  1. OK, so I was all brave with my talk of how I was all mentally prepared for the inevitable “3 Week Stall”. Yeah, big talk sister! Then after no weight loss since last Thursday, I got socked, like an old fashioned cartoon this morning, WHAM! Picture me (or not) in the bathroom, buck naked with my mouth hanging open, standing on my scale and yelling, “GAINED A POUND??! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!” Not a pretty sight! I’m sort of slogging around in the denial stage right now. “…more water…must have more water…” OK, so I know some of you are gonna say that I should stop weighing every day; but shoot, the novelty hasn’t worn off yet. Maybe it just did…probably not, because I know that I’m going to have to work it out and machinate the heck out of this thing, at least the first time. It’s just the way I do things. Grrrrr So anyway, what do I do? I go running straight to this forum and search “stall” and read just about every post that has anything to do with the word stall!! OK, I got through 2 pages full—there are a LOT of us talking about “stall”. The more I read, the more normal I felt (hahaha, that alone was worth the price of admission!) and I stumbled across this amazingly succinct explanation of why we stall. Now, this makes sense to me and I can deal with it a little more rationally (Lord, I hope that’s not gonna earn me another “yeah, big talk sister!”) Thanks to meggiep for posting this link! I thought it was worth bumping up! The WHY behind the STALL Thanks for listening. I hope this link makes someone else feel "normal." Susan

    weight gain after solid foods?

Joan, I'm not sure about the Crohn's piece of the puzzle, but almost everyone experiences a stall or even a gain at around the 3-4 week mark. I know you're in week 6, but it might be the standard stall just delayed because you had to slow down the progression of your diet. I would say don't freak out--if you're keeping track of what you're eating and you're within the suggested counts, the scale will start moving again, I promise. I thought the same thing when I hit that first point where my body said "What's going on?" and weight loss stopped for 2 weeks, but it started again and has kept going. Hang in there--I think this is your 3-week stall, just on a Crohn's schedule. HUGS, though, cause seeing that scale move up is disheartening when you're doing everything right!!

30 days out and not losing

Track everything you eat/drink (myfitnesspal.com is great). But what you are in (and I have been for 19 days now) is the 3 week stall. It starts around 3 weeks and lasts as long as it lasts. I'm told the weight will move again. Hopefully soon. LOL

30 days out and not losing

its normal and will end, make sure you are getting in all of your water too... my "3 week stall" actually occurred in week 5 for me.. it's different for everyone... don't stress, that makes it worse.. also, you could try switching out one of the shakes for real protein (in addition to your dinner protein)... maybe for breakfast....

30 days out and not losing

It's probably the normal "3 week stall". A stall that happens around week 3 and can last a couple of weeks. Essentially, your body is still adjusting to the surgery - kind of re-arranging itself. So while you may not be noticing a decrease on the scale, I bet you are losing inches. Are your clothes fitting any differently?

    African American Sleevers

I was sleeved June 27, 2011, I have lost 20lbs, but have went from a sixe 2x in tops to a large. It is crazy. I also had a black surgeon in Dallas. I have seen people with the lap band and it does not seem to work well. My hair is natural, so ihave not had any hair loss as of yet. So I am doing pretty well. I went through a depression on July 4th and didn't come out the house(haha) I was thinking about all the bar b que I was missing, but i was on liquids then. So things are better now. I am at that 3 week stall, but hopefully things will pick up. My bllod pressure has been normal and i am getting weaned off of insulin. Only 77lbs to go!
  7. I lost 30 lbs in the first 4 weeks after surgery. That would be 12.5% of my weight at the time; or 28% of the excess weight I want to lose. We are all so different, I'm not sure we can compare. I think you might want to factor in the very common stall that often starts between weeks 3 and 5. I have not lost 1 pound since July 1st; that's a 3 week stall so far. I need to increase my exercise...ugh! And if you're about my size maybe this info helps (I am 5'4" and more of a big-belly girl than a big-bottom girl: I went from a size 22/24 to an 18 already; some 16s fit, but a 14 is still too small.) As of today I've lost 5" in my waist. Yay!!

    Feeling Like a Pig

No. I was doing good before the eating once a day. I was doing 2 or 3 small meals a day and then I just wasnt getting hungry. I'm still not. I think its head hunger. But I would literally forget that I hadnt eaten all day. I would get this horrible emprty feeling. Im trying now to eat 2 or 3 small meals a day but its the snacking and the sweets that I think are hindering my weight loss. Im on a 3 week stall right now. I finally got to ONEderland and a total of 52lbs lost so I'm happy about that. Just wondering WTF is wrong with my head that these sweets are tempting me, and Im losing!! I look at a cookie, and I think to myself....there's no way in hell its worth it. Next thing I know...cookie is in my tummy. Ugh!! I was good at fighting my temotation at first so Im hoping it's just a phase?

