What Does Full Feel Like?
Katie713 replied to Slenderella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, I start to get uncomfortable, a feeling of tightness, and from experience if I eat beyond that it just wont go down, its sort of in the esophagus and if you burp (sorry if this is TMI) it is a wet burp so its clear your food has exceeded what can fit in your sleeve, I can at times walk it off but sometimes I just have to throw up so I can feel better. Vomiting with the sleeve is sort of different from before surgery, if you are taking a PPI there is no real stomach acid, and since there is so little in there there is no real force behind it, your chewed food just exits like it went down. A rule of thumb is not to consume over 4 oz in the early months, then slowly increase and see what you can tolerate. When I am full I have a few hiccups, some people get a runny nose...not sure why but with so much stomach tissue removed our sensors probably need time to adjust with messages back and forth to and from the brain. Hope this helps explain it from my perspective. -

Does the week leading up to your period f*ck with you, too? I put away the scale until after it is done, I cant even deal with it. I think i am retaining all the fluids I am drinking. I am just frusterated. On a good note, I did get to sleep on my side last night with a pillow for support and I slept MUCH better.

Do You Have A Name For The Process?
Bandista replied to HotButterFly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No, no, TMI TMF! Lol. -
I am watching a repeat of the Doctors. They have a woman who weight lifts with her vagina. If you go to the Doctor's web site you can watch the video. TMI for me. How gross is that? Just thought I would share today's grossness with everyone.

Dr. Korn is very thorough and very professional.. he is much sought after which is why he is so busy but in my opinion he's more than worth the wait.. He wants you to be successful which is why he requires folks to weigh in 3 months in a row in his office without a gain... I lost 55 lbs prior to surgery by riding my bike and portion control as well as a low fat, low calorie, low carb., low sodium diet and his PA had me sign up for myfitnesspal.com ... a free website that tracks food intake as well as exercise and calculates for you where you will be in 5 weeks if every day were like today, a great incentive tool.. and as Dr. Korn will tell you, the stronger you are before surgery the quicker and easier the recovery... I've never had any pain from this surgery other than constipation due to the anethesia and Protein shakes following the surgery and for people like me who are proned to this problem I highly recommend a stool softener.. I know TMI but you need to know what works and this is what works for me... Dr. Korn had me up walking the day of surgery and the day after surgery I did a total of 25 laps around the floor throughout the day.... Dr. Korn is also the head of the dept. of barriatric surgery in the area as well as a trauma surgeon.. I hope you do well on "your" weight loss journey and God Bless. Jon Oliphant.. Caldwell, Idaho

I'm also on day 3! I'm doing a liquid/low cal combo diet for this first week, and then it's strictly Protein shakes next week. So far its been really easy because I spend all day sipping my shakes and looking forward to my chicken breast & veggies at night. I expect next week to be much harder. What're ya'll drinkin? I've tried a few powders but so far they all seem to leave me with a gurgling upset stomach and (TMI) diarrhea. Anyone else having this problem? I'm thinking maybe it's because I've been mixing my powders with soy milk to cut calories and my body's having a weird reaction. Not a fan! I have lost 4 lbs. already though so I'm definitely a fan of that

Hi all, I got home today. I arrived at the hospital at around 6:10 and waited for them to call me back. At 6:45, they called me back into the preparation area. I was weighed, asked a few questions, had the IV started and the anesthesiologist came in around 7 to talk to me. He was a really nice guy. Around 7:15 my surgeon came in to talk to me a little and told me he would send for me in about an hour. It was a little less than an hour and I was on my way. Oddly, through the whole process, I wasn't really nervous...until.....I got into the OR. I was wide awake. They inflated my air mattress to transfer me to the operating table. They were all bustling about here and there getting things ready. Putting on monitors, etc. Then my anesthesiologist said he was putting something in my IV, which I never felt take effect. Then he put a mask on my face and said to breath normally and I would be going into dreamland. I remember waking up being asked if I was in pain and to rate it. I think I said an 8 and my left collar bone was hurting soooooo bad. I could feel the incisions on my abdomen being a little painful. No nausea though. Thankfully!! I was in recovery about 45 minutes and then taken back to my room. All in all it wasn't a bad experience. I am having feelings of needing to burp and feeling a bit of pressure around my diaphragm, but have not needed any pain meds. I did use some of the morphine that was hooked up for a while. So far, though, my tummy is sore, but not real pain. It has never felt so good to pass gas though. Sorry (TMI) lol. Just wish I could burp!! I am just so excited to get all of this going and get healed. :smile2:) I hope the rest of my fellows 7-7 bandsters had and will continue to have a wonderful experience!! It is going to be a challenge though getting in 64 ounces of Water in a day. But trying hard to work on it. Hugs and can't wait to hear the rest of your stories!! Paulette

