Hey everyone! I haven't been on here I'm quite some time. Because of that, no one knows that I used to have the lapband. Which when I had to get the revision surgery, they poked a hole in my stomach which cause me to get an abscess. 2 days after that surgery, I had to get my lapband removed. That was 9 years ago. I gained back everything I lost and right now, I'm 45 pounds over that starting weight. After that scary day, it struggled losing the weight. 2015 I tried weight watchers and joined a gym. I was 10 pounds more than i was when I got the lapband. I lost 42 pounds. My membership ended and I lost my motivation and gained it back! 2018 I tried keto. It works, but it was definitely too restrictive for me and the recipes weren't that get! Last year I was at my highest weight ever (I was 4 pounds above that this year) I tried eating the way we are supposed to be eating. I lost almost 25 pounds with portion control. I slowly lost focus, determination and I was becoming depressed because of someone I really liked. He was just crushing me. I of course gained it all back and like I said, and extra 4 pounds. It sucks! I remember coming on here saying I want to get the surgery, but everyone I told was telling me not to do it and telling me I don't need surgery to just eat healthier. I was told that everyone is scared that they will lose me and if they lose me then they'll probably lose my son. It's definitely a scary thing to think about, but you can lose me with the way I'm going now. SO, I think I said everything I wanted to say before I write what I've about to write and that is, I want to try to lose the weight before going through with surgery. If I can't lose about 85 pounds by this time next year then I will start up the process again. I know some people will tell me "surgery is the easy way out" and I know it's not any easier than losing it on your own. Now, I have a few questions. How much is everyone able to eat at each meal? What are foods you need to avoid? I'm planning on RNY, do you notice your insides being rearranged? How was your recovery?

Calories per day - 2 months post op?
ms.sss replied to Flab-U-Less Forever's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yep, i agree (for me). I didn’t get to 1200 calories per day until about 3-4 months into maintenance (which translates to about 10-11 months post op) P.S. to keep things in perspective, I’m barely 5’2” -
Oh my God I hope that’s not the case for me! 10 and a half grand I paid for this surgery, I’d be mortified if I found out my surgeon did my sleeve purposely large!! I think if I was seeing the scale move the calorie amount wouldn’t bother me, but because I’ve seen no movement in 2 weeks it’s getting me down but I’ll take ur word for it being normal and just keep plodding along, hopefully it’s a stall that will break soon! If not I will contact my practice

Painful gas after surgery
Flab-U-Less Forever replied to Vivis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My gas from the surgery (i.e. the gas they inflate you with) lasted about 3 days. My intestinal gas which is what I think you are referring to lasted about 10-14 days. It was PAINFUL! Gas-X did not help me nor did walking. It just had to work itself out. I think its your intestinal track figuring out what the heck just happened LOL. -

Hooray, I finally made it to the puréed stage! So many choices that it was hard to decide. I had 1% cottage cheese with two teaspoons of puréed pineapple. My stomach did fine, but my head got a little dizzy towards the end. Probably a blood sugar spike. It was worth it! I’m going to try refried beans (runny) with cheese for dinner. Today is three weeks from my sleeve surgery. I’ve only lost 10 pounds since my surgery, but 29 pounds overall. I can really feel the difference in my legs when we go for a walk and no more body aches. We walked a steep hill in our neighborhood yesterday and I didn’t have to stop to catch my breath. It’s weird because I look the same when I see myself in the mirror, but I feel thinner. I really thought that the weight was going to just “fall off” faster. I have to accept that this journey is going to take a while and I need to be patient.

Newly sleeved 4/28. Q’s for water
Tashrenee replied to Tashrenee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Will my pouch be able to handle more liquids at a time further out? I can only get about 3 oz of water before I start to feel water logged. And that’s drinking it 1/2-1oz, every 5 to 10 min. -