    Pre-surgery NSV

Thank you Autumn. I am quite proud of myself. Congratulations on your acceptance into your Vet Program. hey you don't have to lose much to have a NSV!!! You will be amazed. Couple of things you should do before your surgery, 1) take BEFORE photos so you can compare 2) take your measurements - so that when you hit the 3 week stall, you can check your measurements and see there are things going on and you don't get as frustrated. Sheila

  11. 6+ months here, I never had buyers remorse, but lots of adjustments to get used to for sure. I love it now, and continue to learn new things about my sleeve life every day. I tell myself I am eating out for the company, and not so much the food, but as time goes on, the food is in the picture more. I can eat anything now (good and bad!), but started out as a vegetarian that became lactose intolerance for the first month... that is better now and I can eat any dairy without problems. If you search this site, you can find lists of the yuck factor from WLS. Skin, hair, puke, pain, wrinkles, food mourning, 3 week stall (look that one up if you haven't already! People starting out go CRAZY when that shows up) and worse. In fact there are few here who did not experience at least one or two of these things. I know for me, perhaps my posts focus on the "glow" of the results, because they are really more important to me than anything bad that has happened to me. A chance for a longer life, my knees and joints are not yelling at me as often, I can up my exercise with JOY! Hike and interact with nature and people better, look hotter in cloths! Junk some of my meds and compete better in the work force. I recognize myself in the mirror after 20 years of WTF is that?! I am grateful and want others to have the chance to feel the same way. First month was the least "fun" of the process so far, but really, the 20 years before that were really the worst part! Not everyone is ready for WLS of any kind... heck not everyone is ready for regular dieting at any one time. The sleeve just evens that out by controlling how much you eat at a sitting on any given day.Sometimes I resist that control, but mostly I enjoy it. A LOT.
  12. Same thing happened to me, I had surgery 20 days ago. I lost 14 pounds in 8 days then I went 5 days without losing. I freaked out cause like you said, I had heard about the 3 week stall but not one at one week. Then I lost 2 pounds. So far this week I haven't lost anything (which is very frustrating). First thing, stop weighing yourself every day. I know it's amazing to have lost so much so soon. I made myself put the scale away and will weigh myself once a week at work. I don't believe this is a stall. Your body is regrouping. Just continue what you are doing and you will lose weight. Congrats on the awesome weight loss.
  13. I am 8 days post op and was on my way down...13 lbs post op but then yesterday...nothing, today....nothing. I know it's not a great idea to weigh myself daily but I am so excited. I have just started full liquids and am struggling to get calories and protein. Usually around 40-50 grams of protein and around 400 calories a day. I have read MANY posts about the 3 week stall but 1 week??!!! Am I doing something wrong already???

    Oh no :( HELP

I recommend leaving your scale in exactly the same place on a hard level floor. I can gain or lose up to 1.5 lb.s or so by moving mine around a few inches on my hardwood floor (Original wood floor from the 1920s so it probably has a more uneven surface than newer ones). If it's in the same place and you can change your weight more than an ounce or two by simply hopping off and on, maybe it's time for a new scale. And next time you plan to get weighed at the Dr.s, step on the scale before leaving the house. Generally, my scale weighs about 1 lb. heavier than the Dr.s scale. And about the two pound thing: You are right on schedule for the infamous 3 week stall. You'll find lots of chatter about the notorious stall all over VST. If you did only lose two pounds in week 3 or so, you are in good company!! Lynda
  15. lol, I tell myself to take a chill pill. i prepared myself for the 3 week stall. when i saw how much i was losing, it blew my mind and then boom nothing for the past week. but i know it will come off.

