I'm 5 weeks post op and I don't have a BM too often. However, I found when I do, I get SO sick. Chills, stomach cramps, nausea... But it goes away when I'm done. Anyone else experience this? Also in the same vein, can we take a Fiber supplement since I'm not cleared for eating veggies yet? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm 3 weeks out and still haing problems. I'm going but it's pretty rare, and...(upcoming TMI warning) it's kind of like what you'd find at the bottom of a rabbit cage. So, I'm doing Colace daily, eating Activia yogurt, and drinking something hot every morning (tea or decaf). The most effective thing so far is the hot drink. Good luck - it's no fun.

I took my cleanse meds at about 10:30 am and not much has happened?!? Is that normal I feel like there should be more or will this continue for a while. Sorry if its tmi

First off, this place is great, I've already had so much help from this board the last few days, it's hard to express. This post might be a little "gross/TMI" so I apologize in advance. I was banded on 1/18/11. I've been doing quite well the last few days. I've been sticking quite closely to my doctor's diet. The only things I've consumed is: - Water - flavored water - vitamin-water - poweraide - low-fat hot-chocolate - caffeine-free tea (only the first day or two) - Protein drinks - pudding - chicken broth - cream of wheat I've lost quite a bit of weight already, much more than I had expected (10 pounds in a week) however I figured most of it is water weight. Some days I only get in 30 grams of protein (one drink) but most days I get 60 grams (two drinks). I walk between one to two miles a day, for the last 4 days. I don't think I am getting enough Fluid, maybe 40-50 oz a day (not including protein drink) Ok, on to the gross stuff: My urine has looked fine most of the time, sometimes more dark yellow than others, but nothing to surprise me. My stool is the item I'm concerned about. I had extreme constipation the first two BM, I chalked it up with the barium I had to swallow post-surgery. Today, I had a BM at my normal time a little before lunch. It was much more normal, so I was quite surprised, yet happy. Just a few minutes ago, I had extremely watery diarrhea. It was quite dark in color, and it did have what looked like coffee grounds in it. Earlier today, I did feel a little faint once or twice, but I figured it was low blood sugar (I'm not diabetic, but I hadn't eaten much in the morning). Before the diarrhea, I had felt some of the stomach twisting/gurgling feeling that I feel normally (a.k.a. "pre-band") before diarrhea, but otherwise I have felt fine. I don't have any pain anywhere, with the exception of shoulder pain. I have a tendency to over-react (I have a bit of an anxiety problem) but I'm trying to tell myself I should wait it out and see if it happens again before doing anything. Is that a good idea, or do I really need to take 'evasive' action? I would think something serious would come with lot of pain, which is why I'm hesitant to do anything. Thanks for your thoughts / God Bless!

With the two week liquid diet included I have lost 29 pounds! As of today! When I started I weighed in at a whopping 347pounds.. now I'm down to 318.. I honestly can't remember when the last time was that I weighed under 330.. This is the absolute best thing in the world.. I have had a hard time getting in my Protein and Water.. Does anybody have some helpful tips or ideas? My diet consists of cottage cheese, greek yogurt, sugar free pudding & apple sauce.. I'm already so bored and discusted with it, I prefer not to eat.. I also have a tmi.. I have been taking miralax to use the restroom.. But I havent been able to since the hospital.. I'm starting to get a little worried..

(I originally posted on the pre-op forum but I wanted to share with upcoming banders) Hello all I was just banded on May 1, 2008. I checked in at 5:30 am, was taken to pre-op @ 20 minutes later and here is how it went. I was assisted by a nurse and a nursing student. I was given my lovely robe and slippers and a numbing shot for my IV site. I met with the anesthesiologist and his nurse at this time also. I hit the bathroom one last time then I was wheeled off to the OR. I know this is TMI, but I gotta tell ya - try if at all possible to have a bm the morning of your surgery so that you will not have to do any pushing afterward. I remember scooting from my bed to the operating table, taking a deep breath then waking up in post op ( recovery). Before surgery I made sure to tell the nursing student to watch my face when I woke up so that if I had any pain I could get my pain meds started asap. Well, as soon I started to become aware, before I even opened my eyes, I heard the nursing student say "she's frowning!". The post op nurse asked me to rate the pain and I was given the appropriate pain killer and back off to sleep I was. I woke up @ 10:00 am to get moved to the outpatient recovery room and was able to visit with my family and watch tv for a while. I took a swallowing x-ray test and met with my surgeon who said that he wished all his bandings were as easy as mine. I guess my pre-op liver shrinking diet was worth it afterall. I have small kids so I stayed with family to be waited on while my hubbie took care of the kids at home. It was so nice - my family served me broth hot tea, Jello, Water and my pain meds. They also read all of the literature and talked about how proud they were of me for being so brave and making a healthy choice. I slept well on my left side and woke up at 4:oo am for some pain meds then was up and about reading throughout the day. I took a nap from noon to 3:00 p.m and was rested enough to come home tonight. I am still using my pain meds - though not every four hours like I was at first. I took great care not to use my stomach muscles even when they were feeling ok as I didnt want to be sore later. I also walked up and down steps several times and I think that is making my recovery so much easier. Some of my concerns: I was afraid of being aware of the breathing tube being taken out. - It was out before I becare aware of anything. I was scared about the whole naked thing - I was draped with blue paper sheets and the portion of my stomach that was operated on was the only thing showing. I was worried that my large chest would get in the way - The girls were taped up out of the way. YAY!! All in all, do not fear the pain... it is so doable and the surgery is so worth it! Update - Now two whole days out and still feeling great. I make sure to rest when needed and will not hesitate to knock back a pain killer when needed. I have not had to use all of the doses but its nice to know its there if necessary. I am also walking up and down my apartment stairs the keep the gas moving out:smile2: i am also still sleeping on my right as the left is still uncomfortable.

