surgery...when I started the liquids. I took MOM this morning with nothing. Funny thing is I don't feel bad or bloated or constipated. I just don't feel anything...is this normal since I have been on liquids.... Geez that is like 11 days....that has to be strange.

I'm not sure about that rash. Maybe you should have a doc look at it just to make sure? Only thing I have going on is itchy incisions and sometimes my port sticks out after I drink or eat. Like a big bump right above my largest incision. I've been told this will go away after I heal. Now I've never had a problem "going" and haven't had much of a problem since my surgery. HOWEVER, I'm not sure you should be expecting solids out if there's no solids coming in. Just my 2 cents and I'm curious to hear the input from others. Again, I've never had this problem but I've heard many people do. Not something I'm looking forward to, but want to be prepared just in case. dhales, I don't think you should be worried about TMI on here. I have a feeling this group is all about getting real with ourselves and sharing everything as we go. j~

Odd Things In My Basket At Walmart

So today we made a run to the store. We left with: stool softener (TMI, I know), cat litter, Oreos (not for me), duct tape, Flintstones vitamins, and shaving cream. I told my husband that the cashier was definitely going to wonder what was going on at our house.
