So I had the metal taste also. Narrowed it down to one of two things bc they both changed befor it wrong away. Either my iron level was too high (it was double the normal high level) or it was my calcium chews bc I switched to tablets artound the same time a stopping my iron supplements. I don't get that metallic taste anymore though.

Decaffeinated Bev after surgery - Will caffeinated iced tea slow weight loss?
Lannie replied to Angel11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor allowed caffeine at 3 weeks. Caffeine is a diuretic and he wanted to ensure that I avoid dehydrated In the first few weeks. I still limit my caffeine intake. This is a personal decision, as I was highly addicted. Once I got it out of my system, I'm careful bc it can be a trigger for me. -
I bet the Sahara is low fat, since it's not in the over-fed U.S. (Sorry, couldn't resist). One of the best ideas I've heard is putting protein shakes into an ice cream maker. Eggface has some excellent recipes for those. I love slicing up an apple, putting a bit of cinnamon on it, and nuking it (microwave) for a couple minutes.

I am 2.5 weeks post op and I have heart burn or acid reflux. Idk how to tell the difference BC it rarely happens. But am I able to take tums to help it??

I was nervous - but the anesthetic they give you makes it a breeze. You might have a slight sore throat and be thirsty as heck afterwards... I had no erosion or inflammation - but the biopsy came back with the h.pylori bacteria in my gut. And that means 10 days of these 2 vile antibiotics. I hope you don't have that, but just know you are in good company if you do - lol. For the stress test - wear workout clothes, etc. Do not let them tell you that you have to run on that treadmill w/o your sports bra - that is just plain laziness on the technicians part. The very first time I did a stress test they did that - bunch of bs - I was soooo mortified doing that, and it was a young guy and he made me wear a gown on backwards and I was so close to tears. The second time I had one I found out that is pure bs. They can put the sensors on under your sports bra.

So I absolutely love water. It has always been my favorite drink to drink. Before surgery I would drink like 6-8 water bottles a day. Now that I have had surgery, it is a lot harder to drink that much water BC my stomach won't really hold that much at a time, and sipping water all day seems that I can't get 64 oz in because it gets warm so fast, and sometimes I just need to taste something lol. Does anyone think that I can count Powerade zero as my intake for some water? Like maybe 15 oz or less a day.

feeling bummed
OutsideMatchInside replied to FabNFit@40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Insurance might require a 6 month program but I have never read in any insurance policy that you are required to lose weight. Dr Offices set that requirement. if someone has a super high BMI over 60 and it is unsafe to do surgery until they lose weight, okay. However there is no reason to drag it out and require a lower BMI person to lose weight. If people could lose weight on their own they wouldn't need surgery. Obese patients are still discriminated against to get services, in ways that would not apply to other medical treatments. This to me is complete BS. My weight can fluctuate by 5 pounds just based on where I am on my menstrual cycle. I also bloat/hold water in the summer. I barely lost anything on my pre-op diet because it was 105 degrees every day of my diet and I was bloated the whole time. -
Feeling so horrid after surgery
mzsantiago88 replied to mzsantiago88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor didn't want to prescribe me something for nausea but I definitely need it I'm barely able to drink or anything and I don't want to get sick bc I'm not able to keep anything down [emoji53] I had a few sips of breath and a little cranberry juice as well as 2 sips of my protein drink which is extremely gross ugh I hope it gets better. Do you still have a lot of air in your stomach ? Mine is so puffy right now -
PCOS cysters
sleevedshereen replied to megamedic691's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have PCOS. I'm 3 months post op and have lost 36 lbs. Before surgery, I hadn't had my menstrual cycle for 5 months..then, after surgery I got it. I've had it every month since surgery. One side effect of PCOS that has not slowed down though is the facial hair on the sides of my cheeks and where my chin/neck area is. It's not THAT bad, I've seen girls have it worse than me but that's a symptom that has not decreased. I've done 2 treatments of laser hair removal so far and it's decreased a tad...my next laser appointment is next week so we'll see how that helps it. (I was told birth control helps this side effect of pcos but I hated how I felt on bc so I don't want to go back on it) -
How is the Bariatric Pal Stores food?
GeTnBackuP replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
hmmm, my thoughts on the reviews and being on their forum is that they should be pleased that we eat their foods and offer honest opinions. If it's good stuff then we'll say so and if it's not we'll say so and hopefully they'll listen and make improvements accordingly. Or not. It seems like a huge convenience and so far the actual product reviews on the Store page seem favorable so I'll give a few a try after I get to that phase post-op. I am happy to hear you are a BC survivor I've seen it first hand with loved ones, cancer sucks....and you now have me thinking more closely about the soy issue post-op- I'll check the ingredients. My body will essentially be fully flushed (for lack of a better technical term) in the immediate months after surgery and this is the perfect time for me to get WHOLE, good-for-me foods incorporated into my new lifestyle. That is the goal! Thanks for the "food" for thought....T -
How is the Bariatric Pal Stores food?
FluffyChix replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I hesitate to give a disappointing review of the BP products, especially since we're on their forum! I know I represent such a small percentage of the population, but I was totally psyched up to buy some of their soups and snacks/chips. I can't because I'm a hormone positive breast cancer survivor and the two rules my oncologist told me I must follow are: 1. Do not EVER eat soy. (it's a strong phytoestrogen food source) 2. Lose weight. He wrote the book on BC, so I figure I better follow his rules. Sadly, all of the soups and snacks I've found in the BP store have soy in them. There are probably exceptions, but I'm fairly bummed. -

