Stepping on the scale.....
Kindle replied to Deleted Profile's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't own a scale, either. When I was losing, I only weighed at the doctors office, I think I stepped on the scale 5 times in the first 3-4 months. If you are following the plan you will lose whether you weigh yourself or not. I had a hundred NSVs confirming it. I've actually found the scale more useful once I was in maintenance. I step on the scale at work a couple times/month, especially after a vacation or holiday or particularly carby weekend. This is fully clothed, after Breakfast and coffee, so it's not 100% "accurate", but it gives me a general trend and good enough for accountability. The non-scale method has worked for me for almost 2 1/2 years and I Guarantee I had a less stressful time in the beginning than 90% of the people on here that obsess over the numbers....I just wish I had a buck for every scale related complaint on here. -
The Negative People Keep Coming Out Of The Woodworks
B-52 replied to lovebug_0766's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
People love a train wreck....or ever notice traffic backed up for miles because of an accident on the other side of the center median in the other lanes? News room saying...If it bleeds, it leads.... NO ONE knows I have had WLS except for immediate family....I just did not want to explain myself to everyone...it is something I needed to do, for myself, my health, and ultimately my Family..... So I received nothing but compliments during my journey, and no criticisms....and today, 3 years later, being fat is but a old memory to everyone, no one talks about it anymore, and all have accepted the fact, and take it for granted that I am what I am....a fit person without an oz of fat on me (as someone said yesterday) New people I meet never knew I was once over 100 lbs heavier, and the subject of me loosing weight is now old news, no longer something to talk about in the office............the ultimate NSV.... Ironically, the one family member who was my biggest critic with nothing but stories of failures......is one of the fattest people I know. And she keeps getting fatter!!!...she should not be the one throwing stones...but even she has now stopped talking about it seeing the entire process was 100% successful with zero complications..... -

Was this all a big waste of time...?
Nickilin replied to RANIA32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are sooo right about the NSV. I haven't lost a pound, well actually lost 3 or so the other day, but people swear I am "disappearing" befor their eyes:) Also I was able to comfortably wear an XL scrub pant last night. The first time in YEARS!!! -
Right now my current goals are: 1.) Have a weight loss of 70lbs by April 25th. I am at 61lbs down now. 2.) I also begin training to run a 5K on July 4th. My training starts April 2nd. It's so weird to think that I actually want to run  3.) I bought an XL tee-shirt that I want to wear by July. 4.) I want to have a "1" in front of my clothes size by this Fall. It's hard to think of any long term goals right now but I would love to be at goal this time next year. DH has promised me a clothes shopping spree for when that happens. So the motivation is there. I had a NSV last weekend when I was able to sit comfortably in a movie theatre seat with my jacket on I still had room to move around.

That is a nice NSV. Congrats!

Before I lost weight I was never cold; I was always warm/hot. No, cold is not the most comfortable situation, but to me, it is a celebration of change! I would rather wear a jacket, sweatshirt or even a coat (hardly EVER wore a coat before!) than almost 50 extra pounds for warmth! Besides, now I can sit in a ball on the sofa, reading or watching tv, with my feet under me and my knees drawn up because my belly is no longer in the way...as much. lol Any other 'weird' NSV's?

The little things you noticed about your weight loss
BetsyB replied to WrenBird's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was so excited when I discovered that a regular bath towel wrapped around me with inches to spare--that was a great day! I also love being all the way submerged in the bathtub. But the size 8 petite jeans I bought yesterday were probably the best NSV to date. -
happy camper peaking at older posts and saw your post wondering how you were doing??? little hijack update on my part............ per doc i couldn't drive for 6 months post surgery but, understandable driving all over doing this, that everything - being so happy since losing 45 more lbs (total 105) meds were slightly reduced again meds are necessary - no more reduction is possible - but the lower dosage is/was a wonderful unexpected NSV great weight loss for you happy keep up the good work kathy

Hey April 2013 Banders!! How is everyone doing? When were you banded? Happy with your loss so far? Any NSVs? Have you noticed a difference since your first fill?
-
I have been stalled for a couple weeks now. I had measured myself before surgery so just to check I measured again yesterday and, even though the pounds are the same, I'm down 2 1/2 inches! NSV!! Also, I've noticed I'm sleeping better and am down a size. It all made me feel a little better. Although I would really like at least a little love from my scale! Lol

Very good advice here. Measurements, NSVs, and PICTURES. I never saw how overweight I was until I looked at pictures someone took of me. Then I was really surprised and sad. Now pictures tell a different story. PROGRESS!!!

I can wear my daughters size 2 dress!!! No way I could have done this with my old boobs and stomach NSV!!!!

