    Almost there...

So I am a week away now and I think I am feeling okay. I have prepared myself for the worst. I have come up with almost all the worst conclusions possible and asked myself would it still be worth it. Since becoming addicted to this site, I have come to learn that the emotions and adjustments are somewhat standard. A very hard pre-op Day 1-3. I bounced back so well after my C-section in July. I mean the doctor had to tell me take it easy, because even my if my body was feeling great I just had a major surgery. So I am preparing myself to have a not so great recovery. Not trying to jinx myself, but preparing as a "just in case." The "What Did I Do To Myself" breakdown. It seems like almost everyone goes through this at some point. Whether its when you are sitting in the mirror during week 1 OR when you are really tested by not being able to eat your fav food. I am going to write a letter to post op self from my pre-op self that hopes to encourage me and answer that dreaded question. The liquid-oh-how-I-hate-liquids rant. Liquid diets suck. Yeah, I said it. No one want to them. It seems that almost everyone goes through this also. My post op diet requires liquids for 10-14 days post-op. I am hoping the first 5-7 days are a breeze because I won't need much to get full. But then I have to force myself to know that this liquid phrase is needed to help my body heal. The dreaded 3 week stall. It's funny. No matter how many times people on here talk about stalling at this point, so many are disheartened. Well I am preparing myself for it now. I am preparing for it to last anywhere from a week to a month. I know my body is going through a lot of changes (or will be). I know that this too will past. Learning to eat again and not drinking while eating. I am a fast eater. I have been trying to get this under control. I mean I don't intentionally eat fast, but I make no effort to slow down. My husband always says to slow down. So this past couple of weeks, I have been chewing and eating like sleever. I have been chewing and chewing and chewing. Not fun. I think its because I am still eating a normal plate size and it takes forever. I am also a gulper. I will have to really remind myself of the changes that I need to make to make my sleeve work. Then looking back 5 months post-op and not regretting a thing.
  2. Less than 2 weeks away and I am preparing myself for it all. A very hard pre-op Day 1-3, The "What Did I Do To Myself" breakdown, the liquid-oh-how-I-hate-liquids rant, The dreaded 3 week stall, learning to eat again, not drinking while eating, and then looking back 5 months post-op and not regretting a thing. Sleeve Day in T-10 days

  3. I know it is a normal thing to hit a stall, but geeeze.....come on.....Please let me start loosing again!!! For the last 12 days I have only lost 3 pounds I started off like a rocket, then BAM....nadda. I am eating my Protein (or drinking) and drinking my Water, I just dont know what else to do to get the scales moving again. How long does the 3 week stall last? And when the scales do start moving again, are they much slower than in the beginning? How many pounds should you loose a month? Thanks for listening to me grumble about something that Im sure everyone has grumbled about from time to time!

    3week Stall :(

My 3 week stall lasted 10 days. But during it I noticed changes in the appearance of my body. (Parts shrinking). This week I started off with a 3 pound weight loss, and another one today, so 4 pounds this week. Hang in there, you are doing great!! It will happen.... I'm a believer now. Lisa
  5. Hey, thanks for checking in! Things are going well! I am feeling pretty good, my healing seems to be going well, and I am getting back into the groove of work. On the downside, I seem to be in the dreaded 3 week stall :-( Oh wells...

  6. I think that I am defiantely at the dreaded 3 week stall. I only lost .2 today. Hopefully I can break it next week when I start hitting the gym. I am kinda bummed about it but knowes that this is part of the process....

  7. Only lost .6 today....wondering if I am at the dreaded 3 week stall?

    Stalls

Dawn: I think that you and I are on the EXACT same page (recall that we were sleeved a day apart). I had the 2-3 week stall, and then I'm going through another. Grrr. And this time, because I can get more types of food into my mouth, I'm starting to blame me for bad food choices. I feel you. It was so much fun to be back stateside and buy a bit of a new wardrobe, but this is discouraging. Hopefully it will break soon, being 40 lbs down isn't enough. (I still haven't gotten back to the gym though, so maybe it's time).
  9. I am right there with you! We are in what's known as the "DREADED 3 week stall." Just stay the course, we will adjust.

