  1. Good morning violets- Haydee-yes Dr L takes insurance but my consult was with a local PS and he is the one that does not take insurance. I am waiting for Dr L office to call me back to schedule a consult with him. I also am looking at Dr Cassco here locally in the Nassau Bay area. He takes insurance too. The fill I got is gonna be history today....I can not even drink water! I PBd on sugar free ice cream for goodness sake! I am calling the dr office today. I just do not consider PBing on liquid normal. I can not even ake my Chantix pill and that thing is TINY! Alot probably has to do with sinus drainage (TMI I know). I would just rather keep the amount of fill I had before and get back on the willpower wagon. Pam & Jane-loved BB last night. Chelsia made herself look like a demented little brat...I hope James is next. Laura-I am glad you are o your way to recovery. Kat-feel better soon! I better get up and head for work...my boss is just gonna love me asking him to leave again! What am I supposed to do, tube feed? lol

How was your 5:2 day today?

On another note - I think I know where my funk has come from and why it has been around so long. I am blaming hormones. As you all know, my lady hormones have put me into early menopause... well, since starting the 5:2 WOE I have seen more of my friend than I have in the last 3 years! This time she came with no warning - and without TMI she was heavy and I had cramping which I haven't had for a while! Not sure why this is happening, as I've said before, my doc told me that my ovaries have pretty much packed up! This has been going on for over 3 years - I think it probably started before my sleeve, but my weight was always a convenient excuse for the medical world to blame any bodily inconsistencies on! Can the 5:2 change hormone balances? Is this why the scales isn't being kind to me? I dunno, but it certainly explained part of the funk!

    OCTOBER 2014

@Luna222--Hey there! Missed you! I'm doing good. (If you read back a little ways, I just got engaged! Whoohoo!!) So you're still stuck?? Are you measuring too? Wondering if you're toning and losing inches? TMI Alert!!---I've been stuck at about 158-159 since I got home from vacation. But it's also been at least a week since I've really "gone to the bathroom." And I take a mild natural pill to help keep things moving and still nothing...UNTIL this morning. Whew!!! Pretty sure that scale will have moved when I weigh again tomorrow morning. Wowzers! (sorry... )

How was your 5:2 day today?

Dorrie, I am so sorry you are going through all of this. HUGS to you my friend. Nothing is TMI in this group. We are here for you when you need us. Sometimes I just come on here and type away. I get my feelings out that way. There are times people don't even comment and I'm ok with that. I just need to get it out. I'm the type also, that hides under a shell when I am upset or stressed so it's nice to be able to come here and talk to everyone. Sheryl, I don't think depression has anything to do with 5:2. I agree with what Dorrie said about it. I bet if you put up a poll on the main page of the forum that you would have 90% of the people say they suffer with this. That is if they are honest about it. I think that those of us in this group feel much more comfortable opening up to each other rather than the thousands of people plus on the main forum and that's why you see if more here. How did the appointment go? Denise, who else wants to join? Not sure what to do about that situation. Did you remove the people from the group that haven't been a part of it? I'm worried about Laura, too. I completely understand needing a break but it's not like her to even get on the forum in days. Maybe Butter knows what's going on with her, they are close. Butter are you still here reading? If so, can you let us know how Laura is? I have some exciting stats to share with you. Things have really changed for me since starting 5:2. I will share them tomorrow though because I need to get my measurements tomorrow night. Today my trainer did body fat. Exciting news to come...stay tuned... Sheryl, I train with a trainer and do hard workouts. What kind of questions do you have?

    Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Tried an enema? Not as bad as they sound... You can get a kit off eBay if your local chemist doesn't stick them. Warm tap water is fine for occasional use and they really work.. Tmi?