I took a couple of bites of scrambled egg today at around 8am and then waited about an hour to have some of my Protein drink to take my medicine with. I still haven't taken all of my medicine. Two pills and two sips later I felt like I was going to throw up. I have been like that for hours. Finally those sips of Protein Drink came up. About 30 minutes ago I took a tsp of Pepto Bismol and that came up. I can't drink anything. I got sick again and it looked like I drank the whole bottle of Pepto. I am feeling better but it still feels like something is stuck. I called the dr on call and it didn't seem to be a big deal to him but it sure is to me! Fiance is out looking for Papaya Extract for me. Oh God I hope this never happens again.

My List to Post at the Hospital
StacyS replied to jerri's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I havent even thought of making a wish list! This is a great idea!! 1. Be able to wear a bathing suit w/out being embarrassed 2. Have my daughters look at me in admiration, thinking "wow, I want to be like Momma" 3. Be able to shave my nay-nay again (sorry-TMI) 4. Wear my nice work suits again that are hanging in my closet collecting dust 5. Be able to join a fast pitch softball league and actually play 6. Paint my toes, tie my shoes, walk up the stairs w/out panting 7. Actually look forward to taking walks with my girls and the dog 8. And most of all, have lots of energy to play with my girls and husband w/out having to take breaks! OMG, I can go on and on!! But I think these will be ok for now. My 2 of 3 month supervised diet w/surgeon's office is next week... then I'm a month away from submitting for approval and then FREEDOM! I simply can't wait!! -
How do you know if its dumping or a virus?
Skinny in Here posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
WARNING TMI Haven't been able to eat anything for 3 days without "dumping" what seems like gallons!! Going to try only Gatorade and toast today. Trying hard to stay hydrated. -
Ps. Maybe tmi but I also get the feeling like I really have to poop. Really bad but of course I'm just out so its hard to go. Could that be related?

Helloah! Just wanted to pick your brains... A little background on me - for those of you who don't know - I am now over two years out and not at my surgeon's goal yet... I ma just 9lbs off. I have been this weight since October and I am starting to think that 'this is me'... I will continue the Quest of weight loss, but part of me has started to accept that this might not happen now. I've gone from a UK 22-24 to a UK 14, with a total of 75lbs gone. Most of the fat that is left on me is around my middle!! My legs are ok... I have got a lot of muscle there, ss I am not too worried about the bit of thigh fat that is left - I am too old for mini skirts now...lol So, my thoughts are now turning to finishing this job and getting rid of the excess, saggy and wobbly skin that is really bothering me. I have just returned from a beach holiday, and having to wear a swimming costume, I now realise that the skin is more of a problem than my weight... it really does effect me both physically and mentally. I want it gone... my hubby agrees... and we will have to pay for it. My sleeve surgeon does a TT at a good price so he will be my first port of call. Also the boys are in pretty poor condition now... pretty much skin - no shape left - sorry for TMI! Again, this is really effecting me mentally and I would also like this sorted... I don't want to go big... just round...lol! Now, the actual operations don't bother me at all... what worries me is the time in recovery. So, for all those that have had either one or the other, or both can you please answer: How long were you in hospital? How long was recovery? How long did you have off work? Are you happy with the results? Also, is it possible to have the two operations done at the same time? If so, how much extra recovery time is needed... or is this too much at one time. I am a teacher, and my school's sickness policy is very strict. I would tell them about the TT; and stress that is it for medical reasons, not vanity (ok, so that is partially a lie, but you gotta do what you gotta do) - however, I wouldn't tell them about the uplift!!! I would be very grateful for any replies, comments or advice that you have for me; the good, the bad and the ugly! Thanks in advance =]

