  1. Ok I have a stomach bug...7months post op. TMI...Diarrhea since last Saturday. I am staying hydrated so that's good. Mild fever at the beginning. My former go to foods are not ideal anymore. BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apples and toast... Actually allergic to apples ) would make me feel worse I am sure. What soothes your stomach? Any OTC medicines you recommend? At this point there is nothing my surgeon told me to avoid except NSAIDS.
  2. Hey all, so I was sleeved on 5/23. I am so grateful for everything I've learned from this board just by reading people's stories, so hopefully, someone can benefit from mine... My surgery was at 9:15 am this Tuesday. On my way to the hospital, I was complaining to my sister that I wish my surgery was outpatient instead of I day inpatient stay because I was so sure I'd be fine and just wasting my time in a hospital... boy was I wrong! Apparently I don't tolerate anesthesia well at all. I woke up in the PACU in horrible pain and severe nausea/gagging/abdominal spasms that were almost nonstop. The last time I had surgery was when I was a kid and I just remember waking up and feeling a bit of pain then.. I thought it may be the same. I was transferred to my unit for my first night and every few minutes I was calling the nurse for pain meds or nausea meds, or both. They had me on 3 different types of medications for nausea, 2 different pain meds. Despite this, I was still having significant breakthrough pain and nausea. I couldn't get out of my bed at all, let alone walk a few hours after surgery. The entire time I kept thinking what the heck did I do to myself and I wondered whether I'd be sent home feeling this way. I didn't get more than a few minutes of sleep the entire night. All of the nurses on the floor did everything they could to help me out and I could not be more grateful for such a wonderful team caring for me. The next morning I was still on max doses of all the same medications, but I was starting to feel better. Started walking with the nurse's assistant and took a few more laps around the floor throughout the day. I had lots of secretions in my lungs that was keeping my oxygen saturation down, so I had to clear them out. By evening time, I was more stable, but I still had not peed and was not passing gas. This may be TMI but they had to catheterize me 5 times I had to stay inpatient for another night so they could monitor my urine output. This morning I woke up much better, just trying to take in all of my fluids, but I'm getting small bouts of nausea from just one 1oz of liquid per hour. It's slowly getting better, but I'm still behind on my fluids. Anyway, I'm so happy to finally be home. I'm gonna keep drinking fluids like it's my job. I also wanted to add a couple of things people may find helpful: First, if you are out of surgery and having trouble tolerating plain water, try a flavored water. I never was much of a fan of flavored water pre-op, but it helped me so much after surgery. Second, if you are having bouts of nausea, ask the nurse for some alcohol prep pads (the ones they swipe you with before you get an injection), place it under your nose and keep inhaling. This may seem strange, but it kills nausea and worked great while I was waiting for my IV nausea meds to be administered. I hope my story didn't scare anyone off. Everyone responds to anesthesia differently, I guess I'm one of the unfortunate people who have a hard time with it. I also hear for most people the first night is by far the worst, and that was definitely the case for me. I started feeling much better by the next morning. Good luck to everyone!
  3. I was released Thursday & I have had diarrhea at least 1 time a day since. Do you think it's just from the anesthesia? I am able to get in my liquids just fine, no issues. Also my Vitamins & b12. Been taking the Prilosec they prescribed. No pain meds since 3 am (yay!), or nausea meds since last night (another yay!). Up at 7 this morning, watched tv, took a 2 hour nap, watched a movie, took a shower, dried & straightened my hair, read part of a book & going to go walk at the mall (bc it's 104° here today, yuck!!). So what do you think the diarrhea is from? :-( I don't feel bad when it happens. Robyn

    Woke up in pain???

