I am about 5 years out from having my sleeve. I did not lose the weight that I would have thought I would lose. The doc even had me do a few tests to see if I had something going on in my esophagus and gut. Everything was good. I recently went to a new Bariatric surgeons office. Upon talking to them I am being told that I am one of those who bc of diabetes I am having hard time shedding the lbs. I should have gotten a bi pass. Because I am diabetic I am eligible to have a revision. Most likely a bipass. I am going thru the motions, being tested and have 6 months to make up my mind. Is there any one else out there who may be going thru this as well?

No Seminar - Vitamins - Ocean/Swim - 9 days post: HELP
JoyandLight replied to AlabamaSleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 2 weeks out when I started taking (choking down) a bariatric multivitamin (capsule pulled apart until a month) and calcium citrate (different then regular calcium carbonate) 500mg 3x per day. Space the multivitamin and calcium 2 hours apart. Your body can't absorb any more than 500 my at a time, nor with the iron in the multi. No pills bigger than an aspirin. Ask prescribing doc about any extended release pills---can they be halved? I went into so much detail bc for me the vitamins and pills were worst part of surgery. I take mine one at a time, pretty much an all day affair. My doc said no swimming for six weeks, not just bc of incision, but bc of the different pressure under water. Don't really know what that means, just passing it along. That doesn't mean you can enjoy the water up to your thighs! Good luck and enjoy recouping on an island! -
@berry78@newme17 To answer as best as I can... I have been eating about 70% plant based for a year or two, mostly due to turning 40 a few years ago & the ol' bod started getting goofy - LOL! I've never been able to digest red meat well anyway, so I don't miss it. 20 years ago I was put on Paxil to get through a divorce, and that was my undoing. I became a zombie. I gained 200 lbs in 2 years, mostly because I slept. I shut down. I'm not a binge eater, but anything I put in my mouth hung on in my zombie state. I've just been unable to get any sort of metabolism going since then. 20 years of 300+ lbs has taken its toll, but my BP & BS were always too low for insurance to cover surgery. In Jan this year, I just got fed up. I've been studying voraciously all these years to be prepared for the sleeve, and stumbled across Proteinaholic a while back. I've since been studying Dr. Campbell (The China Project), whose research echoes and reinforces it. The date of my first consult, this go round, was May 24th. I came home and put myself on the VGS post-op diet then and there, only with WFPB veg. I stayed under 1000 calories as well. So, from May 24th to my surgery on Aug 7, I effectively lost all the visceral fat on my organs. My surgeon was amazed, as someone weighing 300 lbs ALWAYS has visceral fat. I attribute the loss to the caloric reduction and the WFPB fuel. Does that help? Yes, there were some really tough days, but those were mostly during the liquid days. It. Was. Hard. Work. But I am proof the diligence pays off. And I feel better every day! catt

