    out of control.

I put on 10 lbs before surgery-and then had to loose 18 lbs before they would perform the surgery My Dr counted the weight I had on the day I first saw him, the weight I had to loose was initially 8 lbs but because it takes a while to do all the testing and getting approval I gained 10 more lbs. In April I had to start dieting I had 5 weeks to loose the weight by my pre op check in-or surgery would be cancelled. I did manage to loose it thank goodness

From the album: Journey (Original Title!)

Another before picture, taken about 6 weeks before surgery. Weight about 275.
  3. Hello there pre/post sleevers! I have scrubs that I need to get out of my closet. 6 pairs navy blue/black/burgundy bottoms--2X. And tops to match--solid and printed. Asking only $5 per set (one top/one bottom) plus USPS shipping (about $5) so all in all, you'd get a set of scrubs for $10...not bad! Message me if you're interested and ill email you pics of the I've got. Also, some nice trouser pants-shirts- sizes 22/20/18. $5 each. Nothing has holes!

    7 days out and struggling

you're down to your original surgery weight because, like most of us, you probably "gained" weight while in the hospital because of all the IV fluids. It can take up to a week for them to work their way out of your system. I've heard of people "gaining" as much as 10 lbs while in the hospital! fluids go through our stomachs really fast since our pyloric valves were bypassed, so I'd be very surprised if you could stretch your stomach from fluids. Maybe you could if you REALLY slammed them, but 40-50 oz over the course of the day isn't "really slamming" them. I've never heard of anyone doing that from drinking fluids, and we were never warned we could stretch our stomachs from that. So...I'm not sure what to say...

    Frustrating :(

Yes, 10 lbs a month is typical of a sleevers honeymoon year. Yes, the first month or two should be more, but you're body is still traumatized. Check back after one month. Get your 70 grams of Protein, 64 ounces of Water, and walk 45 minutes a day, and before you know it, they'll be calling you skinny!

    Traveling?

I am a frequent flyer and travel way too much. I flew 10 days after being banded and many flights since and have never noticed 1 iota of anything band related. Have a great trip.
  7. I had the gastric sleeve on 01/24/2018, and I was wondering if any of you all hit a stage after surgery where you didn't lose weight for a couple of days. I have weighed the same amount for 1 week now and I have been exercising and doing what I was supposed to, has anyone else had this happen to them?

    DC Support groups?

Medstar St. Mary’s has a support meeting the second Saturday of the month at 10 that’s really active. Medstar Southern Md has their meeting the first Monday of the month at 7 in Brandywine.

    DC Support groups?

I'm in Silver Spring and will be having my bypass surgery at Sibley Memorial Hospital in February 2019. I believe they have a support group, and I would definitely like to participate. I would like to know about other DC area support groups that have worked for people. Perhaps we could organize a monthly informal meetup?
  10. My doc never set goals but the nutritionist (I had one compulsory visit) scoffed at me when I said at 5ft 10, I wanted to be 70kg. I pretty much told her to f..k off, yes, in those words! Rude biatch. She was really scornful and said I'd never do it. The averages lost with the lapband are due to a number of factors, nearly ALL of them within your personal control. Averages are a conglomerate of things, including people who are ill, people who are much older than you, people who dont exercise, people who got banded coz their neighbours knew a friend of a friend and it sounded like a good idea at the time, and people who are non compliant for a whole number of reasons, not to mention the growing number of people who appear to have complete idiots for doctors, who insist on doing insane things like trying to put 5mls in one single fills into a 10ml band to ah, reach good restriction quicker, and the have to unfill and start again whilst the patient recovers! You are in control of what you put in your mouth, how much you exercise and especially of how much you know about the band so that if your doctor is one of these ones that just jumped on the bandwagon so to speak and saw it as a good way to make a bit of money, YOU can tell HIM that huge fills are not a good idea or that you actually can have fills closer together than four years or whatever it is they're trying to pass off as knowledge and experience. You just have to empower yourself and then set yourself to the task. 100% of weight lost with a band is not unusual and its not a really big ask either, it just takes consistency and common sense.

    First Workout After Surgery

Do you mean lose 10 by the end of August? Trust me if you have been following a strict diet of liquids only you will have lost the 10 by the end of August. 2 weeks post op, I was down 7lbs from my surgery date weigh- in and I hadn't done any exercise.