i am four months post and my port hurts when I have been sitting too long, when I have been sleeping on that side, or when I have sex the "old fashioned way" (sorry for the tmi). It just feels sore like it's been stretched or scrunched, either one. Usually I just gently massage the area and then walk a round a bit and it goes right away. Good luck!
  5. Hi everyone, I'm sorry this is TMI, but I'm 4 days post op and have been having diarrhea, I'm wondering if it's because I haven't eaten anything but liquids, jello, and pudding and that's why it's causing this. Any thoughts? Thank you!
  6. Not to give TMI, but I am totally irregular since my surgery on 4/9/09. I have minimal pain overall and will be going back to work on Tuesday. (Yey!) The irregularity, coupled with the gas pain is a nightmare. I tried the strips and they do nothing. Also, I have lost almost 8 lbs in less than 3 days because I can't seem to hold anything in that I drink. Anyone else experiencing this? Is this normal?
  7. I have seen a wide variation of posts on this topic, from not having a period at all, to having very heavy periods. I was curious though if anyone has had a similar experience to me. I have been on my period on and off for the entire 3 months since I've had my surgery. At first it seemed like I was just getting it more often, but now it will start at the drop of a hat. I have just started seeing a new guy, and would love for things to progress in that department at a normal rate, but I'm kind of terrified that it will start up, since it does any time my hormones seem to get going. I knew hormones going wacky is normal, but this is really getting stressful. I started the Nuvaring today, which has been prescribed to me for the last couple months, but I'd been afraid to take it. I'm hoping that might have an effect. At this point I am even willing to go through a stall if it puts me on one just so that I can have a few weeks off! I have an appointment with my gynecologist in a few weeks, and I have my 3 month follow up next week so I will ask my surgeon, but I was hoping maybe anyone had a little insight on it or just to know whether anyone else is having this issue.
  8. My strips were almost off on there own and when I pulled one off after my shower I noticed that only one was not closed and open its small and I don't think I need to call the Dr or anything ( I see him Monday) almost like a cut its pink and watery SORRY FOR TMI My kids get bigger cuts then this.. I just put a band-aide on it . It was not the big incision but one of the smaller ones. Maybe he will put a stitch in it or just use a butterfly band aid. anyone have this happen?? I'm only two weeks post op on Tuesday.
  9. I really have no place to ask this, I'm super embarassed, and have been on webmd all night, and I feel so weird! First off, I'm 24, and in the testing stages before lapband. For a while, I've always had that "need to pee NOW" issue. A few times, I've accidently slightly peed my pants on the way to the bathroom, before I could get my pants down. Now tonight for the first time since I was say, maybe 4, I peed my pants, like, totally. Thank God I was outside and no one saw it. I've had some tiny pain in my lower abdomen, but I have IBS and I've had ovarian cysts my whole life, and I've kind of gotten used to it. I'm going to be calling my doc on Monday and trying to get in right away, but I just feel totally ashamed, astonished, and embarased. I'm only 24, I would think, ok maybe if I've had a baby, thats expected, maybe if I was much older, than its ok, but I'm 24?? I just was wondering if there is anyone on here who has ever had the issue or has any advice, I just don't have anywhere to ask this because I'm so embarrased! Thanks for listening!
  10. Remember that poop is a waste product. Right now your body doesn't have a lot of waste. So what you're able to discard is much, much less. Your body also isn't good at converting liquids to solids, so expect to have diarrhea or very loose stool when it does happen. I was released from the hospital Wed of last week. My first poop was early Tue morning, pure liquid. My second was yesterday morning, mostly liquid and some pudding consistency. Not much at all. Haven't had poop #3 yet. Sorry if this is TMI, but it's an honest account of what you might expect (similar, anyway).
  11. I was trying to talk myself into "just a bite" of steak. Last night and today have been really hard. TMI but Aunt Flow is coming to town So the cravings have set in and I have NO energy at all!!!! And I have a birthday party to go to Saturday! I'm stepping out when it comes time for the cake. Less than 2 weeks and we'll be sleeved. For whatever reason though I am making myself sick worrying that I'll wake up with no sleeve. I've been doing great on my diet but in the back of my head I'm just thinking "What if 2 weeks isn't enough?" Anyone else having this fear or am I letting my anxiety take control?
  12. Just a quicky here; while I was in Hawaii, I discovered that I can now comfortably wear a 38 inch waist jeans, shorts, and slacks. The last time I could fit into pants with smaller than a 40 inch waist, I was 18 years old. I'm well on track to "bottoming out" at around a 36 inch waist by my birthday in June, and given how solidly built my legs and butt are (TMI?) that's going to be just about cloth on muscle and bone, very little fat. So that's a tremendously great feeling; to be fitting into clothes that I haven't fit into since I was a teenager! And only 9 months out! Huzzah!

