  1. VGSmommy, good for you. Sounds like you have hit the "dreaded 3 week stall". I did last week. It sure was discouraging. Keep up the hard work.

    VSG Stall 1 week post-op

I read a lot about the "3 week stall", but thought I was too early for that. Maybe not. I also wanted to be sure I'm not doing something wrong or missing anything. Just shocked that a 300lb guy taking in 4-500 calories and exercising can maintain and not lose. I guess I need to be more patient.

    Two weeks post-op

I am 3 weeks post op and have lost roughly 17lbs since day of surgery. I haven't lost anything this week and am just hearing about the 3 week stall. But I think u are on the right track with lbs lost although I know everyone is different.

    My story

I had a 3 week stall at 3 weeks post sleeve and then list for two weeks then another 2 week stall. I know it's a normal process of the body readjusting so keep doing what you are doing and walk walk walk drink your water and don't worry!! I hate stalls too but I have to be patient!!!
  6. I've had no complications and a pretty typical recovery from surgery. The first month after surgery I lost 30 lbs and then had a 3 week stall. I have now lost about 4 more lbs. Beware of the first stall, it messes with your mind, not just your body!

How Long Does A Stall Last

Hey! i was sleeved on the 17th and have lost 25 lbs and then in the third week not a single pound. I too am freaking out. My stomach makes all sorts of noise and i think that is just the motion getting going to move the food on down. I have been doing the purees and am so happy to not be eating liqid all the time. However the 3 week stall i have heard is totally normal so they say to be patient. I know so much easier said than done....
  8. Hi guys. How is everyone going? It has been almost a year since the last post so I don't even know if anyone will reply lol I am Liz. I had sleeve surgery in August 2013. I actually stopped loosing weight at 3 weeks post op. I thought it was the normal 3 week stall but nope. Just stopped dead. Had a CT scan at 3 months post op that came back saying my stomach was normal sized. Would hate to think the size of it before sleeve surgery then lol. Anyway, I was revised to bypass on 3rd March this year and going ok but extremely slow weight loss and my anti depressants have stopped working grr. OK will wait to see if there is any replies

    Anyone from NYC?

From manhattan(UES) and just had surgery 9/14. Started my journey at 310 (first appointment) and was 286 when I started my pre op diet. I went into surgery at 273 and today being a little over 3 weeks I am at 256 and never felt better. I have a feeling I am at the 3 week stall because I haven't lost anything this week unfortunately.
  11. Normally I would agree with you. But with such a huge calorie deficit, we are tricking our bodies into thinking we are starving. We go into ketosis where our body starts shutting down and our metabolic rate falls. It registers there are limited carbohydrates and fuel to burn and initially stops everything in an effort to save our bodies. That's why that 3 week stall is so predictable and happens to everyone. It then starts using up our extra fat storage for fuel. When ketosis happens, it throws off the whole input/output theory. You may follow the program to the tee one week and not see weight loss at all as your body is trying to keep you alive! Eventually it starts to shift and this is where patience comes into play. Slow and steady. The weight will come off. Just focus on developing new lifestyle habits that will continue after this honeymoon phase of wls ends 6months to a year out. Eventually we will be able to eat anything again and as I'm already learning it's easy to rack up calories once you introduce normal food in your diet. Using my loseit app on my phone has been key for me. Good luck!
  12. do a search for 3 week stall, you will find it there
  13. This is what is happening to me. I discussed it in my support group, they said it is normal. They called it a 3 week stall. Said it is very common. 14 lost pre surgery and 8 post surgery. They all said to keep doing what I’m doing and focus on getting in all the required vitamins, protein, and water, and WALK.

