    Driving myself crazy......

I think it sounds like too few calories. Your body will think it's not getting enough and it might backfire on you. How long ago were you banded? I think after two or three weeks after I was banded (09/08/10), I started trying different foods. I've not had a problem eating anything, I just make sure I chew whatever it is I am eating, really well and it seems to work. Good luck to you.

    Hi from Louisville KY

I haven't attended the second one yet but I will on 10/28. I wish I knew..... I attended a seminar at Norton Suburban that Dr. Geller gave. I talked to Dr. Shina's office (also part of Norton Suburban) they said that I had to go to a second seminar. So to answer your question I'm attending the second one because my PCP refered me to Dr. Shina and his office said that I had to attend a daytime seminar as well as the night time one. One good thing I guess is that I see the surgon the same day.

Little weight loss during pre op diet

I have the same surgery date! We only do a 10 day liquid diet (we are limited to 1 protein shake a day for the first 5 days and clear liquids after that), but I am on day 6. I think it has everything to do with how much water you were retaining before you began and how much water you are drinking to flush out the bloating. If you weren't retaining much, you don't lose as much. If you don't drink lots of water, you aren't getting rid of it. I was super bloated and hormonal when I began, so I had an initial drop. However, I got dehydrated, so the scale stopped moving. I pushed a ton of water yesterday and lost 6 pounds overnight. I can already tell that water will be my big challenge after surgery!

    Post Op Diet

I was recently banded 9 days ago and I am worried that I have blown the initial recommended diet. I have to say that I am down 10 lbs in the first week, just Water I'm sure. The first 5 days I just had Clear liquids including broth till I was full but I got hungry alot. Let me also mention that in this entire process I havent felt a bit of pain or nausea or anything. I wonder if I even have a band in me! Anyways, on the 6th day I started eating cream of chicken Soup and even had a couple small bites of fish with no trouble what so ever. I even eat the entire can of soup without incedent. I do feel full when doing so if that is any consolation. My big question is, is the post op diet really mandatory? It seems written for those who have trouble adjusting to the band but for me it seems to be no probs what so ever? Have I ruined everything by doing this? Is there any hope for me? I also worry about the "Diet". If I had the will power to diet prior to the band, I wouldnt have needed the band? Any thoughts??? Thanks

    fluid retention

Yeah, 17.5 lbs gained with surgery, about 5 days out, got to surgury weight, now 10 under. I still feel fatter now than I did before going in, belly still a bit puffy, and can't wear my jeans (which were totally loose and falling off before) Thank goodness I picked up a few summer dresses or I would be running around in robes! I babied myself with drinking that first week, and realized a few days ago, I can actually swallow about 1/2 an oz at a time now. belching is getting father apart, and if I feel like I have a "clog" or belch coming, I just stand up and walk around to get everything moving. Good luck!!

  8. Hey guys! I'm making my list and checking it twice for my post-op Vitamins. I've been using a complete Multivitamin for years, but it's a huge pill, so I need to switch to something chewable. I've looked at gummy vitamins at the store, but they are expensive for what you get. Considering my normal vitamins are $8 for a 3 month supply, paying $10 for a one month supply is outrageous to me, and what I've looked they have less vitamins per serving that my current generic vitamins. But looking around, I'm just getting confused about what I need to be taking, and where to get the most for my money... So, please, tell me what you're taking, where you get it and how much it costs. I'm a 32 year old female, what do I need to take? Here's what I was planning for: A multivitamin Biotin B-12 sublingual Calcium with Vitamin D I'd also like suggestions for the calcium/vit D, because I'm not taking that currently, so I don't know what to look for or how much to take. Do I have to take chewables forever? Or can I go back to my pills when I'm fully healed from surgery? Thanks all for the input!
  9. I've been walking since I got back from the hospital. I'm now walking on the treadmill since walking outside bores the heck out of me. I'm now up to 3.1 mph and 3% ramp elevation for 30 min 2x a day- works out to about 3 miles a day. But today, as I was 10 min into my walk, I felt soooo tempted to break into a jog! I had so much energy and I wanted to do more than I was doing. I'm sure my surgeon would frown on it until I'm further out, but it feels awesome to feel like I want to- and could do running! I've never been a runner, but I can't wait until I'm cleared to do more stuff! Running, crew, Zumba, ballroom dancing here I come- and maybe even hiking!
  10. Today I have managed to get in 40 grams of protein from my morning shake and the rest from food!!!!!!! I am thrilled and hopeful that I can keep it up so I don't have to suffer through 2 or 3 shakes a day. It was also easier to drink today. Hallelujah , there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Keep the faith!
  11. Ok i have a cold I'm trying to get rid of fast and I have to lose 10 pounds before Feb 14 to have surgery any suggestions. I can't do full liquid diet because it would throw my thyroid number off. Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App