    Weight GAIN this week!!!!

This may sound ridiculous, but are you constipated?? I have had that issue and then it "resolved" itself and I find that the scale has moved..... GROSS...YES.....TMI.....Maybe....Losing Weight.....PRICELESS
  14. I'm 5 weeks post op and I don't have a BM too often. However, I found when I do, I get SO sick. Chills, stomach cramps, nausea... But it goes away when I'm done. Anyone else experience this? Also in the same vein, can we take a Fiber supplement since I'm not cleared for eating veggies yet? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. Its a show on the Travel Channel that stars Adam, a food challenger that travels the US taking food challenges. Like. 4 lbs buger with 2 lbs of fries that he has to finish in 30 minutes. Or finishing 50 super hot wings in 30 minutes. Ot how bout the 6 lbs of deep fried turkey nuts he eats in 60 minutes? Today I saw him finish a 9 lb steak platter in 1 sitting. He's successful in about 90% of the challenges. It grosses me out, makes my tummy hurt, but at the same time it pulls me in. He's a little chubby but by@no means obese. Not sure if he eats at any other time. I ate about 2 oz too much last nite and paid for it on the toilet (sorry, tmi). I can't imagine finishing 9 lbs of food. Can u imagine? Toward the end of any challenge, u see him getting a little sick, mouth start watering, sweating. Not sure if he ever vomits (of course it never shows that part). I think my tummy would rupture at about 1/10th of his challenges. And I'm being totally serious when I say RUPTURE. Anyone else watch this show? Like I said, it makes me cringe, sometimes making my stomach turn but it always pulls me in....

  17. My doc actually told me to take advil! He said that as long as I drink before I take a pill, and then drink at least 250ml (one cup) of warm Water afterwards, AND as long as it doesn't get stuck... then he suggests I take advil as it's much better at releiving pain and it also speeds up the healing process. I haven't had any problems thus far. oh, and this was definitely not TMI. There have been posts that are A LOT worse. This is a good place to be open and honest.
  18. Thanks everyone. Today hasn't been all that great. I was supposed to have a barium swallow study done this morning. I spent the majority of the night in the bathroom dealing with the effects of Milk Of Magnesia....not fun. Anyway, I was incredibly weak and sick this morning. My nurse gave me zofran IV and sent me off for my test. I knew I was in trouble when I was shaking in the wheelchair being wheeled to radiology. I kept feeling like I was going to pass out. So they get me in the Rad. dept, get everything all ready for the test...tell me to come stand on this little platform thing...Still telling them I feel very weak. They hurried up and lowered the thing over my chest and then I started feeling like I couldn't breathe, heart racing, scared to death because I felt like I was going to yak and faint all at the same time. At this point I hadn't even had the lovely stuff to drink. I felt the thing I was standing on start to go back. When the doc heard me he immediately started adjusting the table so that I was laying down..but it freaked me out!!! I just KNEW I was going down. They got in me in a laying position and I started feeling a bit better, though crazy nauseous. They decided to send me back to my room and I don't remember the rest. I woke up back in my bed and feeling extremely drained. I really don't know what happened.....I do know my body was exhausted from the Milk of Mag...literally on the toliet every few minutes for HOURS yesterday...and since I've already shared TMI.....PERIOD FROM HELL. They are going to repeat the test tomorrow. I hope it goes well. Tonight I felt ok enough to get a shower and go for a short walk down the hall and back. I'm ready to go home and passing this test will get me out of here.
  19. I took a couple of bites of scrambled egg today at around 8am and then waited about an hour to have some of my Protein drink to take my medicine with. I still haven't taken all of my medicine. Two pills and two sips later I felt like I was going to throw up. I have been like that for hours. Finally those sips of Protein Drink came up. About 30 minutes ago I took a tsp of Pepto Bismol and that came up. I can't drink anything. I got sick again and it looked like I drank the whole bottle of Pepto. I am feeling better but it still feels like something is stuck. I called the dr on call and it didn't seem to be a big deal to him but it sure is to me! Fiance is out looking for Papaya Extract for me. Oh God I hope this never happens again.