    Frustrating :(

I stopped losing at about 2 1/2 weeks, (sleeved 10/09/15) but I started back. Stay off of the scale and watch how your clothes fit. You may not be losing pounds at the moment, but you can be losing the inches. I have lost 50 pounds so far
  13. 1st consult w/ surgeon today went really well. Since getting verbal approval from ins he expects to have auth by Monday so all I need to do is meet w/ the nutritionist, have my psych eval (scheduled for this Monday), and start my 10 day preop diet on the 29th. I am still in shock, I cant believe its really happening!!

    What's up with that fill?

I had port revision one week ago and they put 4.5 in my 10 and (1st fill ever) and by monday, I had to have 2.5 removed b/c I was throwing up all weekend. Then today, I had a complete unfill cause I cannot keep soup down. Please help. Are you supposed to throw up afer fills? Is my band failing me?

Anyone know about UHC plan types?

I have UHC (United Health Care) - and am working thru the approval process now. When I called the insurance company (in July) they told me that I had to be 40% (or more) BMI - or 35% BMI + other co-morbidite symptoms. When I visited the Dr office (in August) they contacted the insurance as well - they said in addition to the BMI requirements, I would also need a Psych eval, nutritionist consultation and 2 years of medical (weight) records... I am doing my psych eval (Mon 9/29) and my nutritionist consulation (Wed 10/1) - then it will be off to UHC for "approval" (fingers crossed!) FYI ~ My coverage is 80% (with a max out of pocket of $1600)
  16. Hello All, I have 8.25 in a 10 band. I so wish that I can get that beautiful, post op restriction feeling. Is that what the sweet spot feels like? I don't know when I'll be there. I can still eat much more then I should and am following the diet plan and Water fast. Are any of you fully banded with total restriction? Thanks, Suz
  17. Banded today at GBMC in Maryland. No problems......Home in less than 8 hours. Sitting up in bed doing this. So far so good.........very pleased.

Me too! Are u guys on he liquids my doc required 10 days !
  19. Hi all. I had my sleeve surgery on 8/13. I've had no real complications (minus constipation). I did hit a major stall (17 days) about 10 days post op. Since then I've lost about another 4lbs, making for a total of 23lbs lost in 5 1/2 weeks. I'm stalled again. I did have a surgeon's appointment and before I even brought up the stalls he said he wanted to mention something to me. He asked if I had been diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome. I said no and he said that when he saw inside of my body my fat distribution was consistent with those with Metabolic Syndrome and said he has no doubt that I would have been diagnosed soon without surgery. I asked him what that even meant. He said I would probably lose weight more slowly because it was resilient fat that did NOT want to come off, but once it came off the other fat would start "melting off". When I got home I looked up Metabolic Syndrome. I do sometimes have high blood pressure if I eat high sodium foods, but have never had high blood sugar or triglycerides or any other risk factor. Wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with this and how slow is slow on weight loss? I don't want to make an excuse for slow weight loss or all these stalls and get complacent. Is it possible this surgery will fail because of this? I'm so nervous now and have a million questions I never thought to ask.

    Back at it!

It helps me to use My Fitness Pal and track everything. Remember to eat Protein first and allow 30 minutes after you eat before you drink Water. Stock up on low fat and fat free Proteins. When I'm starving (in my head) I eat plain yogurt or cottage cheese or drink hot tea. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Need MOTIVATION to go to the gym!

You could try some workout DVDs. That way you can pretty much have your workout done in the time it takes you to get to the gym. I enjoy rebounding and Step with Caribbean Workout and "10 Minute Solution - Ultimate Kettlebell Fat Burner" is OK if you only have time for a quick workout (does strength and cardio). I'm also gonna dust off my Barry's Bootcamp DVDs as those guys are very inspiring!
  25. So I figured I'd post post-op bypass. Today is Day 4 Post-op. It went really well. I was in the hospital two nights. Day 1 & 2 I was so nauseated I needed lots of anti emetics! Day 1 I had dilaudid PCA for pain and I think I just pressed it for the fun I it. Thy took down the pain pump day 2 in hospital. I actually have been getting away with minimal Percocet & Tylenol ...but mainly only Tylenol. The gas was horrific. I think I am a little addicted to gas-x (maybe because I like the taste & can't have anything else). I am on liquids...have my intense nalgene (48oz) bottle & am drinking my fluids adequately. SF pops are my buddies and I've been drinking Water & crystal light. As well as my Protein drinks. It's so crazy how I can only take small sips...my stomach gets mad and I swear my back starts hurting. But so far I am sooo glad I did this. I did this for my health, my confidence, my wife & my future children! I am down 10 lb so far. I even did the Wii a bit today! <<Ash>> Pre Bypass: 247.2 Goal: 140
