I'm just about 6 months post op and am doing fantastic- I'm losing weight steadily (almost 90lbs!!), eating well, and feeling better than I have in ages. However, I live in a very small town, leaving me with very limited options. My partners like to go out to eat with friends normally once a week, but with there only being fast food joints in this town (i.e. unhealthy fried stuff), I have been having to sit at the table while they eat with only a glass of water or just completely forgo going along. It's been really isolating and making me feel super left out. They have started to eat at home more so we can all eat together, but I never realized how social food was until my options became so limited. Besides making them eat at home (I feel bad because then my girlfriend ends up having to cook all the time instead of going out to eat), I just feel like there is no way for me to participate. Does anyone else feel like their social time has been affected with surgery?

lost 4lbs gained 4lbs
JET's MOM replied to andielmt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys, This is exactly what I needed to read today. I was banded in December and have only lost 22 lbs. Yes, it is good , but not as good as I would like. I am also eating off track, it definitly is the head that needs a band along with the stomach. And another thing that is very strange is one day you can eat somthing, and the next you can not eat the exact same thing. I have found the easter candy too:cursing:!!! I really have to concentrate on eating better. And of course i can not get myself to excercise. This is such a struggle for me. It sucks. I feel that my band is working, I am just pushing it to much and therefore am not loosing anymore weight. Also for me i know that I can not wait to long to eat, or I go crazy. The thing is you still have the hunger pangs, and you feel like you have to have that and more right now!! I also eat to fast still, and take to big of bites. It is great to read these comments and get other peoples thoughts when you are food crazed:cursing:. Kep up the good work all!!!! April -

I got banded on May 7th. I'm feeling so much better. Every week is a new hurdle that I've jumped. I'm starting to eat scrambeld eggs, american cheese, string cheese, and Slim Fast. I had a can of tuna for the first time yesterday. It was so good. I'm still a little sore and I have to sleep on my back. Will I ever be able to sleep on my side again? -
Also -- Tiffykins and I disagree vigorously on this, but... you absolutely can get dumping with the sleeve. It's caused by something different (fast transit time), but the effect is the same. My surgeon specifically told me that a percentage of sleevers get dumping syndrome, and I trust him. Ask your doctor!

I will check this out, Fiddleman! I am wondering how the foot thing will affect me. The chemotherapy I had for prostate cancer left a numbness in my feet, mostly on the left side of my left foot and the big toe area of my right foot. I never could get a plausible explanation about why this happened from the docs. I think it is pretty obvious that the chemo, which attacts fast reproducing cells, damaged some nerves. I would love to find out that something could be done to make it better but it is nothing I can't live with.

Discouraged and Disappointed
cheryl1952 replied to cheryl1952's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I haven't started a fast weight loss diet yet? But I really don't eat right. Hopefully the Vitamins will solve the problems. I pray that I will be able to have the surgery. This is my last hope of getting rid of my sleep apnea. I have no energy to walk too far so I cannot exercise very long so I won't lose too much weight at this point anyway. Thanks for replying. I have had a few glasses of white wine on occasions and boy it gets me drunk pretty fast. So I am going to stop drinking for now cause feeling tipsy for long periods of time does not always feel good. And the next few days I feel very tired after drinking.

I will be 3 weeks tomorrow and realized yesterday that I forgot I had a surgery yesterday. I was out on our boat with friends and I felt so good that I forgot I was different now. No pain, no tired, no signs that anything had happened. At one point I stopped and thought, "wow,i feel great. I didnt think I ever would but wow." So hang in there, it gets better fast!

Last January I started this journey. I started to get the tests done and then part way through as we all know Covid stopped almost everything. Then in August I started getting the remainder of my tests complete. And today I scheduled my surgery! Still have a few appointments for pre op and to meet with the surgeon to discuss which procedure I will have. But as long as a resurgence of Covid doesn’t happen till next year I will be having my surgery on December 14th. Hopefully enough time to recover and feel better before Christmas and my one son’s birthday on the 30th. Still not sure how to feel. It all happened so fast after nothing happening for so long. I know the surgery will be best now as I am Pre-diabetic. Blood pressure is easily controlled by meds and I’m still relatively young at 43. For being 320 that’s really the limit of my health problems so I know it’s a good time. Plus I have 5 kids and a wife to provide for and be around for. Sorry for rambling. Just trying to process it all right now.

Exercise & Pre-op Diet
NCBanded replied to nallygirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not having all that fat, carbs etc holding me back I actually gained energy... the hunger pains are still around and I still crave something to chew (I have been on a 2 week Opti-fast liquid only diet). And the fact that I have lost 14 pounds since I started the liquid diet has helped add a bounce in my step As a side note, I get banded this Friday and am getting very, VERY nervous. -
I am the same! I'm almost 3 weeks since surgery, and have no real issues drinking thin liquids rather quickly. It is impossible for me to drink them as slowly as my Dr suggested, so rather than sip, sip, sip...I take a drink, drink, drink. Sometimes when I do drink too fast, I feel the tightness in my chest, which means stop or slow down. I've not tried gulping....the though of that is just too scary to me.

I have Aetna and mine went pretty fast. I finished all my testing and submitted the last test result to my patient advocate on Wednesday and I had my approval from my insurance the following Monday.