    TMI...

One more question from me, surgery was 3/26 I started my menstrual cycle on Monday I called the nurse they said yes it's normal the surgery or anesthesia can do that. But it's really heavy, should I give it some time or call again? Anyone else have this happen?

    Constipation ugh!

Milk of magnesia is a my little constipation saver!! Since my surgery I've had to do, what I call a cleansing about 2 1/2 weeks. I tend r get a upper right pain as a reminder it's time to drink milk of magnesia. It was recommended shortly after my surgery when my bowel movement didn't come regularly within 5 days out. Ensure to plan to be home after drinking or near restroom within 1 to 2 hours after drinking. For some sooner. When it hits you, it's hits. After I drink it I follow it by drinking as much Water as possible to somewhat finish my cleansing sooner so I can leave my house. Caution: if you feel urge to release gas, be very careful as it may be part of cleaning and not gas. Sorry TMI but like I said it my miracle little must have in stock all the time. Walgreen brand cherry flavor is my favorite and many times buy one, get one free or 50% off. Good luck, hope this helps and feel better. PS Oh always keep peppermint handy as well. Helps release gas and tummy aches.
  22. Subhanallah (Glory be to God),I don't know where to start! I guess i'll start with the bad news, masha'Allah (it is what God has decreed). First, I did not get any excercise in for a week and just started back two days ago. Second, I think I have irratated my esophagus. I do not have a fill, have never pb'd or slimed but I have been feeling swollen, tight, and have a sore ichy throat. Last week we were out of town all day and I had a granola bar....SUSPECT #1! Then the next day I tried some Musli Mix High Fiber Cereal...SUSPECT #2! I supose a grain could have got stuck. I recall having the popcorn kernal feeling, and trying to cough it out slightly. Third, and this really isn't so bad but it leads up to my good news, I 'only' lost one pound in my 9th week out. The one pound wasn't so bad considering that I had not excercised all that week, ate three pieces of KFC, and that I played taste tester for my friend's new Bakery Home Business. I promised her before the band and she said she felt bad asking me but I told her that I would do it because I wasn't really dieting anyway. I really didn't eat much. She gave me itty bitty pieces of several things....NONE OF THEM SET OFF CRAVINGS!!!! I was shocked. If that were me on Atkins it would have set off either a one week binge or I would have quit all together. The Good News! I started back walking two days ago! I have been on liquids for two days in hope that it will relieve my irratated esophagus. My weigh in day is on wedsnesdays, so I had no intention of weighing in today (well not officially). Here goes TMI, but last night all the liquids that went in one end came out the other...it seemed non-stop. I thought that had to account for something! I was hoping it was the three pounds I wanted to lose last week to make it a nice 50lbs lost in two months. I was 230 the last time I checked. When I got on the scale this morning before my morning walk, before eating or drinking anything, and after relieving myself...I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was weighing in at 218!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes. I checked to make sure the scale was properly balanced, I woke my daughter up to put her on it to make sure it was working (lent it to my neighbors last night, who have a track record of BREAKING EVERYTHING they borrow!), I got on and off to make sure I was seeing it correctly..it kept saying the samething...218!!! 218!!! 218!!! Allahu Akbar (God is The Greatest)!!!That makes me down 59 lbs in a little over 2 months!!! I like totally skipped the 220's!!! Masha'Allah. It is so amazing because last night I planned to updated my profile today, after I had weighed my 4 year old and realised that not only had I lost the weight of my 30lb one year old son, but that I also lost the weight of my 40lbs 4 year old. I was going to set a mini goal to lose the weight of my 55lbs 6 year old and then this morning I realised that I had!!! Almost two years ago I started Atkins at 247lbs. In three months I was down to 217lbs. I am one pound away from that. I bought clothes then that were really nice but gave them all away to charity a few months ago because I could not foresee being that size again and it was taking up unneccesary space. Now all I have in my closet are my 'moo moo's'. I don't plan on doing any shopping any time son because I am still not a size that I want to actually wear nice clothes in yet. I will stick with my comfortable moo moo's for the time being. We go on vacation in August, insha'Allah (God Willing). Perhaps by then I will be a size that I will feel more comfortable buying new clothes in. I thank Allah for making this all possible. I thank the rulers of this country for having free to minimum cost medical care. I thank my surgeon and his wonderful surgical team for giving me excellant care. I thank my husband for supporting me and paying for this surgury and I thank all my fellow bandsters on these forums for being there for me and other people who had or are considering wls. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Wine

