So today it's been 4 months since my surgery. I had calculated through a couple of formulas that I would be down exactly 50 pounds by 3/20. (I'm analytical like that) I missed it by 2 pounds..damn. First I had about a 3 week stall, since then I've lost exactly 1 pound a week. For the last 30 day's I've lost exactly 5 lbs. That's pretty depressing. I could have done that or better with out the sleeve. I've eaten right getting plenty of protein, logged on MFP, done the cardio, kept the carbs low, drank the water till I am about to float away. Still only 1 lousy pound a week. I only have a couple of months left before the weight loss starts to get tougher. I wanted to be at goal weight by August (my 55 birthday), because i am going hiking in Alaska and do not want to be a fat ass doing that. Now, don't know if I can get the 53 pounds off by then. Very discouraged about that. So today, I had to go buy some clothes because a while back I ditched all my "skinnier" clothes thinking that I would never get under 260 pounds. Since surgery, I've basically worn track pants that have a drawstring. I have a job opportunity and needed a pair of slacks and dress shirt. For the inital interview, I wore a suit that was at least 15 years old, that somehow didn't get donated to the smiling g. At the store, I picked out a pair of pants that I thought should fit and tried them on. The were too snug , so I had to get a size that I've worn for a long time. I was soooooo bummed. Granted it is 3 sizes smaller than I was at surgery, but I really was expecting to be down one more size. So I am beginning to waver about the sleeve. I read about all these people that have lost 60-70-80 pounds at 4 months. It is depressing. I am glad for them, but for the life of me I can't figure out what I am missing. Not a great way to celebrate an anniversary.

3 weeks post op and stalled.
Bufflehead replied to Julia Johnson Armstrong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do a search on the forums here for "3 week stall" and you'll see that not only has it happened to "anyone" it happens to just about everyone. It's so common that this question gets posted here every single day! Not kidding! Keep doing what you are supposed to be doing and stay off the scale for a couple of weeks if it is going to drive you crazy. And hang on, because you will stall again during weight loss, even when you are doing all the right things. -
So Im 6 months post-op and down 91.5 pounds. I have just dropped 4 pounds after a 3 week stall and then dropping my cals super low for 2 days. My problem is today I am feeling super hungry! It is most likely just in my head but I am thinking of food all the time.On days like this I do tend to grab something here, take a bite there and even though I dont do more carbs I do more calories. Why am I the only one that feels 800 calories are so little? I track on fitday.com com as MFP seems to be geared to the US food market and I find fitday so much easier but damn,my 800 is finished long before the day. And please tell me,how are you ok on a Protein shake for dinner?(I often see people doing just that) I just cannot give up on the idea of eating food. Not rubbish but real food. How do you overcome the head that thinks about food?why is this so difficult for me? Please help!

So i ready for the weight loss
Bufflehead replied to hifigli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If by "this same issue" you mean unrealistic expectations about constant weight loss, yes, lots of people have it, just read the forums here. Okay, seriously, yes virtually everyone stalls for a few weeks starting somewhere between weeks 2 and 4. Just Google "weight loss surgery 3 week stall" or "vsg third week stall" or anything like that. You'll see. And random stalls will continue in your future no matter how well you follow your program. You can't let it freak you out. Stay off the scale if it is going to bother you. Something that will probably NOT continue in your future is losing 38 lbs in 2 weeks -- so don't freak out if that doesn't ever happen again! Good luck. -
Not losing weight in first weeks after surgery
simplyjustme posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery on 5/3/16 & sadly, I haven't been losing weight since my surgery. It will be week 3 come Tuesday 5/24. And I'm starting to think my surgery was a failure in some way. My stats: 5'3" 26yrs old Starting weight 225 Surgery weight 208 5/4 Day after surgery 200 (I lost 8 pounds overnight) Current weight 198 From 5/4 till now (5/19) I've only lost 2 pounds(which happened after 10 days). I know everyone's body is different, but it seems impossible for me to not lose weight after surgery. I was expecting to lose weight each week, and then hit the 3 week stall like most people talk about. But instead I'm stalling the entire first 3 weeks. I'm eating about 300-450 calories a day. I'm just not hungry and I stop eating when I'm full. I'm having trouble getting in my 60-80g of Protein and I tend to get in 48-52 oz of fluids so I know I'm under. I'm trying to increase my protein & Fluid intake but it is difficult. Could this be why I'm not losing weight? Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you! I lost zero pounds week 3 and half of week 4!!!! Then the next 3 weeks I lost 20!! The 3 week stall is very real. You will get through it. Just keep getting your Protein , Vitamins and water!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Flame Free Friday Confessions!

