  1. Im getting a little discouraged,Ive read about the 3 week stall but im having the 3 week gain. I had gastric bypass 10/18 I also had my gallbladder removed. The first 2 weeks I lost 18 pounds.I was happy and then i go to my clinic for a class with people who had surgery the same day or around the same time.We were there to go over the next phase of eating .Everyone was discussing there weigh loss (30lbs and up) and what they've been eating.I thought to myself im eating far less than most of them why am I only down 18 and there 30+ At the time I was having 8oz of pureed soup,a protein shake or two,and 32oz of water.Im having trouble getting in 64oz of water.I thought maybe Im not eating enough so I started getting in 3 meals a day and now they are allowing us to eat solids at our own pace. I went to the store and bought full grain bread, avacodo, and sliced cheese. First thing in the morning Ive been having 1/2 of one slice of bread with avacodo or a slice of cheese. For lunch I'll have the other half of slice of bread with avacodo, and dinner I'll have pureed soup 4oz. I dont stop eating because Im full,I stop eating because Im afraid of eating to much and getting sick. I've been eating far less than I have ever eaten in my life and now everytime I step on the scale for the past couple of weeks i've been gaining weight everyday!! I dont get it.Why would I be gaining weight when Im eating healthy and Im not going over 4oz each time I eat. Ive gained 3 lbs so far.

The warning some programs have about microwaving your food really just has to do with how microwaves can dry out proteins, making them dry and tough, not good for a new tummy. The solution is to make sure if you are microwaving a protein like chicken or beef, that you have it in some sort of sauce or gravy to keep it tender. Sometimes damp paper towels will work too. Anything that helps the meat not dry out! Or even heating at 50% power and stirring frequently. But yes, you can use a microwave, just be careful how you heat things.

Honestly, I have found hardly anyone else with as restrictive of a pre-op diet, though I'm already sort of getting used to it. Unbelievably, I woke up this morning hardly hungry at all! Throughout the day, I've had to force myself to drink the protein shakes. I definitely feel like there were plenty of times when I could have done without it and not been bothered. What a difference a day makes! The only time I've gotten really, reallllly hungry was when driving by my favorite Hibachi spot on my way to pick up a blender (I've decided to invest one solely for the purpose of turning ice into snow and giving myself SOMETHING to chew on/crunch). And oh my gosh, the YouTube ads for food have been downright taunting. 😩 It's kind of crazy how prevalent food encouragement is in our day-to-day, something I haven't noticed before now. Anyway, I'm hoping that our tummies can keep up the good work and that Day 20 will be as easy as Day 2. Thank you for the encouragement, sending best wishes right back at ya!

Hi all! I had gastric sleeve on November 6th and am just now getting the required liquids in. It has been kind of rough. I didn’t have a pre-op diet so I guess I wasn’t as prepared as I thought I was. Only thing that I wanted to eat was crushed ice but I’ve finally moved to protein water, protein shakes and broth. I’m so glad I found this app. I had to go get IV fluids and a steroid today and will repeat Monday at my week check in appointment. Anyway, just saying hi! Good luck to all!

My vision doesn't go white with the hypoglycemia. I get severe brain fog, shaking, heart racing and sweating. Unfortunately, it has a tendency to sneak up on me. If I don't eat every 2 hours - whether I'm hungry or not - I'll end end up crashing. They want me to stick to 60g of protein per day. My nutritionist wants me to stay away from protein shakes, but I do drink them on occasion. They help get something into me quickly, when my blood sugar drops. I'd say I probably drink one a week. I'm having an issue with my diaphragm that is keeping me from doing any exercise that works my core. We're working on fixing that, now. Once I'm able to start lifting weights, my protein intake won't be as much of a problem. It's so weird how different doctors have such wildly different plans.