Gym or no gym, that is the question
MTL replied to AZBlackhawk's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My fiancée just bought us a barely used BowFlex! I had been thinking of joining a gym, but with my walking, our home gym equipment including Pilates Reformer & Yoga, teaching H20 aerobics M-F, the addition of the BowFlex is perfect! I have my big 3 mos weigh-in next week & I feel pretty proud of what I've been able to accomplish w exercise & weightloss. I found a therapist who was recommended by my surgeon's office & am looking forward to this appointment. The hardest thing for me is that I'm both a recovering overachiever & perfectionist: so I need the daily/hourly positive reinforcement of self-talk & affirmations from prayers/meditations I take time to do 2x's daily. Being a gifted psychic one might think I know God wants us all to love & cherish our bodies & not judge ourselves (or others) so we don't break down due to illnesses caused from being overweight, not able to exercise, etc. ; however, translating that after having 23 surgeries since Jan. 2001, left me depressed, anxious, etc. because I judged myself on the before me who was a competing multisport athlete. I'm most proud of the facts that I don't rely upon all the diabetes, high cholesterol, high BP & acid reflux Rx's post-op. I want to fly, but know I must walk first & that means making my health my priority just like many of you have/are also doing. It feels so awesome to have lost the equivalent of two turkeys & to exercise daily. I so appreciate all who've been posting here, bc I'm learning so much from you all. Thank you & God bless on your continued successes. -
Confused About Expected Weight Loss
KartMan replied to Cathy Mettille's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's BS, it's statistics. The 65% comes from the average weight loss of the entire population in the study. Some people work the tool, and some don't. If you put in the work, there is no reason to believe you can't lose 100% of your excess weight. I had LapBand in 2009 and lost all of my excess weight (about 110 lbs). I didn't actually start exercising till I was at about 80% from goal, and frankly not even a lot at that point. The most important factor was watching what I ate, because it is definitely possible to cheat. I kept the weight off for years too, it was only recently that my band failed that I started to gain weight. -
I start purées Monday and have all the stuff in my fridge for the ricotta bake. I'm counting down the seconds bc protein shakes are starting to make me depressed. I'm 2 weeks full liquid, 2 weeks puréed and then two weeks soft. Even if I can only handle a bite of puréed, I'll take it! I have some homemade bone broth and am thinking I'll just head to Whole Foods and grab a couple things in their premade case and purée with the bone broth. Maybe purée some of their soups. They have all the ingredients listed so I'll splurge and get a few of their things. Dreaming of not just living on protein shakes and protein waters! 5'7 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: ? Hang in there! If you've done everything they require, and I'm sure your md has made sure bc they won't submit until all papers and such are in order, you'll be fine. The insurance coordinator at my bariatric surgeon's office told me it could take up to a month. It's so tough waiting-I called the insurance coordinator too many times. I know she rolled her eyes every time my number popped up. We didn't schedule mine until I was approved. Worst case, you push your date out a week but I know how hard that'll be. Help!! Food demons and I'm barely 2 weeks post op!!
Allie589 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Last night I took my kids to a birthday party. The spread she had was insane-make your own sandwiches and tons of amazing salads and fruit, dips and veggies and then she has 10 pizzas delivered and the good kind too, no cardboard delivery, the uber delicious kind. I'll be two weeks on Monday, haven't even graduated to purees yet and the only reason I didn't take a bite of something is because I physically can't because of healing. I left the party. I couldn't take it. Am I hungry? Possibly bc I'm living on liquids. I went home, had my fat free Greek yogurt with monk fruit sweetener and was absolutely full, couldn't even finish the yogurt. I am freaking out bc what happens when I am all healed and can take a bite? Will I be satisfied if I have a piece of cheese and a couple veggies at a party like this? Omg-it was so bad last night and I am terrified I am going to fail. Any words of wisdom? I think I'm going to pursue hypnotherapy. 5'7 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: ? GW: 150 Fantasy GW: 135 Sleeved 8/7 -

One week post op-is this normal?
Allie589 replied to Allie589's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm having another rough day. Still on full liquids and still drinking all the same things but major stomach cramping and running to the bathroom. I haven't even had my vitamin yet bc I'm so sick of it making me nauseated so that didn't cause it. I'm mostly irritated that I'm trying so hard to get my water in and then this happens. At least I was home when it hit. Ugh. -
Stalls, stalls, stalls
Berry78 replied to bcl1628's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Even though we frequently hear people say that the weight will come off regardless of what you do, it's not really true. If you are consuming 2000+ calories, you won't experience much, if any loss. Most of us just can't consume that many. We don't need to do MUCH, but we do need to eat fewer calories. @Goggyween was essentially force-fed calories. Hopefully Goggy can weigh in here.. -
The Truth about Weight Loss Agents...
Sleeveguy replied to anonymousfact's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
This is total BS. I was at Weight loss agents, used Dr. Almonza and had the surgery. I've lost 130 lbs and counting 9 months after sleeve surgery. they were completely professional. State of the art technology and very careful to make sure my needs were met before they let me leave. The pre surgery and post follow-up was excellent and I highly recommend them. This testimonial is obviously fake made by a competitor. Shameful that some people have to try and get ahead by tearing someone else down. -
Second Guessing not doing RNY

