My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

I'm really struggling with being hungry, but I come back to this forum a lot, and I read the bariatric handbook from my surgeon's office, and I remind myself why I'm doing this. I'm not going to give up or cheat or walk away from this. I've come so far, I'm not screwing it up now. BUT, it's still really hard. I'm HUNGRY!!!! But I'm working, watching true crime, watching Netflix and Hulu, and whining to my husband LOL I know I'll get through it, but this part REALLY really stinks.

I was an avid home cook and baker before surgery and am happy to announce I still am after. There's plenty of things we can cook and eat post op still once you're back to eating regular foods. I do protein pasta with a protein of some kind, I did almond flour crust Pizzas, I've done veggie bowls, omelets, burrito bowls, bariatric friendly cake and brownies, broccoli cheddar soup. My fave right now is a bariatric friendly Cobb bowl since I can't eat raw leafy vegetables yet. It has baked peppers and kale, wild rice, avocado, red onion, cherry tomatoes, cheese, boiled egg, olives, vegetarian bacon and a dijon lemon garlic vegan dressing I make. Here's a pic of it. One bowl has about 22 grams of protein, good amount of fiber too. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

check out the blog "The World According to Eggface". She's a long-time bariatric patient and is very active in the international bariatric community. She also loves to cook, and she has recipes on her site for all the different phases.
  4. I’m 3 weeks out from surgery. May 16. Gastric Bypass. I’m 60. 5’6. 43 BMI. With so many co-morbidities ! Diabetes, high blood pressure. Arthritis in knees and ankles. Last weekend I got very down, thinking if I hadn’t been successful before long-term how was I going to be able to do it now. If I had slowly been losing since this whole process started last July when I had my first consult I would weigh less now as I know wls is just a tool and not a magical solution. I talked about my fears, ordered a bariatric cookbook and got on here to read to see if anyone eles was going through something similar. I didn’t find anyone who wrote word for word what I was feeling but I read supportive things, really just what I needed to read, to think that yeah ok I got this. My daughter said that she’d be worried if I felt invincible beforehand because acknowledging my shortcomings beforehand seemed more healthy. It helps not to keep things bottled up because that’s when the fears snowball for me. I had my doctor phone appointment last Thursday. I forgot to ask how long they recommend being off work. I was readying myself to have to do a 2 week liquid diet but doc said it wasn’t necessary, just for me to lose as much weight before surgery as I could. Which lead to me thinking about how I hadn’t lost anything really during these months of pre-op. and self-doubts. I appreciate all y’all writing about everything. The good bad and ugly. The overwhelming sentiment seems to be: why didn’t I do this earlier. That’s where I want to be. Now, working on tapering off of caffeine! Thanks for being my buddies.

    Vitamins

I was also told to stop taking vitamins a certain amount of weeks before surgery. But in reality taking bariatric vitamins before surgery is a waste. You will literally just pee most of it out. The body can only absorb so much and the rest goes out in pee.

    Vitamins

I was told I would have to stop taking vitamins a few weeks before surgery. But, why would you want to take them? The only reason to take bariatric vitamins is because you can't absorb vitamins due to a malabsorptive procedure or you can't eat enough of a variety of foods due to a restrictive procedure. otherwise, mostly vitamins just aren't necessary

    Planning ahead just incase...

Well this just makes me sad. You're in your honeymoon phase with your sleeve and you're already thinking about the possibility of revision. And being self pay, and the steps you'd have to take to get said revision. It shouldn't be this way. I was curious about The Affordable Care act and what Obamacare covers. So I just looked into it. It covers substance abuse in every state. But only select states cover bariatric surgery. It makes no sense. I hope the pain in your chest turns out to be nothing, especially not acid reflux and you have a long and happy marriage with your sleeve!

    The Very Beginning

Hiya Gnerdie, Only have a suggestion for you. I have found the Facebook site 'Bariatric Support Australia' a very good means of information. I live near Melbourne in Vic so I cannot recommend anyone. I wish you well on your journey.
  10. Thanks to whomever recommended The Bariatric Mindset book by Kristin Lloyd, it is a great book and just what I needed! I'm journaling again, back into daily meditation (this works best for myself to help with emotional eating.) It has some great tools that I've heard of before or read about or have even done before but have forgotten to include them in my toolbox. There's knowing and there's doing.
  11. you would need to call doctors in your area because none of us know where you live. Start calling bariatric centers that you insurance will accept to see if they can fit you in. for me from when i completed all my pre op testing to surgery date was about 3 weeks. ( I am in Florida)
  12. I took the bariatric advantage multi vitamin and calcium chews while I was early out. At about 6 months though I switched to pro care health bariatric multivitamin with 45mg of iron. It’s truly a one a day vitamin and it’s a capsule that’s much cheaper and was approved by my team. I have to take it with something though. I take it immediately after I finish my protein shake in the morning. Some people have to take it with food. For what it’s worth I did not lose any hair. I kept up my protein and took only those two vitamins. I honestly don’t think it’s a matter of brand of vitamin but I do believe that early out it’s safer to take the best when you are getting hardly ANY real nutrition.
  13. So i had sleeve done last Monday. So far so good. I do get some pain in my chest if i lay flat in a bed (Maybe acid reflux) but if i just prop up my head i am good. But never know if revision may be needed in the future and since i am self pay that could be a problem. here in Florida bariatric surgery is not covered under the affordable care act (obamacare) So i have been doing research on which states do. One in particular is South Dakota. So if i were to say move to South Dakota, establish my residency there and get health insurance thru the affordable care act, Bariatric surgery is covered. one great resource there is a company called America's Mailbox, where you can setup your own residency (in a RV) get a drivers license, south dakota plates ect... Think that will be my backup plan if one day in the future i need a revision which i hope i do not.
  14. Just a warning, I thought the chewables were disgusting. I had to throw all of them out. I have tried two different one-a-day capsules from this website. Both great. I also recommend the Bariatric Pal calcium chews. They are like chocolate starburst, I take two of them per day as a dessert.
  15. Family is hard! My family said much of the same..’why would you butcher a perfectly good stomach’ ‘ just show some will power’ and so on. Then as I lost weight the snide comments about ‘doing it the easy way’ and subtle sabatoge having slider food and sweets around. Develop your support system, and stay focused! If you have a local support group with your doctor go to it, if you are not a gym person see if there is a Meet Up walking group you can join. Buy a Bariatric cookbook for guidance as you heal and take on life long changes. Your family can eat the same healthy foods, just different portions. Best of Health!! Tina