Great job! My doctors are very happy with where I am. I've regained about 10 pounds, which I'm not super happy about, but here we are. LOL! My personal weight goal is 150. My doctor's goal for me is 163. The lowest I got was 166. I'm struggling with food choices, right now. I'm eating too much protein. But proteins are easy, grab-and-go, fast to prepare, so they're what I tend to reach for. But, they also make you gain weight, if you eat too much of them. I'm trying to strike a balance. I've also developed hypoglycemia. So, I have to eat about every 2 hours. When I prep my food, I do better with my eating. Again, the grab-and-go thing really helps. And having veggies already washed and cut up, in the fridge, encourages me to eat less protein and more vegetables - which I really need to be doing. But, overall, I'm doing really well. I'm no longer diabetic. My cholesterol is normal. My blood pressure is actually on the low end. I'm off of all my obesity-related medications. I had my final visit with my therapist, on Tuesday. He thinks I'm in a really good place and don't need him anymore. Besides a couple of little speed bumps I've had along the way (an issue with my diaphragm and the hypoglycemia) this has been an amazing, wonderful, journey. I have no regrets.

I'm on Day ONE of my three-week long, 800cal/day, clear liquid + protein shake ONLY pre-op diet. 😩 To say that I'm already feeling in over my head is an understatement. From what I've read though, I should only have to deal with this ravenousness for about 4 more days or so before my body gets used to it. Hopefully, that time comes sooner than later. I've started having the flutterbies for sure and have had moments where I consider if I'm strong enough to do this for another 20 days. But, I've been trying to stay focused on different YouTubes of people discussing their experiences and before/after pics -- that helps me keep my eye on the prize. 🤪 Sending strength to everyone else in this pre-op liquid hellscape, you are a champion! 💥

  11. Absolutely! The point is now there are more choices for the wider population. Many of the patients that qualified for WLS will never pursue it. They are no longer left without an effective option.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Hi June folks, Im hanging in there. I think we all have are good days and bad days but I try to focus on the good and why I decided to do this. I think once we all make it closer to that 1 year mark things will become alot easier. I have my stalls as well and it use to get to me but now I just stay consistent, make adjustments from time to time and continue to work out. During those stalls I still notice a change in my clothes, so eventho i didnt loose weight or gained a few pounds clothes are still getting closer, its weird. For those having stalls for long periods of time try tracker your food, I stay away from Protein power and anything that says Keto. That made a difference for me. Hang in there guys.

I'm still on liquids so can't have much, but have you tried bone broths? Or strained soups? I just get the Campbell's soups, make them, then strain them through a sieve to get all the solids out. It helps counteract the sweet stuff a LOT and there are a variety of flavors to choose from! You could even add an unflavored protein to it if you want!

I had my Bypass surgery on November 2nd, one week ago today. I’ve struggled some, been emotional, but mainly can’t stand protein drinks anymore. It’s all I can consume that is liquid/pureed. I was always a very picky eater, mostly because of the texture of food, so liquid/pureed foods are not going well for me. I have 7 more days of this and need some suggestions on what others are consuming post-surgery. Thanks!

    HELP with Vitamins!

Congratulations on reaching your goal weight. Yay! I’m going to push a different view. Do you need all of those vitamins (& yes we have different needs)? Do your blood tests show you are lacking in anything? Or do they say you have more than enough of any you are taking? Find out if you need any specific ones & then take those. Remember excessive amounts of some vitamins can have side effects & other we simply pee out what we don’t need. Yes, some do have issues absorbing certain vitamins & minerals though it isn’t as common with a sleeve as with bypass. I only had to take a multivitamin & briefly vitamin D while I was losing. My surgeon said I could stop them at about 8 months by which time I had passed my goal. My blood work was great & still is 4.5yrs later though we did eventually pick up with my regular blood tests that my vitamin D levels drop in winter so I take a vitamin D mid autumn to mid spring. I do have a malabsorption issue with protein which began after my gall was removed. Malabsorption after gall removal can happen but with protein is unusual.