Ok, here's another hypothetical day of eating to get my protein in without using any, or using as little protein powder, bars, drinks as possible at 6 weeks with my plan. Let's Play A Round Of: How I Get My Protein Post WLS!
FluffyChix posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hi y'all. I thought it would be fun to post a real or theoretical day of eating that allows you to get your protein in at the individual level you're at presently. So like, if you're eating 1/4c per meal and have a protein requirement of 60g of protein for the day--what are you eating. Likewise, if you have a 1/2c per meal allowance and an 80g of protein requirement--what do you eat. Maybe if we do enough of these posts they will be great references for people as they work their way up from the initial 1oz=1/8c per meal, all the way up to 1c=8oz per meal! I know it will sure help me. I'll start by giving a hypothetical example for me when I'm 6 weeks out--on a "good day". You can put everything you're eating, but really I'm just thinking to put the protein component only and if you have room to also eat some veggie and then higher glycemic carb, God bless you! (Oh the big goal is to get as much of your food from whole food sources rather than protein powders/bars/shakes etc.) Ok, let's play! Goal: 1/4c Food per meal/snack; 74g Protein/day B: 1 jumbo egg + 1 tsp unsalted KG butter (8g P) MS: 1/4c HEB 0%Fat Greek Yogurt + 1oz froz blueberries + 6g slivered almonds + 10g protein powder (15g P) L: 2oz stewed chicken thighs + 1tbsp salsa (14g P) AS: 1/8c homemade sf fluffernutter (peanut butter/marshmallow dip) + 5g protein powder + 1oz GS apple (10g P) D: 1/8c homemade 2Alarm chili + 1 tbsp pintos + 1 tbsp grated cheddar + 1 tbsp salsa + 1 tsp sour cream (17g P) BS: 1/4c 2% Daisy cottage cheese + 6g Vitacost peanut butter powder (10g P) Daily Totals: 670cals; 74g Protein; 30g Fat; 29g Carb; 11g Fiber; 18g Net Carbs; 10g naturally occurring sugars -
The issue I have with coffee, as I sip it while I write this, is that we have to keep our water up. My doctor said the main reason they say no to coffee at first is bc of the whole water issue. I'm being so bad bc I need the caffeine, am in a total stall and I know it's bc my fluids are not even close to where they shld be. Not drinking out of a straw is killing me bc that's how I always got my water in-downing tons of water with one of those reusable cups with a straw. The difference is the effect on blood sugar levels and insulin response. Whether that is why you avoid carbs or not is a personal preference. But that is why I, and many plans, don't count them. This is an article with plenty of peer reviewed scientific articles quoted, with the pubmed links included-- https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/sugar-alcohols-good-or-bad#section4 And here's a rather dense scientific peer reviewed article about the metabolic effects of xylitol- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3128359/ Interestingly the scientists have also shown links to positive effects on gut bacteria, bone density and collagen production! So, the science community quoted in this article doesn't think it's BS, they aren't marketing anything. Read, do research and make an informed decision. Or go by your surgical teams' plan... you trusted them to cut you open, trust their dietary advise over the advise of strangers on the internet.

This topic has come up before, but net carbs are BS. It was created to sell product during the low carb craze. It's marketing, nothing more. Total carbs are what counts.

