Going through the process of bieng approved for bariatirc surgery
enigma_007 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello everyone, I guess you can say this is the start of my journey to bariatric surgery. I have been overwieght my entire life. Ive tried many types of diets and excercise plans. The most i was able to lose on my own was 30 lbs in the span of 6months. Life circumstances didnt allow me to continue to excercise n diet are regidly and i eventually fell off the wagon. Im the heaviest ive ever been...286. Ive been relectutant to opt for WL surgery bc i fear a botched surgery and complications. Ive finally decided to set aside negative fears and go through with the gastic sleeve. Ive met with my surgeon and he gave me the check list of all the doctors i need to see so we can submit approval for insurance. Ive been reading this forum and trying to get informed as possible. I still feel very anxious but also excited. I know this isnt an easy fix and will take alot of hard work n dedication. Im trying to change eating habits..by i found myself over eating fron stress.Any advice is greatly appreciated. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Lots of liquids. I've included a 1/2 cup of warm Organic Smooth Move Tea when I felt constipated (in the Coffee/Tea section aisle) which I sweeten with a little bit of stevia/truvia. Found Walmart's Great Value brand drinks which are comparable in every way to Crystal Light, but half the cost & you get more, bc H20 is still hard for me to keep down 3.5 mos post-op. Good luck with your weight loss journey. Sent from my SCH-I545 using BariatricPal mobile app

BCBS California, how much do they cover?
jenngetsthin replied to bnturner3's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Anthem BC (California) but it's H-M-O so I'm only responsible for my surgery copay which is $250. Also, I have to pay for all of the office visit copays for the pre-surgery appointments ($25 or $40 each depending on which doctor). -
I am bumming out

You may be sick of them now, but protein shakes are also an option. I am also in class/ labs and the protein shake has been a life saver bc they don't req refrigeration and you are not technically "eating" in class... Good luck to you! -

Did Anthem BCBS get rid of their 6 month supervised diet requirement?
Starsmore replied to provenzee's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Anthem BC and I emailed to ask. They said that six months of supervised weight loss was required, but I was already able to meet with the surgeon and I have all the preop testing scheduled and approved, so I'm not sure what the deal is.... -
BCBS California, how much do they cover?
Starsmore replied to bnturner3's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Anthem BC (in California) and they said I'll be responsible for 20% of the hospital bill. -
I am trying to lose the last 3 pounds my insurance requires of me. However, I have an awful headache all the time and no energy. Not to mention how crabby I am. I am doing a liquid diet bc I only have about a week to go. Any advice on whatbI am doing wrong or is this normal?

Next week I will be 6 months out, I have lost 88 pounds and feeling great, still only about to eat about 3-4 ounces. Have chest days every now and then but everything is on track. I have a love hate relationship with my decision bc sometimes I feel so restricted but then I look at this and now I can run with my kid and play and not get out of breath!

How long does it for insurance approval
belinda401 replied to Drea8989's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was submitted last week on Tuesday and I still so not have an answer. I have checked everyday! Finally one of the reps took my phone number and said she would keep an eye out and let me know when the status changed. She told me to expect it around the 19th. Too long! I have BC Anthem (out of California). I wish I had these quick ones like other folks!! -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Allie589 replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't weighed myself but I know I was in a stall for almost 2 weeks. Then, out of nowhere, I can't wear my pants! They fall off! Woohoo!!! I'm still struggling with feeling icky and not getting enough fluids. It's a bad cycle bc I don't want to eat or drink bc I feel icky but feel even worse if I don't eat or drink. I went to a really nice restaurant the other night and they were wonderful with helping me. I'm on soft foods right now so they made me a 4 ounce side of crab salad and half of avocado. Though I did get a little nauseated, after it passed, I felt like a million bucks! There's something to be said about real protein! I couldn't eat more than 1/3 but man, what I was able to eat made me feel so good! I had energy! Though I know this is the case if I eat, I still struggle daily. I'm going to call the bariatric nurse tomorrow and talk to her about what to do. 5'7 Sleeved 8/7 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 235 At 2 week post op GW: 150 -
my husband couldn't take off work either but my mom took me to the hospital. I can eat anything at social gatherings. I take a small scoop of this and that so that I don't feel like I'm at this picnic a n can't enjoy myself but I try to make good choices as well. I went through a phase pre op where I got worried and tried to eat a much of the stuff I thought I couldn't after surgery. But I also used to worry that if I didn't eat enough at lunch then I might get hungry later and not be able to eat at that time. As it got closer to surgery date I tried to really follow the diet and exercise some. Now after surgery, I try not to get too much good bc I know it'll go to waste. Just try to focus on why you made this decision and know that you'll be able to eat anything again but it'll be up to you make the choice to be healthier and after you lose some weight exercise will be easier and more comfortable.

You have no idea how relieved this post made me. I'm two weeks post-op, exhausted and cranky. Hope it's short term bc I am annoyed with myself at this point!

