Pureed or blenderized food ideas
gomezk2 replied to lauratro's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have done oatmeal with low carb high protein milk. Then add a scoop of either flavored protein or unflavored.. You can also do a mix of beans, mild cheddar cheese, cottage cheese, a touch of light sour cream and even add some chipotle sauce to add a little kick.. also do chicken with sourcream and some chipotle. I understand you completely as i was also getting fed up eating the same things over and over -
So I am 10 days out (which I know isn't far out) and I am in more pain now, then when I was in the hospital. I saw my Dr today and he said it's normal. I can only walk a little at a time and standing after a min or 2 it feels like someone is stabbing with a sharp heated knife. I have to find my breathe and I get lightheaded. I have a very high pain tolerance so to me maybe something is wrong. I think the fact he acted like I was seeking pain meds pissed me off the most. I told him I am almost out of pain meds he gave me, just to show that I have had to take them due to the pain. I didn't want more even told him so. My dad was with me and he was very upset with the way I was being treated. He even stood up and told him the amount of pain I was in bc he clearly wasn't listening to me. My dad asked what else I could take bc I don't want the pain killers. Then the Dr said that he isn't going to write me a new script and just take Tylenol. He must have said I am not writing you a new script 3 times. I was in tears when I got out to the car. All I wanted was to make sure everything is ok. I was fine with Tylenol. He was just so rude and didn't want to listen to what I was saying. All he did was push on 2 spots on my stomach. I am worried about it and have the right to ask about it and tell him what I have or haven't been able to do. I hope things go better at my next 1 month follow up. Has anyone else been in a lot of pain (not due to gas pain) but actual muscle pain? If so what did you do to help with the pain? I am willing to try anything. I am not regretting it yet but if this pain keeps up I don't know what my thoughts would be.

@littlelizzylilliput-you made my day!!! I can so relate bc, event though I have just started my journey, sleeved 8/7, I am already feeling better about myself and cannot wait to reconnect with old friends! I literally fell off the face of the earth socially bc I was so ashamed of how large I had gotten. Reading your post warmed my heart! By the time this started happening I would be starving. I am not and don't plan to be any time soon...lol.. I know we can become fat adapted and burn fat for fuel while running. I have read up on some of that. I run in the morning so that I will burn fat and that is why I run slow most of the time. However, I have no further desire to eat a low carb diet. Burning carbs for fuel is a natural process that our bodies were designed to do. So I'll just let my body keep doing what it is doing well. If I ever have a problem again with my BS then I'll reevaluate.

NOVEMBER SLEEVERS! HOW MUCH HAVE YOU LOST SINCE NOVEMBER SLEEVE SURGERY AND HOW DID YOU LOST ALL WEIGHT! Thank you

5'11" female HW 303 SW 295.5 on 11/14/16 CW 200.6 (so close to ONE-derland!!!!) GW 170... I'm only losing about 5 lb/month so I doubt I'll hit that by surgery anniversary. I'm ok with that though bc I'm sticking to the plan with protein, water, low carbs...i know I'll get there!! -
Coyote, I think that most nutritionists are well versed in diets based around meat as the main protein source. I think these are the nutritionists that work closely with bariatric patients. Low carb/keto diets generally are responsible for the fastest weight loss. It is not uncommon to lose 7 pounds per week on these diets. The goal for bariatric patients is to lose weight as safely, but as quickly as possible to stabilize whatever ailments or conditions that they are experiencing. Let's face it....A high carb, low fat diet is effective for weight loss, but it isn't as quick. Add to that, French fries, potato chips, and CANDY are all vegetarian foods. A lot of vegetarians (myself included in the past) eat highly processed foods that aren't healthy, and don't contribute to weight loss. I have met several overweight and obese vegetarians in my lifetime. If it is done correctly, meaning no or minimally processed foods and sugar laden foods, it can be a very successful diet for a lifetime. I have never been able to stay on a diet for more than a few months, but I was a vegetarian for a little over 3 years. The only reason that I left it was because I was unhappy at still being over 260 pounds. This was because I ate a lot of the wrong things. I should have been happy that my levels were all excellent, but I focused on weight instead. One thing that sticks with me though......My uncle died 2 years ago of brain cancer. He was about 6'0", and 175 pounds when he was diagnosed at 55 years old. We thought he was very healthy. He was a hunter, and heavy meat and cheese eater. One day, he started just getting tired, which was the reason he reached out to his doctor. Anyway, to make a long story short...He had stage 4 brain cancer. MD Anderson in Houston urged him to give up the meat, cheese, milk products and processed foods. They wanted him to do a plant based diet. He was told that he only had 2-3 months to live. On this diet, his tumor started to decrease. He made it another 2 years before he succumbed to the disease. He was tired of fighting, and so he stopped. I asked my aunt why they gave him the plant based diet to follow in the first place. She told me that they told her that the fat and sugar in his diet fed cancer cells. I don't know if this is a fact since this was 1 doctor that said that, but he is a highly respected surgeon at MD Anderson, so I have to take his word for it. I would listen to your nutritionist in the short term, because your life is in their hands. After you are out of the danger zone, I would do whatever you feel is best for you. I know I will.

