  1. I was in the same boat. I had a 7 Lb window that I HAD to maintain - that was the hardest thing to do. I was lucky that Federal BC/BS only required 3 months of Nutrition and what not opposed to other company's 6 months. But we've made it! Trying to stay in my window, I really tried to watch what I ate, which I always try to do. Since I was approved, I was now told that I can relax - just don't go crazy. I another night of all you can eat crabs, a steak dinner with all the sides, another night at a Fondue restaurant, another visit to a winery, and then to a brewery. That's it - Not that I won't have these again, well not anytime soon , nor in this quantity. Just in case my taste buds change and don't like these things anymore, I want one last taste. Did you have to track what you were eating for a week to see how much protein you were eating? I could not believe how little I consuming! What an eye-opener! Someone had told me to freeze Protein drinks - Like Muscle Milk/ Premier Protein to have high protein popsicle snacks. I guess you could do that with Greek Yogurt too. I think tonight it will really hit me..... What is your Pre-Op Diet? Mine is something called Robard - it's 4 meal replacement "Things" a day. Shakes/drinks/soups/pudding.... and can drink Gatorade, low sodium broth as fillers

  6. 1 week since surgery. I SLEPT ON MY SIDE LASTNIGHT FOR 8 HOURS STRAIGHT! Can you imagine?!?!?!? Yes, it was that good! The gas pains in my left shoulder are almost unmanagable but who cares? I SLEPT ON MY SIDE LASTNIGHT!!!!! The liquid diet is getting easier to manage too. The protien minimum my dietician wants me hitting daily is 67g. I had not complied until yesterday and it was my first day back to work. Here's the food journal: 0700 - 1/2 c oatmeal protien smoothie w. soy milk and skim milk powder. 0800 - 1.2 c water 0900 - 1.2 c peppermint tea 1000 - 1400 EVERY HOUR - 1/2 c split pea soup w. soy milk and 2 Tbsp skim milk powder (in my coffee travel mug 1 c at a time) 1500 - 1/2 c water 1600 - 1//2 c veggie chili w. tomatoe juice 1645 - 1/2 c veggie chili w. tomatoe juice 1800 - 1/2 c greek yogurt w. 3 TBSP blueberry puree 1900 - 1/2 c peppermint tea 2000 - 1/2 c water 2100 - 1/2 c water 2200 - 1/2 c greek yogurt w. pear puree. HELLS YES! Not so bad huh? I didnt slosh at all. My eyeballs werent floating. Maybe because you wouldnt consider these things to be liquids.... Well, I dont really care what YOU (not really you) think! It worked for me! The first 6 days of post-op were spent forcing myself to eat these liquids that were full of protien but sickeningly sweet or actually kind of tasty without even 0.2 g of the magical stuff. I did discover GREEK YOGURT - with 14.7 g of protien per 1/2 delightfully sour cup and a little bit of fruit puree on top - ITS BETTER THAN ICECREAM!! Also, had an appointment with Dr. Love lastnight. Lol. It had been way too long! Perhaps the appointment is the only reason for my fantastic attitude? I dont care... whatever it is, Im holding on tight and ready to keep movin on! KEEP ON TRUCKIN!
  7. Almost everyone hits a stall at the third week. It doesn't matter what you eat (unless you are eating milkshakes and french fries or something awful and need to fix it). That said, my doctor prescribed a maximum of 60 g carbs and a minimum of 75 g protein while on purees. I also ate a lot of eggs, protein shakes, and refried beans. Other things I ate: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and various white meats pureed with different sauces, such as: sweet & spicy tuna (the kind that comes in a pouch) pureed with sriracha sauce hickory smoked tuna pureed with low cal bbq sauce lemon dill salmon pureed with olive oil mayo chicken pureed with marinara sauce, then heated up with melted mozzarella cheese turkey pureed with peanut satay sauce I was limited to 3 tablespoons of food per meal, 3 meals per day, no snacks (other than liquids/protein shakes). All of that said . . . the three week stall is completely normal and it doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong with your eating! I promise!

    Lemon Greek Yogurt with Raspberries

I have been trying different things with my greek yogurt and came up with this! My husband even loves it, and every time I make myself a bowl, he is always commenting on how good it smells...maybe I will share one day....maybe... plain greek yogurt a few drops of lemon stevia liquid (I use Lemon Twist liquid stevia by Now foods) raspberries a few slivered almonds or granola a packet of French Vanilla powdered Stevia (I use Now brand) Mix the lemon stevia into the yogurt and blend well. Throw in your almonds. Wash your raspberries, place on top and then sprinkle with the French Vanilla Stevia (I do this because raspberries can be tart...sweetens everything up!) So delicious. I have also tried with strawberries. Good too! Any berry would probably work.