Hi all, I'm only 17 days out. I'm having difficulty getting protein in because I CANNOT deal with protein shakes. I hate all of them. They are too sweet for me. The only thing I can manage is biPro protein water (20g protein) in lemon flavor bc it's sour. But I know I'll get tired of it quickly. I don't like the "unflavored" protein bc to me it's not unflavored. It changes the taste of what I put it in, and then I don't want it. I'm trying to eat my protein, but there's no way I can eat enough at this point when I can only eat 3-4 Tbsp of any food. Also, I feel like I can eat too much at this point. Eventually I get full, but I thought I would only be able to eat 2 Tbsp of food at this point, and I AM getting hungry even though my nutritionist said it was all in my head. No way it's in my head. It's real hunger. I'm not eating too much - as soon as I feel full I stop and I'm having no pain or discomfort. I'm not eating "bad food" either. I'm not getting enough water...even though I'm definitely trying. I'm getting less than half. I actually love plain water....I'm just not getting it in with my schedule (single parent working full-time and overtime). All of the above is likely contributing to the fact that I haven't lost any weight in almost a week. I was 16 lbs down from surgery day, and now I've stayed at 248 for almost a week. Ideas on how to get protein in that's not a shake? I haven't tried the tomato soup or chicken soup protein yet (how best to use these?) but I would much rather savory than anything sweet. I despise every protein shake. I'll like it for one shake and then can't stomach it after that. Also - do you think the lack of weight loss at this point is because of the protein/water issue? Doing fine with vitamins. My doc said I could start doing "light running" at this point, and I laughed. I have barely enough energy to get through the day as it is - exercise is definitely not an option at this point. Any thoughts/ideas would be welcome! Thanks all!

Can't decide between Sleeve and By-Pass
Apple1 replied to Doo Lally's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a had a remission of my type 2 diabetes with the sleeve. I was not insulin dependent and had been on medication for 3.5 years. I have been off all meds since 2 days post op and my bs are normal. -
Why do protein drinks taste awful?
Cmal replied to Véronique's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I hated all the protien shakes I've tried. They all smell and taste like baby vomit and chemicals to me. I purchased unflavored Bulksupplements Pure Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate Powder. I mix it with almond or skim milk, frozen fruit and stevia to taste, also use the sugar free surups like Torani. The powder doesn't really have any taste or smell. Finally I found one I can drink. -
12 weeks??! [emoji33] I'm on half liquids going into my 3rd month right now to keep my BS levels in check barely but full liquids for 3 months I would shoot myself! JK of course...

@QueenTiff I wish I had your problem I really really need this surgery but can't afford to have this surgery bc right now I am trying to save up the money to have this surgery. I know there will be challenges that I will have to face but give it a chance. I really wish I could have this surgery so I can get to living my life instead of just here wondering the whats and ifs don't give up bc I am not going to give up if it takes me 3 more years I am still going to try and save my money to foot the bill for this surgery. I regret this surgery
jeepgirl0707 replied to QueenTiff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First off.. STOP, BREATHE.. RELAX... okay.. Ready.. I'm going to be as real (and nice) with you as I can.. I'm not saying I'm a veteran but I am almost two years out, and hit my goal on my 1 year mark, and have maintained... It gets easier!!! Stop living in the past and start living for your future.. Yes, its scary that world (past) you know so well, your comfortable with it. This new journey is scary and unknown. But I promise you its a better life.. With that being said, we HAVE to remember this tool isn't a fix all, miracle worker. You dont get it and all of a sudden your urges go away. NOT EVEN close, its a constant battle, choosing not to go back, choosing the better life style.. You're friends who truly love/care about you will get it, you guys can find new ways to have fun that doesn't revolve around food. And if they aren't willing to change or meet you half way, are they really you're friends again... On to the "foods" you can NEVER have again.. I was told no carbonation so soda, energy drinks ect... But really after time you don't even want those no more. For me carbonation hurts, but if I want a coke I will open it. let it sit out, go flat then have a drink or two.. I see go to bars and drink.. I will have vodka with water, and bring my own crystal light, or on fun occasions I with have an Angry Orchard, its very lightly carbonated so it doesn't hurt.. However, you will feel the effect of drinking faster.. Lol so bound bc bar tap will be lower.. There is beauty in it, you just have to go through the dark phase to see the light... Don't ever doubt your decision, on bettering your life. You know its worth it, by how hard it is.. I get the frustration & your feelings Queen Tiff. I'm 3mos post op. I went to Walmart & got all their Great Value drink mix flavors, which are exactly like Crystal Light but they cost less & you get more. I have Fudgsicles, Creamsicles & Popsicles, which maybe have 5 gms of sugar at most. I learned it's better to begin the day with broth & then have your protein shake. I have SF/NF puddings & jellos. I flavor my shakes w the flavored drinks, jellos & puddings. I consistently drink my flavored drinks daily to ensure I'm getting 90 oz daily. I've lost 55lbs. I walk 2.5 miles or more every day & evening. We all get discouraged, you're not alone. I can eat an egg, putting a little cheese in it to make an omelet. Our stomachs are the size of an egg. I want to inhale it, but have learned to eat w a baby spoon/fork & make that sucker last so it doesn't come back up. I have had Wor Wonton soup, but only get the shrimp in it & not the chicken or pork. It lasts a few days, but it's so good. I make shrimp w broccoli & I buy the Jumbo shrimp & cook it all in chicken broth. I can eat 3 Jumbo shrimps now. I can eat a half of a chicken drumstick, which I bake. I'm a chef & know how to season food & how to pair proteins & veggies. I make a great spinach tomato Florentine soup. I can't tolerate much dairy, but can have it if it's NF. Hope my post helps you, I assure you you're not alone & am glad you began this dialog. You're going to be so happy w yourself when you get rid of your fat clothes bc they slide off you. I'm a roomy size 8 & I still have more weight & inches to lose. Be proud of your healthy weight loss journey & know that you will be able to eat foods you love again. Hi all! I am new to this forum as of today. I have my Dr appt on 26th Sept. I have been researching and umming and arrrhhhing for the last 3 years but have made the decision to have the sleeve. I'm thinking about doing the endoscopic sleeve.... does anyone know anyone who has had it done this way?? I'm in the Hunter Valley NSW area. I had a lap band in 2005 but after 3 years had it removed. As most have done, I've tried every diet I could find and fed up with the yoyo so here goes! Sending my best wishes and thoughts to you all Warm Regards Rainbow Gypsy
