Saskatchewan RNY?
Dawn306 replied to hopetochangemylife's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi, I am also in Regina, Sk. I am pre-surgery - getting my surgery in Mexico so that I can skip the waiting. I am curious to know what kind of help you are getting from the bariatric program? Is it the same old "eat less and exercise more" kind of bs? Cuz we all know how well THAT works! But seriously, I would love to know what kind of diet they want you to follow, since I don't get any pre-op assistance at all. I think I have to do fluids only for a week before surgery, but that's all. -
I’m 8 weeks out now. Can I have a coffee yet?
Toomanytacos replied to Seahawks Fan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
T! YES! I was drinking decaff the first week after surgery, day 2 after surgery. I wasn't supposed to drink caffeine for a month out, but I hate teh taste of decaff coffee. Yuck. But so I drank regular coffee a week out, until now I not only lived. I didn't get dehydrated There are some rules that are put in place "just in case" but you should be fine The reason for the decaff instead of caffee, is bc caffeine tends to make you pe more, and they are afraid you'll become dehydrated since you can't drink as much liquids right after surgery Enjoy! -
25 pounds from losing 200 in a single year! Also in 4-ville!
RebecaSparkles replied to Patrick Curl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Awesome job! Keep up the hard work! I'd discourage the biggest looser bc you can google how horridly they treat the contestants. Make them exercise with injuries & they dehydrate themselves before weigh in so they don't get cut. I think that a good personal trainer that is local to you can be of help. They may be persuaded to take you on probono. I also would look into some Of the freebie fitness routines on youtube/ on demand & have your dr say if they're appropriate for you? Good luck! allons-y -
R there any Dec 2013 sleevers
sweet T365 replied to chanelle102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm happy with the 65 pounds I'm just nervous I'm falling into bad habits bc my sleeve can handle so much more!!! Mentally it sucks to not be able to eat anything for 2 months and then you wake up and ur able to eat half a turkey and egg white wrap!!! I guess I just have to stay positive a lot has happened to me these last fee weeks and I'm just feeling down n out what happen for u to be able to eat more do u think your pouch stretch out? What r u eating because this is so hard for me! -
Bc I'm brand new at this. My Doctor never gave me much in terms of how I should eat. I've basically relied on google and pinterest to tell me what to do. I mean why are you worried specifically? Anything going wrong? Any issues?
-
My Dr and I talked about 3 types. Roux en Y but he said I didnt have acid reflux so I didnt need that, the sleeve w duodenal switch and just the sleeve. I chose the sleeve w the duodenal switch bc i would lose more weight and get off my prescriptions. But i guess the nurse misunderstood and scheduled me for the Sleeve on Dec 2nd. If I want the sleeve w the switch i would have to wait til Jan and start my deductible all over? What do I do?

I haven't had a continuous period like that, but I have been getting it twice a month like clockwork. My surgeon's office said the first 6 months toootally wack out your hormones, so any sort of weirdness is normal. My weirdness has persisted past 6 months, and my gyno thinks it's because I restarted BC. I got off of it a month before surgery and two months after because of the increased blood clot risk. Still haven't normalized, and if it continues, she'll want me to switch to another level. Your hormones really change dramatically.. Wow twice a month, I don't know which is worse going on 12 days or twice a month. Hopefully these will return to normal soon.

I'm scheduled for my procedure on July 23rd. It's a Friday. I was told that I will fly into San Diego early, be picked up and taken to Hospital BC and have my procedure that same day. I will stay that night and Saturday night at the hospital and Sunday I will be at the hotel. Monday I will check out of the Hotel and be driven back to the airport in San Diego and then fly home. Everything taking only 4 days. I'm worried that I'm not giving myself enough time to rest. Is this time line realistic? I don't want to be in excruciating pain or hurting myself trying to do to much to soon. Any feedback?? Sent from my moto g stylus using BariatricPal mobile app