    STALL 3 WEEKS POST OP

Lizabug... you have done really well to date and your weight loss isn't slow... not at all!!! The dreaded 3week stall is a pain in the tail, but it is a way for you body to take some 'time out' and readjust... remember, you are still recovering from major surgery! Try not to get too stressed.... I know it is hard, but the scale will move again! I went through the 3 week stall and it passed! Good luck =]

    Beginning week 3

Hi Lisa, ^^^^^ I agree with the others^^^^^^ You are doing amazing, and the dreaded 3 weeks stall is just that.... dreaded! Most of us experience it and we all get over it! The scales will move again... good luck! =]

    Beginning week 3

You've hit the dreaded 3 week stall. Plus, you've dropped 34lbs in 3 weeks, and your body is thinking "WHAT H E **" is she doing to me. You're going to have to be patient, continue to get in your fluids, and Protein, follow the plan, and you will lose weight. We didn't get fat overnight, we aren't going to get skinny overnight. I know it's frustrating, but you've been losing almost 2lbs a day, and realistically that can not continue. Your body has to catch up, and adjust. The average weight loss is 10-20 the first couple of months, then 5-10lbs per month after that. Now, with a higher BMI, we typically lose faster, but your body is still trying to figure out what you are doing. You will lose your weight. Stick to the guidelines, stay the course, and stressing over it isn't going to make it worse. Hide your scale, drink your fluids, and let your body recover. Hang in there, you're doing amazing ! ! !

    Blarg up 3 lbs?

1000 calories is fine and yes exercising at least 3 times a week helps. I have been doing around 1000 calories but haven't been exercising (started again on friday) and lost 1 kilo, 2.2 pounds after a 3 week stall, which isn't very much but at least I haven't put on weight, had people visiting from South America so my eating hasn't been what it should've been I would recommend not to weigh very often, because fluctuations are so unpredictible, bloatness, water retention, lack of bowel movements, etc

    3 Weeks Post Op - Oct 7, 2010

Whew, I'm glad you wrote this. I know there have been several post on the dreaded 3 week stall so I didn't want to make another but I had the urge. I am just like you excpet I had a week of clears then a week of full liquids and now I'm on mushies. My surgery was on the 8th of October and I lost 20lbs in the first two weeks. I've been the same weight, actually gaining a lb, for the last week. I know I'm not getting enough fluids for one. I think my body is holding on to ALL the water I drink because I'm not drinking enough. So I think what we are going through is normal but I'll let some of the vets reassure us.

When you DO break a stall......

LOL!! Gayle, I do the exact same thing!! when i realized my weight moved i go to change my ticker immediately! its so funny how that happens but i guess im not the only one that does that!! ... i have just experienced my first "3 week stall" and Im not beating myslef up over it because i know that the body naturally has stalls during weight loss as to adjust to the changes that we are going through! when its over its really amazing and you start to celebrate!!!
  19. I have a 10cc band and I was at 7.75cc for several months. Weight loss was slow but steady...1- 1.5 lbs a week with a 2-3 week stall every few week. I had an adjustment on September 20. She added .30cc to bring me to 8.05. I was fine perfectly fine....great restriction....great everything. I got a cold, lost my voice for a couple days and had a weird cough. I had a metallic taste in my mouth and my DH was concerned that I had silent GERD. I went to the doc on Oct 11. I had lost 7 pounds in 3 weeks. She took out .20cc to be on the safe side leaving me with 7.85cc in my band. The cough is gone...but now I am STARVING and I have gained 2 pounds. It doesn't make sense to me-- I have more in my band then I did for the last 3 months. Can a small unfill make you feel like you you don't have a band at all? I mean I am STARVING....worse than any bandster hell I may have gone through. I still have a numbness on my tongue that comes and goes but I am not coughing, spitting up, and I can eat drink just fine. Is this something to worry about? Should I go back and get some put back in my band? Any tricks or advice you can offer?? Thanks!

    Monday Morning Weigh In

HW 385.5 SW: 366.5 (6/29/10) CW: 312.5 I've had one 3 week stall weeks 6, 7, and 8 and another 2-1/2 week stall month 3. Very frustrating given my weight. I thought I would lose more quickly, but I'm losing inches even when the pounds don't come off. That's encouraging.
  21. I have seen posts throughout this site about the 3rd week stall that everyone seems to get, but is there anything I can do to get past this ? Is this just a waiting game? What exactly should I do and how many more times will this happen? Please help everyone. Thanks.