    OCTOBER 2014

I'm sorry for the TMI, but I'm so uncomfortable from not being able to move my bowels I have hardly been able to in about 3 days. I've been taking the colace, and still no. Today I was ok, had eggs for breakfast, my bf and I went out and about and I took a protein shake with me. I drank 4oz of it and about 15 min after my last sip I was in so much pain, right in the middle of my belly. I felt like I had to go and I felt like I had to puke. We stopped at a bathroom and I couldn't do either. Pain wasn't going away so I called the nurse line. She told me to do an enema (ew!)...soo I stopped and got one, we went home, I did it, it worked a LITTLE bit, and then I took a 3 hr nap. I woke up and the pain was gone for the most part...but I still feel blah. I'm not hungry, I'm afraid to eat. I just want water and Popsicles. Idk if it's happening from eating more foods now on puree? I was going just fine last week On a happier note, I've just realized that I have lost 40 lbs since June, and 20 since surgery 2 weeks ago. I def feel better other than the belly cramps. My arthritis isn't as bad it seems, I am able to walk up the stairs and not cry. My boyfriend looked at me today and said "wow babe, you're looking really good", which made me feel good of course. As for sex...I miss it lol. We were so excited cuz I got the ok from doc last week, and then I got my period. Next week I guess lol.

    OCTOBER 2014

So yesterday was a tough one. My bf cooked scrambled eggs and bacon, so I decided to have a piece of toast and make a little half egg sandwich. He of course thought I was making a babad choice w the toast. I tried to explain to him that my nut told me I can have toast. We got in a huge fight. Over TOAST! He eventually apologized, and I tried to explain to him that he needs to just be there for me and stop policing what I eat. I grew up in that type of environment, I definitely don't need that now, especially after thus surgery. He felt bad and took me to a movie and dinner lol. So at the movies, he had candy. I tried 2 Swedish fishes. 5 min later, my heart was racing! No nausea or anything like that, just my heart. I have a heart rate monitor on my phone, my bpm was 96! I got up and went to the bathroom, ended up dry heaving of course, and then I just sat there for a good 15 min to calm myself. It eventually subsided and I was good. My friend told me certain sweets make her bug out like that too. So weird, it was almost like I drank 5 red bulls or something lol. So we went to Applebee's after that. I ended up getting the Fiesta lime chicken breast with mashed potatoes instead of the rice it comes with. Ate a tiny bit and boxed the rest for lunch. So yummy! I'm noticing that I haven't needed my colace for a few weeks, but the last week or so, I've been getting diarrhea every day, especially in the morning. Sorry for the tmi! Just starting to worry me. As for the holiday cooking, my parents ordered a bunch of Italian stuff for Christmas day, like ziti, lasagna, sausage and peppers, eggplant parm, pasta salad, Italian bread...all stuff I can't eat! I'm kind of annoyed :-/ I'm going to have to get a ham steak or something to cook for myself with some potatoes. Gonna have to be the oddball out! Happy Holidays everyone!
  8. heartofmercury

    August surgery buddies!

Sorry is this is TMI, but yes, I had diarrhea starting post op day 3 until post op day 7. I added some benefiber in my shakes and it went away. I was expecting the opposite problem.

    June Post Ops!

