  1. Don't forget they have the luxury to work out like 8 hours a day and do you ever watch the "after" the Biggest Loser shows? Not trying to be a downer, but it's hard on your body to lose it as fast as they do and you don't learn for the long term on how to actually eat and keep it off. And I'm not sure what you mean by pureeing your food forever with the band, you make sure you chew well, but eat solids. If you aren't ready for this, don't do it. But personally I needed my own reminder on a long term basis to keep the weight off, not just lose and gain like I've done all my life. You can do this if you want it bad enough.
  2. I have been reading this site for a long time. I am still pre op but feel comfortable answering you. Some people have written that they can not eat some foods for months after surgery, chicken being one of them. Sometimes it is red meat or turkey ect.. but they can usually eat it again after a while. Take your time and eat the things you can for now. As far as the weight loss stopping- every body is different and everyone stops losing at some point while their body catches up. It is a shock to lose weight fast. When your body stabilizes it will resume losing. Sometimes it is because you are not eating enough and have to boost good calories. If you feel like you are eating enough it is your body playing catch up. If you feel you are not eating enough then up those good calories. I wish you the very best

re: sliming..... I had my first sliming incident last week, so it is still burned into my brain... First, I was eating too fast, and took too big of a bite. The pain in my chest was very, very intense. I got the hiccups. I decided to walk around to see if the stuck piece would go down. No dice. Then, my mouth and throat seemed to instantly fill with mucous-y saliva. I knew from reading these forums what was coming. I ran in the bathroom and threw up whatever was in my throat, plus all the snotty stuff. Copious amounts of slimy mucous-y saliva. Yuck. The good thing was that the pain was gone after that. My throat was sore for about a day. I hope that never happens again!!
  4. I posted something similar today too and assured by many other bandster's that this is the start of restriction and is perfectly normal... but it does feel odd! If there is pain though, which I too have experienced, it's likely that it may not have been chewed well enough or ate too fast or too much or even sometimes that food just may not agree with you... from my experience I can usually loop it back to one of those things. I was SUPER tight the first week after my 2nd fill and almost called for an unfill but then it eased up almost overnight and it has been ok since! Best of luck to you! Hugs!
  5. Now that I've chosen the RNY as my revision surgery it was reccommended by ladiesassie to ask about Protein shakes.... A person at work told me I should drink the already made Low Carb Slim Fast shakes- 20 grams of Protein and -0- sugar..... Is this something I can drink right out of the gate? would it be too sweet for me? Also what other types of drinks in powder form are GREAT tasting? I don't mind blending them up as long as they taste good. I really don't want to lose my hair ( My hair has already thinned out from the lap band) So it's important that I get in enough protein to keep what I have left :tongue_smilie: Any in sight would be very helpful to me. So let me know what your favorite high Protein Drink is- It must be sugar free though- I'm sure it will be difficult to find good tasting drinks that are sugar free..... Hey you guys have a great Tuesday today!!!! Only two more working days left this week!!! Thanks again for your insight!!:biggrin2:
  6. I like the ready to drink Isopure.....40 g and a clear liquid i drink it over 2 hours right now. I got a great deal $1.18 - $2,09 each cause they expired in August....... P also like GNC Performance 95 (25 mg soy protein) it is a mix! I kept those slim fast & the ones w/ carbs in my car when I was pregnany w/ my band cause I never knew how iy would go.. they aren'y horrible
  7. I went in oct 17 or 24, cant even remember now, had my scope today and I have a hiatial hernia and am set for surgery nov 14. I have been trying on liquid since 1st, not doing great. TJ Max mothers day commercial

I know I'm a few days late replying to this topic , but I just wanted to share my store with you. My whole life I was over weight. At 13 I finally got my period, but I knew something wasn't right because I got it once and it didn't come back for months. when I finally went to the gyno I was referred to a reproductive endocrinologist to find out i had PCOS. I did a few years of hormones and birth control to try and control it but it made me feel out of my mind (basically a maniac 24/7). I had to have a few surgeries due to growths inside of my uterus. And still till this day I don't get my period for months at a time. But ultimately I was told if I didn't lose weight I wouldn't be able to conceive naturally. Which no girl at all wants to hear. So at 19 I finally decided to get the lap band done. my starting weight being 305 getting down to 220. this making my body magically work and me getting pregnant only 6 months after getting the surgery. It wasn't planned but I was so excited. Now fast forward 2 years . I'm at my heaviest I've ever been 315 and my PCOS is deff worse. So I decided to get the sleeve done in June. I'm getting married in a year and I want to have another baby a few months after that. If I were to try it now it wouldn't happen so I'm using that as my biggest motivation!!! Stay positive and don't give up!

