Not losing too fast...Need a fill that is for sure. Mowed the front yard while Jack did the rest of the 2 acres. Looks really beautiful! Irises are starting to bloom. Love those! MIL is back home from California.

    Frustrated

Guess I would have made a very bad bariatric program patient! I don't own a scale, I have no idea how many calories I consume and I certainly don't remember what I ate last week. ????. Not to mention the words I would have used if anyone told me I wasn't losing fast enough.

    Frustrated

Wow.....It is so sad to see posts like this, I feel bad for you guys. There is no excuse for you leaving your docs office and feeling this way. My surgeon is nice enough, but straight to the point. My husband keeps reminding me surgeons cut, that is their job. I am a type of patient that likes to be coddled. (yes I am a big baby LOL) So I love the job my surgeon did on me, but he is not the coddling type. Now Debbie the P.A. in the office who I will be seeing from now on I LOVE! I have had to call a few times with questions and I never feel rushed or brushed off. I saw my surgeon at my 2 1/2 week check up everything went fine he was happy with my progress but wanted to keep me on two shakes a day and one small meal. So that is what I have been doing. He didn't want me tracking calories (but I do) but did want me tracking Protein, Water and my sugars. He did write up a plan for me for where should be, but I am trying to look at that as goals and not written in stone. I was at 270.7 this morning and my "goal" to be at for my Dec 30th appt is 260. I am pretty sure I will get close (I have been losing pretty steadily) but if I don't I am overly THRILLED my progress so far!!! Hang in there everyone. I know we are all doing the best we can and losing is losing no matter how much or how fast!!!

    I ate way to fast!

i are too fast the other night and horrible feeling.i also experienced sliming for the first time,,not nice
  6. Thanks to you all. I'm probably eating too fast. I haven't thought I was, but I've always been a fast eater and I think that's most likely the culprit. Oddly, I don't want to be 'bothered' w/ eating, so I eat quickly so I'll be free to do something else. I know, it's hard to believe someone overweight doesn't want to be bothered w/ eating, but there you have it!
  7. No, this is not normal at all. At this point you should be enjoying going off liquids and trying mushies. I would try cutting out the dairy for a day to see if you have developed lactose intolerance. LI is notorious for causing gas, cramping and diarrhea. Don't drink ice cold water, and don't drink it fast, that causes diarrhea for me. Drink cool water and sip sip sip all day. If neither of these pertain to you perhaps someone else has some other ideas. But if your condition lasts more than a couple of days without slowing down, I think you should call your doctor.
  8. I feel great during the day! Just night time before bed I get horrible stomach pains.. I'm not sure if I'm just eating too fast or what but it's like clockwork! One week out and just over 18 pounds down!! Seems crazy to look at the scale and see numbers I haven't seen in ages!!! So glad we are all in this together! I've had a few bm's never a big amount and always very dark. I pee all the time tho!! Lol
  9. My last appointment is tuesday the six month program went by pretty fast Im starting to get a little nervous any tips for the liquid diet?

    Ready to quit.....

B-52 has a very good point. "Because of the band, I had to become a different person". I mirror that statement. Look at your eating habits? Are you still trying to eat the same foods at the same pace? I had to make a 180° shift in what I ate, how fast I ate and how much I chewed. I still have small stuck episode with minor PBing but I won't let that deter me. I find that being filled too tight just won't work with my lifestyle so I'm about .25-.5 CCs from being too tight. I have to look real hard for satiety signals and then act on them. I find that as long as I eat healthy foods, natural foods, unprocessed foods, in the right combination I can lose or maintain my weight. I'd suggest you have .25-.5 taken out and eat healthy nutritious food. Look for the satiety signals, the soft stops and obey them. Unfortunately, some banders never feel those stops. I hope you're not one of them. This band/tool takes a lot more cerebral involvement than we were led to believe. Hang in there and look for the right band adjustment that can help you succeed? tmf