I have a sip or three of liquids when I eat - Not always, but sometimes. I cannot stand being thirsty. I certainly don't chug. It's hard because since I eat so slowly, one meal blends into another. I also have a few sips of club soda mixed with fruit juice on occasion. It hasn't stalled me at all so far. I got the 3 week stall, but that is a Water retaining, glycogen issue. I have been losing about .7 pounds a day. -
I am feeling the same way!!! I lost 8lbs in the first 4 days after surgery… then in the last 11 days I’ve only lost 2lb… I was expecting it to drop more.. I spoke to my dietician and she said I’m doing really well with protein (60g) a day and at about 1800-2000ml of fluid a day. I’ve started walking and using my exercise bike more.. I really hope the stall doesn’t last long it’s disheartening as it makes you feel it was all a waste of time (and for me lots of money) 😞 You say 3 week stall, but I’ve stalled since week 1….

1 Year ago today I had my sleeve surgery. It was the best decision I've ever made for my health--diabetes in remission; no longer have high blood pressure--off all medications and down 119 lbs. I was hoping to hit my goal by today but i've been in a 3 week stall so I'm 3 lbs short of my goal but I'm thrilled with the results. Even if I don't go any lower--I'm happy with my size 12 self. Sorry for no pictures--I'm not very techy (need to work on that). Best of luck on your journey to those just starting out and continued success to the rest of us!! Lisa

Hi, Aliese - Two things: Search for "3 week stall" or even just "stall" and you will find literally hundreds of posts discussing the lack of weight loss somewhere around the 2nd-4th week. It happens a lot. It is just your body taking a rest and adjusting. If you took measurements before your surgery and take some now, you'll probably see that the inches are still coming off even if the scale isn't dropping. If you stick with the plan, the weight will start coming off again soon. With regard to the yogurt - I know you're not a fan, so it may not matter, but don't write it off just because it didn't do so well now. A lot of people find that certain foods don't sit so well right away, but if they come back to them a few weeks or months later, all of a sudden they're fine with that food now. I'm mostly telling you this so if it happens to you with a food you really WANT to introduce back into your diet, you won't get discouraged from it too quickly Good luck!

I am a lil behind on posting as I was not to encouraged as this week I gained weight. I have read plenty posts about the dreaded 3 week stall or weight gain but I was convinced I would beat it...Not... But all in all it has been a good week. I started eating soft foods and it was a welcome addition. Eggs with cheese was my first meal. I have made some othe recipes from Emily Bites andTheworldaccordingtoeggface. Most of them have turned out pretty good...I even managed to eat some shrimp and handled it okay considering I did not like shrimp pre-surgery...However at 21g of protein and only 1.5g fat and 4g carbs, it will become a frequent visitor on my menu. Still eating about 2-3 ounces of food before I get full and still adjusting to making sure I chew my food well to avoid that stuck feeling in my chest. My body still has not figured out how to resume regular bowel movements. I could probably lose a few pounds justing taking a good ole dump...lol TMI I know...My heartburn has also become more frequent over the past couple of weeks so I am resolving to taking priolsec or something of that nature with my daily vitamins. I started but stopped but realizing at least for now this is not possible. This week I hung out with my cousin who had lapband surgery in Jan 2012. She has had minimal success with it. I was so amazed at how much she could eat compared to the amount I was able to eat. Now mind you she had 7 months on me but I still thought our eating habits would be the same. I took a high protein, low carb potluck dish over it went over well but all the things she made were so high in carbs or fatty. She also tend to graze which all the reading I have done said this is a way you "eat around" your band or sleeve. I also notice that her pantry was riddled with things I would be afraid to bring in the house because all willpower would be gone...I do not say all this to judge but i do so it to say that even with the surgery we have to still exercise healthy eating habits. The surgery is only a tool and if we do not use the tool properly it is unable to perform as intended. I was careful not to judge her because I did not want to come off as a surgery eating expert after just 4 weeks of diet compliance. It was just an eye opener to be cognizant to not let my old eating habits that led to me being overweight erode the sleeve. On to the good news...I started out my journey a size 18..Well, this week I got into a size 13/14 jeans I had bought about two years ago...A phenomenal feeling that was...so despite having gained two pounds this week, I looked over it as I twirled around in the mirror 4 sizes smaller than I was a month ago...And so many folk are noticing the weight loss and that too is a really good feeling. Something that nags at me is that thought no less than 20 people have told me I lost weight, my ex-boyfriend has not acknowledged my weight loss...I know he is an ex and I should not care...Obviously there was something that put him in the ex category and it wasnt good so I should let go. Easier said then done but that is another story. I also measured today (09/16/12) and was pleasantly surprised at those numbers as well. I first measured on 08/23 so just under a full month Neck -1 in Thigh -3/4 in Hi Wasit (just below breast) -2 in Natural Waist 2 in Belly Button (Abs) -3 3/4 in Chest 1 1/2 in Hips 2 1/4 in Biceps 1 in Shoulder -2.5 in.....Total Inches Lost 16.75.. :D VSG 08/17/12 HW 232 08/13/12 SW 227 CW 210.4