I haven't had major problems, but since I've gained the weight (I wasn't always heavy) I have lots of aches and pains. I've had plantar fasciitis since I hit 180; I think it's in "remission" right now after about 10 months of treatment, but I'm pretty sure if I go out for a long walk it will flare up, so I'm giving it more time. My knees and ankles hurt quite often. And I have pulled a muscle in my side from twisting around on the toilet around my ginormous hips and butt to take care of my business. TMI, but sad and true. I'm very hopeful that there will be fewer foot and toilet injuries in my future after I am banded!

My period last month after surgery seemed normal. But this month, second month out I have been spotting for a week now and it has yet to kick in and its getting really really annoying..... I am guessing its due to weight loss and my body adjusting to things but was wondering if anyone else had similar issues? Thanks and sorry for the TMI was not sure where else to ask....

Wondering When My Weight Loss Will Kick In.
suzcomptime replied to sentos's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You think 11 lbs in 2-1/2 weeks is not losing? I think that is great. Hang in there and don't be in a rush to drop the weight instantly. It's not realistic and it will just get you discouraged. I know it is hard to be patient, I can relate to that.....my surgery isn't until 5/21 and it seems like my life is on hold. I know that it will be a few months before a dramatic change. My hope is that I can lose 17 lbs in 1 month and than I figure it will be more like 7-8 p/month after that but at that rate I should be close to goal by Christmas, way better than any other diet I have been on. Hang on and see how you feel 3 months out. For the constipation you should check with your Dr. I don't think they want you to have severe constipation and straining (sorry tmi). It seems like my nutritionist said if that was to happen, I should use baby food prunes but you better check with your Dr. or nutritionist to be sure. I know they can give you something to help. -
Soo yesterday evening dinner was a Healthy Choice meal. It had beef tips and veggies and red potato wedges in it (with the skin on). So the potato skins got stuck and I started to PB (which has happened a couple of times before, just the PB not with potato skins). This time however it was a full out puke not just the normal the usual PB with normal slime. Has anyone had this happen before?? or should I be concerned. I felt fine later and didn't have any symptoms of a stomach flu. Obviously I need to make sure that my potatoes are sans skins in the future. Any thoughts?? Thanks!

Heh! Yeah, well I was feeling a tad pessimistic about ever getting any restriction when I made the graphic! :heh: I wanted to see how many would fit. And it didn’t look nearly as busy all alone as it does in the complete signature! But it was late & I just haven’t gotten around to reworking the graphic part. :becky: (I know what I’ll be doing in a few minutes, eh?! ) Why post fills at all..? Well, to use an analogy...all kids are different, but parents still tend to compare ‘milestones’ (how big was Jane at 18-mo vs. how big John is at 18-mo; when did Billy cut his 1ST tooth…). It’s the same sort of thing, I guess. :guess Apples & oranges because we’re all going to react differently to this whole thing, but it’s A) comforting to see that your not the only one who’s hasn’t got “sweet spot” restriction with 8.5 cc in a 10cc band, or reassuring that you’ve got restriction already with only 1.5 cc in a 4cc band. That’s what these boards are great for – sharing information & knowing we’re not alone on this journey. Plus, the detailed sigs let ya glean info without asking questions that seem intrusive or unimportant in the bigger picture. I’ve had all sorts of PMs about self-paying, which was something I hesitated to put in my sig at all. I like to think it’s actually been useful rather than TMI. But I’ll certainly concede that info’s only helpful if you’re looking for it! And I agree that scrolling through empty space in sig that goes on & on does seem pointless. I'm also not above turning off my sig in a volley of opinion (such as this) -- how many times does it need to be seen? To each his own! Suzanne