    Struggling

My mother experienced this with one of her sleeping tablets too. She’d find empty ice cream containers in the sink & ice cream wrappers around the house with absolutely no memory of eating them. (Funny that she always went to frozen treats.) she changed her meds & no more sleep eating. You’ll probably find your weight stabilises too because you’re not ingesting as much food. Have you considered starting with a therapist? It’s usually part of your surgery approval process but nothing days you can’t start earlier. You could ask your surgeon for a referral/recommendation to someone who specialises in bariatric surgery & disordered eating. Many find seeing a therapist very beneficial for many things including their emotional health, weight loss & their relationship with food.

I figured the ones that said multi was the vitamin but I wasnt sure what all the flavors were if they were all calcium or something else. I am not familiar with Bariatric Advantage and was sent these in a sample pack

    How much calcium??

I requested and received a sample package from Bariatric Advantage. I received individual packets of iron and then some loose chewy ones. There are several different flavors. I do not know what they are tho no information provided besides the brochure. A couple of them say Multi on it so those I am assuming are the multivitamins but what are all the other flavors they only say the flavor on the wrapper? I also received HPMR, banana, choc and strawberry that I will try on Monday. Can anyone identify the chewy ones?
  20. Hello everyone! New to this site. I have done a lot of research and I am pretty positive I want to have the SADI-S surgical procedure done for weight loss. Has anyone else had this done? If so, can you please tell me about your experience with it? I want the good and bad parts of your experience to know as much as possible. I went to one of the major hospital bariatric surgeon groups in my area that said they accept self pay since my insurance doesn’t cover anything dealing with weight loss and after 5+ hours of classes and meetings with the team the surgeon came in and said no to any surgery because my insurance will not cover it and she doesn’t want to do it in case of a complication and me being 100% financially responsible for the cost. So I have another appointment with a different major hospital bariatric surgeon in 2 weeks and I explained what happened and they said they will deal with the insurance company and will accept self pay, they said this is a common thing they deal with. Thanks for any information and help you give!

    How much calcium??

I take 3 Bariatric Advantage calcium chewy bites 3x per day for a total of 1500 mg per day.
  22. After my surgery, I took the following chewables (almost all brands have the same stuff so I just went with what would cost the least!) Pro Care Health Bariatric Multivitamin with 45 mg Iron - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085F314T2/ - "Fruit punch" flavor, the taste is a little meh but it does that job BariBursts - Watermelon Calcium Citrate - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SV51NM6/ - Oh yeah these are freaking delicious, it was like having a little candy treat twice a day After my doctor's office said I didn't need the chewables anymore, I switched to these: Bariatric Choice Once Daily Bariatric Multivitamin Capsule with 45 mg of Iron - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HZ3YQ5X/ Spring Valley Calcium Citrate Dietary Supplement - https://www.walmart.com/ip/Spring-Valley-Calcium-Citrate-Dietary-Supplement-600-mg-300-count/47431969 - I take two, twice a day, and it's ridiculously inexpensive
  23. My surgeon required me to stop taking everything for the first two weeks. After that, everything has to be chewable for 60 days. I will be taking Flintstones Multivitamin with Iron, Bariatric Advantage chewable calcium citrate, B-12 that dissolves under the tongue and a chewable Biotin. P.S. I took chewable Gas-X after surgery for the gas pains. It was a life saver, so ask your surgeon about taking that.

Surgery next week, need vitamin help

I couldn't choose which vitamins to take. The Dietician recommended Bariatric Fusion Complete. And if I want to try something else, she has to approve it. So this vitamin that I take, you chew two in the morning and two at night. And that's it. It's complete. I asked her about the ProCare Chewables with Iron... she said I would take one chewable plus I would have to take calcium citrate chews 2-3 times a day beginning a few hours after the vitamin, and also the calcium has to be spaced out throughout the day. Your body can only absorb 500 mg of calcium at a time and you can't take it at the same time as you take any supplement containing iron. So I decided to stick with the Bariatric Fusion Complete, because it's easy and I don't have to buy extra calcium. It seems like less of my life would be revolving around supplements all day long too. So the regimen column is indicating how many vitamin chewables you take, then how many calcium chews you have to take also. B12 is included in the multivitamin.
  25. I personally have several different ones. So since i just had surgery on Monday. I am not really wanting to do pills at this moment. So i am doing the patches. But thats only for maybe the first month. After that i have the Barimelts Multivamin (They melt in your mouth) and also the ones from this website here called Bariatric Pal Multivitamin One with 45mg iron. I will wait to take those once i am more healed
