My handbook, every YouTube video, every blog states that it should take 30mins to finish a meal. However, I'm finding that I'm eating faster than that & I feel fine. No stomach aches, no dumping etc. (maybe it's bc I'm still in the soft food stage) How long has it been since your surgery & how long does it take you to finish a meal? Do you find certain foods take longer to eat than others? If so which ones.

I don't know why but I'm kind of nervous to eat fruit. I focus so much on my macros that I don't want to throw them off with a carb loaded food item. BUT I'm fully aware it's irrational bc a portion of fruit will always be healthy to eat. I just need to get over it.

Low BMI obesity gastric sleeve option
qtdoll replied to William Weston's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got my surgery done at 200lbs because of thyroid & PCOS issues. Since you have certain conditions, it can get approved! & I don't regret it one bit. Also, my family thought it was a waste & an easy way out until I sat them down & went over ALL the lifestyle changes I've had to make pre & post op. They eat rather healthy & even they admit they couldn't do it bc of all the work that goes into it. People think you get it done & you deflate like a balloon. But nope, hard work still wins in this case. Maybe you can sit your wife down & go over everything, she may understand! -
(Bump bc I don't wanna make a new thread) I mentally prepared myself for my 3 week stall, but bc I had to stop taking birth control to avoid blood clots, my period also came at the exact same time week 3 started. Not only did i stall, but I have a ton of water weight, so I 'gained' a bit. Luckily I know what's going on& i know that's gonna go away & so I don't feel too bad about it, but MAN your first stall is really a bummer. I just gotta keep going

Hi ladies. Any updates? I ask bc I’m kind of starting to panic. I have regular periods, and I’m now 2 weeks late, and I’m 5 weeks post opp. I do ovulation tracking with sticks and so far no LH surge has been detected. I also have taken 2 pregnancy tests and they’re negative. I don’t feel pregnant (I could tell with my child before before even testing) but I’m still nervous. We do want to add a baby in the future but not unless and before the weight stabilizes. I really hope it is the Hormonal changes from the surgery.

September surgery buddies!!
Garfield1987 replied to Slwhurst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hit my 1 month today. I’m down 8.7 lbs since surgery, almost 27 from sept 5 when I started my preop diet. I started at 220 and I’m at 193.3. Last week I hit the stall and it was starting to be discouraging and then boom more drop. I was cleared to work out so I have been back in my peloton. I want to go biking outside while the weather is still nice but I’m still afraid of getting hurt. My incisions have healed and I started using a scar remover to try to lighten the scar. My family has noticed my weight loss as have my coworkers. My clothes are starting to actually fit me, instead of being so tight. I also took my kid to an amusement park and was able to walk the whole day- 15,000 steps and while I was exhausted, my knees didn’t swell up and my feet didn’t give out as they would have 27 lbs ago. I’m having challenges in learning what satisfied feels like. I’ve been basically either hungry or just stuffed. The only thing I’ve been asked not to eat is a salad so I have been prioritizing eating the protein in my plate. My partner made my favorite- rice and lentils with chicken- and I couldn’t even get a bite of the lentils in- the chicken was the priority and it kept me full for hours. My biggest struggle right now is eating slowly. I eat on the go- I’m working consistently and eat at my desk (im a lawyer) so it is hard to find the time to eat a meal for 30 minutes 3 times a day. I think once I get to do this, then maybr I’ll learn the difference and learning when I am satisfied. I’m still struggling with Water intake- it’s hard to take small sips and get through 64 ounces bc I’m busy. And big gulps are just a no no. Getting there though. Today my therapist asked if I had made the right decision. I told her yes. I believe the surgery saved my life and quality of life. I was down a spiral and would have easily found myself heavier, more depressed and with pain everywhere. My chest pains are gone; my joint pain is gone, and while I am exhausted (more due to long days and I think less due to surgery), I know that my quality of life is improving. All in all, not bad for a month ;) -

