My friend just came to visit. She asked to see my erosion pics cause she wanted to compare them to her Dad's recent horror story. He's a typical skinny guy who eats too fast. He was woofing down an apple that got stuck low in his esophagus. He freaked out and guzzled Water to push it through, but later almost bled to death. The ER surgeon, who had to repair his torn esophagus, said he would have been dead in one more hour if he didn't come in since he was literally bleeding to death. Now I have one more thing to nag at my husband for. He's 2 chews and a gulp, so either he slows down or I start blending his pizza. The stomach can be a very scary place.

Burping Causing Me Discomfort
Sooverit! replied to sour's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too I'm fine when eating but when I'm in the car it starts. Luckily too it doesn't just come out too often when I'm in a conversation or with others. I had 4 years of burpfree living after the band now suddenly it's a real problem. Hoping it's just that we're eating too fast and gulping air...certain food don't cause the gas. So food journaling for a day or two might help. -
since I've last posted my weight of 211 on the 16th,I thought I had not lost any weight at all.In fact a week ago my weight jumped up 4 pounds after I had some caramel popcorn (not a whole lot either) and a frozen yogurt. At the time my stress levels was at an all time high and we had to make some very very difficult life altering decisions.I really wished I could just eat and eat like before but HATED the weight that came back. After last weekend I decided to do the right things again but still didnt think I had lost any weight this week. Well, when I converted my weight from kilos to pounds I was super pleased to see I am down another 2 pounds.Yes, 209 today!!!!!! I am hoping for the weight loss to pick up a little again as I am really exercising hard now.I am also eating very clean foods again. One thing that bugs me though.Since my sugar fender bender I am experiencing what I believe is hunger. It feels physical to me.Might be head hunger though. Will have to explore this a little further but I am worried about this.I also feel at times that I want to eat more. When I eat only proteins I eat 3oz and do feel full but not satisfied. Anyhow,I am on my way with the weight loss again as I have already booked our next holiday and I NEED to be at least 30 pounds lighter by then...I will work my butt off for this! Will meet up with my Dubai sleeve buddies some time. They are all doing very very well. So,next entry might only be when I've dropped the next 5 pounds....but that is going to be soon and I am going to drop this fast...hehehe!

lately I have being thinking about being such a pleaser. Not only a peoples pleaser but everything and everybody. Not a happy pleaser either for the past few years. When you st unrealistic standards you are doomed to fail. Not only that my fear of failure and success has become a serious stumbling block in my life. My friend ( very successful lady) always says she is a plodder. She just starts somewhere without contemplating the whole big picture and adjusts as things play out.Me on the other hand needs the see the outcome even before I have started and I have become stuck as everything has the potential not to be perfect. And when the scale moves down I can be positive about the long term outcome and when it doesnt I feel dread coming my way. It is also stopping me in other aspects of my life which really needs changing. If something can be accomplished fast in a short time I can see the big picture but most things in life just dont happen that fast. So this is my resolve. In order for me to do a different degree (I have one in nursing, got it 25 years ago, never needed math for that) I have to do IGCSE math and English. That is like year 10 math.I felt very resentful of this for years and would lose the plot completely because I just didnt want to do it as it would waste another year of my life. This year I am going to do it.Like a little 15 year old.But maybe starting somewhere again will teach me the patience I lack to just plod along and finally reach the end of something. And maybe this will help me along this weight loss journey that is a journey forever and not only for now. Weight 205 today!

The truthis I know I should not weigh every day.And if I had listened to myself then I would not have weighed again today after yesterday's great loss. Well,up a pound this morning and I am sure it will be down again some time later. Lesson, weigh in once a week only.....sure I will do this...lol Second thing.I struggle with having no addictions left so tonight I decided to eat some crisps.Measured 30 grams,1 spoon of hummus and settled down to eat it.Well,of course I ate to fast but after 15g I was stuffed and called my daughter to save me by taking it away...and now I am sitting here with a super stuffed feeling that I didnt know was possible and cannot understand how it happened with so little. Ok,dont know if I will learn a lesson in this but I will think twice about eating this again.