Hiatal hernia & sleeve surgery. It's GOT to hurt worse?!
Allie589 replied to Aginn10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had both too. My hernia was massive-I had no idea! I thought the constant chest pains and tightness of breath was bc I was fat. Omg, guess I was wrong. I had a twin pregnancy go to full term with 7lb 5 ounce babies so I think that had something to do with it! According to UNC medical school website, the hiatal hernia repair healing period is about 6-8 weeks and sound just like our sleeve healing repair period. We may experience a little more tightness bc the esophagus is swollen. My surgeon said I may have more soreness bc of the repair but should be all good by 6-8 weeks out. Here's hoping! I'm 4 weeks out . 5'7 Sleeved 8/7 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 235 At 2 week post op GW: 150 -

4'11", 200lbs - am I a good candidate?
Callisto replied to KaiserKid's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 4'11, 185 pounds BMI 37. I might not have a very high BMI but my co-morbidities tell the story of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease...I am sure I am forgetting something. I should have never waited so long to do this, honestly. If I was 300 pounds, I would be a dead woman, I am sure of it. I am a walking stroke. You are young, do this while you can. Medication Absorption Question Post RNY (accidental cross-post)
FluffyChix posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
(I accidentally posted this question to the wrong board--it should have been here, not in the complications board! Derp!) Hi guys. Can you help me brainstorm a medication "hack" please? I need to try to maximize the amount of time in my potential new "tummy." I know when we have RNY our "tummys" are MUCH smaller and we also have shorter duodenums. I'm taking an anti-cancer drug that is highly dissolvable/highly permeable (BCS Class 1) and is very quickly absorbed in the tummy and intestines, but it is a fat soluble drug rather than a Water absorbable drug. I know it isn't dependent on the pH environment for absorption. So my goal would be to get my drug to "hang out" in my stomach as long as possible. So to me, that would mean, I should probably take it with dense Protein, once I've healed to the point of being able to eat dense protein. But in the short term when I'm able to eat things like yogurt, ricotta, and cottage cheese, what do you think is the one food that I could "take a bite of" to get the pill swallowed that will stay in my pouch the longest amount of time (anti-slider food)--which is why I don't want to swallow the pill with water or other liquids? The drug I'm trying to max out on tummy time is letrozole (Femara) and is a tiny orange pill that is not enteric coated nor extended release. -

Hey sleeve twin!! Yeah, got a little overzealous with my excitement yesterday. Woke up today, took a sip of water and am now totally nauseated and the thought of eating sounds awful. [emoji20] I haven't started exercising yet other than walking because I can't get enough water in to do the workouts that I used to do pre surgery (so loved being the heaviest one in there[emoji849]), and I am terrified of throwing up mid class. I don't have a scale at the house bc I know myself and I'll obsess, like to the point of weighing multiple times a day, but I think I've hit a stall. I'm sure it's from not getting enough water and calories in. I've read so many people hitting stalls and were able to get it moving again by upping water and calories but I am fighting water daily. I haven't been weighed since my two week post op but have another md appointment in 3 weeks so I'll know my weight then. How has your loss been? Any suggestions on what you can eat that seems to sit well? I love the cauliflower pizza idea. I've seen those already done at the grocery store. I'll grab one this week. Best way to Stop Losing Weight

Best way to Stop Losing Weight
Apple1 replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is a very good point. I always pair my berries with 4oz of yogurt which has some protein and fat. Honestly, I am amazed at how well my body processes carbs now. In the past if I ate say one baked potato, my BS would remain elevated for 3-4 hours and the rise was unacceptable 40-60 pts. Now I can eat basically anything and my bs behaves like a non-diabetic. I don't eat junk though, no way am I going down that road, but a serving of whole wheat pasta does not spike my BS and this is such a change for me. -