    Liquid Diet Has Commenced!

Amanda, we are so in the same boat. I did the 3 month insurance required diet and lost, but the whole time I just kept telling myself I was making better choices and choosing to eat smaller portions - I never really had a hard time with it and didn't have that "I'm STARVING" feeling, like I do on most diets. I had my pre-op on Wednesday and my pre-op diet consists of 3 or 4 replacement/protein shakes and a small Lean Cuisine type dinner. I tried to do some of it on Wed night, but didn't go so well. So on Thursday and Friday I tried to follow it, and now I feel like I'm STARVING! When I was on the 3 month diet I hardly ever felt hungry, went hours between my morning shake and lunch shake without a problem, and now I can barely go 15 minutes without thinking of something I can have, or feeling the need to eat. My stomach is rumbling and I'm grouchy and I feel like I did on every diet before. :-( My doctor wants me to lose 10 pounds in 7 days - I thought it would be easy, but since I lost over 20 pounds already that quick weight loss isn't happening now. Hopefully it will be fine no matter what - the nurse said since I've already lost a lot and I'm not that big anyways (one of the ONLY times I've ever heard that for many years!!!!) that even just a few pounds should be fine. Oh, and adding to the stress of a starvation diet I now have PMS, and I can't take anything but Tylenol. Or alcohol. I feel bad for my family having to live with me for the past couple of days. Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one having a hard time with this. Yesterday I ate about 1-2 cups of pistachios....definitely NOT on my pre-op diet. ~Kelly <3

    Not fair!

men metabolize different than women so they tend to lose faster and also the heavier a person is the first to go is always water so the weight loss at first can go faster then it slows when you are working off the fat. I lost 40lbs first month at 10 lbs a week first month then it slowed to about 2 lbs a week.
  14. They suggest that you don't drink from a straw because when you suck the straw the first thing you get before the drink is air. Alot of people have trouble because the air bubble gets stuck same with chewing gum you take in alot of air. Now I'm 10 months out and I can do both. So take it easy to start and see how you do....good luck
  15. I've read conflicting info on which bmi is healthiest. One study said low in the range is usually best unless you're muscular, another said 22 is good. Another said 19 is most attractive (sheesh). I am shooting for 22, but just curious on everyone's thoughts...

    First Fill Tomorrow afternoon!!!

Glad to hear your first fill went okay. I actually had a little tiff with my dr's office this morning. I called to confirm my appt on the 5th and first they didn't even have me down:angry:. Then I asked if my surgeon would be doing it and they said "more than likely", well I hit the roof. I will not be getting a fill on the 5th unless its my surgeon. This band is my baby! Backstory- I haven't seen my surgeon since I had surgery on Jan 7, when I had my 1 week followup I only saw him in the hallway. The nurses did my followup. 1 nurse in particular, I guess she's like the head office nurse now is the one that does the followups. She also does all the emergency calls during the week. Well, the phone girl said that she does fills when my doc can't for any reason. I told her that I was a self-pay patient and I was not comfortable with that at all. I choose my surgeon because of HIS reputation, not his office staff. Well, that went over real well. About 10 minutes later said nurse calls me at work, trying to explain to me all the training and such that she has had and how she has specific patients that request her for fills.
  18. I have to take them for 10 days post op, I am on day 5 and I have bruises every where! One that especially annoying is on my wrist where they did a blood gas draw day 2 and now the bruise that started out small and round in crawling down my wrist and hurts. Do you think the bruising should be something to worry about or is it normal?