Sorry if its tmi, but I thought I'd ask some advice on my problem. Last summer I had nova sure done and it stopped my intense, heavy and never ending period(s). Last month I began bleeding after sex. I went to the gyn who checked me out, took swabs and sent me for an ultrasound. Gyn came back and told me I have adenomyosis and that my uterine lining is growing back rapidly, it grows through the muscle. So she suggested a hysterectomy. I have birthed 7 kids and no longer need it so no problem there. BUT after going through nearly 3 weeks of pain with my sleeve surgery, I am scared to death to have another abdominal surgery just to be in pain for another 2-3 weeks. has anyone else been through anything similar? Great post, thanks for the update! I also had a problem with a little "bubble" on the very end of 2 of my incision sites, but the nurse said it was totally normal. On another note, my scars have turned a more dark pink and are "sticking" out a bit more than I think they should. Again, the nurse said ok, no problem and they have since dried up and fallen off (sorry for TMI). I got my first fill this last Tuesday (3.25cc in 10ccband) and it changed me in SO many positive ways, am SO glad I got it. Keep us updated!

i am four months post and my port hurts when I have been sitting too long, when I have been sleeping on that side, or when I have sex the "old fashioned way" (sorry for the tmi). It just feels sore like it's been stretched or scrunched, either one. Usually I just gently massage the area and then walk a round a bit and it goes right away. Good luck!

I just had my sleeve done on Friday 14th and have been on a drip. Today was the first day I was allowed fluids and the soup sat well but later on when I tried my protein drink I had diarrhea I barley drank any. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hey Ladies... Just wanted to report that I had my 1st non-drug induced monthly cycle.. Sept 1-6... A little crampy early on.. but nothing severe enough to require meds... Didn't bleed like a slaughtered pig (though the regular tampons didn't quite work too well day 2 and 3) TMI.. sorry... but, I'm excited and hopefully, my gyn will tell me that I can get my IUD.... I was diagnosed w/ PCOS 10 years ago... I usually have to do a 5-10 cycle of Provera to bleed.. Got a Mirena Feb 2011... didn't have any more periods until this one.. Gyn wanted me to do Provera again, didn't want to .. just prayed and I think my body if finally trying to act normally... Kind of stuck at 305... but, I'm down another size.. wore a size 20/22 dress from Target yesterday!!!

Yes, it really sucks. I've had my period now for 21 of the past 30 days now. Hoping it will stop eventually. Like I said, it's not my normal flow - but it's dark brown (TMI) like really old blood. So nasty. And eventually I would like to have relations with my hubby!

Ok this might be a TMI question but how long was it before you had your first bowel movement? I was sleeved Monday the 25th and nothing much going on there except for passing gas. I have my follow up with my dr on April 4th. I wasn't really gonna worry too much about it till I go see my dr next week. Any thoughts? Thanx :-) Sent from my iPhone using VST

What are people doing to keep constipation at bay? I was in the ER all day yesterday due to a blockage....(I don't recommend it----it's ugly and so is the procedure to get rid of it)....they fixed me, and all is almost good......but I can't help be concerned about recurrences......I drink 40-60 oz and include 1 or 2 premier Protein drinks a day....and being made of whey, which is from dairy, I'm wondering if that's constipating? The ER docs said to stay away from dairy......I'm still only able to eat 2oz at a time....3oz if it's very moist.....so I have depended on those drinks..... So, what are you doing to keep regular? Many thanks (sorry if this was TMI)

Im having no problem getting liquids down, any consistency, any temp, and I'm just curious how you can tell when your ready to move into puréed. Coughing and dry heaving we're EXTREMELY painful in the hospital, so I want to avoid vomiting at all costs. Also, I know this is TMI, but how long before people had a bowel movement? I'm not surprised that I haven't had one since there isn't much in me, but I don't want to go too long without one.