Slow weight loss is getting me down

Hello, Confession time... I am one of those people that have read posts before about stalls, or not losing any weight in a week or two.. and honestly I thought that person just "has" to be doing something wrong. I am the one that is wrong. I have done so much reading the last 3 weeks about stalls and plateau's.... I myself am in a 3 week stall.. 3 weeks... ugh.. my scale is awesomely accurate and the last 3 weeks I have varied in ounces, but that is nothing...I have been at the exact same weight for 3 frustrating weeks. I have examined my calorie intake, my carbs, I love crystal light and drinking fluids is no problem at all... excercise... I am the most active I have ever been in my life. I walk outside or on the treadmill 5 X a week, started slow and am now up to 3 miles ! I am so proud of what I have lost, I am so proud of how healthy I am eating and I totally feel great being more active. Inside my head...I am sad, I get frustrated, I also am a bit scared, like what if I cant lose anymore weight? I am still 100 pounds from goal...which adds to my frustration because I have so much further to go on this journey then most people who post on the forum.. I should be kicking weight loss butt with as much as I have to lose...but I am not.. O.k.. so point of my rambeling... is all the reading I have been doing the past 3 weeks.. is telling me our bodies need time to catch up to the drastic changes, our hormones, chemistry, metabolism are all changing. From everything I am reading, it is not uncommon to go 3-4 weeks without a loss... hard to believe, but it is true.. hang in there.. you keep pluggling along and I will keep plugging along and I sincerely hope a month from now, both you and I are higher on the loser bracket!!! Good Luck..
  17. Being only 5-6 weeks postop, I'm still working on my initial goal weight which is based on attaining a body composition of around 15% fat mass, which is on the lean side of normal for men. Assuming that the weight loss is primarily fat (ideal and not necessarily entirely accurate, but a decent starting point), that would put me at a BMI of about 28 and 200#. I figure that I would re-adjust as I get closer to goal and see how things progress and feel. I suspect that 200-210 is where I will end up as that was a long term stability point way back when, and my 3 week stall happened in the 260-265 range which is another stability point in my past (both on the up side and the down.)
  18. I was thinking that I possible avoided that dreaded 3 weeks stall! But, I think you are right, except mine just came a little later and brought a friend too boot! I seriously thought I was the only person in existance that the sleeve was not going to work for! I am glad this was posted today! Kelly

    Scale- friend or foe?

I am scale obsessed. I'm trying to find the willpower to throw it out because it's not doing me any good. I get on it at least 3 times a day. It's horrible for my progress and my self-esteem. Then I hit the dreaded 3 week stall and it is all I obsess about. I do not recommend keeping one around. Unless you can commit yourself to weighing only once a week, get rid of it now.
  20. Hooray! Celebrate with me! I finally fell through the rabbit hole and got past my almost 3 week stall. I am now officially in ONEDERLAND!!!! I am so happy. I know there will be more challenges and more stalls and more hard work ahead but right now I am doing the happy dance! I wonder how many calories that burns! Laura
  21. At a week out, your body is still holding onto all the fluids the surgeon pumped your stomach up with! Do not be concerned just yet. I know it's all exciting to see the lbs drop so quickly after surgery, but in reality, it's not gonna happen like that. Your body is still in shock and has no idea what you just did to it. Some people gain weight after surgery from all the fluids that are left in the body. But dont worry.... you will slowly start to release the fluids and begin to lose some pounds. But remember, you're body is in shock and this is completely normal! It happened to me and then I went into a 2, almost 3 week stall! Then one day I dropped 5lbs in one week. So, keep your chin up and keep sipping that water!

    Plication Surgery

Oh, yes! At about 2-3 weeks post surgery, I went into a stall for THREE weeks!! Drove me crazy, but I just kept reminding myself about the "Dreaded 3 week Stall" and, sure enough, if finally broke! I did have to tighten up my calories and carbs a little before it did, but it did break, and that was all that counted!

You sound like you're actually doing great. How much weight are you looking to lose ? 15 pounds is nothing to shake a stick at! As long as you're gradually losing weight, that's really all that matters. If you're physically able, I'd try to increase my mobility and get some exercise going! Also, what's your normal calorie intake per day ? Are you on any special diets at the moment ? Jenn ha sa great point about this possibly being your 3 week stall. Do a quick search to read more.
  25. Hi all, I know I am probably just being worried for nothing BUT today is the official second week mark and I gained almost two pounds. During my pre-op, I lost ten pounds and then after the first week being sleeved, I lost another 9-10 pounds. I was really happy with that and didn't expect to lose that first week. But what is it with this week? I don't think it is the time of the month because I have no clue when I am due again since stopping my birth control and I was never regular anyway. I have just been counting Protein grams, not calories or carbs because getting enough protein has been the biggest hurdle so far and I don't make it every day. I am going to start counting calories and carbs starting tomorrow to get a better picture but UGH! I usually drink a Protein Drink or smoothie mixture once a day. I will usually get 4-10 ounces of a Soup - usually cream soup or tomato puree of some kind. I can tolerate cheese so I have about 3 oz of that a day (maybe that's the culprit?). Sometimes I eat some yogurt or cottage cheese as well but usually on those days where I eat less soup. Some days it is hard getting anything in but I try to force myself to get protein rich meals in. I've heard of the dreaded 3 week stall and expected that but has anyone else stopped losing weight and actually gained weight this early? I really need to hear from someone who went through this. I'm only two weeks out! Ugh! Also, I woke up this morning with my stomach killing me and it didn't really let up until this afternoon. Regular Tylenol kept the pain at bay. But at one moment, I felt something pop and then the pain went away totally. I am really tired today but no other symptoms. Should I be worried? I am going to see my doctor on Wednesday for my first check up so I will tell him about it then but I figured I'd post about those symptoms now. My stomach usually only hurts me right after I get up or if I walk too much.