Any Band to Sleeve Success Stories Out There?!?
Bndtoslv replied to lisaluvsgreys's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As of this morning I am down exactly 26lbs at 7 weeks. This includes a 2-3 week stall after losing 17lbs the first 3 weeks. It's not as fast as some but I'm pleased. I'm averaging 1 1/2 to 2lbs these past few weeks which should bring me to my goal well before my 1 year. Hopefully before my 42nd birthday in April but honestly no rush. I'm trying to enjoy this after stressing so much on my rapid way back up these past few years. -
3 Months out and stuck at 55lbs lost. Really upset that no matter what I seem at a stand still. Protein check, fluid check, working out check. What am I doing wrong and when if ever will this 3 week stall give up. It makes me so sad. Help please

Anyone else have Chaotic weight loss?
slvarltx posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was just going through my spreadsheet on weight lost and saw some really strange numbers...was sleeved in early May of this year. Weight lost per month: May: 27 lbs June: 2 lbs July: 14 lbs August: 18 lbs 1/2 of Sep: 10 lbs I know there was the dreaded 3 week stall in there, but the scale barely moved in June and now it seems like the further out I am the more and faster I am losing. I expected to lose a ton a first and then start slowing down significantly. Anyone else experiencing this sort of weight loss pattern? Seems strange, but definitely not complaining! -
Don't worry...3 weeks seems to be a magical stall number. I've seen a ton of posts on here about people that have the 3 week stall (myself included). It will pass, just give it time. I know the desire to want the weight gone is large, but it's healthier and more realistic for it to come off in smaller numbers, and stalls will continually happen. Stay focused on what you are doing and stay away from the scale during those times...take your measurements, a lot of times if the number on the scale is stuck, the numbers on your measurements will go down. Good luck :-)

My clinic's nutritionist was on board the low-cal train—and I actually stopped losing weight for a while because of it (not just the 3-week stall). It all came to a head (there's a post elsewhere on here about this) and I fired her. My new nutritionist has me on a balanced diet of proteins, carbs, and fats, based on my activity level (active). I intake 1000-1400 cals a day depending on actual activity level; most programs are far less. And I feel like all I do is eat and drink 🤣 I will say this: fats are essential for hormone regulation, ESPECIALLY for people for whom estrogen is the primary hormone.

I was hoping the 3 week stall might bypass me, but no such luck! My weight has been going up and down the same .4 lbs for several days. Its very frustrating because I am only 5 lbs from "onederland" and I want to get there so desperately. Any tips on how to break the stall? I am down 16 lbs since surgery and 22 since pre-op diet. Please help before I pull out my already thinning hair! DD

I agree with @@Kindle - stay off the scale! It's 3 weeks in. Relax a bit. I didn't notice a 3 week stall either. In the beginning I only weighed myself when I went to the doctor's. I had a 2 week f/u and didn't seeing him again until my 6 week f/u. I showed a loss both times. Instead I focused on eating/drinking enough protein, getting in enough water and walking/exercise. If you follow the program, the loss will happen. Just make sure to hit those protein and fluid levels.

I feel your frustration and worry. I just came off a 3 week stall. I think I was emotionally surprised I still have to work so hard at loosing weight. My mind knew the surgery was one tool, my emotions thought the first six months would have the weight slip off like water. I woke up and realized I still need to truly work it! The difference with WLS, when I try hard 2-4 lbs comes off versus 1/4 lb. I applaud your move to reconnect with the weight loss community. Maybe your dietitian can help? Does your weight loss center have a group to meet with? That helps me stay on track too.

I love a challenge! I am in! Will post CW and goal Friday. I am 3 weeks post op and in the inevitable 3 week stall right now.

I know it is a normal thing to hit a stall, but geeeze.....come on.....Please let me start loosing again!!! For the last 12 days I have only lost 3 pounds I started off like a rocket, then BAM....nadda. I am eating my Protein (or drinking) and drinking my Water, I just dont know what else to do to get the scales moving again. How long does the 3 week stall last? And when the scales do start moving again, are they much slower than in the beginning? How many pounds should you loose a month? Thanks for listening to me grumble about something that Im sure everyone has grumbled about from time to time!

3 Weeks Post-Op And A Stall Since Last Week
kayte819 replied to tamou37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A stall is sooo frustrating, isn't it?! I'm 7 wks out tomorrow & I had a 3 week stall that started around 3 wks. I was feeling so discouraged. I went to see my surgeon this last Monday & he seemed perplexed....asked about my eating, exercising, etc. Had zip for suggestions! So, I had been at 285 for weeks & then Tuesday I weighed myself & it was 281. Today it's 278!!!! I could do cartwheels I'm soooo happy!! Hang in there! Seems like the body makes up for lost time..... 7 lbs in 4 days is a good indication -
Surgery was 4/23/13. I've hit the 2-3 week stall also. I have lost 13 pounds, but the scale isn't budging. I eat just under under 600 calories daily, 60-80 grams of protein and about 45-50oz of fluid. Fluid intake has been the hardest for me since the start. I'm walking a 1/2 mile each day. We just have to trust it will come off if we follow the plan.

@@reece1239 they happen...I am currently on a 3 week stall...Christmas filled carb holiday didn't help. back on the wagon now :]