This may be TMI but anyone still having problems with diarrhea? No matter what I eat or drink I'm going a few times a day. And by going I mean GOING. Ugh.
  10. Beautiful temp in southeastern Vic too! Didn't start drizzling until the evening - but we welcomed that. Dean, we'd have gladly taken some of the pi$$ing down off you, for sure! We need the rain soooooo badly, if not to dampen down fire prone areas, then at least to top up our Water tanks. That's all were on were on on the farm. Anyway, I didn't get a chance to post last weekend, and due to my living arrangements during the week didn't have access to a scale until yesterday. Today is weigh in day. So today starts week 3 of my self imposed pre-pre-op diet. I've been trying to have a couple of Protein shakes and a small meal consisting of a lean dense protein and a non-starchy veg (or 2) daily. It's been very hard this last week, and I have not made the best choices, hence I'm only down .2 kg from last weigh in, which bring me down a total of 1.7kgs since starting this 13 Jan(I think that's when I started). My surgeon is not going to be happy with me, but i am trying my best. Its hard - im hungry ALL THE TIME. And when not truly hungry, then i just want to bloody EAT. My own personal devil, Head Hunger. I see him on 30th. VSG still on for 18 Feb (had a bit of a win with personal finances....it had been looking like I might have to reschedule again, but not now. phew!). Official 2 week pre-op liquid diet will start 5 Feb. I wish I had that 2 weeks off from work as well, because I do better at home, in my controlled environment. Work stresses me out too much and I become preoccupied with food, eating, and it's just a danger zone for me. Away from work, I am FINE. But, I have to work, so am going to have to learn to manage this. There is no other way, and only I can do it. I have to change my response patterns, because work will not change. We had a late night last night and so my evening meal is uh, still "with me" (i usually weigh after doing all my business in the morning, if you know what i mean! Sorry....TMI!). I did really bad with my water intake this past week, some days only just got it all in, others lucky to get in half. Been working longer hours each day (10-12, as opposed to 8), 45 minute commute each way, and by the time I get home the last thing I want to do is exercise. Probably the exercise has been the worst - I did NONE this past week outside of body movement that takes place due to life and living! No intentional exercise,8 should say. I am still retaining some Fluid in my feet, ankles and lower calves but it is a lot better. So I will do my morning chores, see if things get moving. Things are a little slow in that department so I may have some.....build up to get rid of (again with the TMI!!) If they do get moving, re-weigh and see if it makes any difference. I'm sure it won't be much if at all, but hey. Product Reviews I've found a Protein shake that is fantastic on the calories to grams of protein ratio (a lot of WLS vloggers on YouTube say they look for things that are 1 gram of protein for every 10 calories, and less grams of carbs than protein). It's by Vitalstrength Nutriceuticals and it's called Define. Mine is the women's high protein mix; the label is black & pink with white text. I think there is a guys blend with a blue label. Anyway, I got it from Chemist Warehouse, it was on special $40 for 1kg tub. chocolate flavor, but they also have vanilla. It has 388kj/93 calories, 18.7 gr protein, 1.9 gr carbs, and 1.0 gr fibre (which makes the net carbs .9, I think?). I think that is a great ratio - more protein than kj/cal and low low carbs. It says to mix with low fat or soy milk but I do it with water. Its not the greatest taste in the world - doesn't really have much taste at all. So I added a little Stevia which helped but it just made it sweet. The texture still too watery (of course....I didn't use milk!). So I started looking for a way to improve the taste and texture, make it stay in my poor giant stretched out stomach a bit longer, which leads me to my next product...... Chobani Greek Yogurt. 