    I got that call

Congratulations! I'm hoping my process goes just as fast! We are on our way!
  14. I don't think they are necessarily related. In fact, sometimes when I feel I am at a perfect level of restriction, a pb episode takes me unawares. While pbing can be an indicator of too much restriction, it is often merely an indicator of poor eating habits--too fast, too much, not enough chewing. In fact, when I am feeling I am at a perfect restriction level, I often pb because I am not thinking about being banded and how I have to eat regardless of my restriction level.
  15. I had my second fill a couple of weeks back, and went up to 4.5 cc. At 5 cc I couldn't swallow Water, so .5 was taken out, and everything was/is fine. A couple of times this past weekend and today I ate the "wrong" foods too fast, and PBd (not a pleasant experience!). Yesterday it was on a hard pretzel (the snack-size kind), but today it was a doozy -- a steamed veggie spring roll. I slimed and spit up for a good 10 minutes. So my question is: How does PBing correspond with restriction? If you have a PB episode, does it mean you are at your correct level of restriction, or does it have nothing to do with it? I personally feel that I am NOT at an ideal level of restriction, so my guess is that the two aren't necessarily related, although I could be wrong.
  16. I feel amazing today! I am 3 weeks postop today and am down 35 lbs. from my highest weight (287), 21 since surgery day (273). I had a stall of sorts for almost a week but the scale is moving again now (252). My incisions are completely healed and really feel like I never had surgery, except for the lack of hunger and the tiny amounts I can eat I am still on purees for another week and am doing great - everything has really gone down quite well, I just get full really fast. I am getting in liquids just fine and still struggling to get enough calories and Protein, but working on it every day. I've been hitting the gym since last week and doing just cardio for now - elliptical and treadmill. I am still able to wear most of the same clothes I started in (mostly size 20) but they are getting really baggy and feel way different and TODAY I put on a top (size 14/16!!) I bought quite a while back to "shrink into" and it fits! It is just a stretchy knit top and isn't super loose but with my shapewear (ha!) I feel comfortable and confident in it and that hasn't happened to me for AGES! I am by no means in a 14/16 in pants (I think I am solidly in an 18 now) but I will take what I can get, considering I am only a fraction of the way to my goal weight I think this is just one of many wonderful days to come and I just cannot say how happy I am that I took this huge step for myself and my family - I would recommend the sleeve to anyone contemplating WLS!

What is a PB? Tell me EVERYTHING!

I PB pretty often. It's when I either 1. eat too fast 2. don't chew a bite well enough 3. eat something that doesn't go with my band All my PBs vary on discomfort and severity. Sometimes if I'm eating too fast or not chewing enough, without even a burp, the food just comes right back up and I can see that I did not in fact chew enough. Less frequently something gets 'stuck', and I make a lot of slime, spit up a lot of slime, salivate a lot, and eventually I gag up whatever it was.. this normally happens with bread for me. I know better than to it, but I try every once in a while. At first it's ok, then it hurts, and slime/spit, then it comes up. Some people very rarely if ever have PB's.

    Juarez Mexico

The hospital is the reason I chose Juarez as well. Take your own pillow. They give you a little one. I would also take bandaids. They do not use little things that cost extra. They will just tell you to hold cotton on it. I will forwarn you the first day is not good. Their pain medicine was not strong enough for me but after the first day I was no longer in pain. The other girl with me said the same thing. By the secon day we were walking the halls together and sitting in the cafe visiting. Good luck hope you recover as well and fast as we have. I still talk to her and we are about the same place in our journey. Down 40 lbs in 2 months. I stalled after 1 week and lost nothing for 5-6 weeks. So don't freak out if you stall pretty quick but it will come off. I have no problems with fluids and never did. I was drinking gulps at the hospital and never gotten sick. I went and had blood work done at 6 weeks and everything was great. You will love Miguel he is one of the nurses. Once again good luck and will see you on the losers bench.
  19. I have heard that the Roux-N-Y Bypass surgery has been very successful in eliminating diabetes all together and even the scientists aren't sure why. I do question whether the other surgeries do the same other than just weight loss itself solves that problem. I have not been told I am diabetic, but insulin resistant prior to my surgery. I've noticed that my fasting blood sugars are lower since the surgery, but still higher than they should be. I think I just have not lost enough weight yet for it to be making a huge difference. But I'm definitely eating more carbs so I have faith that my sugars WILL get better.
  20. This is SUPER news...... I am excited for you.... Tricare is very fast at approving if you fall into the guidelines..... Took them less then a day for me! CONGRATS...and yes... I have that song stuck in my head now....LOL!!

