  1. Hi all, I was sleeved 5 weeks ago(tomorrow). I have lost 19 lbs since surgery. I am hoping I am in the dreaded 3 week stall (for 2 weeks) and not messing up my chances of losing this weight. I have been getting the majority of my protein from protein drinks still and eating very small amounts of soft protein sources. I also have been eating ALOT of popsicles. Both sugarfree and regular. I didn't realize that the popsicles had 8 carbs each until I looked today. Would having my carb intake too high be causing me not to lose? I am getting in between 50 and 60 oz of water and 70+ grams of protein almost every day. I am starting to worry that my beloved popsicles are messing me up. Any words of wisdom would be so greatly appreciated. I started on myfitnesspal.com today as some other gals in my class are doing the same. I kept my calories just below 500 and my carbs were 22. I try to exercise every day but this past week has been pretty spotty. Usually I swim a mile. I am getting scared...is all this surgery and recovery going to be worth it?? I had the sleeve and then 9 days later I had to have my gallbladder out so it has been a slow recovery. I still don't have all my energy back but it is getting better. Thank you all for the encouragement, wisdom and help!!! We newbies REALLY appreciate it!

    the dreaded stall

Hi Kerry, Today is my 1 month surgiversary and I haven't lost anything notable in the last two weeks. It is very frustrating. I am going today for my 1 month follow up visit so I will see what they say but I am trying to remain positive that this is just the "3 week stall" situation and I will start losing again soon. Hang in there.

  4. I think it's just that dreaded 3 week stall (or thereabouts) and no matter what you eat or don't eat is not gonna stop it till it's ready to stop. The good thing is, those stalls always break, and you will be losing again in no time. Good luck to you
  5. okay so im a little over 3 weeks and i have stalled now for well over a week..ive actually gained 3 lbs. i dont understand what the heck is going on!!! is it normal to stall this long? and after the first stall does the weight start to come off as fast as the begining or is it normally slower? I know i could be not eating enough but man this is very discouraging!!! i am having a hard time with this..i just keep feeling like im going to be overweight all my life and still never eat normal...not that i want to pig out but just saying if im not loosing weight i might as well eat like an overweight person...I know that im being silly and emotional but i go to the gym everyday and im going to start back to Zumba tomorrow night...surely this is just the normal 3 week stall but im just afraid it should have been over already!!! any advice or maybe if anyone else has been through this could shed some light would be great..thanks yall!!!
  6. My story is almost identical to yours. I had a 3 week stall and then some. I was sleeved on April 4 and lost a lot at first then May hit. I knew it was going to be a challenge. The 15th my daughter graduated from College in Chicago, so we spent a 4 day weekend there. On the 22nd we went down-state Michigan for a memorial service for my wife's brother and then 3 days ago, one of my best friends got married. So it has been a lot of travel and crap. On May 8th I weighed 200 even and I actually somewhere in there went up to 204. Last week I went to the surgeon's office and I broke the 200 at 199. About 2 1/2 months before surgery I started physical therapy. My doc. thought it was sciatica, the therapist thought it was the piriformis muscle, but the MRI showed I have a pinched nerve at S1. So I haven't been able to exercise much at all. I am seeing the neuro-surgeon about it tomorrow and having an epidural on Thursday. The pinched S1 causes the muscles in my calves to cramp up and the muscles in my buttocks hurt a lot so even a recumbent bike isn't an option at this point. But I am learning to be gentle with myself.....this things shall pass and the weight will come off. Don :P:P:P
  7. Hi Everyone, I'm new to this but I thought maybe you all could help me out. I was sleeved on May 9, 2011 so I'm 4 weeks out and I'm still in pain on my right side. Mainly from the main surgical site the Dr took my tummy out from. I still have to hold my tummy up to walk around, to allievate the pain I feel.. I have not take pain meds since my first week home, and really don't want to take them either. Since surgery I have only lost 18 pounds. Have not lost anything all of last week. I guess the dreaded 3 week stall... I'm getting enough fluids in, I'm not yet up to 80grams of Protein, just can't fit that much in yet, but I'm now averaging 45 to 60 grams, so I'm getting there. I want to start walking and get in some exersize, but I'm just in way to much pain, even taking a shower causes me a great deal of pain that I need to rest afterwards. Did any of you experiance this pain so many weeks out and do you have any ideas on how I can heal faster? Thanks so much, Kim
  8. ...I had my VSG done on May 9th. I lost 20 lbs preop and 11.6 since surgery. I have not lost any weight for 9 days!!! I've heard of the dreaded 3 week stall but I've not lost since May 20th!! I've tried changing up my diet, drinking 64 oz of Water, adding one Protein shake a day but nothing has changed my weight. I haven't begun a formal exercise program but I have been out walking quite a bit just with being active and going places. I'm getting discouraged and wonder if I'll be the person the VSG doesn't work for!!!! Please help with any advice you can give!!!
  9. onderland her I am, broke the horrible 3 week stall. Yahoooo