    Significant Weight Loss?

Jennifer a word of caution about this subject, this can really be a downer if you aren't one of the fast losers. This is not a race, and if I have only learned one thing, it is that everyone reacts to the band differently. With that said, as far as I can see the ones that have lost consistently from the start, are the ones that logged what and how much they ate.

55lbs down and more to go!!!

Luvmyband..you can "hear" your enthusiasm!! That is so awesome!! Keep up the awesome job!! Yea, you may have more to go but take it in small increments..lay out your plan and you will reach your goal before you know it. I think sometimes when you say I have 100 or 150 lbs to lose it sounds like such a huge number but if you break it down into..well for your since you are going to fast I am not sure..but I did 25 lb increments and the next thing I new 130 lbs were gone (11 months). I want to keep hearing you..so stay focused and remain positive!! Take care!

    Sad/fustrated. ..

It's easy to be sad and frustrated...we all want our excess weight off and we want it to happen fast. Our bodies take the time it needs to do just that. Yes, it is very common to stall...just keep getting in your Protein, Water and Vitamins...if you follow the plan, it will come off. You will hit stalls, throughout the entire process. Chin up, all is good
  13. Congrats on insurance approval. I am just starting my liquid stage today. My doc requires a 2 week pre op of clear liquids and a 2 week post op of clear liquids. They suggested Boost Breeze to me because I just can't handle slim fast and those kinds of suppliments. They also suggested Bene protein because it has no flavor. I have made some jello and added the beneprotein to it and it really doesn't taste so that is what I will be using. The boost breeze are not bad at all. They come in 3 different flavors (mixed berry, orange and I can't remember the other) They are really convenient too because they come in fruit juice boxes (like a kids juice box) and they each have 9 grams of protein. I only have to drink 3 of these a day and eat 1 cup of jello with beneprotein and I have the 30 grams of protein daily. It still has a little bit of after taste but not bad and nothing like those other shakes I tried. Good luck to you.

    Left side pain!

I was banded 6/2013 and I've pretty much always had that left sided pain whether it be really bad or just a dull ache intermittently. Don't know what it is, but pretty sure it's harmless after 18 months of dealing with it. I think it's just another one of the changes that come with the band for some people. Good luck.

    Something's Not Right

I actually went to the emergency room last Monday because of chest pain over the sternum area and then upwards into the clavicle area. It was sort of a pressure/dull pain and sometimes burning. After the first two days, i even got mini burps that were somewhat painful then disappeared fast, but the pressure/burning remained. It wasn't so much painful but annoying as all get out. Deep breaths are "tight" and a bit sharp. Letting air all the way out is a bit sharp as well. I went to two different doctors (neither bariatric) and both said that it was a muscular strain over the sternum. I still disagree. I have never had heartburn so I don't know what it feels like. I definitely feel like it is "deeper" though. I don't know what acid reflux or heartburn feels like but I think I might be experiencing it. It seems to be going away now after a week, but I wish I knew for sure what it was for sure. I, too, thought it was band related. The only thing that worries me is that sudden acid reflux symptoms can be a sign of slippage? or so I hear.
  16. J, please feel free to get in touch with me directly. You sound EXACTLY like I did, worries and all, before surgery. Please know that we have all been where you are, and if you have a realistic understanding of what the band can do, and realistic goals, your life can be changed by it. You ask: "Is it hard after the surgery to follow the fdiet if you didn't totally follow it pre op? " It's EASIER after the surgery, because you will have a TOOL that will help you say no after you've eaten enough. I won't kid you, it's not all kittens and lollipops, but physically it takes less food to fill us up. And it doesn't happen immediately, so there's time to ease into it. Nothing bad happens if you can't follow the "program" immediately after banding. You just won't lose weight as fast as you might have otherwise. But once you get a decent amount of restriction, you will be shocked at how easy it becomes to put down that extra whatever-it-is you might want to eat. And that's how we lose weight. Banding leaves us normal, functioning, healthy people, who have a smaller stomach capacity than we did before. If we learn to use it correctly we will lose weight. It's really simple!
  17. Hi there, I'm about a week ahead of you in the healing process and you're not alone in being hungry! My stomach started rumbling on day 3 and by day 5 I was ravenous! :hungry: At my two-week post op appt I told my doctor about the hunger and his feedback was that my healing seemed to be a bit quicker than some and that I could progress to mushies for a week and then onto solids (but PLEASE don't do anything that your doctor doesn't ok first ) As for the Water, I think it is an individual thing. At first they want us to sip because the stomach is swollen and you really do want to sip. But I drink water all day long and don't sip - I don't gulp - but I just drink normally. I think though once we start getting fills drinking liquids will be a bit different. My husband was banded last March and has had 5 fills and he says if he drinks too fast it feels like the water is "stuck"...goes through eventually, but he gets a weird sloshing feeling in his pouch. I know a bunch of bandsters who are much more experienced at this than me will answer your questions, but I wanted to chip in since I experienced some of the same stuff. Good luck taming the growling!