2 version available: 2% fat and fat free. I went with fat free. Having had Greek yogurt in the past I'm used to it being very sour if taken plain, but this is brand is very mild (I think - I can actually eat it by itself, and I can't do that with other brands). It's slightly more expensive than other brands, BUT this has great label stats! Per 100 grams it's 241kj/58cal, 9.2 gr protein, 4.5 carbs (3.1 of which are sugars but I've read that these are not the same as say sugars found in fruit or cane sugar, something about the fermentation process changing them to not affect blood sugar the same? Will have to refresh my mind on that), and 108mg Calcium, which is so important and hard to get if you're minimizing dairy intake because of the carbs (I am). Anyway, it's got a really smooth creamy texture, reminds me of Paul's Chocolate Custard in the tub. So I mix about 1/2 cup of this yogurt into my morning and afternoon shake, and it REALLY helps. Much more satisfying because it stays with me a bit longer, and it sort of helps to bring out the choc flavor. Ok I have a food review that should suit sleevers who have been on solids for a little while - virtually sin free pizza. Its so good....even my husband, a pizza fiend thought it was awesome, and that is saying A LOT! He's usually a purist on things like pizza as in he likes a traditional base and nothing else will do. I got the recipe and instructions from one of the vloggers I watch regularly. Vsgtanya2011, post from 22 Jan 2013, titled Cheesy Garlic Cauliflower Pizza Crust. (sorry can't seem to post links from my iPad anymore...I think something's wrong with it!). You guys, this stuff is so good, the base is good enough to eat all by itself. And we did just that on the first one (made a double batch and then quartered it to make 4 different kinds of pizza (about the size of personal pan pizzas from Pizza Hut). We only made 3 because the first one we ate as it was! Probably the only downside is the salt/sodium, because you use low fat mozzarella and Parmesan (both high-ish in sodium) and then it calls for garlic salt too. The first pizza I made up, I put a single layer of shaved hot Hungarian salami from the deli on it (that was 12 grams). Some sliced mushrooms, red and green capsicum, onion, a couple of sliced green olives (small ones) and some low fat mozzarella cheese, about 20gr of the shredded stuff. OMG, absolutely BRILLIANT. And you know what? I didn't realize until we were eating it that I forgot to put on the pizza sauce! And it tasted awesome! So score! No sugar from the sauce. The next one I did the same but added the sauce (brush it on with a pastry brush to minimize the sugar) and I think I actually prefer it without the sauce. The third on ei made BBQ chicken for my hubby. It was pretty good too. I had to adjust the cooking time of both the base and the pizza by about 3 minutes longer (difference in altitude I think) but I left the temp alone (she is American, as am I, but has an Aussie husband though - so uses Farenheit, so the conversion to Celsius is about 232 degrees). I found that the olive oil on the parchment didn't do anything but keep the base a little more moist, so wasn't a thin and crispy (my fav) except around the edges, but even so, it was still Devine. Honestly, I could quite easily never have a traditional based pizza ever again. Even my husband said he'd be happy to have this any time we had pizza at home. You guys do not know how big of a statement that is!!! I almost fell off the bar stool! Lol Also, I don't have a ricer, so after I cooked my cauliflower, I put it into a wire strainer and pressed the water out using a Cereal bowl that is slightly smaller than the strainer rim and then dumped it onto a stack of paper towels (I get rolls of the stuff from work for free, so have no qualms in "wasting it" (lol) so for those of you who don't use that stuff, a couple of old tea towels or even several layers of news print would work.....if you don't mind news ink! Lol) The cauliflower doesn't really stick to it and you just fold it over press out more water and then dump it into the mixing bowl. I think that's the most important part, get out as much excess water as possible. And this stuff is versatile, if you back off the cooking time you could avoid the crispy edges and use the stuff as a wrap, or cut it into squares for sandwich "bread", if you like savory stuff. I may do some experimenting with this see what other sort of flavors I can come up with that would suitable for less savory toppings/fillings. Ok, as usual I have ran off the end of the earth with a single post so hope everyone is doing great and having an awesome long weekend. Let's go out and make it happen!
  11. This might be TMI but if I had known that just 60 pounds would make that big of a difference between good sex and hot damn great sex then I would have this sooner....Lol. I'm just saying...dont judge me. Lol

