    Frustrated by progress

It’s normal. There a lots of threads on here about stalls. Honestly your weight loss has been GREAT so far! Search 3 week stall in the search feature and you’ll see at least 50 topics on it The body needs a reset period. I’ve heard others mention that while the numbers stay the same, often times their inches are changing!
  2. I had a 3 week stall after initially losing 43 pounds after the first month. Even now I have only lost 66 pounds and am losing very slow. So, I think it is totally normal to stall and then lose slow. Good luck!

    Hungry

Head hunger is very common at this stage. Just keep drinking your Water and Protein shakes. Once you start eating real food it will go away. Also, the 3 week stall is even more common. Nothing at all to worry about. Read the link in my sig. It will explain why and when it will end. Just be patient and hang in there.
  4. Firm believer in early on sticking to your plan and ride it out. You are spot on with what happened with the 3 week stall. Stick to what youre doing. As you get farther along you will have to switch things up but not now. Follow your doctors plan.
  5. Did some research and now understand the physiology of "3 week stall." Most of us were on liver shrink diets two weeks before surgery. Our livers were depleted of glycogen stores and excess omentum fat. So my liver is rebuilding liver back to normal functioning size. So I need to get back on my pureed diet with more calories to finish up this process and start losing weight again. Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Im Not Special.....

I hit the dreaded 3 week stall, which has carried on into weeks 4 and 5. I was hoping I would be special and skip right over the 3 weeks stall. No such luck. I lost 17 pounds in the first 17 days. I've lost 5 pounds over the next 18 days. No complaints. I know this will pass. I'm really just taking a moment to whine. I really wanted to be special!!

I just broke a 3 week stall yesterday. I know it gets frustrating but keep doing what you are doing.

    Not losing anything? ?

I have been gaining also! I have gained 3kg since last week and I dunno why as I am not going over 1,000kcals a day sometimes no where near but someone has said bout carbs to cut them back out and see what happens I hear you, it sucks so bad to see a gain! but if you search 3 week stall from this site, there is so much advice already on here about it and after 4 days of moping, i feel so much better! the experts know what they are talking about! we'll see the scale moving soon just keep at it

    Alcohol

Talked to my doc today cause I had for turn in food journals for other reasons. My 3 week stall lasted for 4 weeks (and begun a week early), then 10lbs came off over 3 weeks and I'm stalled again... Anyway, I asked that since I'm 2 months out and on a regular food diet (yay! No more purréd or soft!)... About the diet, if I'd be able to have even half a glass of wine with friends or anything. He reiterated the very hard NO, and insisted I attend an AA meeting since it's the 2nd or 3rd time I've asked since pre-op. No I'm not an addict, and it's not that big of a deal anymore I guess. It's not that I'm thirsty for a drink necessarily, but knowing I can't have something ever again is messing with my head. (Yet I was fine giving up ice cream, sweets, and 99% of fast food) maybe I do need that AA meeting... Even though I'd drink maybe 3 times a year. Edit: reading this back, damn I'm tired and ADD is running high. Don't care enough to fix the post though. Sent from my iPhone

    Not losing anything? ?

Thanks everyone for the informative posts. I was sleeved on March 4, 2015 and hit the 3 Week Stall and have stayed at the same weight for the past 2 weeks. While I've been getting in the 60g of Protein, I need to increase the water; I'm barely hitting 60 oz daily. I've got a number of things that can be tweaked to make it better. The good news is that what the scales aren't saying, the measurement tape is. So, I'm losing crazy inches, which is good, but I definitely want to improve the eating to balance this. I appreciate the helpful hints from the veterans who've been doing this for some time. I will take your lead and expect to do better, feel better, and see better. Huge thanks!!!!!
  11. Woo-Hoo! = FINALLY HIT 199 today! After a frustrating 3 week stall with not even a pound lost ~ I decided to do Protein whey shakes for 4 days & that seemed to help me lose the 6 pounds to get me under 200. Hopefully this will be my jumpstart to continuing weight loss!

Three weeks out and not losing weight!

Dont worry. You will lose. There will be a lot of times when you dont lose for a couple weeks or a month or whatever. Just keep doing what you are suppossed to. Keep a good mental outlook and trust in the positive changes you are making. I know its hard, sometimes I feel like its been forever since I lost a lb and then I look at my calendar and its been 4 or 5 days when I could have sworn it was weeks! Plus the 3 week stall is the most common one.
  13. Was sleeved 10/23 and lost 29 lbs during the first 2 weeks. Started pureed right after my 2 week mark. I Weighed myself this morning and was only down 2 lbs this week. What the heck? Has to be some sort of stall because I weigh 379 and would think I would lose more than that!
  14. I hit the 3 week stall at about two weeks out. .. I figure with pre op that's 3weeks. It lasted about a week and a half where I eent up and down about a pound. Then it just started falling off again. The body just needs to catch up. Stay on track, your doing great!
  15. Hi! I had surgery on March 10th 2021. From 3 week Pre-op until now, I have lost a total of 19 pounds (nearing 6 weeks total time). I have not lost any weight in the last 10 days. I’ve spent a good period of time assuring myself by reading the great feedback on others posts about similar questions but, most suggest the 3 week stall and I have heard that the stall can happen 2-4 weeks post surgery. Has anyone ever heard of a stall basically right out of the gate? I am tracking - I am at 600 calories/day and 60g of protein. My Pre-Op Diet Start Weight was 257 and I am currently 238. Thanks in advance for the advice and feedback, a little challenging to not be discouraged!