    Bloated

Thanks for your response. I did get some prescribe Pepcid, but I haven't started taking any yet. I guess I need to, but I have been taking GasX. I went to the store today and bought Dulcolax, so I'm hoping it will help with the bloated feeling. I didn't think about powdered fiber, I will get some tomorrow. I had my first dumping, eating can salmon to fast, but since then I have had gas and been bloated. Don't understand why that happened cause I threw up but felt terrible since that evening. It was like everything didn't come out. I have learned my lesson, take your time.

Hardly Any Restriction = No Motivation

I have been there-very recently. I went through the same thing last week. I was banded shortly after you, on 12/31/10. I did great-up until last week. I had a lot of stress going on, and began coping with it as I always had-eating. I had no restriction, and was eating a lot at night. I didnt' have any willpower to stop, and kept eating even though I wasnt hungry. Granted, it wasnt the sheer volume of food I used to eat, but still it was constant grazing, which makes it difficult to get back to healthy eating habits. what i did to break the cycle was to get myself back to the gym FAST. I started going back to the gym after work, on my way home, so there wouldnt be excuses. having something to do kept me from coming home and snacking prior to dinner. This week, I have been back in the gym, coming home and preparing dinner and then after dinner, putting gum in my mouth and 'closing" the kitchen. Lights off, no reason to be in there. with these little tricks, I am back on track and ready to go again. I am not sure if this advice will help you, but I was really crying out for help last week. I understand the difficulty that you are having, and just remember, you had great willpower when you were on the pre op diet. You were working for either avoiding the open surgery(shrinking the liver with the pre op diet), or were just very motivated as the change in your life was just around the corner. Find something that drives you as it did then-whether it be exercise, a new pair of jeans, or take up a hobby that keeps you busy in the evening. Idle hands feed the mouth, it seems lol. I hope this helps, and hopefully at your appointment tomorrow they can give you either some tips or some idea on what is going on restriction wise, Keep us posted and good luck.
  23. I am currently in the same situation and I feel like my ship is sinking fast... I was banded December 7th 2009, and I have lost about 8 pounds since then! I am up to 9cc's in an 11'cc band and I can still eat bread, have never had anything get "stuck", never slimed or PB'd or anything that lets me know I am in band land. I can not eat quite as much as I used to pre-band, but I can eat ALL the same foods. I had taken up walking 3 miles a day 3-4 times a week and I did this for a month thining that would give me a "boost" and when I went to the doctor last month - again - NOTHING. I don't have any motivation and I am starting to regret putting my body through this for it not to work. I have ugly scars in my stomach from this operation and only 8 pounds to show for it. I didn't tell many of my friends or family about having surgery, but those that I told didn't think I "needed" it and now that I'm six months out and still look the same, all I am getting is "I told you so's"... I did my research and I thought I was making the best choice for me to FINALLY get a hold of my weight gain and after being initally denied by my insurance, when my appeal got approved I was rejoicing!! I thought this was it and all the years of battling my bulge would soon be behind me as me and my band tackled the never ending world of food... NOT so much. I am torn between going for my appointment next week and just saying "to hell with it" and not going back at all anymore. The doctor has already told me that I am the only patient he has ever had that has had this much fluid in their band and still not be fully restricted. ~sighs~

    How did it go?

    My surgery went well. No pain at all just intermittent nausea. I do have a JP drain in my lower left abdomen which will come out on Thursday. I was up last night walking every couple of hours- it felt good. No severe gas pains, bit when I drink water, I get gurgles inside. I keep patting my chest to help get the gurgles out. {)i(} Sent from my iPhone using VST {)i(}
  25. Hi everyone. I just joined the forum because I'm going out of my mind thinking about my upcoming surgery. I have been looking into weight loss surgery for the better part of eight years, with every issue life can throw at me popping up along the way. Then, all of a sudden, in the space of two or so months, every roadblock seems to fall away, and the team at the University of Chicago has offered me a date in less than two weeks for the DS procedure. I am such a combination of excited and scared, motivated and freaking out! It's hard to describe, but I know many of you have experienced the same thing. I am having weight loss surgery because I would like to avoid the many problems lurking around in my gene pool (diabetes, MS, blindness, etc.) and I would like to live a long and happy life. But I feel like I had convinced myself that it would never happen, and now that it is happening so fast, it's so thrilling and scary at the same time! I'd love it if any of you could share any stories you might have relating to your pre-surgery experience. I'd also appreciate any advice. I've got all my vitamins ordered (from Bariatric Advantage) and I've got all of my pre-op requirements done as well.
