How close to goal weight before PS?
Kelbell replied to mrgrta's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Hi Cathy! I am seeing my doctor on Monday and have planned to speak with him about my options. I haven't had any consults with surgeons, but it is my understanding that the majority of them want us to be at goal weight for at least a year prior to performing surgery. I am only 2 pounds from the goal I set for myself and I believe that I have a good 10-15 lbs of excess skin on my tummy alone, this would put me closer to what the doctors charts say that I 'should' weigh. I feel fantastic, however, the skin bothers me a lot. I will let you know what the doctor says when I see him on Monday. Best of luck to you!!! If it were me......I would lose until YOU feel you are finished, then schedule your surgery. -
I was at my sweet spot for many months and lost most of my weight during this time. However, I only averaged about 1.5 pounds a week. I knew it was my sweet spot because the loss was steady and I wasn't hungry between meals and could only eat a limited amount of food before I was full. Really for me, I think the sweet spot is the point at which weight loss is no longer much of a struggle and it just happens if you are following the rules and exercising without feeling deprived. I would always lose a fast 5-10 pounds after a fill, but the sweet spot was long term with the 1.5 weekly loss on average.

Happy Sunday Sleevers and soon to be sleevers and thinking about it sleevers!!! My God song of the week is Amazing Grace (my chains are gone). By Chris Tomlin. I truly feel like God is lifting chains off of me one by one. It is a wonderful feeling! I weighed in today and lost 3 more lbs (still waiting for my surgery) but that is a total of 24 lbs so far! Each one of those pounds is a chain on my body holding me down and back. I am 300 lbs now and able to exercise of 30 min straight without pain during or after. This is a big victory for me, and I give God all the glory. My chains are gone I've been set free My God, my Savior has ransomed me And like a flood His mercy reigns Unending love, Amazing grace The Lord has promised good to me His word my hope secures He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures [nomedia=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqJsBRFdrA0]YouTube - Chris Tomlin - Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)[/nomedia] Blessings:001_wub:

Well, yesterday I turned 50& today I started the pre op diet. My surgery date is 10/24 and I must say that i'm optimistic. I'm a revision patient, originally fitted with an unsuccessful Lap band. The band resulted in four additional corrective surgeries. I ended up in the ER where the band had to be removed. My ER surgeon is now my bariactric Dr & one of the best in this field. Lucky me!! I'm optimistic because this time I have a great Dr and i'm much wiser. I've scheduled counseling to deal with all of my "stuff", I plan to start learning yoga, and finally, I'm working on a nutrition overhual. I'm going to attack obesity from all levels. If anyone can lend insight to the counseling, yoga, & nutrition please chime in because i'm open to receive!

Omg I did the same exact thing. I was sleeved on 10/25 and when I was in preop I started crying After the nurse or maybe a tech said you getting sleeved. So I starting crying and ask myself was I doing the right thing. Then I calm down and my doctor came in after my sister chatted with me and said you will be fine. I hope and believe I made the right choice. I can't get enough fluids in. All the Protein or nasty maybe because it remind me of milk and Im lactose intolerance. Doctor said my tongue was white and I need to drink so other than that I will survive. I'm happy I went through with it but I just need liquids.

Hello all- I had my lap band done on 10/27/03, and have yet to get a fill. I have lost 60 lbs, and still have quite a bit of restriction. There are days when I can eat whatever I want, and days where I can eat very little. Has anyone else passed on the fills thorugh 4 months or more? I'm beginning to wonder if I will ever need one!! Thanks. 363/303/219

newly banded - not losing
kellypup replied to shafe001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, my question is... I was banded on 10/24. By the 3rd day I was fine with drinking fluids. It's now been, 2.5 and I'm already eating. yes I know I'm not suppose to, but I stay so hungry! I'm, afraid I'll strech my stomach, is this possible? I'm not eating anywhere near wha i use to, but I'm already eating "soft foods". I'm afraid I'll gain weight before my 1st fill in 3 weeks. Anyone else have this problem? -
Worried about how to keep kids from getting fat.
Luvin_Life125 replied to NothingUpMySleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have the same concerns for my sons (7&10). It is something we work for everyday. We discuss the importance of healthy food choices and exercise. Treats aren't labelled as bad, but as something we have occasionally. My youngest has life threatening food allergies which has made us read ingredient labels for every item we buy. We have turned label reading into a teachable moment and they are learning the difference between natural food and chemical "food". I also use their school lessons in our house to broaden their understanding. All we can do is try. Nobody is perfect but the fact that you worry about their nutrition says a lot! Hang in their and know that just by trying to find out how to help them is the biggest and most difficult first step! -
Last night I ventured into the world of real food again. According to my post-op diet I can have fish and cooked vegetables...so I went to Luby's and ate about 1-1/2 oz. of baked fish, maybe 12 green beans, and 2 tbsp. of mashed potatoes. Yes, I was a little scared to swallow. But I chewed the tar out of that food and I had little problem. And I sure didn't eat very much. In the hours that followed I did have 4-5 short bursts of pain in my sternum area but it was no big deal. It did, however, give me a glimpse of what it feels like to get something stuck. Motivation enough to chew, chew, chew let me tell you! The most amazing thing was how this little bit of food kept me satisfied all night long!!! :omg: I realize it won't always be this way, but it was an interesting view of things to come. I dropped another 2 lbs. This is the coolest thing ever. Slept really well last night but had the STRANGEST dreams of my life. OMG!! And they just went on and on and on and on. Can't go into details in a public forum but let me just say they involved everything from bugs in my poop, to working with the FBI to nab a former neighbor, to being unable to properly care for a baby, to being named an executive in a new corporate merger. Hey, they're just dreams, right??? :rolleyes This morning have a good deal of pain at port incision and lots of pulling sensations when I cough or sneeze (OMG!!!), etc. Also, still constipated after taking two rounds of milk of magnesia :puke:. Gas is better this morning. Much better. Will try to move around more today....go for a longer 30 minute walk....maybe even 2x!! That would be really good. counts for yesterday: Total 638 Fat:21 190 30% Sat:10 93 15% Poly:3 29 5% Mono:6 54 9% Carbs:71 272 43% Fiber:3 0 0% Protein:43 171 27%