Congratulations on all your progress, that’s amazing!! I am officially 4 weeks out and can’t complain bc I’ve had very few issues. I also have one incision that is healing slow so that made me feel better to read that. My energy has improved this week and I’ve been doing IV vitamins to help. The one thing that has been disappointing is how slowly I’m losing - i was expecting to be down at least 20+ by now. I haven’t had much energy to workout or exercise so that could be it - if anyone has any feedback I’d love to hear. This group has been amazing so hopefully we keep it up! -
Question for the ladies
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Rachael101's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’ve gained about 30th lbs from my lowest weight (had just recovered from a bowel resection due to a hernia) and depression eating the past 6 months since my dad passed away. But I’m finally getting back into healthier eating and the depression weight is coming off pretty easy. Depo is definitely dependent on the person. Estrogen based BC made my periods worse (period related anemia) and for me no periods is a godsend. -
Just went to the surgeon for a hiatal hernia and he recommends gastric bypass
Kelseydawn posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I just went to a general surgeon for a clinic visit bc I have a hiatal hernia and he recommended I have gastric bypass. My BMI is 44 and he said he couldn’t repair my hiatal hernia unless I did the weight loss surgery. I’m waiting for their office to call me to tell me if my insurance will cover it. I’m hopeful that I will be able to get it done and lose weight and get healthy. Does anyone have any thoughts on gastric bypass? I downloaded an audiobook about it and the author said he made this website so I joined. -
SCAM ALERT: Tijuana Coordinators BILL YANEZ or STACY ECKEL
Alex Brecher posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I just received multiple reports from patients who sent deposits or paid in full for surgeries in Tijuana to patient coordinators named Bill Yanez and Stacy Eckel. They're currently working as coordinators for Dr. Ramos Kelly and other bariatric surgeons in Tijuana. The patients have all lost their deposits or the amount they paid for their surgeries. Bill Yanez and Stacy Eckel have pocketed these funds, have not given them to the surgeons, and are refusing to refund the patients. This is not the first time Bill Yanez and Stacy Eckel have embezzled money. They stole hundreds of thousands from me while working as coordinators at BariatricPal Hospital/BC Hospital. If these two thieves have fleeced you, please report them to your local authorities and the FBI. This will catch up to them one day... -
How to manage menstrual pain post surgery?
ShoppGirl replied to Aliana Wood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update about back pain. Unfortunately my sciatic issue came back so I called and tt someone at my surgeons office. They said that the injections are okay and that they can prescribe narcotics if necessary. Well I went back and got the injections but they really didn’t help much at all. And I asked about the narcotics but they said they don’t prescribe them for back pain. Anyways, I have an appointment Wednesday with my family doctor. I will be asking about this for sure. Seems like our surgeon would be able to prescribe a small amount for pain but I guess they don’t want to get into that business. The surgeons office did tell me that I could because I’m a year and a half out take NSAID’s on occasion as long as I take the heartburn medicine with them and food if it was the only answer. I just don’t see why I should take the risk associated with that just cause they are afraid I have an addiction that I must not have because I have taken narcotics in the past without any issues. I’m not sure which risk is the lesser evil. I’m hoping by Wednesday I will have gotten through the worst of this by just staying in bed on the heating pad during day and with the icy hot patch at night but of course long term bed rest can’t be a solution for this if it’s a chronic thing. Ooh. I also got those thermacare heat things to try which I am not well enough to be up and about yet but I noticed they have them for menstrual pain too. Not sure if anyone Has tried those but heating pad always helped me some before BC when my periods were bad so it’s definitely worth a try. -
This. I fit this pattern to a T. I am 14 months out. I'm working out hard, tracking calories, and have dropped into the 4-5 bs a month range. The fast loss is only at the very beginning for most people, and will slow down. You will have stalls and it will be frustrating unless you are someone very lucky. This is a long game, not a quick fix by any means.

