@Lynda486 I was just about to start a thread called 3 week stall and weight gain until I saw this thread.. I am experiencing the same. I have not lost for about a week in fact I've gained 2 lbs. I JUST got the surgery Oct 1. I haven't even logged the two lb weight gain because I want to deny it. It happened around day 21 of the surgey. I've added soft foods in and I think that's why. I'm hitting my protein and fluid goals I just happen to be eating more real food. I never go past 350 calories a day and I get two 30 minutes walks in a day. I don't understand and I weigh several times a day and at the grocery store. I'm reading the responses and they give me some comfort but this is disheartening to have gone through this and now I've gained??? I did better pre-op...OMG..wondering what I did to myself and regretting this surgery. I'm not constipated at all everything is working on that front. Everyone says you lose the most the 1st six months of surgery and now I've stopped.

Weight Gain Since Starting Purée Meals...what Am I Doing Wrong?
doxieville replied to shamrockjulie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've lost 18 pounds!! You should be proud!! J/K!!! Don't slap me, I couldn't resist. There is no doubt that this weight loss 'journey' 'ride' 'new life' (whatever you choose to call it) can be frustrating. You prob did hit the 3 week stall. Many people do. A couple other factors are in play here: How much total weight you need to lose; less weight = a slower process. Body fluids fluctuate so if you are weighing yourself daily you need to keep that in perspective. MANY of us feel in the beginning that something is wrong, or that we will be 'the one' that will go down in the history books as this surgery not working no matter what we do. If you are working your program, you WILL lose the weight. Some people lose it faster than others. People advise on here not to weight yourself daily as the number 1 most important tip. I don't agree. I think not comparing ourselves to others is number 1. You will lose it on your body's timeframe. Keep working the program. Protein, liquids, exercise= total success. -
I know I've read here a million times about a 3 week stall - but I guess now that it's happening to me ...... I'm freaking out lol I'm so worried I'll be the ONE that this surgery doesn't work for !! I'm definitely reaching my Protein goals each day..... almost reaching my liquid goal and I'm really not eating very much. Maybe once a day I have yogurt or turkey slices w/ cottage cheese. Grrrrrrrrr! [emoji4] Thanks for any advice !!!