    Stupid stall

I am almost 4 months out and just got over a 3 week stall. then out of nowhere I lost 4lbs. in two days. Its crazy. Hang in there.
  15. Just wanted to say hang in there!!!! I hit the DREADED and LONG 3 week stall (about 8 days) and it finally broke and I am now back to the same quick loss as right after surgery. Hang in there and stay positive. The favorite mantra was "we HAVE to lose weight... we're only consuming 600 cals per day!"
  16. Yikes ... 3 week stall lasted 3 weeks? That is terrifiying to me. I am at the 3 weeks and I too have stalled ... no weight loss for 9 days ... it just defies logic does it not? How can I only eat 700 calories and not lose weight??? I was losing weight before on 1400 calories a day. anyway ... once you break through the stall what kind of weight loss are people seeing? the 3 lbs a week ?

    Let The Games Begin

Yep.... This is totally normal. This is probably your 3 week stall period where you will be adjusting in inches instead of lbs loss. I myself prefer to lose inches over lbs. The 1 lb gain could be water weight also. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated. Keep up the good work! You have done an excellent job.

    February 2021 bypassers?

I got my bypass 2/9/21 recovery was hard. I was on Jardine for my diabetes before surgery to help me lose the mandatory 15 pounds before surgery. My surgeon was unfamiliar with the medication and should have took me off atleast 3-5 days before and didn't. As a result on 2/14/21 I ended up back in the hospital with metabolic ketosis and on top of that server dehydration .. Now on soft food I'm at the infamous 3 week stall and not feeling very hopeful. I started at the smaller end of the scale so I was warned weight loss would be slower than most but I didn't expect a stall so soon. HW 238 SURGERY WEIGHT 219 CW 204
  19. I had the 3 week stall too, and I just got out of it last week. I started to lose a little bit of weight again this week. I am not sure if my stall was long due to not having regular bowel movements. I might have 1 every 8-10 days. but I was irregular before surgery too.
  20. I vote "normal" too. I too am part of the famous "3 week stall" club. Stick with your post-op guidelines, the weight will start dropping again. I promise.

    Milkshake?

The 3 week stall has nothing to do with needing to up your calories, so drinking a milkshake did not break the stall. You drank a milkshake....and the stall happened to break, the 2 things are not related. The 3 week stall breaks when your glycogen stores are replenished, and not before.

    June RNY buddies?

For sure take those softeners!! It won't do you any favors to be constipated. I had a little set back over the weekend with a stomach bug or something. I had to get some IV fluids to catch up, but otherwise all is well. I agree on the stool softeners! I've been taking them daily and have had 3 BM's in 2.5 weeks. Awesome job on the weight loss @New challenge! @Hal711 - I'm so sorry about your stomach bug. Glad you were able to get fluids and seem to be back at it again. 3 WEEK STALL - who has experienced it? I've been sitting at the same weight for 4 days. Daily weigher still. I'm sure that will change over time.

    Florida Sleevers!

Hello You are doing AMAZING! Don't be discouraged about the stall, you have hit the typical "3 week stall"... it is completely normal and happens to just about everyone. It's just your body's way of dealing with all the change. It sounds like you are doing great sticking to your diet. When you are in a stall your focus should always be "Water, Protein, vitamins" and not on the number. Stalls happen throughout the entire weight loss journey. They are frustrating, but you work through them. Also, keep an eye on how your clothes are fitting during this time. For me, I almost always dropped a size while I was stalling, so I didn't mind too much!
  24. In order for you to get out of the stall phase you have to drink water, water and more water, it will help you push through it and start to drop the weight. I went through the 3 week stall and it was super annoying. I found a youtube video on it, it was a life saver. It was also good yo know that stall is natural. Full liquid diet ideas

I do feel better today! I have been going full speed due to work and the holidays. I went back to work 6 days after having my lapband converted to the sleeve surgery. WAY to soon! Anyways, I have been watching You Tube videos of gastric sleeve and found this forum and found that the 3 week stall and future ones are NORMAL and now it makes sense to me! I also went to a WONDERFUL WEBSITE theworldaccordingtoeggface.com and it put a WHOLE NEW LIGHT on LIVING after bariatric surgery! I feel that the "depression" is from mourning the loss of food and WINE! Don't get me wrong, I KNEW it was coming BUTthis has felt more PERMANENT than the band. The egg face website has wonderful recipes that I'm planning to try as soon as my diet allows!!