Has anyone tried 10 minute trainer? If so, does it work?

Has anyone else used the kitchenaid spiralizer? I saw the posts about the zoodles, which prompted the search for a spiralizer. I tried one of the plastic cheapy ones with little success. I have a kitchenaid, but not sure about the $100 price tag. HW 385 SW 359 Sleeved 10/5/16

2nd fill and still eating a lot?
juliansmom2003 replied to Lch8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is perfectly normal. Honestly, my meal size didn't really decrease until this last fill, which was my 5th. While I was eating considerably less than before having surgery, I still could eat about 8 to 10 ounces up until 2 weeks ago when I just got my 5th fill and I'm lucky if I can eat 4 ounces in one sitting now. You'll get there. It may take another fill, but you will get there. I hate saying this (almost as much as I hate hearing it LOL), but everyone is different, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the third time is the charm :-)! -
anyone want to buy an almost new (2mo old) bodybugg?
new_me_2008 posted a topic in Fitness & Exercise
THE BODYBUGG IS NOW SOLD - THANKS I have a body bugg which I purchased on Dec 1, 2007. I just do not use it although it is a great little gadget. I have one month or so left on the subscription which I would give who ever wants it the pw and user name...then you would just have to purchase the plan (everyone does) either monthly ~$9 or a whole year for $100...it is that simple. There would be no activation fees. I still have the box and everything - it is definately barely used - about 10 days of use or less, I would guess. Please PM me if you are interested. I will try to sell on ebay (where they are running about $200 for used ones) by the end of the week. I was hoping to get $175 from someone here who really could get more use out of it than I do. -
Bandages on wounds?
S(he) be(lie)ve(d) replied to knzt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My incisions were glued. There wasn't anything covering them. It was great! They all started to just fall off on their own around day 10. They were really low maintenance. Compared to other laparoscopic surgeries that I've had in the past, this was by far the best with regards to my incisions. -
Medical article - even out protein thru the day
macman replied to swimbikerun's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
This line of thinking fits with my current plan. I am at 80-90 grams of Protein a day. I usually begin the day with a Protein shake that has 25-30 grams of protein. My remaining meals have between 15-20 grams and two Snacks meet my daily requirements. It makes sense to spread out the amount of protein intake but what the article didn't state was that our bodies are not capable of absorbing huge amounts of protein at any one sitting. Absorption rates do vary by the kind of protein ingested. My understanding is that whey protein is among the best for absorption at about 10-15 grams per hour. So ingesting large amounts protein can end up as stored fat. -

Okay so the closer July 20th gets, the more I'm starting to 2nd guess whether or not I should get this done. I'm feeling like a failure, like there's something else that I could've done instead of this. I'm actually feeling kinda pathetic with my decision now. I've never had surgery and knowing that at 19 I'll have 5 scars marking me every day reminding me of how I failed and couldn't do it is making me feel really low:(

For openers -- the people who are telling you that you could die are crazy. Don't listen to them. Second, if you really want to worry about risks -- then make a list of all of your current medical conditions. If you don't face some of the potential risks invovled with the band now --- what is going to happen to you in 10 yrs? With the band you do have a decent chance of developing some type of discomfort and minor complicaiton soon or later that you will most likely be able to deal with. There is also always a small possbility it will be more compicated and that you may eventally have to have it out or revised. But thre's one thing for sure beyond any question ----- that is -- if you don't do something radical to lose the weight you have - you're defintely headed for extremely serious trouble. I got the band almost 5 yrs ago. I took care of it. I lost and kept off 80lbs. I have tired very hard not to play games with it and I usually manged to stay honest and real. People who don't do that are going to have trouble. Sometimes even people who are very good have trouble. All I can tell you is -- it's just unbelieveble to actually get your life back. I not only lost 80lbs and regained my health-- I feel like I turned the clock back 80 yrs! I'm 61 and people think I'm 40. I feel like 35. Look --- I"m not going to tell you that there are guarantee to the band ---- but there are definely guarantees to being morbidly obese.

Fatigue 6 weeks post op
gingeryank replied to InnerFitnessModel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You're not alone. I'm 6 weeks out tomorrow and sleep 10 hours a night. I'm exhausted. I take my Vitamins, too, and I aim for 800 calories a day. I struggle to get my Protein and Water in. I get in the bare minimum. I know I need more calories and hydration because I've started walking an hour a day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My surgeon said I could swim after 10 days - providing the incisions weren't sore or inflamed. I started swimming on day 11 and it's been great and seems to have helped the scars healing too. I agree with comments on pool swimming vs lake swimming. I also make sure I keep the scar sites well moisturised so they stay supple.