It is also fun to do intervals. Warm up for about 5 mins. Then, increase your speed for 2-3 mins, increase speed 3-4 mins, increase spped 4-5 mins, etc., and then move back down at the same intervals until you cool down. Another thing I like to do is warm up, walk at a fast clip for 5 mins, run for 1, walk for 4, run for 1.5 mins, walk for 3, run for 2 mins; etc. continue with this to shake it up and keep pushing your fitness level. You can also do this with inclines at a fast walk...moving it all the way up to the highest incline and then backing down. Tough! Have fun! Rose

Restriction - Refresh my memory! :-) (long)
Oregondaisy replied to Bel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't had a fill since Dec. and I am sure I don't need one. I can eat whatever I want, just not very much. I drink Water slowly. Mainly because if I drink too fast, I have a burp stuck and it's uncomfortable until I get this loud burp out. So I tend to sip on water. I am usually on liquids for 24 hours after a fill and then mushies for 24 hours after that. That seems to work well for me. If you are unfilled, start with a small one. It's better to ease into restriction and see how it goes. Hopefully, you live close to your doctor. I think people end up having problems when they live too far and need an unfill and won't go because they don't want to make the drive. -
didnt realize how long a minute was lol
soanl1412 replied to soanl1412's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome congrats on getting banded on tuesday! I am so happy I did it I am a nurse so I also was "trained" to eat fast or not eat at all... its still super hard to eat slow at work. I only get to start drinking Water in the afternoon so I don't drink with meals. I try and catch up at night but it is really difficult -
Sliming question...
Aliciafl2014 replied to GRE110's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll know sliming when it happens! Very scary. If I eat thick bread or too fast it happens. I guess it's the bands way of teaching you -
Hi everyone, After years of failing to lose weight through diets and exercise, I decided WLS is the best option for me and I'm opting for the sleeve. What makes me worried/anxious/nervous - what if it doesn't work for me? I failed at every attempt I've tried! I've been struggling with my weight nearly all of my life, and have been through countless gyms, group exercises, weight loss programs (LA Weight Loss, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig), and I've even tried weight loss products like Stacker 4 and Slim Fast. How many of us have been to they gym, worked out for hours, for months, and have barely seen any weight loss? I'm about 75% complete with my surgeon's prerequisites, and will be meeting him on Dec 13. That's when I'll also have my psych evaluation. And what I'm hoping for, a surgery date. So I reach out to our wonderful community because I know we have all felt and tried so many things to lose the weight. Have you gone through the same jitters/self-doubt about the weight loss surgery? It is so permanent! I plead for some positive success stories! Thank you!

Insurance requirements for Anthem BCBS
smb123 replied to Ready2sleeve17's topic in Insurance & Financing
I too have Anthem and have meet my deductible this year. I haven't started the six month thing yet. I am due to start that on 8/6 just incase but I had a neurology apt scheduled on July 24th for over a month and discovered I had Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension which is causing vision loss and my neurologist doesn't want me to wait that long to get the surgery. She is going to try to get my insurance to waive the 6 month diet which I hope they do. I have heard good things about BCBS though and them approving fast. SO just stay on top of it and it should work out. -
10 days post-op--shouldn't I be dropping pounds everyday?
devichan replied to Paradise Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's no "should" or "shouldn't," first of all. Sometimes the adjustment period where your body is trying to get used to being different happens earlier. And it sounds like you are still dropping, just not as fast as you expected. Expectations are your worst enemy! Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Keep moving. It WILL happen. -
Sudden addition to peanut butter ? ? ?
LiveLoveLaugh replied to Barb119's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
NO. NO. NO stop doing it!! I know what your talking about. This is a slider food... It's sweet, sticky and oh so yummy. But high in fat, fat, fat. It's okay in portion control but if your eating to much and have no control you need to step away fast!! Easier said than done but I too had this problem with peanut butter it's a trigger food for me and I avoid it now. If I don't I'll eat it in heaping spoon fulls and gain. Do your best to get rid of it today!!! -
What does full feel like?
buchannon replied to MissyG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also get that "need to burp" feeling and know it's time to stop. I just go slow and listen to my body now, something I wish I could have done pre-op. If I eat too fast (especially something that is harder to get down post-op like chicken) I do burp (not really burp, but more like regurgitate) up some frothy disgusting stuff for a while and feel very uncomfortable, but that's only happed twice so far. -
Help Me I Feel Like a Failure
Chrisann replied to Ms.Toya's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ironically enough, I was NEVER a fast food person. I though the chili would be good during the mushy phase, as I ran it through the Magic Bullet, but it didn't sit well. The fried rice was a moment of weakness, and it didn't sit well either. The KFC, I actually went for the mashed potatoes, 120 calories, 4.5g fat, and they were out, so I got 3 wings, pulled off the skin and shredded the chicken. I don't know what has gotten into to me since I could count on one hand the number of times I had been in a fast food restaurant in 5 years, and here, 2 in two weeks. -
Not to worrie cynthia c. You should be just fine.. throwing up is not somthing you want to do. this happens when you eat to fast or eat somthing that your band does not allow. Be very carfull with throwing up because you can come Potassium deficien. And this happen to me effects of low potassium put me in the hospital thinking I was having a heart attack. Low potassium has a lot of the same feelings of a heart attack, and the meds for it to bring the levels back. The pills are so huge they are like horse pills so I could only take the liquid and yuck, taste so nasty. Good luck to you..

