@pinkneymm@aol.com Another AOL account? Great, have you had it for a long time? I’ve always had mine. Anyway I’m on my 2nd week of pre op diet and having a hard time with it because I don’t know why?? I’ve lost a lb a day so far and my esophageal hernia started really acting up and it hurts to swallow anything. But other than that it’s great to already be losing weight. I can even fit into some clothes that I couldn’t before. My surgery is 10/21…really looking forward to it! Yours is not too far away! Yay!!! Best to you!

@Kimberly740 My surgery isn’t for another week 10/21 on 2nd week of pre op diet. Not doing the perfect following of it though. Did you have problems with having a BM during the 2nd week of pre op diet? Swallowing is hard because of my hernia. Just started a couple of days ago with this difficulty. How are doing now other than wanting something more substantial? -
GOOD MORNING , MINE IS 10/29 AND I HAD MY PRE OP THURSDAY AND THEY HAVE ME ON A LEAN AND GREEN DIET IS WHAT THEY CALL IT HERE AT THE HOSPITAL , BASICALLY NO FAT OR SUGARS AND STUFF, MY LIQUID DIET STARTS AFTER SURGERY .

a lot of plastic surgeons suggest you wait for a year after hitting your lowest weight, because it's very common to have a 10-20 lb rebound. I waited two years, and I'm glad I did since I did gain that much (actually, a little more). They say a gain of more than 10-15 lbs can affect the results.

Recipe Needed for Spaghetti Sauce Please.
summerseeker replied to ShoppGirl's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
A basic tomato sauce for pasta. 2 onions chopped, 4 cloves of garlic crushed, or 1 tablespoon out of a jar, 2 tins of chopped tomatoes [ we have 400gm tins in the Uk, 10 ounces ] 1 teaspoon of dried oregano or 2 teaspoons of chopped fresh oregano. 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Salt and pepper. Pinch of sugar Fry the onion slowly in the oil, you do not want much colour on it. When its slightly translucent you can add the garlic and the other ingredients. Simmer gently for about 30 minutes. You can blitz this sauce smooth or leave it chunky. Add your seafood to this basic sauce, clams and mussels only take a few minutes to cook. To make this recipe your own, you can add to the basic tomato sauce. Add chopped mushrooms to the pan after the onions have cooked and then follow the basic recipe and you have a fab meatball sauce when blitzed Add chilli flakes and a few anchovies to the cooked onions and your tomato sauce is going heaven wards when chopped olives and a few capers are added at the end. Find a no nonsence cook you like, I like Nigella Lawson, she is all about flavour and easy to do for busy people. Stick to their recipes. Looking at more than one persons recipes does confuse and cloud the issue. -
It took literally forever, but I finally did it!!!
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I finally gained weight!!! I'm officially at 180, and I like that. I feel better, I have more energy, and I don't feel nearly so run down and out of it. Still look super thin, but it is what it is. Now I'm going to work on maintenance since this is where I want to stay. I'm ok with 2 pounds in either direction, but I definitely don't want to drop below 178 again lol I got all the way down to 170 and it was just really bad. I literally don't work out at all anymore because I'm on my feet all day working 5 days per week. I increased my calories to 1700 per day (up from 1500), my carbs to 55 net per day (up from 40 or so), my protein to 100g per day (up from 80), my healthy fats to 80g per day (up from 50), my fiber intake to 30g (10 from supplements and the rest from food - up from 20) and upped my fluids to 120 fl oz per day (up from 90 - 100). I'll add my weekend workouts back in now (nothing crazy, just core and strength but on the lighter side, not heavy) so I don't gain too much now that I've figured out how to finally gain weight lol -

I'm finally on the other side of the surgery! I'm abou 10 hours post-op! I've never been so thirsty in my entire life, but otherwise I'm doing OK. I'm in some pain when I try to stand op and I sipped water too fast so that cause some pain, but I don't have any regrets! This is the beginning! I'm so ready!

Wisdom from a 10-year VSG Veteran
Spinoza replied to JamieLogical's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Excellent thread - thank you @JamieLogical! I got sleeved almost 3 years ago. I hit my goal weight well within my first year. I lost another 10lbs very slowly in my second year to reach a BMI of 20. I was absolutely thrilled - I had lost just over half my body weight and was well beyond wildest dreams territory after a lifetime of obesity. But I started to regain this year. Initially I thought it was just the classic '3rd year regain' of the 10 - 20 lbs that so many people seem to experience. I asked lots of questions here and was reassured by the answers. I hadn't really drifted *that* much off the path (I thought). However, I continued to regain with no let up and was getting really worried. I eventually reached 16lbs over my lowest weight a month or so ago. Finally, I decided to go back to absolute basics and see whether that might reverse the regain. Carbs had crept in a bit (NOT A LOT, honestly) so I started every meal with protein, ate veg next, and stopped all bread, rice, pasta, potatoes etc. Just as I would have 2-3 years ago. Guess what? I have lost 9lbs of that regain in just over a month. My current diet is pretty much strict keto and not hard at all. I totally agree that the tool is there, we just have to use it and not eat around it. I'm so happy that I caught myself before I regained much more, but I can also totally see how I might have undone much more hard work. I wish you all the very very best with your new loss. I suspect you'll greet every milestone with just as much joy as you did originally. -