OK, I still want to lose a minimum of 35 lbs., so I'm not ready for a whole new wardrobe yet, but I have been getting pretty desperate for clothes. So, despite my cheapness, I decided I had to get a couple of new spring things that fit. I went to Target yesterday and found a pair of size 18 trousers that actually look good on me, then off to Lane Bryant, where the 16Talls did the trick. I got a couple of 14/16 blouses and lots of underpants (long overdue). So far so good. While in the lingerie section, I faced racks of lacy bras suitable for slinging grapefruits and cantaloupes, not the humble tangerines I've been carrying. I took a deep breath and asked one of the saleswomen if the store had anything that might fit, ahem, "women with no tits." She stared at the items in question and said, "just how small are we talking about here?" At this point I had lost all shame, so I just cupped my puppies over my baggy sweater. She squinted and screwed up her face. "We might have something that will work. Make them look bigger, I mean." She handed me a padded black number. I was skeptical, but off to the fitting room I went, and after some tricky hydraulic maneuvers I was locked and loaded -- with cleavage! Which I haven't had for 50 lbs.! So I am going to be strutting the girls high and with pride. . . never mind that I'm in my late 40s. I have to laugh at myself. Somehow I thought as my weight dropped I would regain the same shape I had years ago when I dieted down to various sizes. As I tried on old (and I mean old) clothes that used to fit me when I was this weight, I figured that the years in storage somehow affected fabrics, because items that glided right over my hips wouldn't fasten around my waist. Painful moments in the stores' full-length mirrors have persuaded me that the problem is not with the garments!

Hi all well guess what i knew i lost weight cause the scale says so but i haven't really noticed. But i had to get a new swimming suit. My old one that by the way last summer was almost to small now is way to big I can't even pretend to keep my breast were they are suppose to be at in there. So i thaught that was cool. I didn't think i had lost enough weight that my bathingsuit wouldn't fit so it was a nice surprise luckly my mom had a smaller one that fit.

@@n0ble199 Wow you look great!! Congrats! Today is my 3 months surgiversary! (Sleeved on 07/07/14) I've lost so far 39 lbs, and today for a tiny NSV -- I went to H&M and bought a cardigan because it's getting colder. I can wear a size M! M!! I almost couldn't believe it. An NSV at almost 15 months out? Wow... this is the life right here!
LilMissDiva Irene posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
It's been a long time since I've posted anything here. I just had to share this with you all... I went to Target today to buy a new pair of workout pants. I left the store with a size EXTRA SMALL. I wore a freakin Size 28 W pants when I first started my weight loss journey. Just so you know... it IS POSSIBLE!!! Keep your eyes on the prize, because even at 15 Months out I'm still making the magic happen. Much Love, Xoxo -
Hey Koala, I am so happy for you. You just described some of the nsv's that I hope will be coming for me too. I can't wait to go and buy cute clothes off the rack. Well done. You have worked hard for it too, the band was an aid. By the way I love Koalas too.:biggrin1: Susannah

Well, I am going to chime in on these great questions! What is your "Bandiversary" goal? I don't think I had one, but if I had to say, it would be to be to be only 10 lbs to goal. What have you learned this past year? That I am strong, that it is possible, that the weight did not define me, but it did change me, that I can be proud with being ego drivenand... that the support of those you love is the most important part of this entire equation. Could you share your most rewarding NSV (non-scale victory)? Wow... there have been so many buying jeans at GAP being hit on at restaurants being told that I have the vitals of an athlete running my 5 k race being asked to leave a support group, because it was for those with weight concerns (I had to explain) a colleague not recongnizing me... the best... my daughter telling me how fun it is to go sliding together What is your biggest challenge? not being over confident not spending too much money on new clothes (my latest addiction) What tips would you pass on to the April 2007 newbies? think of your band like a tool that will support you follow the rules add exercise when you think you can and know that you are human and we all make poor choices at times What is your greatest fear? gaining weight changing me too much people treating me differently What goals do you have for the future? get to the weight I am happy with run a 5 k in under 35 minutes keep running How has your life changed? wow... is there enough room to list them all??? easily buying clothes I like getting a taxi has never been easier I feel more comfortable in my body physically I can do what I want now without having to worry Has living with the band met up to your expectations? exceeded If you could talk to yourself a year ago, what would you say? It's okay... you will make this journey, you are ready to be in this place, it is where you are supposed to be... and you will be supported and you will be proud Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/191/179 exercise this month= 22

Great idea, BOO! What is your "Bandiversary" goal? To get into Onderland! 21 pounds to go til Onderland...wish me luck! What have you learned this past year? Food should remain a source of fuel, not a source of entertainment. Could you share your most rewarding NSV (non-scale victory)? Shopping for clothes in the regular section...I have NEVER done this, honestly. Even as a kid I had to wear "Pretty Plus" size from Sears! What is your biggest challenge? Social eating-DEFINATELY! I still haven't mastered this yet. I still get carried away when I'm at parties/social functions. What tips would you pass on to the April 2007 newbies? Eat, just eat good, healthy foods. What is your greatest fear? Never affording the plastic surgery I need to get rid of this excess skin. What goals do you have for the future? To hit my goal weight, of course! How has your life changed? In every possible way. Mainly, I've learned to take care of myself and set priorities to make my health a no-compromise concept! Has living with the band met up to your expectations? Yes and no. I'm proud of my success but this idea of "restriction" still hasn't set in and I have never experienced it for any extended period of time. If you could talk to yourself a year ago, what would you say? I'd say "You're doing the right thing...stick with the band and not the bypass." And, I'd throw in..."You need to excerise even more because it'll pay off!" HAPPY BANDIVERSARY CLASS OF '06!!
