I got sleeved May 15,2014
Monarch1966 replied to dragonfly#'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My Psychologist recomended nectar whey Protein Isolate - the flavor she had was fuzzy navel. Although they have many flavors. She told me some nutrition stores give discounts to BS patients but I found it on Amazon. Has anyone else tried the Nectar? It definitely helps with hunger pangs and since I am preop that is very comforting during the day. i get my Water and protein. NUT suggested Isopure but i found it to very expensive where I live. -
Low priced, high protein shake I've found post gastric sleeve
DeezJeanz replied to Julie K. Brown's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey Jess, I totally agree, I told my hubby about it, and I said, I was only getting them bc of price not bc I wanted or needed them and since I was refunded, I'd leave it alone too. Trust me, I was disappointed at first, besides, I'd only ordered one bc I really didn't need them, they were gonna b as a back up if needed, so yeah, I agree with ur insight, gr8 job on you!! -

5 year post gastric bypass weight gain
lizonaplane replied to NuOutlook's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
You look great, but I am sure you definitely want to take off that regain! I have heard those "reset" liquid diets are a bunch of bs - really the reason for the liquid diet right after surgery is to protect the staples/sutures and the new stomach, not to lose weight faster. Instead, I would focus on the basics: protein and veggies, and water and I know for me, I only have ever lost weight when I kept track of calories/macros. (I haven't had surgery yet, but I plan to track after surgery too). We're here for you! You can do it! -
Hey Danny! From what I have "gleaned" from other posts, United Health Care is paying for more Bands than BC/BS...just an intuition...not based on fact at all. If you know the plan numbers, you can usually go online for coverage information. The CDT code for Lap Band is 43843. Good Luck!

I know everyone is human and everyone makes mistakes but I want to share something my surgeon has told me that when I start my pre next week it's gunna help me make the right choices. Last year they had someone that cheated on they're diet and never told them to make a long story short they almost lost her. She was in the icu for three months. U have to think u r not just risking ur life. But everyone in that surgical room is put at risk also. Just imagine they're discussions when something goes wrong in there. can we save her. We have to save her. How will they live everyday seeing that girl in they're head if they hadn't saved her. Bc of her own mistake they were all put at stake. The nurses the surgical team EVERYONE. Not hounding on anyone but before you make your decisions maybe think of that scenario and that it's not just ur life that can be affected by ur choice. Gl to all and hope that helps bc it definitely is gunna help me!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How long after surgery did it take you to feel normal?
jami.1992 replied to Tim C's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had gastric bypass 5-14-20....it took about 3 months for me to feel what I would consider “normal”. The soreness and fatigue was gone after 4-6 weeks. I had some depression after my surgery due to not feeling like I could participate in family functions bc everything in my family was centered around food. Also most of my family didn’t know I had WLS. So lots of factors (that were my choice) played into that. But as of today I am 9 months post-op and have lost 130 pounds! I have more energy and I am happier than I have ever been. ❤️ Congrats on your surgery!! Wishing you happiness and a speedy recovery! -

i totally went "GREEN" w/my food today! LOL....i thought i'd share. we were @ the mall food court for lunch and i bought this SPINACH LASGANA....sad that i had to throw 95% of it away, BUT the good news is, I didn't eat ANY of the Pasta layers! I just picked out the spinach and the red sauce and cheese....it was good...pasta is over rated! of course, you couldn't have told me that pre-band! for dinner i baked chicken and made a big pot of mixed greens....i'm from the south! anyhow, i seasoned them up VERY WELL and used NO BUTTER!!!....i did cook some bacon into them for flavor though...but i ONLY at the mixed greens and left the chicken over for my hubby and son...TONS of leftovers, which is great! Bc who wants to cook on Saturdays! I do try to watch myself on the Salads...is it just me, or does it seem like a "Healthy" choice at first...and then you add all the good stuff and the fattening dressings, etc and before you know it, its not such a "healthy" choice after all.....am I the only one that has that problem? I can't eat just lettuce w/out the good stuff....the cheese and bacon bits and croutons and sunflower seeds...then the mushrooms and purple onions and tomatoes....some of its not bad...but alot of it is....especially the dressings. Also, is it just me...or do leafy veges go down ALOT easier then other foods and are ya'll able to eat more of them then other things? I can usually only eat about 1/4-1/2 cup of food, but with the Mixed Greens tonight, it was probably closer to 2/3 cup...and i was HAPPY about that...bc they were soooo good! but does anyone else notice that leafy greens go down easier and can eat more of them then other foods? i'm all into this challenge!!!! and excited about it too! can ya'll tell?!!! xoxo, Christie