  12. Dammit:( I only lost 0.3 lbs since yesterday when a few days ago it was anywhere from 5-1.5 lbs day to day. I think I'm not getting in enough protein, that's why. THAT or it's my TIME OF THE MONTH. tmi I know. Sorry!

  13.

#wls #tmi you shut the lid on the toilet. We're you afraid it would get out???

  14.

#tmi #wls #wlsboobs my bra feels saggy and uncomfortable it's not properly hoisting. Does this mean I need a new one? Lol

  15. Tmi alert: do you ever get sores in the outer folds part of your ear? Wtf are they? Just pimples or something diff?

  16. I feel like a sponge soaked with water this weekend. Noticed it yesterday already, also today. TMI I guess but this feeling of having peed and then this strange feeling in the bladder that lasts for a while - like you still have to pee.

I went to the dr. yesterday.... he put me on Bactrum. Starting to feel better

  17. One month today I went in for sleeve surgery. One month....really?  It feels like aaaages ago.  What are the key notes in the past month:

    • being scared on the day was very real.  My surgeon and anesthetist were fabulous talking me through everything and listening to my concerns.
    • It was over before I knew it
    • Recovery from the GA was awful...the only time I have ever experienced anything like it.  12 hours later I finally came out of it properly
    • Gas pain is awful, but easily remedied by walking
    • Walking isn't as scary and painful as I thought, and I didn't get light headed at all
    • My water bottle has become my best friend.  I bought some new ones, one in particular with Llamas all over it 🙂
    • My husband won't let me get a pair of Llamas....dammit
    • Following my dietician and surgeons guidelines WORKS!  It really does
    • Scars on my belly are minimal due to using specific scar gel, helps healing and reduces scarring
    • If I have eaten too quickly, the best way to manage the discomfort is to stand up, or sit upright, and wait.....wait wait wait.  20 minutes later the discomfort has gone
    • Don't be scared to move to the next phase, just tiny tiny bites and don't drink with your meal
    • I have learned to really listen to my body.  Eat for satisfaction, not to be full.  The best advice I have been given
    • Don't forget multivitamins, it really does have an impact on fatigue
    • Try not to weigh daily, thought it's tempting
    • Scales are not always an indication of body change - TAKE PHOTOS!
    • My skin is quite dry, and it's loving the attention I am giving it.  Lots of moisturiser and my tan is the best it's ever been.  Not sure what the correlation is, but I haven't burned at all, just nicely browned
    • I had an initial breakout of rosacea on my face, but that is likely to be from the shock of surgery and much less food than usual.  It cleared up after a week or two and now my skin on my face is just lovely!
    • NEVER EVER trust a fart.  Not in the early days.
    • Constipation is real, coloxyl is the solution for me.
    • You don't poop anywhere near the volume you consume, I guess most of it is liquid and mushy anyway so no solids formed.   TMI I know, does anyone else miss a decent poop?  🙂

One month and I can say I feel 100% IF I STAY WITHIN MY LIMITS.  Last night we had Chinese takeaways/takeout for the first time, I had a small wonton soup (I know our local Chinese cook, they are very very healthy with their cooking methods).  I sipped away at the liquid and had a wonton.  It was so delicious that I had a second one...bad move.  Felt bloated, a little uncomfortable and had to stand up for a while.  If I had just had the one, all good.

I hope this sort of information helps others.  The nearly 13kgs I have lost has had an enormous impact on my life.  I don't huff and puff putting on my undies, clothes I haven't worn for years now fit me - just.  I can cross my legs comfortably, my back pain has gone completely...and I mean 100% goneski!!  I can cross my arms and they sit under my boobs, not on top of my bloated liver and stomach.  I bought my first bikini online.  It arrived, looks great (to me and hubby) and I feel comfortable in it at home.  I have another 17kgs to go, but I'm ok with taking it slowly.

    🙂

Us shovelers....I love it 🙂 You've made my Friday!

I'm so happy I haven't been a chucker. I hate the thought of vomiting and it was a bit of a concern of mine regarding the surgery.

I am a three meal a day girl, don't really like snacking. Been told I have to because I'm not eating anywhere near enough....it's either a feast or a famine right...ha get it! That's PUNNY.....

I think I have had one too many coffees....

  18. Yesterday was my post op check up with the surgeon and it went well.  He is happy with my progress and I don't need to see him for 6 months.  I'm at day 17 post op and the only real issue I have had is severe constipation.  Warning, TMI coming up.....

So I have been number twos three times since surgery.  Twice it was tiny, third time was just an absolute crisis.  Crying, sweating, it was right there....just so horribly hard and dry.  I had to get pessaries and take Coloxyl.  Holy crap (pardon the pun) when she finally made it through, she was a stubby whopper.  I drink 2 litres a day, I have stopped taking the protein powder and don't take huge amounts of multi vitamins.  I am on puree now so having weetbix (an Australian/NZ breakfast biscuit) and veges for lunch and dinner.  I am going to look for some tea that helps with the issue, I simply can't go through that again.  It was two days ago and I still feel bruised.   I am not exercising much so will need to increase that too, I just don't want to be taking laxatives as a habit.