I really love my Bari family here. Last night really sucked for me. I ended up riding my elliptical and watching tv til it watched me. Everything u guys said was dead spot on but I’ll tell u something. When I’m in the throws of that misery and it’s got a hold on me like a newborn in a blanket, to shift my thoughts as y’all suggested is close to impossible. Luckily It typically hits me hardest at night and I can simply go to bed and eventually to sleep. Interestingly enough, I dream of eating my favorite food. As a therapist myself, I know that to get thru it is to go thru it. There’s no testimony without test. I also know how this is actually my second chance at bat (I had gastric bypass in 2008). It’s these facts about my journey that tell my body (motor functions) and deep in my heart that cheating is not an option. My food addicted Mind (my brains pleasure center), on the other hand is what screams in agony. It’s sometimes physically draining for me. Luckily my education has taught me to understand this and that to let it out as I did in that post helps release a small bit of the stress. The rest, for me, is to vicariously live the lives or to become enthralled in the happening of television characters. Luckily it’s worst at night and this practice just seems to work out. I hope this post helps someone who’s thinking about cheating on this journey. The battle between the “to do or not to do” is real. Everyday, every minute we beat that urge is a strike of accomplishment. ANYBODY that says we took the easy way out can kiss your ass for me too BC at the end of the day, only we as individuals know and live with our demons and what it takes to beat them. One day at a time.

Why are my readings not coming down?!?!?!
Annahoj replied to bascott73's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery one week ago. My BS has steadily risen and is now 311. The highest amount of carbs I have consumed is 74. I am frustrated and confused. No one said this could happen. -
I did all the steps, seminar, all the classes, psych eval and got down to goal wt to be told I can't get scheduled for surgery until I stop breastfeeding and my milk is completely dried up! I feel like I wasted a bunch of gas and time. Why wasn't I told this months ago!? This process was just one day!!! I'm so f.....irritated! Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Surgery Cancelled and Giving Up
PrayingForWeightLoss replied to Karleena's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Karleena, you haven't failed anything. You did everything right as you were told. Other people failed to do their part. If you happen to read this and what the other wonderful people here have also written, please just go and see the doctor again and clarify the diagnosis and paperwork even if it doesn't make sense this was not clarified before today. You have come so far and invested your money as well as emotions into all your this. I cannot imagine how it feels to have this BS thrown at you today. Please just go to the appointment with the GP and get clearance. After that you don't need to go back to him again if you wish not to after treating you this way. So sorry you are going through this nightmare. -
MCT Oil, Keto..an alternate way to eat Post VGS
OutsideMatchInside replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to use MCT oil prior to surgery for energy. Post-op I have so much energy I do not need it. I have an almost full bottle I purchased after surgery that I have not used once I think. The first 6 months you should follow your bariatric plan. The stages and foods allowed are a prescription for healing and to lessen complications, after you are healed at 6 months you can do what you want. I used a keto calculator to create my macros, and I followed them very closely for a long time. A lot of the things that people that are not WLS patients do with keto are not necessary for WLS patients. The whole first year I had no physical hunger so I didn't have to do a lot of the popular tricks that people do. Like the whole purpose of bulletproof coffee is to extend your fast in the morning so you even up intermittent fasting, at least how it was originally intended by the Bulletproof guy Dave Aspey (been a fan of his for years). It is easy to fast for extended periods post-op WLS with no hunger. People online really bastardize the whole bulletproof coffee thing. If you are used to low carbing, life post-op WLS is not really much of a change at all. The only difference is smaller portions and you have to eat more often. A person that is used to being Keto adapted and knows what to expect has the advantage in the WLS world. It made most of it pretty easy for me, I wasn't whining about missing crackers and other crap I didn't eat before anyway. Bariatriceating is always trying to sell their BS shakes so I am not sure they are the best source. Their NO NO List is I used heavy cream in my coffee when I struggled to keep my calories up. Unlimited bacon as a no no is only because I don't have the room and can't meet my protein goals with it. I only use FULL FAT everything. The rest of it is fake and has additional carbs. Their ratios on how to eat are not Keto at all, they have carbs almost equal to protein and that is not keto whatsoever. I hate that website so much, ugh. Anyway... I set my macros goals by setting my protein goal first. My protein goal has been 120 grams a day, at first post-op it was 90, then I raised it to 120. My protein goal is based on my muscle mass. Here are my keto goals as they progressed. 2 months Post-Op 4 months Post-Op This is my current bare minimum calories for the day. I can lose like this but I can lose eating more calories also. This is my baseline to function without being dizzy or tired. -