This 3 week stall is no joke it’s been over 2 weeks for me now 😓 Ugh! 2 weeks? I'm so sorry! I have literally weighed the exact same since Saturday. Not an ounce more or an ounce less. So strange to me. -
I Want My Stomach Back For A Day!
MegInNOLA replied to Cherrybomb's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I COMPLETELY get you! I had the same feelings, too. I still do on rare occasions. It is maddening to feel like you've spent so much money and invested so much energy and had your stomach REMOVED from your body and now all you want is to feel "normal" and be able to do the things that you used to do. And there isn't a normal any more, and you can't do them. I think a lot of us go through this at some point--and it doesn't help that you are actually right around the time of the infamous 3-week stall (just do a forum search and you'll see what I'm talking about). Your body is flipping OUT right about now, getting ready to ditch a BUNCH of weight, but all that fat burning is also releasing all kinds of hormones, which, on top of the frustration of having to relearn how to eat, makes for some craziness. It's temporary, I promise. Just hang in there. What got me past the anger was the realization that yeah, if I was feeling so frustrated at not being able to eat a normal portion, I NEEDED my sleeve to control things for me. I NEEDED that permanent fix. It wasn't something I was ever going to be able to control on my own. I was really mad at myself for having to go through with a surgical fix for my weight issue. Once I realized it was a "done deal," though, I realized I had no other choice but to learn how to manage it, move past the feelings of frustration and anger, and get on with making my "new normal." If you really liked the "old normal," you wouldn't have had the surgery, right? I made a list and contributed to a post or two on this forum regarding reasons I had the sleeve, aka things I was looking forward to. I can truthfully say that I have had all of them--all of them--come true!!! Maybe posting your own list of things you're looking forward to would help you re-focus off the current problems and onto the reasons you did the surgery? Meanwhile, hugs and hang in there. You're at one of the most difficult points in the process--that stupid stall makes people think they went through all the pain and expense for nothing, when it's actually just your body getting used to everything. -
Three week stall one week after surgery?
Ivanova8 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was 10 days ago. I seem to be stuck at the same weight for the past 3 days. I was wondering if the weight I lost on the 2 week Opti-fast liquid diet plus the weight lost during my first week home would make for a 3 week stall. Has anyone experienced this so early after surgery? I know it's still early but could use some encouragement. And I want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm eating between 500 - 650 calories a day. I've so far not experienced dumping. I even had 1/2 cup of pureed split pea Soup last night for dinner. The only thing different so far is that my pouch doesn't like cold Water. It definitely has to be room temperature. -
Help!!! I converted from Lapband to bypass 3wks ago and at my 2wk appt my doc ok'd me to have Wendy's chili and chicken and ground turkey etc as long as I chewed it well. I'm assuming she transitioned me because I had a previous surgery. However, preop included I lost 39lbs but since real food I'm back up 4lbs. I know about the 3 week stall but wouldn't I had lost more staying on liquids/ purée/soft food stage longer. I feel like my doc sabotaged me. Anyone else transitioned early per doc and gained? Blue Shield PPO- do u need to wait 6 months for surgery?
Adri replied to bethk12@gmail.com's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had no complications and a pretty typical recovery from surgery. The first month after surgery I lost 30 lbs and then had a 3 week stall. I have now lost about 4 more lbs. Beware of the first stall, it messes with your mind, not just your body! -
I've Hit The Dreaded 3-Week Stall...ugh!
McButterpants posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I’m in the dreaded three-week stall and it sucks. I knew this was coming. I knew it was going to happen. I thought I even prepared myself for it. I have preached to others that it’s not big deal. That it’s your body saying, “Whoa, what the hell did you do to me?” and, “Your body needs to figure it out before it loses more weight.” I know all that, but it doesn’t make it suck any less and it doesn’t make me any less pissed off. There, I said it. I’m pissed off. I said it again. Rationally, it makes sense. My body is wondering if it’s a time of famine, so it’s not going to allow it’s self to lose any more weight until figures out that this is the new normal. This may take some time – I’m in a Facebook group where some people who had their sleeve operation in November stalled for three weeks. That’s a major blow to my already fragile psyche! After years of yo-yo dieting, when you don’t see the scale move, that when you find the donuts, or bread, or Cookies or (insert vise here). That is not an option. Eating a donut or other off-plan food will not only make me sick, even worse, it could damage my sleeve. It’s also not an option because I must be accountable for my actions. I need to be an adult. I will add that accountability and being an adult sucks, too! :-) So, I am writing this post as much for me as for anyone that reads it. The three-week stall will most likely happen. Try to prepare yourself for it, but know that no matter how much you prepare for it, it’s still going to be difficult when you go through it. What am I going to do about it? I’m going to keep on keepin’ on. That’s all I can do. I am going to stick to my plan – 3 meals and 3 shakes per day with 80-90 grams of protein; just as the doctor ordered. I’m going to continue going to the gym and walking on the treadmill. These are the two things that are going to help me achieve my goals. I cannot lose sight of that. I also know that this is temporary. My rational mind knows the arithmetic behind calories in vs. calories out. I’m consuming 600-800 calories a day right now and I’m burning about 250 on the treadmill daily. That formula will equal weight loss as soon as my body realizes we’re going to be OK. I just wish my body knows what my brain does! -

Bonofide Stall How Do You Break It?!
BenisaMartim4 replied to 612belly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The majority of us have a stall between 2-4 weeks post op. Most people call it the 3 week stall. It is pretty much your body going into shock from what you have done to it...lol. Just hold on, it will pass. You are WAY to early out to be worrying about weight loss. Just make sure you are getting plenty of fluids and as much protein as you can and you will see progress very soon. You are probably getting smaller right now, even without the scale moving -
Are stalls real or do we just make excuses ?

The 3 week stall is real. As it has already been stated on this thread, weight loss is not an exact science and does not always follow the laws of physics. *drops Mic* -
Anyone for October 2020?
Lilfootie replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did my 3 week stall at week 2, stalled until week 4, lost for 3 days and have been in another stall ever since 😭😭😭. I know it will come off, but stalls are the worst. NSV - I ran on the treadmill for the first time in 6 years this weekend! And I am down two pants sizes. -
How are my fellow December surgeries doing?
loridee11 replied to lys's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was RNY on 12/31, so almost 3 weeks out. I've been very fortunate that I haven't had any issues with fluids and am able to get in 80+ per day since the first week. I really have to plan to get close to my protein goals and still need a protein shake or high protein drink (I've been doing a decaf latte with Fairlife & Collagon = 23 G protein). I've been on soft foods for almost a week and so far everything has sat pretty well. I'm slowly introducing new things. I did hit my "3 week stall" at 1-1/2 weeks which played some mind games with me, but have started losing again which makes me happy. Hopefully I'll be consistent for a bit before I hit my next stall. -

