    May 2023 surgeries

That's awesome Lipman! My stall looks to be over with a 1 kilogram/2.2 pound loss. Protein been stressing me out, it's so hard at this stage when you don't do shakes and aren't a fan of powders and are vegetarian. Even protein drinks are ick now, just too sweet. I can't wait for normal foods, been saving high protein recipes. I'll go back and update our list soon as there's a few names missing. I'd love to know how @Synlee is going.

    Sleeve to RNY

I'm going to be getting my revision sometime in July. My surgeon said that with the revision, expect to lose about 40-45% of the weight you would have lost if it was your original surgery. So he said I could expect to lose about 60-65 pounds in a year for my current weight and BMI. I lost 116 pounds in a year with the sleeve, so if I can lose another 65 pounds in a year with my revision, I'll be ecstatic. I'm really good at watching my diet and working out, so I think my "dream goal" is to lose 75 pounds in a year with the revision, but my "realistic goal" is the 60-65 in a year. We'll see. I would be lower than I am now if I hadn't run into so many complications and health issues. But this revision is going to get me back to living my life so I can refocus on my health and weight loss.

    Apple cider vinegar

First of all, congrats on your success so far! That's GREAT! However, Apple Cider Vinegar will have no impact to how or where you lose weight, the elasticity of your skin, or make any other material impacts to your loss or body. It might be helpful for digestion or other things, but it truly will not add anything to your weight loss efforts. As for weight lifting, most surgeons have a recommended waiting period before working out again, so you need to check with your doctors. Weight lifting WILL help in myriad ways and it CAN help reduce saggy skin by filling it with muscle, but it won't change the skin itself. The reality is, lose skin is a byproduct of major weight loss. It will happen. The extent of it will vary widely from person to person for a million different reasons. There is very little with any scientific support to be done about it, and most of the recmondtations you might get will be anecdotal at best. Hit your protein, drink your water, lift weights, and be patient. Whatever lose skin you may have will NEVER be more detrimental than not having changed your life.

    What Made You Smile Today?

I started binge watching Mike and Molly TV show when I was recovering from surgery. For a few different reasons: One, never watched it before and found it made me laugh. It deals a lot with food and struggling to lose weight as well. Two, my doctor calls me funny lady. Says I make her laugh and remind her of Melissa McCarthy. I'll take that. Loved her on SNL and the movie Bridesmaids too. Three, Billy Gardell. Have you seen this guy's transformation after Gastric Bypass??? Amazing. He's quite open about how he lost the weight publicly. Said he wants to live to see his son get married. His weight loss makes me smile. People talking negatively about his choices, not so much. People are saying he's no longer funny after the weight loss. I blame it on his new sitcom though. Do you think people are less funny after losing weight? Check this out...

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

I have been vacillating for almost two years about having weight loss surgery. I’m still SO anxious! My surgery is next Wednesday, the 14th. I am on my 1000 calorie/mostly protein shake pre-surgery diet. I am already missing food. I am looking forward to not having hunger pains and pangs. I wish everyone a successful surgery, uneventful recovery and continuing success!

    What Made You Smile Today?

I might have done that on purpose last week lol. I wore a shirt that is 2 sizes bigger than my current shirts to the office. I got a ton of comments from my colleagues which was nice haha. I think I missed people's commenting on my weight loss which has stopped for a while now.

    Sleeve to RNY

You are going to struggle to get a definitive answer to your question. There may be something on the internet. It depends on your start weight, your adherence to the post op diet and continued work. May people on here are just pre op or just post op. Its a forum for help so once you are going great people drop away from the forum. We only know how they have got on when they come back to ask a question, usually about going from Sleeve to RNY or how to go back to weight loss again after a gain. Like everyone else, once I get to my weight loss goal, I will try to stabilise my weight loss by upping my calorie intake. Good luck