Mental inability to drink
toodlerue replied to Stephanie H.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have you tried juicing? When I juice, I use breast milk bags to freeze it. They have ounce marks on them & the are heavier then a plain Ziplock. I can make up about 9-10 bags with each juicing. I know that fresh is the best, but froze is better then canned stuff! I love carrot, cucumber & beet. When I go to a place that makes fresh juice I always get a large so that I can bring it home to freeze. You can also get unflavored protein powder & add it to the juice. -
How many stalls have you had in your journey?
Tomo replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have lost count too. My body is really weird. I have "stalled" almost every month. It ranges from 10 days to 2 weeks. The longest for me so far is 15 days. Usually the first 2 weeks of the month, then I get a big drop. My 9th month now, and I just got the 4.5 lb drop at the end of April. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Newly sleeved 4/28. Q’s for water
Tony B - NJ replied to Tashrenee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Use an app like My Fitness Pal to track all your water and food intake. I find it a little easier to get water down when you do not think about it like "I need to get 64 ounces of water down". Think if on a micro level. You are up for approximately 16 hours per day. If you avoid liquid for a half hour before and after meals, that leaves 13 hours to get down 64 ouces. that is about 5 ounces of water in a one hour period. That is less than 1 ounce every 10 minutes. You will be able to do this easily and after a while you will be able to drink 8 ounces in a very short amount of time. -
Gastric Bypass in Tijuana?
Quesodip251 replied to Ninabnina77's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I used Dr. Armenta with Renew Bariatrics in Tijuana. He’s a hottie, I ain’t gonna lie. A lot of people use Dr. Green there but he’s so popular that he’s booked up 2-3 months out. Mine was a week ago so can’t comment yet on results. I had the SASI (mini gastric bypass plus sleeve removal) Cost was $5600 but is $5800 now. Make sure you ask tons of questions of the surgeon bc the coordinators don’t know what’s going on. It was all Americans in my cohort. The hospital policy is 30+ bmi but I’m not sure if they would make an exception for a revision. Worst case scenario is you could gain 10 lbs and then have it. -
Arabesque is POINT ON with the body dysmorphia. I went from a size 24 to a size 10. I'm currently obesssed with losing another 20lbs because there are days that I *feel* 300lbs. It's definitely a mind @*$& sometimes. Something stupid... I've been in 10's for a good year now - Yesterday I went to Banana Republic and bought a pair of pants - I didn't try them on and just KNEW I was a size 12. Got them home and my husband just laughed at them falling off me. We'll probably always have some sort of mind screw if you were overweight for a long time- whether you feel like you're a size 2 or a size 20, it's just part of the journey I think.

June 2022 surgery buddies
Mariann812 replied to Jessica1024's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My Results visit from pre-procedure testing is 2 weeks from today, 5/16. My doctor said to start the LSD (liver shrinking diet) tomorrow. I’m hoping for a 6/10 or 6/13 surgery date. I’m SO ready for this! ETA: I just went into my Cigna patient account and they have received my paperwork for the Endoscopy approval and the Gastric Bypass surgery approval. They have a ‘service’ date of 5/20 which the doctor’s admin told me she was putting on the paperwork even though I am going to wait till school is out which is more like 6/9-6/13. -
How many stalls have you had in your journey?
Queen ApisM replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugh, I'm in one right now. Going on 4 weeks. It's the longest and most annoying one so far, and happened at about 8 months from surgery. I had a couple week one back in November and a few much shorter ones in between. However, I can say that while the weight is stalled this time around, I've lost inches. I'm telling myself this will pass, and maybe my body is taking time to settle in before we tackle the next 10-15 lbs. I'm just continuing to do what I have been doing, and trying not to get obsessed with it. -
March 2022 Surgery Buddies
Stephy2014 replied to LilaNicole20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll be 5 wks on Friday, iv had a few things get stuck and it's uncomfortable for about 10 min really stinks, but iv eaten eggs, bacon, sausage, shrimp, crackers, iv even had a piece of thin crust cheese pizza, iv never been regular as far as #2 goes but it's never been pure liquid since the surgery either, your esophagus may need to stretch a little more we all heal differently. But I'm sure it will get better in the coming weeks. Good luck -
How long are you missing work?
acopas replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know that it's going to suck. I'm more worried about dropping off my 3 y/o to daycare and having to climb that flight of stairs. I'm considering asking the director if I can't bring her in another entrance that is ground level that they don't typically utilize for pick-up/drop-off for the first week back. 19 year old me went through a laparoscopic gallbladder removal and was grocery shopping the same night and returned to a more physically demanding job than I have now within two-three days. When I had my first baby, I returned to work in a couple of weeks, so I think I'm either stupid or hard-headed. -

How long are you missing work?
acopas replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m having surgery on a Wednesday and plan to return the following Monday. I can work from home if necessary, but I intend to be back in the office. i will say that this is based on what my surgeon has said for my specific type of job, but also my experience with a previous abdominal surgery. I just have to remind myself that when I had my previous surgery I was 19 and now I’m double that. -
I have been walking about every other day since my surgery. I started at 10 minutes and now I’m up to 25 minutes. I graduate to PURÉED foods on Tuesday. Do you have any suggestions? Things that didn’t make you sick and were satisfying?