Something very strange is happening to me
Angelica posted a blog entry in Breathe. Angelica's Journal
Okay, so this morning, I woke up, and (I know, TMI) I am in the middle of a raging peroid. Normally, during my monthly, I'll eat just about anything I can cram into my face, but this morning, I woke up and thought, God, a nice salad with some chicken would be delicious right now. What in the hell. I have read things in the past that note that your body craves what you put into it. Am I getting there? Am I finally at the point that I am starting to LOVE the foods that I am eating? This is totally awesome. I started thinking about oranges, and how delicious they are, and about grapefruit, and avacados, and all the stuff that is GOOD for you. I was so excited. On another note, this pissed me off. I got into a semi arguement with a full blow retard who happened to think that I was attacking her, which I wasnt. Maybe my words were a little harsh, but grow the fuck up, your sn is GEEZER SUE. I am posting my response to her here, because I didnt want a full on flame in the forums, because thats sort of stupid. Shes in italics, I'm not. I read your blog. What else do you have to do? And, since you are so capable of changing your life and overdoing on exercising...why the hell have ANY surgery? Overdoing it? You mean, working out an hour a day, ONE HOUR, outside of the other TWENTY THREE that are available is overdoing it? You mean the rush I get after exercising, the way it makes my mood better all day long, thats a BAD thing? You live on YOUR side of 200 pounds and YOUR side of band experience and YOUR side of 30 years old...and somehow think you know more than I do. Maybe, someday, you'll know half as much. I never ever ever mentioned ONCE that I knew more than anyone else, but obviously, I THINK more than you do. Yes, I am over 200 pounds, YES, I am younger than 30. Great, fantastic. I'm going to hit my goal and have a LONG LIFE enjoying MY ACOMPLISHMENT. I had surgery in October with the UNDERSTANDING that it would be a process to lose this weight, and it wasnt a magical overnight pill. And I don't have charcoal panties...I have VS undies on right now. Maybe someday you''ll be there, too. Oh Sue, I doubt that you dont have to wear charcoal underwear, I doubt that you dont need spring drops in the toilet after you drop a bomb. What I did want to say is that not only will I be able to wear VS underwear soon, but men will actually WANT TO LOOK AT ME IN THEM. If you want to use age as a catalyst, then lets use age. If you want to be rude and mean, then lets be rude and mean, my GRANDMOTHER is your age. Sue Sue, you get the big tugboat for BOOORRRINNNGGG. In either case, my food intake is good, protein is strong. I am drinking a helluva lot of water. I am using the turbo jam workout tapes, still havent made it to the point where I dont feel self concious at the gym, but its coming, I can feel it. Down 2 pant sizes. I am excited to be alive today =) -A -