    Vitamin Intake

All this is normal. Your doing great. Water and medication and vitamins are the hard at the beginning. Your stomach is so swollen and sore. My surgeon said my new swollen stomach was the size of the inside of a pen. After a month you will begin to see improvements. I felt as if the only things I did all day were trying to drink. One day it just got easier. Space your vitamins out all day, get liquid ones where possible and gummy multivitamins if you can find one you are happy with. I had to crush some medication and take it with yogurt or honey. Its vile though. If your team allow then try vitamin patches. If you have trouble with acid heartburn ask your team for anti nausea medication/ PPI If you try warm, freezing and cold drinks you may find you tolerate one better than others. I did so much better on hot drinks, it caused less of a spasm. I never went down the protein route, my surgeon believes in dairy produce. So I drank full skimmed milk instead. You can try thinning down your protein drinks with water or milk You are about to have a stall in your weight loss that will make you wish for it back PDQ. Its called the 3 week stall. You will loose muscle. The more you walk and exercise when you can, will slow this. You will end up with a smaller frame so do not need the mass of muscle that hauls you around now . I never exercised, just walked. My muscle loss is just right. I look good in clothes.
  9. Hi So I’m two weeks post op and currently struggling to get keep my water intake and vitamins intake. Whenever I take a pill I feel severe discomfort like heartburn for 20 mins and need my husbands help to rub my chest off to move it down. This makes it difficult for me. I have restrictions to have only a spoonful of water each time and wait for 3 mins between the next spoon. This makes it tough to get enough water and my skin is becoming flaky. I also find it difficult to swallow anything with protein powder in it . I think I am losing ideal weight 1lb per day but it also includes muscle loss which I would like to avoid. Any advice or tips that I could get on taking multi vitamins and water intake. Thanks in advance.

    Period changes post VSG

I thought the same thing - estrogen flush from the weight loss. Check with your gyno to be sure. The increase of estrogen into your system can cause your fertility rate to increase too which is why many surgeons recommend doubling up on your contraceptives.

    Period changes post VSG

lots of women have weird hormone-related things going on the first few months after surgery - like mood swings and screwed up menstrual cycles. Estrogen is stored in fat cells, so supposedly a lot of it is released during the rapid weight loss period. It'll eventually stabilize.
  12. Curious how many of you have had the revision. I’m concerned with weight loss as I don’t want to lose too much. I have horrible acid reflux so I am opting the sleeve to RNY this month. I have my date of the 13th a How much on average did everyone lose? Ty in advance
  13. Hey All! I had my VSG ON 3/13/23, so I’m nearly 3 months out. Weight loss is going well, slow and steady with the expected stalls here and there. However, I have had an IUD FOR 3 years with no issues and no periods. Now since surgery I’m having periods again! They are more regular than I ever was before I had the IUD! Has anyone else noticed this? Thanks in advance!
  14. I am 7 months post op from my revision from sleeve to MGB and weight loss is at 85.5 pounds after surgery on 11/2022. I was just diagnosed with Follicular Thyroid Cancer and in the works of getting answers as to what the next steps are. My question is I am wondering if anyone has gone through this with weight loss surgery. If life is relatively the same and will losing weight be the same so long as I continue with the gym and my meal plans.
  15. Hi, I had surgery (Mini Gastric Bypass) in Jan 2023 and I am losing weight. Total weight loss is 50lb (in 23 weeks) . However most of this was lost in the early month and I have slowed to approximately 1lb per week, if that. The slower weight loss is fine, I can cope with this because its going in the right direction. What has be very anxious is that i find that I feel like i have no restriction and can eat anything. To maintain the weight-loss I need to tell myself not to eat. I am fighting with the 1lb weight loss each week to make sure its a deficit, terrified that it will go up. I don't feel like i have a tool. Are there any other MGB patients that can eat anything - bread, rice, chocolate, cereal, potatoes. I do suffer nausea if I don't eat sufficient protein but i am so worried that i have gone through surgery and i will spend the rest of my life 'dieting' with little help from my tool. Anyone else in the same position? Thanks Cals
  16. Hello I am new to the forum. I had my surgery on the 25th of may 2023. I am worried I wont lose any weight or enough weight. Also can someone explain what I am suppose to eat on my soft diet. Dietian says one thing and surgeon dr.'s office says another. I have another issue and I am so ashamed, but it kinda hurts my stomach after 5 swallows of my soups or broth: but I ate a saltine cracker and did just fine and know I am worried i have sabotaged my diet and weight loss.

    How do you curb cravings?

Oh, yeah. If you're exercising that much you're definitely not eating enough. I got that "you're thin enough now" from family/friends around where you are now. I'm glad I didn't listen. I definitely look (and feel) better at this weight than I did then. 145-150(ish) feels really good. And it gives me a cushion for regain, which is common. Keep pushing for the next 3+ months. You've got more weight loss in you. But maybe you can give yourself a bit more breathing room. Great job!