I've learned from this board what a commitment it is to make the band work- I'm scheduled for surgery May 26. I am so looking forward to the long term support the band will give me if I work it right! I've been working at it pre-op for over two months, and am now 3 days in to a 14 day Protein shake pre-op diet. It's not easy- but I am committed, so I've lost 17.5 lbs. I figure losing now will make for having to lose less on the other end. I've also been practicing eating like I'm already banded, journaling my intake, and walking 2-3 miles at a fast clip daily in addition to Wii Fit and the elliptical. I'll join a gym when I've recovered enough from surgery. So, yes, it takes work to do it successfully, but I think it is worth it. My health and my self-esteem need it. I wish it had been available when I was your age!

Sleeve Surgery 10/27/21
lizonaplane replied to debchara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a fair amount of pain for the first three or four days home from the hospital. I took one narcotic pill each day for three days, but otherwise tylenol was fine. The pain was only noticeable when I got up from lying down (the worst!), when I sat on the edge of my couch, or when walking (my stomach jiggled and that hurt my incisions). By the end of the first week, I had almost no pain and was able to walk around the block easily. At 2 weeks out, I was walking two miles at my usual slow pace. It was very hard to drink water the first few days, but it got better fast. I had to take the tiniest sips and wait between sips. Taking pills was really hard the first week too. I was so hungry the first two weeks when I was on liquids and even now that I am starting solids, it's hard to know how much to eat. Still learning I guess! -
I definitely keep my mouth shut. I too have "friends" who eat terribly. Tons of sweets and fast food. I wonder how they're still losing weight. Then I also have friends who I think don't eat enough solid food. I am by no means perfect and I have some off days for sure. I just hope that I can inspire by example. I hope to get ideas from others by seeing what they eat also. So, no, I wouldn't say anything.

Im 31/2 weeks post op and get pains?
JP69 replied to jenniferg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try some refried beans for protein, you might tolerate it better than meats for the moment. I am 10 weeks and I get that sharp pain every now and then when I eat to fast. -
Question Regarding Dumping Syndrome
Bedhead replied to pmartin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've experienced dumping once after taking a Protein shake too fast. It was very scary and extremely acute. It wasn't just jitters- my whole body was shaking, I could barely walk from the living room to my bedroom and my heart was racing while my whole my body was covered in a cold sweat. -
Once I was an active contributor to this site. But I haven't posted in several years because I was busy living my life. Last year I felt it was time to visit my surgeon Dr. Will Aguila,MD for a band check only to find he'd left the practice. I met the new doctor but wasn't impressed. Didn't get a fill. Fast forward a year... I really needed a fill but couldn't find my original Dr! But as luck would have it.... I ran into him at a social function recently!! He's opened 3 offices in the Tampa Bay Area! So if anyone has been looking for him like I was please let me know and I will pass along his contact info! i just left his office with my fill. I'm back on track!

I have the same thing and I asked my surgeon today during my post op appt. He stated this is stomach spasms and its an indication of fullness, eating to fast or just over working your stomach.