  10. I had my 1 month visit yesterday and only lost 3 lbs since my 2 week visit. He told me I was doing great. I told him that the 3 lbs is since the begining of week 3 and he told me about the 3 week stall. I started laughing becuase of course I have READ ALL ABOUT IT! Like everyone said if you are doing low carb you need to up your fat. I have problems with fat so I am doing low fat with more carbs. Mind you that there are two things that I refuse to compromise on when I do do fat and that is butter and mayo. everything else i can live with. That is great about the diabeties. I too have stopped taking my meds for that. Since I started on the mushies and there are more carbs in it, I have had to start a 1/2 dose of the glipizide, but thats ok too because I am on the softs now and its all about the protein. So I expect that to go away again too. Your doc is a jerk to make you feel like that. Just saying. Keep up the great work!

    Stinking stall

You are right on the edge of the 3 week stall. Most people have this happen. You can search it on here. There are few that don't go through it.

    Fab 40's shout out

Hi everyone! I am 44, or as I like to joke 29 with 15 years experience hahaha. I am married with a 13 year old son who is the best kid in the world, not that I am biased or anything. My hubby has been so wonderful and supportive through out this process and I couldnt be luckier. I was sleeved on 4/27 and am at the dreaded 3 week stall but not sweating it because I have read so much about it and expected it wasnt going to pass me by. Love the sleeve, love the weight loss, love not having to take so many pills. I have to say that I love this forum also, everyone is so supportive and helpful. Makes this whole thing a little bit easier. One thing for sure is that I have substituted my addiction to food with an addiction to this forum. LOL I am in Charlotte, NC via NYC, anyone close by? Happy Birthday to all that have had and Happy Journey to everyone here!

I was on 4/27 and I am at the 3 week stall too. Because I know its common from reading about it here I'm not going to sweat it too much.

My guess is that the answer to question one is that you are at the 3 week stall. If you search stalls, you will find that ALOT of people hit a stall right around the 3 week mark. Mine lasted about 8 days and then I was back to losing weight. I can't help with question 2. Good luck!

    Need serious help!

I didn't have a 3 week stall, but I did have a stall at around 7 weeks. Then the weight just started dropping off again. That's why it is a good idea to not weigh every day. I know it seems impossible (it does to me) but if you could only weigh every 2 weeks, you would have a great big loss and you would never even notice that little stall in there. In other words, even if you don't lose for a while, it WILL come off in the end, so it all evens out eventually. It's nice to see those numbers go down, but when they don't, it sucks. So, weighing less often can only give you GOOD news!

    Need serious help!

Hey Stacy, sounds like the classic 3 weeks stall to me. Most of us will lose really well for the first and second week combined. Majority of the weight lost is Water however. From the 3rd week on, our bodies start adjusting to what we are feeding it (in this case, what we aren't). It also starts to hold on to everything we put in, including water. It makes perfect sense that we stall out for a few weeks at this time. You will probably just have to wait it out. You seem to be doing really well from what I've read. I'd only add maybe an extra 16 oz water bottle to your day to help start things flushing out again. Also, are you doing any type of physical activity? You're still fresh out of surgery so I wouldn't suggest anything demanding at all, but a light walking routine daily might help. Perhaps a few sessions of 15 minutes per day (you might tire easily this early out, I did!!!). Walking and now running are my #1 workouts because when I'm doing this and pushing myself, I'm losing! You also have to keep positive as you can! Look at the glass half full... and I know everyone's heard this a million times. Weight loss is such a roller coaster ride, but just as we're taking care of our outside, we have to take care of the inside too. How much have you lost? Are you down any sizes yet? Try to find little gems to keep you on the bright side... I know personally it's not always easy. Wishing you the very best! Hang in there. Your stall will pass!!!
  18. I've searched and searched this 3 week stall thing, but I'm not getting the answers I need and desparately need the help of my pro sleevers please!! I'm working on my 4th week of being sleeved. I'm on full liquids which include creamed Soups, yogurt, cottage cheese, cream of wheat, etc. Since last monday the scale has not moved at all!! I'm stuck and need some advice. (I dont weigh everyday. I weight about every other day or every 3 days.) This week is the first time I've been able to actually get water/fluids/thick fluids down with ease! I've been struggling getting all my 64oz of Water in and my 80g of Protein a day. But yesterday was great and I was able to drink all my fluids and consume all my protein. Here is what I have scheduled for todays menu: Morning: Bariatric Hot Chocolate- 15g protein, 80cal BF: Zoi greek yogurt w/splenda- 11g protein, 100cal Drink throught the day: Syntrax nectar Cappachino- 20oz, 48g protein, 0cal L: 6oz of cream of potatoe Soup blended- 2g protein, 120cal S: Premier Protein shake- 30g protein, 160cal D: blended cottage cheese w/seeded cucumber & tomatoe- 14g protein, 100cal Plus about 3 16oz bottles of water throughout the day as well. So, my question is... where am I going wrong? What can I do to help move the scales and my pants sizes along?? I'm getting discouraged and a bit frustrated! I'm following the plan to a "T" and I'm getting most of my essentials in. I just dont know what's wrong!! I understand that my body is still healing and I need to give it time, but I expected a little movement since the past 2 wks. At least something!! Please HELP!!!! Where is TIFFYKINS or LILMISSDIVA???

