Went back to work and everyone is saying how great I look. ( I shared with no coworkers ). Yea its bandster hell bit staying with it is so worth it.
  2. Ditto! I was banded 1/15/10 and I haven't lost any weight. In fact, I gained a few pounds right after surgery and lost it, but have gained it since! How is that possible??!! My Dr told me not to worry about it too, but come on!!!!

From the album: Pre Surgery Pics

After seeing a Nutritionalist for a few months! by this point I'd lost roughly 10 pounds.
  5. I have the same scenario. My paperwork was sent to my insurance company on 10/14/08 and I'm still waiting. My surgery has not been scheduled yet. I hope it will be soon.

    Passing My Tests...

First, I did like you attend a seminar. Next I made an appointment with the surgeon. After that initial meeting, he said I was a canidate. Yeah!!. Next thing is 6 months (continuously, with no breaks) of medically supervised diet. That meant I had to see my doctor every month for 6 months and tell him I was on a diet and exercising. They document your weight and that's it. Then after I needed a Psychological Evaluation. After that I needed to see a Dietician/Nutritionist. Then I was complete. Next step was to tell my surgeon I completed the 6 months. My insurance requested 5years of medical history with weight documentation and list co-morbidities. Once my surgeon received all that which took about a month, they submit to my insurance and it took 5 days for the first denial then 2 days after my appeal I was APPROVED!!!. I have been on Optifast since 2/19. Preop testing took avout an hour, which included bloodwork, EKG, & Chest Xray. I see the surgeon on 3/3 for my preop visit and on TUESDAY< MY LIFE WILL BE BETTER. All in all it took almost 1 year. Only because I had a break of the 6mons of visits, which I didn't know I did until I completed the first 6 visits and they advised me that on month 5 the doctor didn't write that I was there for weight management. SOOOOOO, I had to start my 6 months all over again....it was a bummer, but look at me now. Hope this helps you. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR JOURNEY!!!!

    Pre-Op Struggles!

Your lucky you get solids, I'm on only liquids for 10 days. I'm struggling
  8. Hi folks, I just got banded on Friday, Feb 29, 2008. I have been in clear fluids since and I've gotten rid of gas pain with gas-X. Same experience with you guys, I feel a little sore in the port area. Since, I had only been taking clear fluids a day before surgery and after, I've lost 10 lbs and I haven't had the feel of hunger yet. Tomorrow, I will be sipping my first 2 ounces of slim-fast or ensure. I feel great. The only thing is that I have some pain in my nape area. Sort of feels like a stiff neck pain. Is this normal?

  10. Highest weight and starting weight: 206 lbs Goal weight: 125 lbs Current weight: 116 lbs I'm 5'2". I consider 116 my new "goal" I guess. I'm happy here and don't want to gain even though it is 9 pounds under my original goal weight. I had surgery January 9, 2013. It took me 10 months to reach original goal of 125. I'm not sure what else got me here besides the sleeve except major determination and willpower.
  11. Just wondering how everyone is doing 8 months post-op. I had a good 6 month follow up with doc who said I am on track. I got a FitBit for my bday and it is pretty awesome at tracking my fitness, sleep patterns, hydration and caloric intake/burn. I highly recommend it just because it really gives a great visual of what you are doing! Doc says to aim for 25 more lbs by 1st anniversary. I was plateauing every 10 lbs, lose the 10 fast then plateau again. It seems the plateaus are longer now, but my clothes are getting too big for me still, so although the scale doesn't show it, I know my body is still changing and maybe it's turning fat into muscle. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Highest was 261, pre surgery 241, current 173. I was walking 3 miles twice a week and last week walked at least 2 miles each day for 7 days! I was on vacation though. Now that it's back to reality and work, I am going to aim for 3-4 times a week, adding hills for the cardio portion.I have found many nodules, pea sized to marble sized on my outer thighs, neck, and calves which I assume are lipomas, but have an appt with regular MD to look into this. Anyone else have these? The are a little painful with pressure. I still can only eat a few bites...of anything. My doc wants me to just eat 3 meals a day, but I think I'd die. I wouldn't get enough nutrients with as little as I eat. I personally think eating 5 times a day is fine, especially because I am eating healthy. I still have trouble with meat of any kind. I used to love Water, it's all I drank, but post surgery it has a funny taste to me and is not as satisfying as it used to be...weird huh? Anyone else? I know tastes and preferences change post surgery, but water?! I feel like my stomach will never be the same again and I have just gotten used to the new feelings/limits. I love fruits, nuts, vegetables, yogurt. I take Vitamin B12 daily and should take multi-vites daily but I often forget that one. I have a really bad case of reflux...worse since surgery and oh my is it painful sometimes. I would like to hear how everyone is doing, if you are having the same issues, or any info you want to share about how you are managing your activity, diet, etc. Have any of you looked into the skin removal step? I am on the fence as to whether I will do that or not. Any thoughts? Hope all of you July sleevers are doing well. -PZ

    Lap Band Friendly Veggies?

Trial and error, unfortunately. I went through a period where my band was too tight for lettuce. I nixed that. Defeats the purpose. I do have trouble with a good amount of fruits and veggies. My solvent has literally been to eat very small amounts, frequently. IE i can eat grapes... but only like 6-10 at a time. Same goes for green Beans, etc. If I have trouble with something (veggies) made one way, I'll try them another way. Most of the time I can figure out a way to make them easier to get down.
  13. Oh wow that's a great Question, I was wondering the same thing as I have 5 kids 10, 5, 3, and two 1 year olds and all I have is my husband for about 7 days because my family members don't know yet and don't live near me. Just praying I will be fine after the 7 days so I can take over, which means taking kids to dance, gymnastics, Catechism and everything else around the house.