I have avoided restaurants bc it’s Just easier to stay focused at home. I do find that without eating my feelings, I’m having to learn to handle stress and other emotions without food. That makes me feel things in a deeper way so there have been a lot of emotions - not sure if that helps but good luck, you got this! -
14 days post op & COVID positive
TheLosingGame posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a feeling this would happen! Somehow made it the entire pandemic without covid and tested positive while in recovery from surgery. I had no idea I had it the first 2 days bc I thought i was dealing with symptoms of dehydration and struggling with hitting my protein goals for a couple days. Turns out it’s covid. anybody gone through the same? have any tips on getting through this when you already feel a bit tired and weak? I’ve already called my doctor and got advised on which medicines/relief I may take that won’t interfere with my post-op medicine regime -

i weigh daily. for now at least. i wanted to be able to analyze the data and see trends especially as it relates to stalls. i’m in a stall right now and even “gained” a pound yesterday. i just try not to obsess about the daily bc it’s an overall downward trend when i look at the weekly. i’ll probably stop weighing daily once i get to a month -

Oh really?! That makes sense bc i went to doc today and he didnt even comment on my weight loss - you are so right, I shouldnt get wrapped up in it, but its hard lol. Thank you for the kind words, this is a journey -
I have been planning for this stage for a long time. I daily drink one of my 32 ounces with a grass-fed collagen and take a real food vitamin C with it. The vitamin helps to get the best benefit from the collagen. My massage therapist has been massage my scalp and stimulate the hair roots to keep a good blood flow supply. So far, so good, I have not loss much of my hair. When I was on strict keto several years ago, I lost a lot of hair then and it regrew. I did a lot of research and am hoping these extra actions will help curb some of the lost this time around.

What made you decide to have a WLS?
omrhsn posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi. I know that we all had our different reasons for having WLS. I did it because I was fed up with yo-yo dieting. I was on-off Keto diet for over two years. I've lost some weight and gained it all back in the end. The longest I've stayed on diet was 5 months and that paid off really well (lost 25 kg). But then Covid-19 hit. I was about to go back to Keto diet in January 22 when my sister called to tell me she was going for the mini gastric bypass. That was the first time time I've heard of it. Fast forward three weeks and I'm on the plane flying to Egypt to have mine. My "breaking point" was finally going back to work in the office and having to remove the arm rests of my office chair because it somehow "shrunk" and was squeezing my thighs. How about you? What made you decide to have the surgery and what was the breaking point? -
Feeling defeated 10 months post op
Arabesque replied to ASteff's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So sorry you are experiencing this. Your PCOS is the likely suspect or at least a contributing factor to your struggles. Also check your medications. Many common meds are renown for resulting in weight gain. There is not one diet/way of eating that works for everyone. So your nutritionist saying you eat healthily & gave you no other help is pretty poor. Like @Sunnyway, I made changes to what I eat. I did lots of reading. And as I was slowly introducing foods back into my diet, there were some I didn’t start eating again, some I started & dropped again. I really listened to my body & what it needed. There are foods/food types I avoid, others I restrict or reduce my intake. Much like @Sunnyway, I cut out a lot of added sugar, artificial sweeteners & sugar alternatives (so no desserts, cakes, biscuits, sweets, etc.), little starch (no potatoes, bread, rice or pasta). General keep to fairly low processed foods prepping most of what I eat myself which allows me to control the ingredients & how it’s cooked. I eat some carbs - about 2 serves a day but whole or multi grains. But I found this is what works for me. I feel better: no bloating, less gas, more even energy levels, etc. Don’t really miss anything. Eating this way works for me. It may not work for you. Question the nutritionist further - they are there to help you. You may benefit from a eating plan that incorporates aspects of anti inflammation diet, or to reduce foods naturally high in hormones (soy products, lot fed beef & chicken, etc.) There may be additives in more processed foods that are fighting your ability to lose weight too.* Again the nutritionalist should be able to advise you. *- Watched a great documentary earlier this year which showed that a high processed food diet actually increases the hunger hormone in your body & decreases the hormone that tells you you’ve had enough. Gracious knows what they do to your other hormones. -
I went to my final pre-op appointment yesterday. Was nervous about being delayed bc the weight was up a few pounds but I was approved at all stops (surgeon, labs, anesthesiologist) to move forward! I’ll be the first case of the day on my surgery date too which is nice, the only procedure that’ll be done on time that day as they said lol. Been on my liquid diet for a few days and I’ve been doing all right with it, hope to get in every last bit of weight loss I can.