    April Update from everyone

Feeling much better today! I was able to drink all my hot protein chocolate cocoa, cream of potatoe soup, and just had about 6 small bites of refried beans for lunch! I have already finished a 16oz bottle of water and am working on a 20oz protein drink (cappachino flavor). This is the first day since my surgery that I have actually been able to eat this much and drink too! OMG, maybe this sleeve is actually gonna work?! Lets just hope my 3 week stall from last week doesnt carry over into this week too!! ugh... I've been stuck at the same exact weight since last monday. no movement. I'm increasing my fluids and calories so lets hope that works!!

    April Update from everyone

4 weeks out today and down 25 pounds. I hit the 3 week stall at 2 weeks and the scale only started moving again on Friday. Been doing a lot of walking. Still having some pain in my stomach and when I swallow but I go back to see my dr on Wed and will talk to him about the pain then. Getting dressed in the morning is taking twice as long because clothes that fit me a few weeks ago dont fit me anymore. its nice to clean out my closet a bit though. lol. Glad everyone is doing pretty well. Cant believe it been a month already for so many of us! Keep up the good work!!!!!

    Feeling Lost

Keep reading posts here... you will find post after post stating liquids do not give you restriction like solids. This makes sense yes? the liquids go on through... after your sleeve swelling goes down, it goes down even quicker. When you get to solids, the restriction will hit you in the face...hard. Also, do not compare yourself and your results to any one else... especially someone who is losing a TON of weight quickly or someone who is at the extreme of anything. Your body will do its own thing, just follow Drs orders, drink your water, walk/exercise and get in your protein. Do not worry how long it takes, just do it. Your body will change as time goes and you will have different problems later than you have now. Live in the truth, not in your expectations! There is also a 3 week stall that many people get, do not FREAK about this if it shows up... just search for it here... you will find a ton of company there too....relax.
  22. Oh no!! The 3 week stall is extremely common. I experienced it. I think it's your body adjusting to the new diet and starting mushies/pureed foods. I lost another pound so hopefully, my weight loss pause is over. Take care, Jenn

    April Update from everyone

Ok ya'll... 18 days post-op and on full liquids! Man, I simply cant get anything thick down!! I was really looking forward to the yummy chocolate Protein shakes that I bought plenty of and NOPE... not going down well at all. I havent been able to drink not one! I have been able to eat about 3oz of blended cream of mushroom Soup, cream of broccoli, and cream of potatoe. And, this morning, by the Luck of the Irish, I was able to finish an entire greek yogurt blended w/some SF jelly!!! I was so proud of myself!! I'm still slow to get all my fluids in. I'm still coming up short on the 64oz as well as the 80g of protein. I am getting a little heartburn now! And, am sad to say, I have officially hit the "3 week Stall" everyone talks about! My scale has not moved all week!! How are you all doing????
  24. Are you guys outta your stall yet? I'm at week 3 and haven't lost a pound since Monday. I am totally prepared for the 3 week stall everyone goes through but I'm on full liquids and am having a lot of issues getting anything think down. I'm able to get blended creamed Soup, blended greek yogurt, and nectar Protein Water... but that's seriously it! I'm not even close to getting 64oz of fluids in, and maybe get 60g of protein in a day.... I'm so sad! I was so excited to drink my yummy chocolate Protein shakes, but NOPE, they dont go down! So, I was just wondering if ya'll were able to break your stall and at which week did it break? For me, it's not like I can up my calorie intake, or increase protein, etc. I have come to accept the fact that it's gonna take me a while longer to move through the stages. But any advice would be appreciated!!
  25. I hope its a stall but I dont think I ever had a 3 week stall...even when I lost with lapband. They usually lasted a week. Fingers crossed.....thanks.