Day 4 pre op Went out last night to my sister's birthday party and packed my protein shake, crystal light, and made my cream of mushroom. I ate my soup quietly and the only ppl that noticed were my table mates. My bff and immediate family already knows amd when I told my cousin I was on a liquid diet she left it at that. I didn't want to bring attention to myself at my sister's big day and everything worked out, my family and true friends are very understanding bc they have seen me go from the skinniest to the heaviest sister in almost 20 yrs. The food I brought was enough to last me the entire party. However I went to bed with a tickle in my throat and woke with a tingle in my sinus. Really hoping it's not a cold. I will be drinking a lot of tea today. My youngest woke with a runny nise and he's my allergy kid so it might just be allergies (hope.) Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app

if my a1c is high will my doc still operate?
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to angyplus5's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
My hubby had to get his A1C down to a 7 before they would do surgery on him. But with his 1st surgery, his Lap Band removed and a failed surgery to a RNY. That Surgeon never said anything about his Blood Sugars. So it really depends on who you are going to. They also wanted him to lose 15#'s. Which when he did get his BS under control his weigfht would go up and then when he had his weight going his BS went up. The poor guy couldn't win. He finally went to Mexico. This was in 2013 to 2016, Finally he had the Sleeve. It wasn't what he wanted but that is the one they could do. -

Hang in there! Pain meds combined with all the gas they fill us with creates all sorts of odd sensations. Head hunger sucks and came back really early for me too. You'll feel more satiated when you can have shakes. Hang in there! The first week is tough bc you're having all these new feelings, mentally and physically plus narcotics are involved! You got this!! Well, it'll be 4 weeks for me on Monday, and I officially cannot eat. Tried a soft scrambled egg, got through two bites. Tried a super soft, ripe avocado, cldnt even get two teaspoons down. Even made the ricotta bake, nope. Just turning me off. I need to drink more water but it has to be super cold or I get nauseated. I'm terrified weight loss will stall bc of this. I've read how getting calories up to close to 1000 and staying hydrated is key but I just can't. Protein shakes cooling in the fridge so my goal is two today. I guess I'll just keep drinking my bariatric hot chocolate made with milk, despite it being over 100 degrees here today and my protein waters. I want to get my nutrients from whole, real foods but I just can't. Never thought I'd complain about not being able to eat but am terrified of my hair falling out bc of poor nutrition. ☹️[emoji20] 5'7 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 235 At 2 week post op GW: 150 Fantasy GW: 135 Sleeved 8/7

Passed Out a few Seconds - dumping syndrome?
e0marina posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a rich dinner that I should have avoided that was too many carbs. 30 mins later I started to get fuzzy vision and black out / faint. No diarrhea or vomiting (that said, I'd had diarrhea earlier and had taken Imodium). Has anyone on here ever passed out / blacked out bc of dumping syndrome? I also had the sweats. -
I have been having a really rough time on the liquid diet part hopefully next Thursday I can go on puréed foods. I am also getting down because people make me feel like I will never eat again. I have been craving sushi like crazy and a few people said well keep craving it cause you will never eat that again. I mean why be so cruel. I hope I can def eat sushi after surgery. Some people say oh well you have to wait at least 2 years to eat sushi. It's making me feel like I have to defend myself all the time. My family is super supportive and always tell me I will eat my favorite foods again it's just a matter of time. Other people make it seem like I have committed myself to a death sentence. Are these people right? Will I be able to eat sushi in a few month or years or never. I'm just getting so fed up. I also love pasta and rice and they make it seem like well that's off the menu forever. I don't want to eat it always but knowing every once in a while I can have it makes me feel better.

@DakiniNo odors at all. Shower with deodorant soap and then use deodorant. I sweat much less bc I'm not carrying the extra weight. Definitely stool and gas odors so I'm very careful what I eat in public and carry certain sprays (I've tested a ton of them) to deal with it. You learn what to eat & when and then it's manageable. It hasn't hindered me at all. No one knows I've had WLS.

I know I'm full right now bc I can feel my stomach is a bit uncomfortable (I only ate me alloyed portion-I didn't overeat), but I still feel hungry in my guy. Someone, anyone, help me! Also-side note, I just finished a workout.