Does Anyone know About BCBS of NJ

I have Bc/Bs of NJ, Medallion, I think it's a PPO, I got a response very fast, about 10 days. Everything was covered except the anesthesia. (I think they have fixed the anesthesia part by now.)
  19. It sounds like you might of drank too fast and maybe too much at one time. Your stomach is still healing and swollen. When I started the full liquid stage I could only drink small amounts at a time (2-4 oz). As long as you stay hydrated you should be fine. But be sure to follow up with your doctor. Hope you feel better.

    Be for surgery

Your surgeon will tell you what their expectations are, but you'll never go wrong cutting down (or eliminating gradually) the things you currently eat and drink that you know will be off limits for a time postop: sodas and carbonated drinks, caffeine, fast food, simple carbohydrates. I started taking my postop vitamins three months ahead of time, I figured it couldn't hurt!
  21. I haven't been banded yet, I'm still futzing around with insurance. What I want to know is how fast you lose inches from the belly/tummy/gut area. I look like a big egg with legs (and arms and a head). Do you tend to lose it more or less evenly all over or do you notice it more in the larger parts?

    35 bmi, will i lose?

My BMI was 36 and I've gone from 246 to 179 in a year. The first 6 month was fast te last 6 have been maintaining

    Told to stop losing??

First of all congratulations on your success and happy 1 year! I would be baffled too. I would understand if you had wonky bloodwork or you were closing in on an underweight BMI. I’m curious what her response will be when she responds to your message. I have my 1 year follow up next month, it went by so fast. Keep us posted.
  24. Tonight. Hubby is out of town for the week. Me and two youguns. Got them to bed, got a bottle of Water, turned on the TV, then got up to get a bite. Yummy. Sour Cream and Onion Ruffles (for my daughter's lunch, right?) so I grab the bag and have a seat. Oh yeah, baby. Me time!!!!!!! Munch, Crunch...oops, wow, that's stuck....oh, lemme walk around, oh no, slime, stand at the kitchen sink and spit, spit, spit, ouch, Oh, please unstick! I took a few sips of Crystal Light, burp, ah, well...okay, unstuck then. Okay, lets put those chips away now. Buh Bye! So I had already had dinner, ate well, had no business eating those chips. But it was ME time!!! Pre-band, I'd have finished what was left in the bag. Now? I ate maybe 5 bites of a few chips at a time...too fast, obviously...and my band said "NO!" So I'm happily sipping my water and a cup of coffee. I love my band. I still ate chips. I'll live. And if I hadn't gotten stuck, I still would have stopped long before the bag was done. Not perfect, but better! Good luck with your research. Read lots, it helps.

    Havent told anyone yet

Ultimately it's your call and there's no right answer. I chose to only tell my parents, my kids and my best friend. I made my husband swear not to tell his mother because she spoke very harshly about a friend who had the lap band. Who needs that negative energy. I told a few coworkers that I was considering it and they were very negative and critical. So I never brought it up again. But a lot of people have had positive experiences. The few people I did tell have been tremendously supportive so that's been good. For me, I lose weight very slowly so I didn't have people thinking wow how'd she lose it so fast. Really I think it's a personal thing. I didn't even tell my siblings and to this day neither of them have even commented on my weight loss so they really didn't need to know.