Aside from that my only bug bear is the draw to the scales every day.  I'm going to get my hubby to remove them and hide them from me and only weigh once a week to ensure I'm staying on track.  I'm still seeing losses all the time, but I'm becoming so focused on that I forget that the scales are only one part of the journey, my wellbeing is the other.

My son and his fiance are coming up from Melbourne this weekend and arrive tomorrow.  I haven't seen them both since Covid and I've missed them terribly.  I have some fun things organised, but I just can't wait to hug my first born and tell him how much I love him.

    Happy Friday-eve from down under.

I had a very similar experience. Twice. It was awful and a bit traumatizing, frankly. I thought I was going to have to take Miralax everyday for the rest of my life, but I can happily say that being 5.5 months out, things are fairly regular and I haven't had to take Miralax in over a month. I always make sure to get plenty of water, which has helped. Exercise will definitely help you in that department, too. Even just getting a walk in everyday will be good for your bowels. :)

Wish you the best on your journey!

  19. Hey Diva. I feeling good, thanks for asking. My incisions are looking good and I can drink all of my fluids and and get my protein in. Really the only problem I see is and maybe this is TMI, but my bowels movement are not what they are suppose to be. I've been on mushies since my second week and I'm almost 5 weeks now. I am just not regular, so I might have to call my surgeon for advice.

    How are you doing?

    Deb

  20. YAY so I got banded yesterday 9/10 - so far I've had a cup of ice water at the hospital and 46g protein in the form of Nectar (from Vitamin Shoppe) mixed with 16oz water. I bought the Fuzzy Navel flavor and its really not too bad (a nice change from two weeks on vanilla, strawberry and chocolate Slimfast!) I like that each scoop of Nectar is a whopping 23g of protein and only 90 calories!

So far minimal pain and discomfort (probably a 3 on a scale of 1-10). I took some pain meds before bed last night to ensure I got a good nights sleep but honestly didnt need it. Ive had minimal gas pains in my shoulders and neck - thats possibly cos all i did after getting home from the hospital is walk around and burp lol TMI.

So far so good and having the band doesn't really 'feel' much different (yet).

I weighed 288.6lb before starting the 2 week pre-op diet and yesterday weighed in at 275lb before surgery - a nice jumpstart!

  21. day 3 after surgery....i know this is probably TMI but i have diarreah. Called Dr Gee and he told me its natural bc of the antibiotics to take some emodium and said to move onto the next stage of eating. So I started with the protein shakes today and plain yogurt.... Feel sick and feverish though....if i feel worse i will be seen tomorrow at the SD clinic....I'm supposed to start back at work tomorrow, but will be taking an extra day to recover....

  22. Hello!

I hope you are better! I am doing fine. I had a bad bout with constipation but now I am taking metamucil, so things are working well again. Down 33lbs! I am going to post pictures tomorrow. I am a little bloated because of my period, I know, TMI!! LOL

  23. I, too, am back at work today. I'm feeling good. I am doing my best to not let anyone know I had any surgery so I'm pretending to not be in any pain and if I have to release gas I just go to the restroom. Is that TMI? Haha. Hope all goes well now that you're back at work.

  24. I am not but My fiancee is, he plays guitar. Yeah I heard about that, the slow down, I don't own a scale (yet) but I have a doctors appt in about an hour so I know she'll weigh me. Probably TMI but I think during my surgury because of the pressure on the abdomin my IUD shifted, so I have to see the gyno (Probably MORE TMI but the hunny said he can feel it, and I got my period 2 days after surgery for the 2nd time this month) so it's basically an emergency appt. Yeah My friend is an art teacher and tells everyone she has the coolest job in the world. I am a music junky. have been involved since I was 14 (R.I.P CBGB'S)

@packerfan I got the grape also. I am told it's best to mix it with something so I'm going to mix it with a grape flavored Powerade. @UnRuLy why was it the worst?