Struggling not to drink with food
Pretty_In_Purple replied to jennynoblemiller's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
(TMI ALERT) I accidentally drank with a meal when I started on solid foods and it made me have diarhea about 10 minutes later. Not pleasant. -
1) It's a Friday. It's the 13th. Friday-the-13th's tend to lucky days for me. I have won three contests in my life - and they've all been on Friday-the-13th's. 2) FIVE more months? REALLY? Ok. Four months and three weeks. But I want to start NOW - not play games...but here I am. I guess four months and three weeks IS better than five months IS better than six months.... 3) How to eat post-band. How will it be different than now. I struggle to get my protein now, although becoming aware of this battle has helped. In the past two days I have been getting enough. I have approached Atkins in the past as eat whatever I want - protein like. But you can't sustain that for very long without causing other problems for your body, I believe. But what if I'm incredibly selective about the proteins I select? Instead of bacon, I pick salmon. Instead of cheese cubes, I eat broccoli dipped in hummus. Can my body sustain THOSE choices longer? I wonder. When I get banded, I am supposed to follow a high protein diet. Eat protein and then if you still can eat, then eat the veggies and then if you still can eat, then eat the carbs. Well. Out of seven days, I am supposed to avoid the carbs for six. On the seventh day, I can eat those carbs. It's my "cheat" day. If I pick a Sunday, though, to be my cheat day, then my cheat day should always fall on a Sunday. So hey, everyone, get your birthdays scheduled accordingly! Sorry, just a little blithe sarcasm, there. Anywho, say it takes me a year to lose my weight. For a whole year - I have not really eaten "normally". When I get into maintenance mode, then the band would presumably be loosened a smidge. Which should mean my caloric intake might be sufficient for actually getting to eat the carbs. Wouldn't that cause my body to say "here we go again, better start hoarding?" Now, Band_Groupie pointed out to me this morning that with restriction, by default, you essentially are doing an Atkins diet. You just quite simply can't eat enough food to get ALL the necessary protein AND ingest the carbs. Fair point. But as my weight decreases my necessary intake of protein will, too. This has me wondering and I will do more research. In esseance all of this came from - you guessed it - Band_Groupie's blog! It really got me to thinking when she was blogging about not wanting to diet. She’s been there done that – and this is a lifestyle change. I agree with that whole-heartedly. And that got me to thinking – so how is doing the Atkins AGAIN, even though with a band this time, not a diet? But. But But But But But. I can see why people would get into smoothies and shakes because although they are sliders – they also would be a way that you might actually be able to ingest the daily recommended protein and carbs (and all that other stuff that goes with them). I, like BG, do not want to be a smoothie/shake chick, either. With one exception. As is, right now, unbanded – and it’s been this way for years – I do drink smoothies in the morning. I will not stop that post-band. Lots of thoughts in this one little thought. Lots of research to do, too! Next… 4) I’m such a whiner. I don’t generally consider myself a whiner – but it sure is coming across that way when I reread my blog. I am sorry for that. With the insurance situation under check, I should be getting back to my non-whiny self. Sorry for the detour… 5) I am so glad I am done with all the Dr. appt’s. I have an appt with my cardiologist this afternoon. He had me do a stress test a couple weeks ago and stated I was cleared for surgery. Today is the formality of getting the written clearance that I can turn in. With this appt done, I literally only have the weigh in appt’s left. Two of those down – four to go… 6) Four appt’s to go sounds better than five months to go. I think I’ll switch to that song and dance…33% done. 7) I want to remember what it feels like to be bloated but thin. It’s bad enough that I have to be bloated on a monthly basis, but to be bloated and fat – well…that’s just downright uncomfortable!!!! I don’t remember ever feeling this uncomfortability (like my word?) before my heavy days. And even with the heavy days – it’s still pretty recent that it’s become so dagged uncomfortable. Now there’s a strange milestone for myself… 8) Maybe my cramps will get better, too! (TMI?) 9) Does anyone else see anything wrong with failing the unweightloss program on purpose? Does our insurance industry not get what they are causing here? Added expense, wasted time, a whole plethora of negatives by creating this game. My very own insurance company cites study after study in their very own weightloss surgery policy document. One such study states that a sample group of about ~300 patients was put together. ~50 of those patients were forced to do what I have termed the “unweightloss” program. ~250 were just given the surgery. (All cases used the Lap-Band.) The ~50 who were on the “unweightloss” program did it for real and were losing weight. Of those ~50 people, ~60% decided to not do the surgery. A year later all ~300 people were examined. The ~250 people who had the band surgery had ALL lost a minimum of ~50% of the weight they wanted to shed. Of the people who were on the weightloss program that did have the surgery, they had ALL lost weight, although not as much as those that just went straight to surgery since at the recheck they’d only been banded for six months vs. a year. But the people who thought the diet was going well and opted out of the surgery – they had ALL regained ALL of their weight back plus more, in most cases. So here we have it. Cigna has a document citing what their policies are. In this document they backup those policies with study after study after study. And in this particular study it shows that the unweightloss program hinders weightloss! There are quite a few other studies cited in that document that show similar results. Quite a few show that the efficacy of the lap-band is substantially greater long term than any other weight loss surgery option. And yet there they are, playing games. Oh well. On with life. Only four more appts to go! I think I’ve blogged enough today. So with that, I bid you adieu. I will be back this weekend with additional thoughts I may or may not have.

This is definitely TMI but I am 4 days post op and have not pooped. I feel really stupid asking this question, but when do you poop again? Not during the clear liquid stage? I know it makes sense because I am not eating solids, but still...I need to know...thanks...I really am not as stupid as this post makes me sound! Lol