@Chatterboxdea I have had a similar problem. I have only lost 3.4 pounds in the last 19 days. I was stalled with a pound or so for two weeks. My foods are where they should. I’m going to the gym 3-4 days a week as told. My water is a little iffy by not too bad. we just have to remember that we did not gain the weight overnight and we won’t lose it that way either. Some of us lose slower than others. It obviously doesn’t hurt to talk to your dietician and get suggestions. But you are not alone. -
Cost of complications
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Cmd6715's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So #1 is you definitely need to fight to get this rebilled properly. It's insane to me that they won't fix the billing. They get paid more for the proper procedure, so that's crazy that they won't fix it. Then #2 is you need to contact someone about starting a lawsuit. The surgeon should have called an ambulance for you. The surgery should have been done in a hospital. You should have been monitored closely and been up walking within 2 hours of being out of recovery and back in your room. Knicking an artery could have literally killed you and definitely should been noticed before 10 hours. Finally #3 is getting this covered by your insurance. BCBS should be covering any lifesaving, medically necessary health care and procedures. No, they won't cover care for non covered procedures, but that's usually just follow ups and complications of the NON LIFE THREATENING variety. Everything you've been telling us falls into the life threatening, surgeon negligence, medically necessary to SAVE YOUR LIFE category and should be covered. You need someone to fight on your behalf to get this stuff covered and either greatly reduce or even completely eliminate your bill. I'm from Florida, and while it might be done in some places to have a surgery like this in a surgery center and not a hospital, it's definitely not the absolute norm. Did you do extensive research on this surgeon, his reviews, compare him and his pricing to other surgeons? No way would I have had this surgery and NOT been in a hospital. Too many things can happen when you least expect it. This guy distancing himself from all of this, when clearly he screwed up, is the first HUGE red flag. Refusing to fix the billing error is the 2nd one. Not calling an ambulance and instead having your husband take you (effectively making it appear that you left on your own and went to the ER instead of him seeing an issue while under his care and calling an ambulance for you, so he can wash his hands of it and look like whatever happened was on YOUR watch and not his) is a 3rd red flag. -
Help!! Too low body fat percentage
Lilia_90 replied to LindsayT's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I second that. I am at a lower BMI and hover between 18-19% body fat. I would say that 12% is quite far fetched. I suggest you see another clinic/doctor to determine your body fat percentage. -
Food Before and After Photos

So I get very very very hungry right before my period and the first few days of my cycle. It is so intense that I feel that there is a hole in my stomach where the food disappears 10 minutes after I’ve eaten. It is so weird and I have never experienced this pre WLS. I have clocked 1750 calories for 4 days straight and a whopping 120 grams of protein because I can’t seem to get full. Then I just lose interest in eating for the rest of my cycle, anyone else experience this? Things I’ve eaten the past few days: Galore of burgers. Double smashed cheeseburgers, a classic burger, and a spicy crispy chicken burger. Maple buffalo shrimps Up close and personal on the spicy chicken burger. So hubby was quite taken aback at how much I ordered (knowing he’ll have to eat most of it, teaser: he did) I got excited to try everything (teaser: I didn’t). I hade around 3/4 of one half of the smash cheeseburger, and a bite of the spicy chicken burger which was soooo good but then I felt so sick and regretted eating that. Hubby ate most of the shrimps, his whole burger and my half. The rest was put in the fridge. There was also a large portion of fries which I didn’t taste. -
Sleevetobypass2023- Yes they did the sleeve at a surgical center (very common in Florida) they have private staff to keep you over night but at 10:15pm when it was time for me to walk again I was dizzy and my BP was low so they called my husband and told to drive me to the hospital that my surgeon text him the info for. By the time I arrived at the hospital I had already loss 2000cc of blood and looked 9 months pregnant. As far as the surgeon he said he is sorry, these things happen and there is nothing he can do. He won’t even help have the hospital correct the billing codes. BCBS told me they don’t cover any WLS or complications from it but they paid to remove my lap and 3 years ago.

Cost of complications
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Cmd6715's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
A couple of things. I have never heard of anyone having a sleeve and not spending 1 night in the hospital. It was done as a same day procedure? And it should have been done in a hospital. Was it done in a surgery center and not the hospital? If so, why? When I had my sleeve and later my revision to bypass, BCBS paid for both. Why did they not pay for yours? Typically if you're self pay, insurance won't pay for any care pertaining to that procedure if it was something they already wouldn't cover. Have you reached out to the surgeon who did your surgery? What did they say about the complications? And I guess I'm confused about how an artery was knicked and nobody noticed for 10 hours. And yes, if you had a sleeve and it was billed as a lap band, it most definitely needs to be corrected. -
I was self pay at a surgical center and had to go to a hospital 10 hours later for another surgery because of internal bleeding(nicked artery), needed several transfusions and spent 3 days in the hospital plus had to have more blood and iron transfusions after leaving that hospital. I’m now stuck with over $175,000 in hospitals bills and more still coming. BCBS is denying the claim because they don’t cover bariatric surgery or complications. The hospital billed it as complications of lap band instead of complications of gastric sleeve. I’m told it doesn’t matter because they won’t pay either but what if I want to appeal it, shouldn’t it be billed correctly?

Forgot because it’s been awhile since I’ve had any abdominal surgery. Thought it best to inform my surgeon of my multiple scar tissue and adhesions from 7-8 abdominal surgeries starting in 1981-2018. Have video appointment 10/11 but first…. 2nd one with nutritionist, then my pre op exam by primary, then pre op with nurse of surgeon, maybe another with nutritionist? Then surgery for gastric sleeve & esophageal hernia repair! Hope there is no problem with the previous surgeries?! -

Body Dysmorphia
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Bypass2Freedom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I absolutely deal with this. There's times I look in the mirror and still see 421 pounds. My husband made me keep one of my size 5x outfits, one of my size 10 rings, and try to put them on when I get lost in the dysmorphia. And it really helps snap me out of it. -

Hi! Surgery is 10/16, as long as I survive this pre-op diet. lol. I’ve been at it seriously for a year now, and lost 60+ lbs with Ozempic. Coming out of surgery I can’t wait to see my A1C drop, my blood pressure drop, and my CPAP go into storage.