Why am i not losing weight?
JanetPRN replied to missypooh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not enough protein, not enough water, and not many calories will cause a body to go into conservation mode for a little while. Do a search on dreaded "3 week stall" . It happens/ happened to all of us. Don't panic, it passes. Keep up on your walking, nutrition and fluids and you will be fine. I think 14lbs in 2 weeks is awesome! -

Aussie girl sleeve Fri 28 August!
smileygal replied to smileygal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi all. Sorry it's been a while. Life got crazy for a bit. I'm nearly 4 weeks post op and had the 3 week stall!!! So frustrating - same weight all week. I guess I had already lost 11kgs so can't really complain and I don't want to lose too fast as many ppl don't know I've had the surgery. I have more energy, finding stairs easier already, doing more walking. Yesterday we had a big family lunch and I was able to eat enough over 2 hours that no one seemed suspicious. Fish is by far the easiest thing but I also had a spoonful of curry with rice. Cheesecake for dessert was just too easy to eat but I only had a sliver. At work I'm mainly having a yogurt for morning & afternoon tea - same one half/half and a shake for lunch. What other things work well on soft diet? Mushrooms going down well for breakfast! Did anyone else get the 3 week stall?? -
Hi! I had surgery on March 10th 2021. From 3 week Pre-op until now, I have lost a total of 19 pounds (nearing 6 weeks total time). I have not lost any weight in the last 10 days. I’ve spent a good period of time assuring myself by reading the great feedback on others posts about similar questions but, most suggest the 3 week stall and I have heard that the stall can happen 2-4 weeks post surgery. Has anyone ever heard of a stall basically right out of the gate? I am tracking - I am at 600 calories/day and 60g of protein. My Pre-Op Diet Start Weight was 257 and I am currently 238. Thanks in advance for the advice and feedback, a little challenging to not be discouraged!

I Am Not Really Seeing The Weight Loss I Was Expecting
HealthyT replied to Hey Man's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is what is happening to me. I discussed it in my support group, they said it is normal. They called it a 3 week stall. Said it is very common. 14 lost pre surgery and 8 post surgery. They all said to keep doing what I’m doing and focus on getting in all the required vitamins, protein, and water, and WALK. -
You are COMPLETELY normal. You won't feel a lot of restriction (if any) with liquids. All the diet plans seem to vary from surgeon to surgeon. Just follow the "rules" given to you and see what happens. You are closing into the 3 week stall that almost EVERYONE has. You will get through this!

So I am a week away now and I think I am feeling okay. I have prepared myself for the worst. I have come up with almost all the worst conclusions possible and asked myself would it still be worth it. Since becoming addicted to this site, I have come to learn that the emotions and adjustments are somewhat standard. A very hard pre-op Day 1-3. I bounced back so well after my C-section in July. I mean the doctor had to tell me take it easy, because even my if my body was feeling great I just had a major surgery. So I am preparing myself to have a not so great recovery. Not trying to jinx myself, but preparing as a "just in case." The "What Did I Do To Myself" breakdown. It seems like almost everyone goes through this at some point. Whether its when you are sitting in the mirror during week 1 OR when you are really tested by not being able to eat your fav food. I am going to write a letter to post op self from my pre-op self that hopes to encourage me and answer that dreaded question. The liquid-oh-how-I-hate-liquids rant. Liquid diets suck. Yeah, I said it. No one want to them. It seems that almost everyone goes through this also. My post op diet requires liquids for 10-14 days post-op. I am hoping the first 5-7 days are a breeze because I won't need much to get full. But then I have to force myself to know that this liquid phrase is needed to help my body heal. The dreaded 3 week stall. It's funny. No matter how many times people on here talk about stalling at this point, so many are disheartened. Well I am preparing myself for it now. I am preparing for it to last anywhere from a week to a month. I know my body is going through a lot of changes (or will be). I know that this too will past. Learning to eat again and not drinking while eating. I am a fast eater. I have been trying to get this under control. I mean I don't intentionally eat fast, but I make no effort to slow down. My husband always says to slow down. So this past couple of weeks, I have been chewing and eating like sleever. I have been chewing and chewing and chewing. Not fun. I think its because I am still eating a normal plate size and it takes forever. I am also a gulper. I will have to really remind myself of the changes that I need to make to make my sleeve work. Then looking back 5 months post-op and not regretting a thing.