I read over and over about the no stretching, yet every month I seemed to be able to eat more. Finally it clicked. My stomach was healing, the swelling was going down, and scar tissue was tightening. At about 5 months, I topped out. Now at 11 months, the amount I can eat has stabilized. The amount I can eat depends on the type of food, how fast I eat, whether I drink liquids, and the time of day. However, it is fairly consistent and physically impossible to stretch. Before surgery, even though I was full, I could eat a few more bites, sneak a snack in here and there. Now when my tummy says stop. I better stop or there are significant repercussions. (Pain, slimies, and vomiting)

I kinda felt the same. But everyday get easier.. Seriously. It is a learning process. You will have ups and downs. Just try to take it one little day at a time. I do miss being able to just eat whatever I want. I do not miss feeling horrible because I am so big. I know I will be healthy and live a long life. So even when I have a bad day (like yesterday) and all I want to do is go grab some fast food and make all my hurt, anger, and anxiety go away. I can't! And I am GLAD that this sleeve keeps me from doing that. Maybe not when I'm in the moment I might cuss about it for awhile. lol But when I get on the scale and keep losing and when I have to get new clothes because my old ones don't fit I know its worth it. It will get easier. Just learn as much as you can and ask as many questions as you need to. This place is so full of people who really care and are here to help you..

How slow or different is Revision weight loss?
Christina.Rose replied to Christina.Rose's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)

I only lost about 50% of my extra weight in 2009 from my band and gained that and more back.....currently 277.....I am stressing about cutting my stomach "off" and not being able to lose quickly.....well, it will be better than now, I know, but Im nervous! Dec 16th is coming up fast! Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App -
Im really trying but this stall is getting me depressed
tia952000 replied to emr80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES....you can tell a difference..I totally agree with what everyone is saying. Slow will definately win the race, I hit my stall a week or two ago, then I went back & changed a few things like my workout, my eating habits, I absolutely LOVE ORANGE JUICE...I had to push away from that sugar & it worked. You are going to have many of stall weeks, stay focus & do your thang...You look great, the faster it falls the chances are the skin will hang so you don't want it to fall fast at all. I am now losing 2 pounds a week & I love it. Keep your head up... -
Been Givin the run around
Valentina replied to Syl 153's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Talking , talking and then doing some more talking helps---when with every talk we pick up just one little bit of information. WLS is no "walk in the park" for most of us. It is a life long journey. What is up to us is how we choose to travel down our WLS path. For me, I had to learn to listen to my sleeve. It will always guide me WHEN I take the time to listen to eat. I've learned to work WITH my sleeve and not against it. I no longer push its boundaries and therefore making it "cranky". Whenever I did that, I learned that my sleeve can be a bit vengeful, because whenever I would eat too fast or too much and made it angry, it had/has a way of "throwing it back in my face".--and right back out! Keep posting. There is always a member here to talk with. We want to hear how your journey is coming along and hopefully help you around the twists and turns. Prayers going up for you. -
a newbie in need of some support.....
flowerpot replied to shalina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am new to this board today. I was banded on December 2nd, 2006 and went thru the process myself -I even returned to work two days later. I felt no pain, didn't take any meds but seem to just be more tired at the end of the day. I decided to tell no one. Now I realize that I have to do this with people and decided to reach out to all of you for support and answers. I'm 6 days out of the operation and have not eaten any solids of course. I am beginning to get really really hungry but can't seem to keep down the Protein shakes. I have been eating the slim fast. Anyone have other ideas for me? Mostly, i just drink tea, broth and Water. When the fills start, does the hunger subside?:help: -
Another way to see this is as an adjustment period after a big loss...( here is the reason to be EXCITED about an adjustment..) its followed by another big loss. Having said that,I still freak out if it lasts too long!It just puts doubt in my mind. I've lost really fast for my age and genentics by eating real solid Proteins.Hardly ever needed a shake since I could eat. You will look at your friend, that's what we do even if we know we shouldnt. So,if you say she eats lots, how what does she eat that you dont and what does lots mean? 40 pounds in 2 months seems great to me.Will go and see where I was at 2 months out but it seems like a heck of a lot more than what some people lose. xxo

1st FILL CAUSED SHOULDER PAIN TO RETURN
HarleyGirl replied to Jeen423's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had shoulder pain after my last fill.....it lasted about three days....seems fine now. I do feel it when I eat too much or two fast, I figure it's one of those warning things for me. -
Could it be possible I dont need a fill?
tennisloverxox posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have an appointment for tuesday, I am 4 weeks (8/15)post op. I am losing weight (of course not as fast as I would like) and feel restriction at 1 cup of food(eating very healthy). I am never hungry and feel the best I have ever felt. My band was regular size and no fill what so ever. Do you think it could be possible I may never need a fill? Or at least not for 2 more weeks? Right now i am in a good way. I think I'll put it off until after my trip I will be at 6 1/2 weeks at that time. -
How long until I go back to work?
liannatx replied to nomoremeds's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Elementary teacher here! I had surgery on a Monday and went back to work the next Monday. I was more tired than anything. I was sore, but no real pain. I think I actually felt better faster by getting back into my routine, and getting out of the house and moving around. Have you had any surgeries before? I have always bounced back really fast from them, so I pretty much expected to from this one.