How Much Time Off are You Planning?
Patterba replied to Patterba's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for sharing your experiences/plans. So truth be told, I am kind of hedgy about missing any more time from work. First, I am not telling anyone about this, and you know when you are missing from the office for an extended period, you get the 100 question run down... I also already had my vacation, and absence due to the flu (and I had the flu shot!!). Prior to September, I never missed work, now I feel like I haven't worked a full week since, (had a D&C last week and have a colonoscopy on 10/22) perhaps TMI but I am trying to get all of that stuff out of the way before getting banded. I think that stuff is more stressful than the actual banding procedure.. I will be glad when it is November!!! -
YES! This happened exactly to me. The incision that I had an infection in sealed up and the active infection was gone but there was a big hard knot under it and I thought well I guess my body will just absorb the junk. Then suddenly last Friday I was in the tub and I looked down and it was sort of poofy. I left it alone then I got out of bath and got dressed. Suddenly I remembered it and I was walking into the bathroom to grab a cotton swab to use to poke it with and when I put pressure on it WHAM it nastily exploded up into my eye ( I was sort of bent over looking at it). I know, I know TMI. I washed my eyes out and it continued to ooze a healthy amount for a bit. The hard lump of junk under it is gone and it scabbed over now and is back to healing up.

5 Days Post-op Constipation! Help!
Crystal88 replied to mnmlst's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got lucky, I had my first stool since Halloween surgery, but....(sorry TMI), it looked a little too dark? Not sure if I should mention it to the Nurse practitioner on Monday. -
TMI ALERT! I'm getting nervous! I've lost 5 lbs since I last saw my nutritionist and this morning I weighed myself and all the weight that I lost appeared. I know it's because of my monthly visitor but I can not gain weight (insurance purposes). I'm trying to avoid salty foods and walk . What else can I do? Has this happened to anyone else around weigh in time?

Curious, Did This Happen To You?... No 3 Week Stall, But A Gain!
Shoppingbeemom replied to happy1957's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with clk, I even have had a hysterectomy and every month I gain and lose with in that one week. I am a slow loser as well. I lose about 1 lb. a week, so I know how bad that weight gain looks. I try to stay away from the salty meats around that time of the month, because I also swell ( I can tell with my ring ). As for the constipation, it's common because you're not putting as much food in as before. (tmi) I go about once a week now. If it goes longer than that I have a prune. -
I am on the 6th day of my post-op liquid diet...6 more to go. Not sure i can make it. At this point the shakes are making me nauseous. My stomach is constantly churning and I'm in the bathroom every 15 minutes (tmi I know) . Any tips to get through this would be appreciated.

April 10, 2012 (TMI warning for some of you guys out there) Another day waking up in pain. My ankles, my knees, my hips, my back, my shoulders, and my neck.... I am still struggling with the lack of Advil in my regimen. I love to play with my little daughter. However, she is a toddler and very active. Her favorite things to do DAILY are dance, twirl, jump, bounce, etc to music. I have to say I cannot wait to be rid of all my pain. In an attempt to keep up with her and not disappoint her, I force myself to do this with her daily, even knowing what the repercussions will be to my joints. Not to mention, when my daughter wants to jump and bounce to her favorite song everyday, I just about take myself out with my boobs! The sheer physics of it all is kind of funny actually I go up, and the velocity of my boobs seem to continue to accelerate as they head toward the sky (or rather my face) like two melons being launched out of a sling shot. The funny part is you are already on your way back down as your boobs lift further, then they drop at the rate of gravity (9.81 m/s2) VERY quickly after. There is nothing like the jerking halt of what feels like two giant bowling balls tied to a string around your neck being dropped off the edge of a building. I know I am not the only one who knows this feeling. This isn't just with jumping, or bouncing, this is also with running. Even in situations you would never dream of.... Once as I sat in a friends speedboat going over the choppiest of waters. Yep, that sure did make for some entertainment for a good 30 minutes as I did everything I could to keep these puppies under control. It did give some good laughs though. Another funny boob story, I took my son to an arcade for the day (little mom and son time) He wanted to play this virtual roller coaster, so I get on, lean back and the entire ride starts to move with the movie screen. Well, I have to say, laying on your back with your breasts jerking around in just about 360 degree turns is not a pleasant experience. My point is, I can't wait to get rid of these knockers! They are in my way; they make my back hurt, my shoulders hurt, and my neck hurt. I want little itty-bitty boobies with a cute lacy bra. I would like to work out in a sports bra without having the enormous uniboob that is oh so stylish. I have no doubt when I take all this weight off that is pounding down on my joints I will feel better and I can continue to play with my very active daughter pain free. Ooooooooh the day can't come soon enough.

So okay, I tried to be patient about this but....I can't take it anymore, I have to talk about it. I was banded on 6/17/11 and have lost a good amount of weight. I'm happy about that but I have been on the plateau for like 2 weeks. I have actually gained 2 lbs. Well actually, I was sick about a week and a half ago and lost 8 lbs in 2 days because I had a really bad stomach virus and just had really bad diarrhea, so basically (I pooped out 8 lbs) sorry TMI! Which means really that was water weight, but now I can't seem to get going again. My diet hasn't changed, I still eat and do the same things I did before I got sick. Probably more exercising so I don't get it. I have had 3 fills and not at 5.8cc in a 10cc band. How long will it take for my weight loss to start again? I need help!!!

TMI continued ... ummm yeah, one weird thing ... i now have some hair on my tummy ... not sure what im going to do about that ...
