  1. I too thought the weight would come off faster but I am more than pleased with what I have accomplished so far. I know I have quite a ways to go but so far so good One thing you need to consider too is that even when you are not dropping pounds you will still be dropping inches. During my "3 week stall" I didn't lose a pound but still lost inches so I did not give up hope. I just started at the gym a couple of weeks ago and see that working out really does make a difference in how I feel and the pounds that I lose per week. One thing to remember is every body is different so don't compare yourself to others just be proud of what you have been able to accomplish

This 3 week stall is no joke it’s been over 2 weeks for me now 😓 Ugh! 2 weeks? I'm so sorry! I have literally weighed the exact same since Saturday. Not an ounce more or an ounce less. So strange to me.

    Weight loss halted

It's called the 3 week stall. In fact, it's famous. Use the search function on here or visit the stall forum. You will see that EVERYONE goes through this and the answers to your questions have already been posted dozens of times. But in the end, the best thing to do is stick to your diet plan and STAY OFF THE SCALE!!!!
  4. I am 8 days post op and was on my way down...13 lbs post op but then yesterday...nothing, today....nothing. I know it's not a great idea to weigh myself daily but I am so excited. I have just started full liquids and am struggling to get calories and protein. Usually around 40-50 grams of protein and around 400 calories a day. I have read MANY posts about the 3 week stall but 1 week??!!! Am I doing something wrong already???

    Frustrated as hell!

I would say do a search on the 3 week stall, but you will be reading all night. Just read the link in my sig. You have hit the inevitable stall that most people hit in their first month. Don't fret and don't change anything. Certainly do not cut out your protein shakes. They do not make you fat. Keep drinking and walking and take 2 weeks off from weighing yourself. Start measuring yourself instead. Soon the weight will be falling off.

    The Math Doesn't Add Up

Oh, I hated my 3 week stall. For a week I stayed at the same weight but I was eating right, drinking lots of fluids, exercising... I know I'll have another one but I'm prepared this time. I do avoid all carbs so anything that will be burned is fat.

    The Math Doesn't Add Up

I was in the 3 week stall for 2 weeks! Not fun - or logical. Just now getting out of it fully. Just lost 4 lbs this week. When I was completely stalled I actually gained 4 lbs. . Drs office said I was retaining lots of water. It does get better. Don't get discouraged. We didn't put the weight on in a day and it doesn't come off in a day. What I did was focus on getting strong. I increased how far I walked and kept thinking about how strong I was getting instead of the "failure" of a non-moving scale. You are likely losing inches and not even realizing it.
  8. Three weeks post op, I went on my first business trip. It was a big wine and dine event, and then I stayed the weekend over, laid by the pool. I drank each day, beer, wine and/or Mai Tais. But I logged everything, and averaged over those 7 days, 700 calories a day. I came back and in the week since I had last weighed myself I gained more than 2 lbs. Now, it could have been the 3 week stall, it could have just been restaurant food vs. the very basic food I was eating at home. It could have been the transition to "real" food. It could have been 700 calories vs, 400 calories I was consuming prior. But it could also have been the alcohol (and mixers). Those were purely unnecessary calories I was consuming. Honestly, I was pissed at myself. After that point I have had the very occasional glass of wine, but I am determines that I will not be consuming liquid calories going forward. I want this weight loss too badly to sabotage it. This has been an awkward and challenging decision. I do a lot of entertaining in my job. My industry and my company have a big drinking culture. I also miss a nice glass of wine with a good meal. But if I'm willing to undergo surgery to remove most of my stomach, I'm willing to make other sacrifices to get this weight off.

    December sleevers

Sleeved 12/16. Seems like several of us went through a long stall! Mine lasted a little over 3 weeks. Thankfully I'm back to losing again, because I was starting to get discouraged. Dropped 3 lbs in 2 days Had an appointment on Friday and they said they expect me to lose at least 15 lbs if not more by May. Really hoping I don't have another 3 week stall between then!!
  10. What sort of things are you eating? What would make you think you stretched it? Have you heard of the 3 week stall? You may be in the middle of that. How much do you have to lose?
  11. I think I've hit another stall. I'm still losing but only about a pound a week. I have been trying to get over 1200 calories a day and its hard. I'm eating high calorie foods and not gaining but not losing as much. I passed the 3 week stall. Now I guess I'm in a new stall. Any tips ? I'm so close to my goal.

    Weight stalled?

Billie 70. yes it is called the 3 week stall :} it is very common so we named it such. Just keep following your eating protocol. Your weight will move. Your body is adjusting to the surgery and low calorie intake ..Once your dr. releases you to exercise..my suggestion is to start..it will def help you with weight loss. Just keep on doing what u are doing. and btw the post above ..just ignore it. We don't need sarcasm on this web site. especially when we are helping newbies. Let us know if you have further questions.