Getting excited for those of you pre-op approaching your dates!! For those in the pre-op diet, it seems so slow but you WILL get through it! Keep going!! For those post surgery, how are things feeling now?? I'm officially one week post op today! I continue to have the weird stomach cramping when I try to drink anything other than water. I'm hitting my fluid goals every day but of course not my protein since my stomach won't have it! I'm still pretty sore and napping in the afternoon. My incisions have decided they hate the surgical glue and today flared into a red rash so I sent a message to the surgeon, hopefully they can suggest something. I weighed myself today (I weigh only once a week) and according to my scale I am down 10 lbs from surgery day!! I freaked out, shrieked, weighed myself again, then went and tried the other scale which thinks I'm 7 lbs down. Either way I'm officially below 300!! I haven't been that way in years. I'm so, so excited. I was really worried this wasn't going to work for me because I only lost 6 lbs on the pre-op diet. I feel a little better now. LOL
  17. I'm one week post op and have been having the oddest stomach spasms when I try to consume anything other than water (and it happens with water sometimes too). It feels like my stomach bunches up into a fist and tries to somersault within my belly. It provokes a wave of sharp pain and nausea and is very unpleasant. I mentioned this to the doc when I was in the hospital and he gave me a med that worked some for the smaller ones, but it has stopped working (he warned it might). I can usually drink water but anything heavier like a protein drink, a strained soup, a protein broth, or even jello provokes this odd cramping sensation. Sometimes it even happens when I'm not eating or drinking at all (in the middle of the night). Has anyone else had this happen early post op? I'm still on liquids and my surgeon said it is okay for me to focus on hydration right now instead of protein so I've been hitting my hydration goals everyday, but getting very little protein beyond what is in lactose free milk. I'm starting to wonder if my stomach will ever let me progress my diet beyond water. LOL

I can only eat from a list of raw veggies after I’ve eaten all meals and protein shakes for the day. The meals aren’t totally liquid but like a light string cheese or dry Cheerios. I’ve actually craved pickles but they are not in my list. My favorite shakes are probably Fair Life chocolate at the moment.

    Soft Food

I was getting sick of the sweets like yogurt and protein shakes in my initial pureed stage, but I found a few more options once soft food came around. I actually like the Healthy Choice Lentil soup. Eggs were one of my favorites since there's a few ways to make it for variation. Typically one scrambled egg mixed with one tablespoon of cottage cheese so it's not as hard. Or just a soft boiled egg. Tuna packets were another. I would mix with cottage cheese and a tiny bit of light mayo. Adds more protein plus was smooth enough. And one recipe i was excited with since it made me feel like i was having a pasta dish/pizza taste was the Ricotta bake. https://bariatricbits.com/single-serve-baked-ricotta/

    cream of chicken soup?

I would think a scoop of powder is enough, add it to your portion not the whole pot, and make sure the temp is below 140 or the protein will clump. I don't add protein to mine right now because my stomach is still struggling with protein feeling too heavy. I just add a can of lactose free low carb milk to mine, strain it, and then thin it out a little more and sip it like that. Once I can stand the protein feeling I'll probably add it, but right now I'm focusing on getting my fluid goal daily. So you CAN eat it without the protein, but most add the protein to try and meet their protein goals while still on liquids.

    Movement and liquid diet ideas

Yeah, it might taste better after you are stuck with nothing but shakes, but I tend to doctor that broth up too. Not my favorite. LOL Post op I've just been getting my favorite Campbell's flavors and straining them so only the broth remains. It tastes better than some of these bone broths (though I still like Thai Kettle & Fire ones) and is cheaper! Not as much protein though, but that's what the shakes are for.

    Poor loss after surgery!

I had my surgery in May . By July 1st I lost 13 pounds and then stopped. It's now Nov and I still haven't lost an ounce more. My dietician said she still considers me a success because my labs were perfect and I did drop 2 sizes ! I'm eating very low carb and high protein ,so I guess instead of getting lighter - I'm getting tighter ...LOL
  25. Hi there, I’m 3 weeks post op today and 52 years old . I did not do a great LRD and probably didn’t lose anything . The day after surgery I was 14 st 9 and today I am 14 stone 5 lb!!! I have been working hard to get my protein in averaging 80g per day and now I’ve managed to increase calories up to 700-800 per day as my fatigue was so bad. has anyone else had such a poor initial loss? thank you