I'm so with you on food as a drug of choice, or for me, a coping mechanism for everything from stress to boredom to a companion to watching TV. I'm one week post op and though I cannot eat bc of healing, my head hunger and desire to just munch is insane. I too need to do lots of work on that and am seeing a therapist and even considering hypnotherapy. In terms of the bypass vs sleeve, my surgeon told me that the bypass is being fazed out bc of long term health issues from the malabsorption and not a good choice for those of us wanting to get pregnant. I will say also that we have several family friends who have had the bypass over the years and some of them have gained a significant amount of weight back too. I think with either choice we are going to have to do our part in fighting our food demons. It's seriously the hardest thing I have had to face. I'm there with you! 5'7 HW 256 SW 248 CW ? Supporting a partner after the operation
MowryRocks replied to Hislassie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For me it was about being as normal as possible. I never had mood swings. One thing that you can do that was a huge help to me was just understanding that life is different in some ways. Sometimes in the beginning, we overthink, and over-complicate things...just be patient. If we were out and about, I would carry a cooler pack that had food and drink options for me in case we were in a position that we were out and I needed to push protein or felt hungry. (They told me I wouldn't feel hunger. I call BS on this, I have felt hunger since 2 weeks out.) Let your partner guide the recovery. Just being supportive may be all it amounts too. I never had a breakdown over food or anything. Just prepare yourself for the life that is going to be coming. In less than a year, I have changed from bump on a log status to go go go go go. It's a wild, amazing ride. Try to enjoy it together, -
Isopure Unflavored Protein
FluffyChix replied to biancan2ckyw's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Thanks girl! From this list, it doesn't look like any of the RTD drinks are gonna be any good from my perspective. The only one that would work is Skinny Girl and the reviews on it suck. The sodium is crazy high and it only has about 16g protein/11fl.oz.. I'm major bummed right now. All the others have soy (which I can't have cuz of hormone + BC), or are too high carb/sugar. Like maybe in mourning over it...le sigh. -
The good, bad and the ugly. CARBS!
FluffyChix replied to heycrystal2052's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
*newbie disclaimer* This is so true for me. I try to stay somewhere between 15-30g net carbs per day. I try to keep it loose so I don't get overly restrictive--and the daily carb count fluctuates greatly depending on appetite. The type of carb matters hugely to me. Most of my carbs come from low glycemic veggies and a tiny bit of dark berries (1oz servings), some nuts, some dairy, some eggs. I have to get that fiber from veggies and nuts/seeds in or suffer with constipation--no matter how much magnesium I shove down my gullet. I can eat 32g of net carbs from leafy greens, and low carb veg and still lose even though I'm a little over my target. But, if I took in 32g of net carbs from Triscuits, pasta, potatoes, winter squash, bread/toast, etc, I will be screamin' hungry and will have huge issues controlling my craving for more, more, MORE--plus, I will gain weight overnight--about 2-4lbs of fluid! (On fat, I generally want the best type possible including full fat dairy. But since I've been trying to fit a certain low calorie spectrum, I switched to some strategic reduced fat dairy...but I'm very particular about it. Fats for me include: some small amount of animal fat like grass fed butter, lard and tallow, but mostly extra virgin olive oil, avocado, nut oil for dressings, nuts and seeds and as my cals can go higher will include full fat dairy like small amounts of raw cheeses and sour cream/Greek yogurt. I don't eat a whole lot of dairy though cuz it is very insulinogenic and has more hormones than other protein/fat sources and with a hormone positive breast cancer history, that's not so good.) -
Smoked weed yesterday and my surgery is friday!
Changing4TheBetter replied to torriqurll's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well let me comment on how I feel! Cigarettes are different from weed along with alcohol. No place in anything that I have read you cant smoke weed. Unless you are her nurse or doctor STOP BEING HER JUDGE AND JURY! If you didnt have **** to say but bs then you need to keep **** to yourself. Things you missed in elementary school+ -
I had my teen girls. But I was pretty good afterward. I just had gas pain and to sore to bend over. I'd say buy yourself some bottled water just in case also bc since surgery I can taste the chemicals more in my tap water and drink mostly bottled water now. If you tell your nurse that you'll be home alone maybe they can call and check in on you each day for a few days.

we are all familiar with prepared meal delivery services like Blue Apron, Plated, Peached Dish, etc. but this one seems to take the cake in terms of optimally healthy, whole-food, paleo/keto food. it's called Factor 75. https://www.factor75.com/nutrition anyone try this yet? i know all of these services are pretty expensive, but for us bariatric patients with smaller eating capacities, i bet one meal could serve as two (lunch and dinner). the meals seem to be about 400-500 calories each and have the ideal macronutrient ratio. everything is grass-fed, local, organic. seems like the perfect solution for single (or married) folk who haven't the time to shop or the skill to cook.

THE BIG NO NO's of what never to eat or drink after the sleeve.
hmills653 replied to 2017Warrior's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to avoid it until I got my fluid goal bc it could dehydrate you. I haven't had coffee or any caffeine since before surgery which was may 31. I actually don't miss it. I thought I would but I have a ton of energy.