    Moms With Young Children....

My doctor said I can't lift more than 5 pounds for the next 3 weeks. Also, that I can't drive. I'm hoping the driving thing goes along with the taking narcotic pain meds and not the actual surgery. I haven't taken the prescribed pain meds in several days and think I would be fine driving. But, I haven't needed to yet. I only have a 10 year old son, he is extremely self sufficient, even makes his own meals. So, I haven't had to worry about lifting anything.

  16. Hi everyone! I was banded on December 3rd and I did a pre op diet for two weeks as well as a three day liquid pre op right before surgery. My doc didn't require the two week, but from what I read it seemed it would make it easier on my body. I lost about 10 lbs doing that and then I have lost another 15 since the day before I was banded. I am pretty stoked. However, I have read A LOT on here about how you shouldn't focus on weight loss in the beginning. I know that now is a time for healing. I have been taking it easy and following the diet regimen I was given. But I guess I am nervous. I have read that I should anticipate a gain when I am given the okay for more solid food. So can you guys give me an idea how much I may gain back? Is it a definite that you gain back some? Because I plan to eat the same type things I have been, just not blended. Anyhow, please share your storeis! Thanks! ~Mya
  17. Does any one have to use these? We are required to use it and it is very expensive. I have been onthe preop diet now for 10 days and the flavors of shake soup and pudding are not bad over all. Just costly. I don't see many people using them on here.

    Popcorn

Have you guys ever heard of Puffcorn? I think that it is a "cheetos" product. Anyway, it looks and tastes like popcorn, but the pieces are really "manufactured" so it's not real popcorn, therefore no hulls, etc. The pieces sort of disolve in your mouth, they are light and airy. 1 serving is like 48 pieces and is 160 calories. (I have one daughter who LOVES puffcorn...lol) I imagine you could eat about 10 pieces and count it as part of your carb intake. Not that I'm recommending you eat it. I am quite sure there are no redeeming qualities and that this would surely qualify as junk-food. But maybe ask your NUT about it, if it could help with your craving for popcorn. I agree popcorn is a slippery slope. JUST think about how big those tubs are at the movie theater...how everyone can just easily chow down on that much popcorn!!!

    Jan 31,2017

I had surgery 1/19 lost 48 lbs already. I feel great I can definitely run more and work out more. People can definitely see my progress but I guess it's harder for me to see it. Sometimes I still feel like I haven't lost 48 lbs. it's weird anyone else feel like that?

    Some general nutrition questions

Interesting bc I find artificial sweeteners too sweet! My nutritionist and I have an understanding... Eat tasty food that is nutritious and REAL. I focus on using purer ingredients when I can. For instance, I'd rather get jam that has seeds in it and its ingredient list is fruit!...rather than a less caloric and/or sugary 'jam' that has 10 ingredients. That's just an example. I focus on about 80 carbs a day, >50 protein, and <30 grams fat. I do not obsess over this though and find when I focus on protein and veggies the numbers even out. And i have dark chocolate almost every day too! So my suggestion is to find a nut who can help you figure out a plan that works for you. Eat real food and listen to your new stomach...good days and bad days will be had but overall focusing on quality is def working for me (but may not be the key for you). Good luck!

    Implants

I had mine in Mexico, too, but my surgeon's office is always available via phone and email. Do you have any contact info for yours? But basically, there are many different thoughts on the whole post sleeve NSAID debate. Some say no NSAIDS ever and I've read posts from some on here that take ibuprofen daily. And then there's everything in between. We just have to be careful because of the gastric irritation and ulcers that NSAIDS can cause. I was assured that occasional use was not a problem. And in fact, I was actually sent home with 5 days of a sublingual NSAID. My surgeon feels that the benefit of reducing surgical inflammation immediately postop outweighs the risk of ulcers. And like I said, he advised taking a PPI like omeprazole if I had to take NSAIDS for an extended period of time. I actually just had this conversation with him (via email) two weeks ago because my PCP wanted me to take 10-14 days of an NSAID or steroid (which can also cause gastric irritation) for a compressed nerve in my neck. I ended up taking the steroid and Prilosec.

    Insurance Approval Received

hello! wow you live in huntersville? I work there! So im in the process of getting a lap band (I hope). I had my initial consult, had my labs, got the 5-year weight history, and have my psych consult and nutritionist consult on Monday. From my undertanding it will take 10 days to get the psych report back and then it will all be submitted to BCBSNC for approval. two questions:: ON my 5 year history, it shows that I have had weight problems (40+) for 3 years, but not 5. Will that hurt me? Also, how long after the info was submitted did it take you be approved?? Thanks for any info!!

    Newbie But Not Sweating It.

Hi Patti ! I was also banded by Dr Lopez-Corvala on 8/19/11, also great experience, specially that it was my first surgey ever !!! Are you also going back to get your adjustments there? Since my surgery I've only needed two adjustments, I'm down 69 lbs and down from a size 20 to a size 12 I'm working on dropping another 20 lbs to be in a normal BMI. Good luck on your weight lost journey!!! Lunad

    Need advice before monday please

Pati, I would go for the two year deal. No one knows how many fills you will need. I have had 5 fills and one unfill in 19 months. You would be better off with someone who will offer you a program for your first two years that is local. You may not need more than 1-2, but most bandsters need 3-5 in their first year during ongoing weight loss. The need for a fill should slow down as you get closer to goal. So that would be my advice.