Are you a man, a woman or something else?
Just-Ice replied to btrieger's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I, frankly, am quite sick of the politically correct bs. Everywhere you turn being afraid to say ANYTHING to might upset someones apple cart. Come on people, get over it. You are going to have things said in life that upset you. Not everyone's uptopia is going to exist. How sad is it that we supress our actions and words just to make sure we don't step on someones toes? (ie: had an employee that was afraid to say "black friday" to a black man.) Seriously?? Well.. guess what. I'm going to be authentic this year. That doesn't mean I'm a racist, or a bigit, or just an ass. I don't intentionally hurt peoples feeling, in fact, I am usually the peacekeeper, BUT, I won't turn a conversation around 15 times in my head to make sure on one gets their feelings hurt if it is something I really mean and do say. I don't feel others should have to say I'm "heavy" instead of "fat".. etc... This p.c. crap is ruining this world. AND.... for the records, btrieger, you crack me up too! -

Welcome to bandland! lol. I have had the band for almost a year, itll be a year June 3rd. I have lost 61lbs so far, and i need to lose 40 more. The lapband has helped me so much, and I know i made the right decision. Be patient with the long wait.... bc in the end it is well worth it. The important thing is, you have taken the first step... and thats all you need to do to keep on going in the right direction. Dont become discouraged. So all in all, you now know someone with a band! Any questions you can feel free to private message me, or on this post. -
New & Figuring out which wls is best for me. Any info & advice appreciated
w1770w@gmail.com replied to GypsyMom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi I am a 54 yo mom of 5 my oldest is 33 my youngest 16, I have what is commonly called in my office the (initials of our company) spread. A lot of us that work night shift just can seem to get rid of the weight. So last spring I opted for the lap band procedure and was very gung ho did everything up to aneseolgist appt but ended up backing out due to unexpected expenses. I was very heartbroken and frustrated and felt like it was my only chance. I had done well on the pre opt diet losing 32 lbs before surgery. But being bi polar my depression got the best of my and i spent the next mo wanting to die because of my lost opportunity--then i pulled myself together and ended up meeting a friend of my daughter who went through my dr and had had the sleeve procedure. As i watched her progress and describe her journey i decided this was the way to go, The silver lining in my black cloud so to speak. I have circumvented the cost problem and had my new appt with my surgeon yesterday, after receiving approval from my insurance, independence BC/BS,for the new procedure. It seems a little surreal at this point, but I am so thankful that my first choice fell through. Now I am ready to ramp up again and will start working on my weight now. I want my liver to shrink as much as possible. My best friend and I are coordinating our surgeries and are assured that a January date '12 will work out great. Now we wait to talk to the coordinator to contact us to make that appt. Wish us luck--our preferred date is Jan 16. Don't let any obstacals hold you back fight for what you want even if you have to get a new dr. -
Unable to get food down & not enough protein
VSG4Mag replied to ulalume's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The premier protein shakes are the best for me. They are 30 grams of protien each and packed with vitamins. In the beginning it took me over an hour to sip one down, but now it's about 40 minutes. I try to do 2 each day. I drink Gatorade G2, but I water it down. I like it better then the MIO drops (personally- so many friends love them). So I will pour the Gatorade into 3 different empty 16z bottles of water and then water it down. I do this bc the Gatorade still has calories and carbs and I'm trying to keep my carbs down as low as possible and don't want excess empty calories. I will drink plain water, but I find it hard too. I get my premier protein from COSTCO. Chocolate, vanilla and bananas and cream. They have strawberry and caramel on line. I've heard that Walmart may carry it too in 4 packs. It is WAY more paletable for me then any other protien shake so far. I just haven't found a powder that isn't gritty and gross - but again it's so personal, my friend will ONLY drink the powders. Vitamins are important too. I use patches (patchmd.com) and today was the first time since surgery I didn't wear them...and I felt like crap. Needed a nap and if I wasn't visiting family, I would have stayed asleep...so I think they are helping with my energy. The patches I love bc it's one less thing to factor into my day of "eating" and drinking. But get in you FLUID! Dehydration is one of the most frequent complications from surgery and it can be prevented (most of the time) with some effort. And believe me, I feel you, it was effort. I set alarms to remind myself to take sips and eat. lol. I hope you feel better. It takes some time, but focus on healing and the protien and fluids will help the healing. -
isprrnbr...join right in...Glad to have you join us. I dont really know anyone on this forum. We've just all decided to float along and do these challenges bc they really do help the overall wt loss!! Good luck to you! And let us know if you need anything :-)