What's on your "Do Not Eat" list?

Try adding or cooking your chicken in something with a creamy or fatty base with oil. You need the lubrication with chicken BC it can dries out even when its wet. Try cooking your chicken in the crock Pot with a can if cream Soup...it keeps it really moist. Make chicken salad with greek yogurt. Just an idea.

    Afraid To Eat :)

Yoplait Greek 100 calorie yogurt with less than 15 grams sugar is a good one. I like lime and cherry best...but the cherries are not to be eaten...I spit them out, or pick them out. I was told that you can have any Protein, really, as long as it is moist, and chewed down to nothing. I started with an egg cooked in a little butter--that's how I like it. Then, tuna fish with olive oil may. Tuna goes into my sleeve with no problems, and tastes good...but I still don't feel like eating. I have had chicken breast, and Healthy Ones smoked turkey breast, and a little bit of ham, too. Tonight, I'm going to try taco meat. As long as you chew it down to bits...as if it came from a blender, you'll be fine. Some people can have cream of wheat, I read, but I am not allowed that because it's a starch....I wouldn't recommend it, either, because it swells and can hurt your stomach. You need the protein.

    Afraid To Eat :)

You're welcome. And I also forgot the other great first week mushie food, Greek Yogurt! Its smooth, easy to swallow, and has a high protien count.
  14. hmm...i am probably not one of those that looks like I'm getting too few calories, but I do get in all my Protein. That's really my main focus for the most part. I remember thinking what you do. I would see some people's diaries on my phone and I wonder how they got the protein in. But then I look at the same people's diaries on the computer where you can see all the macronutrients, and I realize that many of them are getting in significant chunks of protein. One of my friends there puts in espresso coffee (you know who you are puresouthernsoul!) and it looks like nothing right? Cofffee?? But that's her recipe for something that has greek yogurt, coffee, and a scoop of Protein powder, so the label is a bit misleading. Wonder if some of that is happening with you? Do look at the diaries on the computer and you can see how the protein gms add up.
  15. I love savory foods with a lot of flavor. I based this recipe on the Ricotta Bake from previous threads. The cheddar and Greek yogurt were the key to making this very satisfying for me. 15 ounces light ricotta cheese 1 package frozen spinach, thawed and squeezed dry (would also be great with broccoli or cauliflower) 1 cup freshly grated/shredded parmesan cheese 1 large egg 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (use 2% if you like, for less fat) 3 tablespoons fat free Greek yogurt salt to taste Mix all together - except for 1/2 C of parmesan -- put in a baking dish. Then add another 1/2 C of parmesan cheese on top and bake @ 350 till golden - - about 30 minutes. or Mix all together and put in a container of your choice. When you want a melty, cheezy snack, spoon out about a tablespoon and microwave for 30 seconds. (If you are concerned about the raw egg in the recipe, baking is always the safe bet. Reheating is easy and equally melty and cheezy.) According to a recipe/nutrition calculator, each tablespoon contains about 6 grams of Protein. Fat will vary with the type of cheese you use. With regular cheddar, it has 5grams of fat and 81 calories.

You really need  heating pad :sleep:Liquid Tylenol :smile2:Ice chips :cool2:crystal light :wink2:lip balm :closedeyes:sf jello, yogurt, sf pudding :wink_smile:liquid protein :unsure:and that is about it for the first 3 days.
  18. Wow! My doc won't let me be on "full" liquids (yogurt, pudding, jello) until 2 weeks post op. I'm on only clear liquids for 9 more days and it's killing me! I don't drink much plain water but my doc says that any clear liquid is considered part of the 64 oz liquid requirement. Drinking liquids is mainly to keep from getting dehydrated but it also aids in flushing bad stuff from your system and aids in weightloss. For the first 2 weeks i'm only to take vit B12 sublingual and prilosec. After 2 weeks i'm to start on a multivitamin.

Surgery was last Monday on September 9.