    Bariatric Myths??

i opted for sleeve cuz: (1) i wanted to continue taking a prescribed NSAIDs with no interruption (2) i was wary of dumping syndrome and (3) the thought of "re-routing my plumbing" gave me pause well. 1- Turns out i no longer needed my NDAIDs soon after surgery, so that was moot. 2 - I got dumping syndrome anyway, yay. 3 - the fear of re-routing my plumbing was probably just silly cuz i couldn't feel anything anyway. Further i developed an issue with reflux (nothing unmanageable, but still). But in the end, im still ridiculously pleased with my decision, and i lost 120 lbs in 7.5 months (i know/read lots of accounts with the same-ish loss numbers, and am actually surprised that a 30-40 lbs loss on sleeve is common!) would i make a different choice knowing what i know now? who knows. i have no idea what it would have been like if i had by-pass since i didn't do it. and the results of my sleeve went a-ok for me, so i figure i won't sweat it.

    May 2023 surgeries

I would say if it's soft, easy to chew, and moist the turkey sausage is totally fine. However, each program may have different criteria of what is considered "soft food". Congrats on your loss so far, that's great! I'm by no means an expert on stalls. I just keep reading, stick to the program. It'll break soon enough.

Turkey sausage is a great idea I just wasn’t sure that would be consider soft foods and nowhere on my list of foods say oatmeal but I would love some oatmeal. I’ve finally reach a weight loss stall I’ve been between 168 and 170 for the pass week and a half so I thought it was because I was able to eat more

    Lost all motivation

You have every right to be upset about what your husband said. It was terrible and hurtful and not something a person should say to someone he loves. I should probably refrain from giving relationship advice because I've never been in a relationship, but I have read a lot of accounts of people who experienced relationship problems after they lost weight because of their partners' jealousy. I can't help but wonder if that's at play here -- maybe your husband is feeling insecure because people are noticing how good you look and he's afraid he'll no longer be good enough for you. We all have our reasons for wanting to lose weight and wanting to get WLS, and even if 99.9% of the reason is about your health, I doubt there's a single person who doesn't have at least 0.1% of the reason as wanting others to find us more attractive. So there is nothing wrong with that. Even if your main reason for losing weight WAS in hopes of being more attractive to your husband, it's not too late to realize that you are worth it, and you were worth it all along. If your husband doesn't appreciate it, that's his loss, and now you can focus on things that are more important, like yourself, your health, your quality of life, and being there for your kids. Getting weight loss surgery is brave. You took a leap and changed your life. You lost 90 pounds in 6 months, which is amazing! How many people do you know who have done that (outside of this forum, of course)? I hope your husband gets his head out of his rear and gives you the support that you deserve, but if he doesn't, remember that you have proven to yourself that you can do it.

I'm so sorry that happened. And I know how much hurtful words from your spouse can really shake one at their core. Could you find a marriage counselor who does online video calls? I think therapy is the only viable option to get to the root of what's going on. Or maybe a bariatric surgery support group for partners. Someone had mentioned that he may feel threatened by your weight loss. That is not an uncommon problem; especially if the partner is insecure. Maybe try to build up his security. Men normally respond to verbal praise. For example, in the first few weeks after my surgery, my husband was a very grumpy person to be around. When I commented on it, he blew up and said how overwhelmed he felt with work, taking care of a large portion of the home responsibilities, that it's been all about me and my recovery, and a few other things. I took some time to process, and in the right timing, I thanked him for all he's doing and told him that it did not go unnoticed. I reassured him and built him back up. Since then, things have been going really well. Your therapist may have some other ideas.

    Lost all motivation

If this happened to me, I would feel like the rug had been pulled too. Being overweight as a woman means feeling like you’re not good enough, that your worth is tied to your weight. When you start losing weight and this happens, it would make me feel like I’m not good enough no matter what I do. I would feel so defeated like, where do I go from here? But since I am outside looking in, I can tell you that you DO matter and your weight does NOT define your worth or value. If your husband isn’t attracted to you and apparently never was, you have to decide for yourself if HE is good enough for YOU, if this type of relationship is what YOU want. How you go about figuring this out is up to you… a counselor, therapist, etc are all great options. I also wonder, from experience, if he is a little insecure himself (about you and your weight loss). At this point there are probably few people who know you as well as he does, and he would know what to say to derail you even if he doesn’t realize it. Just thoughts, may or may not hold water. Just know that you have done incredibly well, you should be so proud of what you’ve accomplished!!