I think your good? They told me to leave my meds and vitamins at home bc they'd just use theirs but if they didn't tell you that then I guess it's better safe than sorry. Just remember you'll have to keep all your stuff together during all the transfers, unless someone is there to keep your bag till you're in recovery. I just brought a phone charger, a stuffed dinosaur, my glasses case, an belly binder, and spare undies. My aunt brought my kindle later but that was the last thing on my mind, ditto with my phone, I only used it to tell the time. I wore slides so I wouldn't have to worry about bending over for shoes. -
Gall Bladder problems After VSG?
Notyourauntie replied to Crisscat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My bariatric surg was 8/8/22 5’6 highest weight after 4 kids (2,4,7,9) and a challenging relationship with their dad for 14 years. Down maybe 30lbs by now. When I was told on 9/12 I had a 26lb weight loss and told my GB had a stone so 10/3 is my surgery. It came to surface bc my pcp needed a f/up mri from a pancreatic cyst and Found excess Fluid in my stomachs. my surgeon said normal but not my gallbladder even the cyst is normal. Worse part is my mother and auntie both very judge mental and critical told me to pray. My mom said “People Get addicted to Surgery, not bc you feel better Eventually but bc the anesthesia😳😒) this being a Med necessity! But I’m so tired of the non support I’d honestly threw in the towel recently. -
Food Before and After Photos
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Speaking of grocery shopping- This week sales were items I usually buy a lot of so I spent $138US instead of my ideal budget of $110. I saved $144US with sales, multiple pickup order promos (4 pickup orders saved me an extra $20!), and coupons. The chef boyardee is purely for when kids need fed and I have low functioning days. Oh, the meal plan for this week (which I dated for tomorrow 🤦♀️) And my kids have already eaten 1/2 a container of grapes, 4 apples and a mandarin orange. 😒 -
We are both in our mid 50's and have had issues with blood pressure and other health negatives. Didn't have the energy to do a whole lot especially with the grandbabies(13 of them). I weighed in at 298 and my wife 265 and had spoken with a doctor about the sleeve surgery. So after several months of testing and pre-diet her packet hit the office first so she went first. I had mine 3wks after hers. We were lucky that my wife works for the hospital and have a team to fall back on and we were fed up with diet regimens and pills that weren't working. I almost backed out after I had lost 20lbs in the pre-diet phase but I knew If i had gotten it done I would've fallen back into the bad foods. So here we are and its now been nearly a month and a half for me 2 for her. Im at 229, shes at 219. We have allot more energy, we dont obsess over food as we once did and are full faster. The Dr didnt lie about that part. lol. My older daughters don't hardly recognize me from my jolly Santa look I had when i laughed(like a bowl full..you get it). Its hard not to promote the surgery for others when the health benefits this has given us. I would recommend If you are deciding on this to do your homework. Don't run for the border without consulting a local physician. Support is Very important. And Plan to Plan out everything you want to eat. there are great substitutions.

Birth control and gastric bypass
BAA624 replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was just having this conversation with my sister the other day. I find it really interesting when it comes to ideas about bariatric surgery and birth control. I had the Paragard IUD when I had my RNY in September 2013. I started experiencing horrible hormonal acne three years later, and was prescribed Yaz. I had my IUD removed because the bleeding was terrible. I had never had heavy periods prior to the Paragard and when it was removed, the heavy bleeding stopped. Yaz has kept my skin blemish free for 6 years. Even as a RNY patient, it has been completely effective against pregnancy. So, for some women, there may be an increased risk of malabsorption of the BCP, but that has not been my experience. My GYN knows my surgical history and told me years ago it’s totally fine for me and my husband to continue using as our primary method of BC.