    not patient, not happy

I found out today that it will be a week or two before I get my results from the first round of Cushing's testing. I can't help but pitch a big hissy fit at the thought of waiting two whole weeks for my test results. Dr. E will be out of town until next Monday, and I'll be back in Idaho by then. It just feels so far away, not only in time but space as well. I see a new PCP tomorrow, my doc has moved to Everette, and that is just too far to go. I've been with her about 10 years, but I was thinking it was time to move on to a different doctor, since she wasn't really taking me seriously anymore. I mean, I had sleep apenea and serous sleep problems and I basically had to twist her arm to get it taken care of. She wanted to blame most of my issues on "needs therapy" as opposed to really wanting to find the cause. I am just feeling so sorry for myself lately. Monday I ended up in the ER with another bout of celulitus. And my headache has gotten worse. Probably from all the stress from the Cushing's and decideing to quit school for now. Pain makes things worse. It just does. I feel anxious and stressed. I'm out of the lexapro, so I guess I need to get that refilled. Duh. I miss my pilaties ball. How funny is that? I started to use a new drawing book, "drawing on the Right side of the brain." it's pretty interesting. A very different way of looking at things, much more an adult program than the Mark Kistler books.

    I'm back....

HI all..........I had my surgery on the 31st of may. I stayed in Tacoma for a week because we live so far away. Week check up was great lost 9 lbs. so that is 18 lbs. in 18 days. (had to do 10 days of clear liquid before surgery and now 3 weeks of clear liquids) Feeling great and just taking it easy to recover from the surgery. Nice to be home...Tacoma is great but too many trees I am used to open spaces.
  22. I only work out for 10-20 mins 5x a week. I eat 1000 or so cal a day at 6 months out. Still slowly losing. i only eat about 50-60 g carbs a day. 60g protein and I try for more. Over 50% of what I eat is fat. And steadily losing, no stalls longer than a week except one time around month 3.
  23. Hello everyone!! I am just a month post-op now and have lost 34 pounds already, so I am thrilled with my progress so far. I know this was the right decision for me, and although I am only one month out, I am concerned about what my body will look like once I am down to the weight I want to be. I know I will have saggy skin/chest, and I knew that was a strong possibility before I decided to have the surgery. Its not something that would have ever changed my mind though. I have watched so many shows about people having skin revision surgeries, and they seem to be in so much pain!! I have had 10 surgeries in my life, so I am no stranger to pain, but, I just don't know if I want to put myself through it. Here are the surgeries I have had: 1) broke my leg in high school so had to have a rod put in my femur 2) had a bone infection for almost a year, so after my leg was healed, they took the rod out 3) c-section 4) c-section (and to add, my boobs are already saggy because of these 2 children, LOL!) 5) gallbladder removed 6) lumbar laminectomy with fusion 7) got infection from the back surgery, so they opened me up to clean it out 8) had to go back in again because of the infection 9) had cyst removed from my palm 10 gastric sleeve My back surgeries were by far the most painful surgeries I have ever been through, but skin revision surgery really scares me. I don't know what I will look like once I am done, but I can only imagine I will need a lot of work. If I do anything, it probably would only be my stomach and a breast lift. I would probably just live with my arms and legs. The gastric sleeve surgery was probably the easiest surgery I have ever had...that and the cyst removed from my palm. The only pain I really had from the sleeve was from lying on my back for the 2 days I was in the hospital. I cannot lie on my back anymore (comfortably) since I have had my back surgery, so that caused quite a bit of pain. The gastric sleeve itself was almost painless. Anyway, long story short, I was wanting to hear from people who have had skin/chest revision surgeries, and how the pain was for them. I know everyone is different, but I was just interested to hear some stories and if people would recommend it, or say it wasn't worth it. Thanks in advance to everyone!

    No Concept Of My Size...

I feel the same way!! I am weirded out when people call me small. or when a size 10 fits. I walk around feeling like I am still a 22 most of the time. Or think people are staring at my like I am still the "big girl"
  25. From what I've been reading here, it's different for everyone, but 10 days would have been fine for me and I'm 62.