    Any one from Texas?

As far as feeling normal again it took me just a bit over a month to feel normal. And I never walked hunched over after my surgery so I'm not sure about that one. I concur. It's been 4 weeks from my surgery today. I just went back to work. It really took 2.4-3 weeks before I felt semi-normal. I was pretty shocked and disappointed initially bc it seems that many people have an easy recovery. I normally bounce back quickly but this was not the case with the sleeve. I never regret doing it, and I was very prepared for what could happen, I just always thought what could happen would not happen to me. Again, I had no major leaks but I did pull an internal stitch (worst pain I've ever had), had hibernation syndrome, and hit the annoying "3 week stall" in the middle of week 2 for a out 10 days. Stay positive. It will get so much better and easier. Just listen to what your body needs because your body will speak to you in a language only you can understand. Hope all is well!
  15. It's the 2-3 week stall it will pass just keep eating correctly
  16. At just under 3 weeks post op I gained weight then stalled for a week and a half. I wanted to scream. I felt like I was doing something wrong. After reading about this infamous "3 week stall" on here, then double checking that I was getting in all of my Protein, Water, & Vitamins, and making sure I was getting some exercise daily, I just let it go. I started weighing in only once a week and also started doing my measurements once a week. It sucked but apparently it really is just part of the process. If you know you are doing things the way you should be, trust that your body is behaving the way it should. I know that's WAY easier said then done but hopefully if enough people tell you they have been there, done that and it's normal you'll be able to get through it a little easier. It really does sound like you're doing great, keep it up!
  17. Look at your diet and see what you are eating. I understand you are getting in your protein but how much fat and sugar are you eating. Just a suggestion. Also you really should be working out up to 5 days a week. Need to burn the calories! I just came off a 3 week stall and i am 9 months post today. You really need to change up your eating and exercise routine every 6 wks or so your body doesnt adjust. Try working out 3 to 4 days and really push the cardio and strength. I was taught to do a warm up and then hit the strength before cardio. I do heavy strength every other day. The opposite days i concentrate on cardio and little strength. I work out 5 days a week and about 1 hr and 45 min a workout. It is important to losing weight!

    Stalling so soon????

Just my quick reponse to this thread. I'm 3.5 weeks out from surgery now - and had been losing almost an average of 1lb/day for a couple of weeks. I think I've hit the stall now, though. Super frustrating because I bounced off that "magic " 300lb mark and have been between 300 and 302 for 4 or 5 days now. Can't wait to see a "2" on the scale again!! So, what is the "average" stall duration? Am I correct in that it's called the 3 week stall? Is that because it happens at week 3, or because it lasts for 3 weeks? I know we're all different, but there's nothing in my weight loss "bible" that talks about this. Thanks all!

Weight Loss Has Stalled After Only 4 Weeks

Very common and very normal. Just search the 3-week stall and you will find many, many, many posts from people that have gone through it and from people that can assure you it is fine. Your body has been through major surgery and it is trying to adjust. It WILL start coming off again.

Why Am I Dropping Weight So Slowly?

You're doing just great! How much we lose at first all depends on a lot of different things....starting weight (the lower the starting weight, the less lost at first) age, gender (males lose SO MUCH FASTER!) . Yeah, a pound a day is great for the first few weeks. But don't expect that rate of loss to continue. Expect a stall soon (the dreaded 3 week stall) and after that, the weight loss happens at a more "normal" rate (2-4 pounds a week). Just follow your plan, keep hydrated, move a little, and you should continue to lose at a fairly steady pace. Try not to compare yourself to others, either. Good luck and congrats!

Scale vs. clothes vs. how you feel

I had my surgery feb 10 this year. I JUST came out of a 3 week stall! The scale did not move for 3 whole weeks. Then yesterday I had lost a lb and then today I had lost another lb. I didn't do anything diff. I was freaking out! My nutritionist said our bodies have defense mechanisms that cause us to hold onto stuff cuz it thinks its starving. I just started to work out do I'm hoping that will move my scale more. I've now lost 32 lbs since the start of my pre op diet. I started at 278 and now I'm 246. My goal weight is between 150 and 165. So I now have less than 100 lbs to lose!

    Blarg up 3 lbs?

1000 calories is fine and yes exercising at least 3 times a week helps. I have been doing around 1000 calories but haven't been exercising (started again on friday) and lost 1 kilo, 2.2 pounds after a 3 week stall, which isn't very much but at least I haven't put on weight, had people visiting from South America so my eating hasn't been what it should've been I would recommend not to weigh very often, because fluctuations are so unpredictible, bloatness, water retention, lack of bowel movements, etc
  25. I hit the 3 week stall and was on a 2 week stall and finally lost 4 lbs in the last two days. It is normal!