Is anyone getting surgery without having insurance?
cinchgirl50 replied to cuchas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a self pay in Texas because my insurance does not cover any WLS. My surgeon is Dr. John Mason in Bryan, Texas. Even with selfpay there were tests that I had to clear in order for Dr. Mason to agree to my surgery. They were EKG, chest xray, blood work and psych evaluation. Dr. Mason works out of St. Joseph's Hospital and they do offer a "selfpay" discount. When all said and done with tests, surgery and hospital costs I will be out of pocket approximately $12,000.00. I started this journey back in January and will be having surgery on May 22, which is my choice. Surgery could have been a lot sooner if it would have been more convenient for me to done so. If anyone in this area is looking for a great surgeon, I highly reccomend Dr. Mason. On me personally he has performed 2 breast biopsies, Double mastectomy (I am a 4 year BC survivor, woohoo!) and gallbladder removal. All of which were without incident and I breezed through with flying colors and believe that it was because of his excellent surgical skills and passion for his patients. -
If you're watching your carbs (I say that bc of the mostly protein and veggies you're eating) the vodka won't hurt ya too much )) Drink it with diet drink or something

10 pounds in one day after surgery? You?
Makulafamy replied to Makulafamy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks ladies! That helps. Common sense tells me that its all the fluids, I stayed the night and had a constant drip also...but still...there is a part of me that wants to stomp my foot like a three year old and pout bc I worked so hard with the preop liquid diet and lost a lot of Water weight (15 pounds in 6 days) and now its back! When you are aching you want to step on the scale and see it go down...sort of a confirmation that the pain is worth it. Today is my third day out. I had a baaaad night trying to sleep on the couch. Woke up in a good amount of pain...but I think most of it was from the couch. I crawled into our waterbed today and it actually felt good (of course I took my pain meds also!) Thanks for posting. I needed some encouragement! -
About to give up...
mominkansas replied to Dawnana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Though your doc can request you pay for the COPY fee for your records, they have to give them to you. I would find a new doc. Don't burn any bridges till you find a new doc, but I think the new port thing is BS. What happens if you have an emergency? Are you going to wait in his office for 2 hours for him to see you? I had a prolapse and my tech lecctured me on why I waited so long to call him. You need to find someone that takes your band seriously so you can feel better! -
Enabling addictions
JessicaAnn replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What's so hard about this addiction is that we aren't physically able to abstain. Alcoholics can avoid bars/alcohol, drug addicts can completely avoid drugs, smokers can completely cut out cigarettes.. But food addicts can't cut out food unless we are tube fed the rest of our lives. We just have to realize WHAT the issue was before surgery, and try to resolve it. Perfect example is that while you (gamer girl) have a sugar addiction and must avoid all sweets, I've never had a sweet tooth and could take it or leave it. Me on the other had, am a carb addict. I love me some Pasta or bread or mashed potatoes. Plus, my portions were outrageous. As far as the portions go, I weigh my food so I could "empty my plate" without going over. I've slowly been learning that I don't have to empty my plate, and it's ok to leave food over. It comes from my mom and I being poor when I was little, and always being taught to eat everything on my plate. As far as the carbs go, I avoid them, just like you avoid sugar. They are a trigger, and once I have one, I want them all. I'm sorry for rambling! But I think a lot of people "enable" and act supportive is because the second someone uses "tough love", they are pounced on and called "heartless" or an "internet bully", so some refrain from being blunt all together. -
I don't think I know what I'm in for....
TulipStar replied to katie78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I used to have reflux all the time before I was banded....all the time. It was mostly bc of the juink I was eating. I haven't had it since my surgery! 6 months and no reflux-- not once!