It is amazing all the different diets the surgeons' but us on. My surgery was 9/11 and I was allowed to do cottage cheese, yogurt, refried beans, sf pudding on day four and today I am to start with soft boiled eggs or poached eggs. Food does look good, but I'm not hungry and trying to even get the above in is almost impossible for me. Just trying to get in all the fluids first. Agree the protein drinks are getting rather old. But we can look forward to eating somewhat normal down the road, just not as much.
  20. Hello BandLand!!! First I wanna say I hope everyone is doing great and I am glad we have this forum because everyone has the opportunity to inspire someone else throughout there journey. I am getting a lil discouraged though... Today makes 1month post-op for me and I am only down 20lbs... For the 2wks the scale is just not moving. I am staying around 1000-1400 calories but on most days I am at 1200cals. I am starting to feel very hungry again. I will be getting my first fill this Friday the 18th. Currently i have no Fluid in my 14cc band. I just wanna know how has everyone's journey been? Any regrets? Anyone doing any vigorous exercise right away? Also for those out there who understand carbs... I need help!!! On a daily basis, I am trying to stay at 1200cals, 60-80g Protein, & under 100g carbs... I just dont understand how people say they stay under 30g of carbs when there are carbs in just about everything we eat including high protein foods also. If I eat yogurt for Breakfast, thats 20g carbs just from my a.m. snack... Can someone please explain carbs to me? I have been avoiding Pasta & rice and minimal bread but I do have a bagel thin or english muffin once or twice a week. Any help or advice would be great!!! Thanks Everyone... Below are some additional questions. Any help is appreciated!!! Thanks... HDC 1. (Women only question) What do you do for cravings and appetite when it's that time of the month? Does your weight fluctuate during this time as well? 2. Because there are carbs in almost everything we eat, how do you determine what is a good amount of carbs per day? My fitnesspal says 249g is a go number. 3. What kind of exercise do you all do and how much and for how long? 4. Any ideas on things I can do as a truck-driver that works nights? I will be going back to work in a couple weeks and snacking is how I use to make it on the road. I need ideas or even some healthy snack choices to get me through my nights at work driving down that lonely highway. 5. Are sunflower seeds bad? 6. So far I have been eating 1200 calories of less per day, along with 80g of protein and trying to keep my carbs under 100g. Is this ok??? I'm really unsure… Just still so confused and need some words of wisdom on certain things. Bandsters please share any advise or tips to help me through my journey. I appreciate all comments and I accept all the supportand encouragement I can get. Thanks a lot lbt…

    First Blog Post!

Well, it has been 24 days since I had LAP-BAND surgery, and I am doing great so far! I am down 30 pounds and I just had my first fill yesterday. I can definitely feel a difference already with the fill. I have been on shakes and yogurts all day and tomorrow can go back on mushies, but have been pretty full since the fill. Before the fill I was HUNGRY and definitely not satisfied with only 4 ounces. Hopefully when I start eating again I will continue to feel restriction and continue to lose weight! I am so excited to be on this journey. I only hope that I am strong enough to see it through. I have tried so many diets and programs in the past that it is difficult for me to really see the future on this one. Although, I must say that I am motivated and cannot wait to see where 2010 will put me weight wise!

    Your favorite banded breakfast.....

Protein bars. Flaxmeal pancakes. Strawberry & low-carb vanilla yogurt parfait.
  23. If I have the time, I cook a sausage patty, scramble an egg, stack it, and melt a slice of cheese over the top, and split it---more of a 2/3 & 1/3 split, giving my 2 yr old granddaughter the bigger half! If I don't do that I will have part of a container of yogurt with granola. Or some cereal, with milk. I have also been known to eat leftovers for breakfast. My favorite used to be spaghetti---now I must eat a small amount at dinner, and for breakfast, just can't do it!!! I will eat a left over piece of steak, or a burger or something like that though. I too find myself thinking less about food through the day, if I start it out by eating. Kat

    First meal....

I've been a struggling sleever since my surgery date of June 16th. I've been admitted to the hospital 4 times for dehydration and most recently low potassium. Well..all I've been able to tolerate is water and muscle milk. Tonight I decided to try 1 oz of Fage yogurt (plain sweetened with a touch of splenda). I've been working on this for an hour and I doubt I've gotten in a solid teaspoon. Every bite is grumble grumble burp then I try again. I'm using a baby spoon and barely licking some off the end of the spoon. Was eating this slow for anyone else? I feel so far behind because of my complications and I don't want to rush anything, but I feel like I need to try to move forward. Thanks for you advice Leanne