    Grazing

This topic is so relevant to my situation right now. I mentioned previously that I stalled for 3 weeks 5, 6, 7 and broke it by adding in calories and Protein through scheduled Snacks because I wasn't meeting the 600 cals and 60 protein gms minimum. Followed advice of more experienced folks on forum and I dropped 15.5 pounds in about 1-1/2 weeks. Then had post op meeting with PA and she said dont' snack. Only 3 meals a day. Well, tried that. Finally figured out how to meet protein minimum with 3 meals and still went into another almost 3 week stall, then just lost 9 pounds in 10 days when I went against orders and added in protein snack or two if necessary. Another postop yesterday. Talked to PA about my worry about not getting enough nutrition with 450-550 cals a day. I'm eating mostly lean protein to get those 60 grams of protein in through 3 meals and no snacks. So she got back to me today with doctor's message: no protein snacking, 3 meals a day, get in Proteins, don't go over carb limit (60 carbs -- I rarely get to 30) or fat limit (30- stay under that too). Dr. said don't worry about calories; just get in protein and Water (only water counts as liquid, btw; Protein shakes, tea, etc. don't count). I think he must be more conservative than many of the doctors you all see, but he's very experienced and successful. I'm going to follow his instructions and not add a protein snack or two to get 600 calories. We'll see where it gets me this month. Won't worry about calories. If I stall, I'll see if it will break following his instructions. It's been a bit frustrating not losing more month 3 considering my high weight at the outset, but maybe this is just going to be my way of losing, i.e., lose, stall, lose, stall. I seem to remember Oregon Daisy saying something about her weight loss being full of stalls.

    Calories per day..help

I have consistently eaten about 600-800 calories unless I work out, then I try to get 800-900 calories in. You might be experiencing the 3 week stall. That hit for me with a venegance and lasted almost 2 weeks. I just kept on doing what I was doing, and it worked out. Are you keeping your carbs low? That works best for me, if I keep my carbs to 40 or less, and make sure to get my 60 grams of protein in. That's hard to do early out, but it has worked for me.

    30-40 grams of carbs??

My 3 week stall lasted ages, in the end I just gave up on weighing myself, my husband said the same, just continue to do what you're doing and wait a month at least to get weighed. I did and my overall results are good, and my surgeon was very happy w my weight loss. I'm a bit more than halfway to goal after 2 months, I have about 38 more pounds to lose. I too have a higher carb intake than most here, I track my intake on myfatsecret.com. My calories are between 800-1000 a day, carbs sometimes around 100. I am trying to reduce maybe to about 50 because I don't want to stall for such a long time again, but i still my need my carbs to function, look after 3 children(10 month old baby included) and go to the gym for a 1 hour cardio workout 4 times a week. I would try to reduce my carbs to about half if I were you, I'm working on that as well! As long as you continue with low calorie and exercise I think you'll start losing again regardless. I do eat the odd cookie, piece of toast, but mostly my carbs come from skimmed milk (which a drink a lot) I eat oatmeal some mornings, some fruit, and basically that. Good luck to you!

    30-40 grams of carbs??

Here's my situation. I'm already frustrated and getting disheartened. I was operated August 17. Post-op I lost give or take 20 lbs. To this date I've more than likely lost only about 5 lbs. My 3 week stall happened almost a month ago and I have yet to see the scale moving. This is beyond a stall. I'm beginning to think that I had this surgery just to lose 35 lbs. I keep reading online that most readers are keeping to a strict eating schedule of 30gr of carbs, 60+ Protein, and between 600-800 calories per day. Can anybody out there please help me by giving me a run down of what exactly you eat to maintain such a low carb diet. I've been keeping track of my calories on myfitnesspal.com and I'm eating about 700-800 calories a day. My carbs usually range about 80-120 on any given day. And please keep in mind that it's not from sweets. Is my carb intake what's messing me up? I drink Protein shakes everyday and I've already started going to the gym. There really shouldn't be any reason on why I'm not losing the weight. My boyfriend's telling me I shouldn't pay so much mind to it but I can't help it. I want to lose weight already...