The surgery doesn't scare me, but...
charley27 replied to Sparkles!!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could tell them they can text or call you if they need to. That usually makes people feel better but they don't actually do it bc they know you're recovering Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Type II Diabetes Management after surgery
Danigirl521 replied to molinomama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm type 2 also and before surgery was taking 2000mg Metphormine, a Januvia and 45mg Actos and still uncontrolled. I was headed for insulin next. Since surgery on August 15th I'm off of all of them except the Actos. I just saw my GP last week and my A1C was great so he lowered the Actos to 30mg. I'm very happy but have worked to keep it this way. I also eat very low carb and check my BS levels every day. I was also told I would be better off with the Bypass because of my diabetes and am happy to prove them wrong! :bolt: -
My lap-band/PCOS/pregnancy story
mandimedic replied to Connorsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello everyone: I have been searching these forums for some advice. Just quick I will rewind and give all of you my history. I am 30 i am recently remarried and we want to have kids. I was Dx with PCOS about 10 years ago from my GYNO never really treated my just told me i needed to lose weight( always around 200's). When i was 18 I had a successful pregancy and now he 12. I never thought he would have been and only child. Sorry I am rambaling. Ok now more present time over the last 2 years we tried to concieve but nothing. I did Metformin, clomid, synthroid and even tried femara but nothing. I only had 1 period naturally. So we decided that weight loss was going to be my only hope. I had LapBand 04/2010 i am almost 3 months post op and still no Aunt Flow. HELP?? I have had breast tenderness like crazy but no AF. I am not on BC because it makes me sick but we are protecting against pregancy at least for this year. So I guess I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a chance that I will resume normal cycles. Should I we an RE now or wait my year? If any one has any advice i would appericate it!! -

Band complications during & after pregnancy
hardygostlin replied to Wheetsin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was banded in September 2009 and became pregnant in April of 2010 with twins. I was down 63lbs (weighing 158lbs) at the start of my pregnancy. I had no band complications but was concerned with my babies getting enough nutrients since I didn't get an unfill. I did see my band surgeon upon finding out I was pregnant and his recommendation was to stay where I was and play it by ear. His point behind doing that was the fact of unhealthy eating and blood sugar levels while pregnant. With my pregnancy being twins and my history of miscarriage, I was watched very closely by my OB and Perio. Both doctor offices agreed with my band surgeon. I delivered 8 weeks early but at weeks before delivery I was having a hard time with heartburn (which ended after being banded) and everything being "squished". It would take me a long time to eat but I would do what I could to get it down. I breast fed which made a huge difference in my post baby weight loss. My boys were in NICU for 34 days and when I got home from the hospital and NICU stay I had lost all my pregnancy weight plus an additional 2 lbs. All in all, I delivered 2 healthy baby boys and I am still healthy too! -
how does seeing a Nutritionist work?
TQUAD64 replied to MISS.SUSAN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Miss.Susan: I have BC/BS Calpers Netvalue, which required that I either see a nurtitionist or my primary care doctor for the required 6-month supervised diet. I saw a combintaion of both. If I could not make it to the nutritionist I went to my PC. So starting January 2008 I started seeing the nutrionist once a month on a Saturday, which was very convenient for me. She documented my weight loss and/or gains. We atlked about exercise, protien and always discuss the banding/surgery. We talked about nutrition and Vitamins, and so much more. Anyway, my six-months required attendance was completed back in July, however I continue to meet with her monthly because I value the information she provides me and she keeps it real!. I will conitnue to meet with her after the surgery as well. -
Dr Amson is the gold standard in BC for WLS but the wait is very long. Sometimes the best is worth waiting for, but there are an increasing number of skilled surgeons in the country that now do the band as well as the clinic in Washington State. Just a matter of determining what your criteria is.

I went to my Wellness and NUT class yesterday and I have to say that I was shocked. Once again I go to these mandatory classes and I sit there and think, "Does anybody actually know how to google?" Hell, the moment that the idea of VSG tickled my brain I immediately powered up my trusty laptop for some quality web time. Thats how I found all you lovely men and women on this site! Yet here I was, months later sitting in my W&NUT class and listening to this one gentleman say, "You mean I have to give up my McDonald's Deluxe Breakfasts?". And he wasn't being sarcastic, he was actually dismayed. *sigh* On another note, I also passed my Psych(o) exam yesterday! $345 for 50 minutes that involved a conversation and a test to determine my mental wellbeing. Obviously I went into the wrong line of business as this sure beats my hourly wage! I'm having friends over for dinner on Saturday and my bff told me that her husband isn't really getting why I'm having this surgery. Basically he's worried about me having surgery, as all surgery is dangerous. Also, he thinks that you can lose weight just by trying harder and using will power. Luckily my bff said that she thinks thats bs. I dont think that if you've been thin your entire life that you can understand how hard it is to lose weight and keep it off. So dinner should be interesting. Basically my mantra is, "You can be supportive without actually agreeing" and "Bring on the questions as long as the conversations are respectful". I'm not worried about it as its my choice, my family is behind me, and the effects speak for themselves. Also I know his questions come out of concern for me, and that it's not coming from a mean or judgemental place. Sometimes I forget that those who have never had surgery or health problems view surgery so suspiciously. I'm only 29 but I've had my appendix and tonsils removed, pins put into my foot, two surgeries on my legs to fix a brown recluse bite gone bad, wisdom teeth removed, and breast reduction surgery. Surgery itself does not scare me...and I think you get to a point in your life that you are willing to risk everything in order to gain a healthier and better life. One more class to go on March 7 and then everything can be submitted to the insurance. Woohoo! "If you are going to walk on thin ice, you might as well dance." ~ Unknown

DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE
shellyd88 replied to deftonestiffany's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi if he is having this unsupportive attitude now how will he behave after? if this is his general way of being its better u know now and consider this may not be a person u want in your life in the long term to quote a tv dr the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior u may have to be your own strongest ally I do know how it feels to not have anyone to count in it hurts however being unwilling to put up with ppls BS and standing up for yourself and expecting support when needed and respect always makes u stronger person we must have expectations of ppl in our lives and hold to standards or we just keep drawing these types of ppl into our lives best of luck to you -
I would think you would be ok. I had a lifting restriction and had to take off more time bc I'm a nurse and have to be able to lift/move 50lbs. Sent from my iPhone

Hi everybody! I am confirmed for gastric sleeve with Dr. Jalil Illan at Hospital BC on July 17, 2020 and plan to report my progress here to you guys to provide moral support for anyone considering such a dramatic and life-changing decision. I am terrified about having surgery outside the US, and worried about complications during or after the surgery, but have read a lot of great things about Dr. Illan. His staff have been really wonderful through my whole pre-op process so far. I had a fever last week out of the blue, but am feeling better today, and tested negative for Covid. I was worried it was a false negative, so I am scheduled to take another test tomorrow to confirm results. I asked Dr. Illan if I should reschedule due to the fever I had, and he responded that we will stay on schedule for now. I didn't have any respiratory or throat issues with my fever, so I think that may have played a hand in the decision to not reschedule yet. I am almost 50, and have battled my weight all my life. I am looking forward to having this tool to support me in life-long weight management. Wish me luck! I plan to check back in periodically to let you guys know how the surgery and recovery went, and what my new life is like. Please feel free to reach out to me here if you have any questions and I will try to respond to you as soon as I can get back to you. Good luck to everyone here on their journey to find better health and happiness!!

Is there any savings on food after surgery ?
OKCPirate replied to shaqkhi's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am spending the same, but I now go to Whole Foods and get a quarter pound of "grass fed, organic" meats. If you are going to be able to eat 3-4 ozs of something, I want it to taste really good. So it's all quality over quantity. -
Going through a sensory memory lane
Susie1226 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got sleeved on the 19th. I'm doing ok. Each day is better. A little hungry bc I'm on clear liquids until this Thursday. But I'm going through a sensory memory lane. All of a sudden I will go oh yeah I remember what (insert your favorite food here) tastes like. Anything from buffalo wings to ranch style beans to a meal at a restaurant that I might have only tried once. I'm not craving it but it just seems like my mind wants to bring up those tastes. Weird but kinda pleasant too. LOL! -
Blue Cross Blue Sheild Federal Approval
Reviewer replied to sunny2day's topic in Insurance & Financing
Congrats! I received my approval from BCBS Fed before Christmas and I'm scheduled to be sleeved 1/29. Tomorrow I go to hospital for preregistration, labs, EKG, chest X-ray initial dietary program appointment and pulmonary function test. Low carb diet starts next week and two weeks later I start the liquid diet. -
I am going for my first fill on March 1st. i keep reading about some people whos drs dont give them a fill if they are loosing weight. is that true? I am loosing weight (without a fill) but dont be fooled- its a HUGE struggle. i basically am just doing what i normally would do if i didnt have the band and i was on a diet. i am hungy and i want to eat i just dont bc i figure whats the point if i just went thru this surgery in order to get heathy. BUT now im worried now that my dr isnt gonna fill me when i go in... is it silly to think that? or could that be an issue? any and all thoughts on the situation would be appreciated especially if u have been thru something like this...

BCBS of Alabama - My Journey
Savedbygrace replied to andyisbanned's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for sharing your journey so far. I am a little upset to read from you and one other person that BCBS requires 30 days bw each visit. My policy states that I can go to a nutritionist for 7 visits and see my MD 3 times within that 6 months. I chose that route because in the long run, it was cheaper and I knew I needed the nutrionist more than just seeing my doctor every month. Well my nutritionist works closely with the physicians here in Huntsville (but I'm using a surgeon in B'ham..not that it matters lol) BUT... I started this on 8/22/07. In December, she took 2 weeks off so she moved my appt to 12/19. I questioned her about this and was told as long as we end around the same day of the month, it will be fine. If I have to start this ALL over... I will be devistated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My physician appts were more than 30 days apart but only 3 of them, as required by BCBS. Because the short month wasn't my last month (that being 2/25) I wonder if I will have to start all over or if I can just add one more month - if I HAVE to?? Any ideas? I guess I can call BC and ask. GGRRRRRR