Ok so me being a lil stopped up..(prolly TMI) but I drank 2 glasses of wine last night an it did not get me drunk. I wasent intending on that. But what it did do is clean my system out which was well needed. I am pleased to say that I have heard and read so many horror stories and I proved that it will not do anything but work as a colon clense. Especially if u haven't went #2 in 2 days.

remember when we were the newbies?

I remember. :smile2: I lurk around now again - generally don't have much interesting to say (unless you count my post in the 20's forum about getting naked with a new partner...LOL...that will probably be more TMI than what you said, Linda). I'm not where I imagined I would be by now, either. Around about the time I STOPPED my very quick downward slope on the weight-loss was because I filed for divorce. The emotional strain was just too much. I eat my emotions. Yep, still do. The times when I've gone overboard with it (eating past the point of fullness because I was trying to drown the feelings), I have PAID the price. Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch...more ouch. Hopefully I remember the pain next time I think THAT was a good idea. Two more months to our 2nd Bandiversary, huh? Well, I'm bound and determined to be well within "normal" range for my height by then according to my BMI. I still want to lose 37 more lbs total, but I have 8 to go to be "normal." I got lazy with my weight loss over the past year. I'd eat well sometimes, others not so much. The band has ALWAYS been a Godsend, however. Whatever the lowest weight is that I get to, I cannot for the life of me gain more than 10 lbs over that. So that has been fantastic and I'm grateful everyday for that. The past couple of months, I started buckling down on my fitness. Not so much my diet. I didn't limit WHAT I ate, but I did my best to make "better" choices. But I didn't guilt myself if I wanted a piece of pie or some chocolate, or whatever. The key is - I've been working out like a maniac for two months. Got down to the lowest I had been (which is recorded on this board in the "list"), and then one lb further than that. And was stuck. So the past several days I've forced myself to low carb in addition to the working out...and I'm down another lb. My goal is to low-carb it for the next two weeks (until the 1st). I'm going on a vacation with the new (very hot!) boyfriend and I wanted to look my best. :smile2: I don't want to worry about carbs on a vacation, but will really do my best to not overdo it with sugar. When I get back, I'll probably get back on low carb for a bit...don't know how long. I've used low carb in the past to blast off the lbs, but I think the body starts to build a tolerance to it and an INtolerance to any kind of carbs, which is not good when you want to go back to eating like a normal person. So I basically plan to only use it for jumpstarts...kind of like getting me off the plateau I was on (it worked like a charm). All-in-all, I'm happy with my band. I'm coming to peace with the fact that I haven't lost ALL that I thought I would have lost by now. But I'm learning the value of hard work and determination when it comes to shaping my body. I bike 75 total miles a week, I run 15.8 total per week, swim about a mile and a half, and do a kickboxing class. I'm stoked about all the fitness things that I was NEVER able to attain when I was 66 lbs heavier than I am now. Sorry for the long post. Figured I'd give an update on one of your member lurkers and share some of the insights/experiences I've had over the past two years. You guys are great - I keep an eye on what you're doing.
  25. Hey everyone! Just checking in. I noticed there are 2008, 2009 and soon to be 2010 bandsters! Can you believe we've had our bands this long? I'm still glad I have this band (even though I didn't lose what I thought I would). It has helped me so much in losing what I did, helped me maintain now during pregnancy, and I can't wait until breastfeeding time when my metabolism gets to kick in, I can get a fill, and really go to town. (Sorry, TMI guys? haha) Anyway, I know I would weigh a lot more at this point if I hadn't had the band. Take care everyone.