    6 months post op vsg

Thank you fluffychix! I *try* to keep my calories closer to the 800 range but FAIL. I don’t know why I’m so hungry but I’ll definitely mention this at my appointment next week! I’ve debated going Keto on and off for a while now and I’m also going to mention that next week at my appointment before diving in. I tried Keto years ago and found it wasn’t maintainable in the long term for me. But.. I’m willing to give it another go. I’m just afraid to gain if I decide Keto still isn’t for me. 😒🙄🤷🏼‍♀️😬😂 I don’t consume liquid calories (minus protein shakes here and there) but I do drink Powerade zero and Gatorade zero along with my water. I didn’t know there was a 6 month stall!! 😭 lol gracious! I’ve stalled on and off so much already! This process is definitely a mental game! My first stall (3 week stall) lasted about 45 days and my second stall lasted about 35 days 😳. Thanks for your response and input!!
  17. @@IndieDivaIN if you search for "3 week stall" you will come across lots of posts from so many that stalled at the same time. It's typical so don't worry, this isn't the end of the road for you.

Congrats! I also am officially out of a 3 week stall as of today also! Doesn't it feel great? I am also on my fitness pal. I'll add you.

    Weight going up

@Lynda486 I was just about to start a thread called 3 week stall and weight gain until I saw this thread.. I am experiencing the same. I have not lost for about a week in fact I've gained 2 lbs. I JUST got the surgery Oct 1. I haven't even logged the two lb weight gain because I want to deny it. It happened around day 21 of the surgey. I've added soft foods in and I think that's why. I'm hitting my protein and fluid goals I just happen to be eating more real food. I never go past 350 calories a day and I get two 30 minutes walks in a day. I don't understand and I weigh several times a day and at the grocery store. I'm reading the responses and they give me some comfort but this is disheartening to have gone through this and now I've gained??? I did better pre-op...OMG..wondering what I did to myself and regretting this surgery. I'm not constipated at all everything is working on that front. Everyone says you lose the most the 1st six months of surgery and now I've stopped.

    My first 3 weeks

Jools64 give yourself time. I'm still a relative newbie myself at 8 weeks and the energy does come back. I'm still on the learning curve with food and slowly learning what I can and can't eat. So I agree it is a major change; I would have never imagined that I would be the person that would have to remind herself to eat. I had the 3 week stall, I also put on about 4 pounds during that time (I was ready to throw my scale out the window), but it's now it steadily coming off. You may want to try increasing your Water intake, if you can. As a lack of liquid may contribute to stalls, but regardless I'm sure those pounds will start dropping again!

    3 week plateau?

Don't beat yourself up over it. The "3 week stall" (and other plateaus) are very common. You could probably find hundreds of posts on this website alone on this subject.

    I am PISSED!

Type "3 week stall" in this site's search box (or "Google" it). You are far from unique, it is very common. Don't beat yourself up over it. Keep yourself well hydrated and make sure you eat enough Protein.

    I am PISSED!

A Protein shake with a banana half at 3 weeks would have been a bit heavy and very sugar rich for me at 3 weeks. My stomach tolerated everything. Some people become lactose intolerant after surgery for a while. Maybe try Nectars which is lactose free and mixes with Water. You could also water it down more than they recommend to start. Make sure you are eating/drinking really slowly. It should take you 15-30 minutes. Take a sip, go do something, come back, take another sip. I would take a few laps around the house or yard between sips to get in my exercise too. Leaving the food between bites/sips means I can't mindless eat. Fish is normally pretty high in protein. I pureed chicken salad, tuna salad and egg salad with an immersion blender. I used Hellman's light mayo, some mustard in the egg salad. You could mix the chicken or tuna salad with a little lite mayo and/or yogurt. Maybe add a tiny bit of Protein powder to it. I know some people eat with a baby spoon early on to help avoid the habit of too big of a bite at a time. Yes, the 3 week stall is normal.

    STUCK

Ok everyone. I had about a 3 week stall. Then, all of a sudden-BOOM. I lost 14lbs. Couldn't believe it. So, don't give up and don't get discouraged. I can now eat about 3/4 cup of food 6 weeks out. My vice is Jamba juice smoothies. I drink about 3 oz twice a week. I feel like it's bad because it tastes so good.

    So it's effing four months....

So today it's been 4 months since my surgery. I had calculated through a couple of formulas that I would be down exactly 50 pounds by 3/20. (I'm analytical like that) I missed it by 2 pounds..damn. First I had about a 3 week stall, since then I've lost exactly 1 pound a week. For the last 30 day's I've lost exactly 5 lbs. That's pretty depressing. I could have done that or better with out the sleeve. I've eaten right getting plenty of protein, logged on MFP, done the cardio, kept the carbs low, drank the water till I am about to float away. Still only 1 lousy pound a week. I only have a couple of months left before the weight loss starts to get tougher. I wanted to be at goal weight by August (my 55 birthday), because i am going hiking in Alaska and do not want to be a fat ass doing that. Now, don't know if I can get the 53 pounds off by then. Very discouraged about that. So today, I had to go buy some clothes because a while back I ditched all my "skinnier" clothes thinking that I would never get under 260 pounds. Since surgery, I've basically worn track pants that have a drawstring. I have a job opportunity and needed a pair of slacks and dress shirt. For the inital interview, I wore a suit that was at least 15 years old, that somehow didn't get donated to the smiling g. At the store, I picked out a pair of pants that I thought should fit and tried them on. The were too snug , so I had to get a size that I've worn for a long time. I was soooooo bummed. Granted it is 3 sizes smaller than I was at surgery, but I really was expecting to be down one more size. So I am beginning to waver about the sleeve. I read about all these people that have lost 60-70-80 pounds at 4 months. It is depressing. I am glad for them, but for the life of me I can't figure out what I am missing. Not a great way to celebrate an anniversary.
