    Activia yogurt

Does anyone know if it's ok to to eat any type of Activia yogurt once your banded? I used to eat it all the time pre-op. I eat regular low fat yogurt and greek yogurt almost daily for protein.
  2. Chicken salad, tuna salad, salmon (they have patties at trader joes or Costco and frozen filets by Gordon's are yummy)- broil them with lemon pepper, teriyaki sauce, herb butter etc and you can have one meat a million ways, chili with cheese and Greek yogurt (instead of sour cream), Atkins meals, lunch meat and cheese in 1/4 of a pita, hummus, sautéed chicken, baked chicken, I do a lot of Mexican shredded chicken and then I can make a taco, or enchilada out of it or make a quesadilla out of a flat out wrap.

    Hunger

I was sleeved on 3/20. I have lost 34 pounds total. I now eat real food. I always take Protein in first. I fill up very quick. I do eat chobani yogurt and oatmeal, but I and a extra 15 grams of protein powder to it (this ups my yogurt to 31 grams of protein). My oatmeal I add 15 grams of protein. Just stay to a plan that works best for you, never attempt to over eat.

    How to stop weight lost.

thank you! I'm working with both a nutritionist and a psychologist, today was good day I try to eat more, even had pasta, Greek yogurt, and finally some shaved meet with olive oil and lemon. I was able to keep it down. I need to let myself gain some weight and be ok with it. Because I had surgery to have a healthy life with my kids and husband.
  5. I stopped eating meat after my lap band surgery because meat would always get stuck and make me feel sick. Every morning I have a Fiber one english muffin with Peanut Butter. I find the peanut butter really "sticks to your ribs" and keeps me full all morning. For lunch I might have so Kashi Cereal mixed with a non-fat yogurt (there's Protein in both the Kashi cereal and the yogurt). And for dinner I will make a salad with some vinegar/low-cal dressing with some cottage cheese on top. Other vegetarian things that keep me full: A toasted pita with hummus Bananas, apples, pears and other high-fiber fruits Granola bars oatmeal Popcorn (I've never had a stuck issue with popcorn, although I know a lot of bandsters have) Whole grain Pasta with marinara sauce Steamed veggies Brown Rice I would say if you are a big bread person, definitely convert to whole grains. If the first ingredient on the label reads "whole" - like "whole wheat flour" - then its a whole grain. It makes a world of difference in keeping you fuller for longer.

    Newly banded side effects?

Yes, I had the same problem. Liquid yogurt helped for me at least!

    Food for stage 3 ideas

Is your stage 3 pureed or soft foods? I actually bought a baby food maker. It was a life saver. But you don't need one, a blender works just fine! If it's pureed and you're craving something savory, you can put boiled or baked chicken in the blender, then mix it into 1/3 cup of the 98% fat-free cream of chicken. Two ounces of well-drained tuna with 2 tbsps of light mayo tastes really good, just be sure to over mix it so all the little chunks work themselves out. You can try canned chili and blend it even more than it already is. Canned beans can be mashed up and seasoned any way you like if you need to add fiber to your diet. For sweet foods, there's of course SF pudding, SF rice pudding, SF tapioca, low cal/low carb yogurt (Greek is the healthiest), and oatmeal sweetened with Stevia and cinnamon. I would make the oatmeal with water then add 3 tbsps of caramel-flavored whey protein shake (Premier Protein brand taste the best to me) that way, I was getting fiber and protein to make up for the high carb count. If your stage 3 is soft foods, you can try salmon or baked fish. For me the difference between pureed and soft foods was minimal because of what I liked to eat. Tuna is a staple for me. Except now I can eat it with some Quest cheddar crackers.

  10. ParrotHeadCathy ~ Thanks for your reply; I don't get many on here... I guess It's all my fault; I am just not being as diligent as I should and it's frustrating.. I was just hoping this tool would give my discipline a kick in the A**... Which if I get to a point with the ccS it will... I just have NO willpower.. As far as your questions: Have you ever felt any restriction? I have to a point. Do you eat as prescribed, that is 3 oz of Protein, steamed or raw vegetable and then and only then, if still hungry WHOLE GRAIN carbs? I wasn't given this information.. We have a nutritionalist for the beginning and were told to keep it below 1,000 calories on days I don't go to gym and 1,200 on days that I do. Do you snack? When stressed... On what? Nuts, yogurt, jell-o... but I do have bad habits (chips ~ not much though)... Do you have problems swallowing any foods? not really; starting to see problems with breads, but I am not really eating them anyhow.
  11. I was just wondering how long we have to avoid drinking out of straws? Not a huge issue, but it would make it easier to drink protein shakes if I could use a straw ???? I am almost 3 weeks out from surgery. My diet is mostly protein shakes, Greek yogurts, and clear broth with added unflavored protein at this point.

    Food

Yes and Yes!! With grilled you chicken you may need some sort of sauce with it in case it is a bit overcooked (it would be dry and might be uncomfortable in your sleeve). I love greek yogurt. My FAVORITE is the Fage 2%. They also make a 0% which has no fat and is lower in calories (but isn't as creamy IMO). If you are watching your carbs then get the plain (i substitute this for sour cream in recipes). Then flavor it yourself with sugar free syrups or crytal light packets. My favorite is to add espresso powder and half a packet of splenda. The variety is limitless really. Yogurt sits very, very well for me. So this is my go to on "tight sleeve" days as well.

How long is the liquid diet?

My surgeon gave me one of the most lenient post-op regimes that I have read about in this forum and even his rules do not allow for fish after only 2 weeks. From the "consider my surgeon dead" comment, I can only assume that you've become disillusioned with your surgeon for whatever reason. I suspect it might be simply that you're hungry and spitting the dummy a little, as we Aussies say, but if you've seriously given up on your relationship with your surgeon already, let me urge you to find another and to FOLLOW HIS/HER ADVICE. In the mean time, this was my regime which, as I said, it about as quick progress through the stages as any doctor will recommend: First 4-7 days: Clear liquids only - teas, juices, consomme Soups, stock, jellies. Next 7-14 days: Thick liquids only - all above plus creamed soups (not chunky), yogurt, very watery porridge. At 3-4 weeks: Mushies - all of above plus soft scrambled eggs, chunky soups, porridge, mashed vegetables, very soft cooked fish At 4-5 weeks: Soft foods - all of above plus mashed tuna, casseroles, minced meat dishes (e.g. bolognaise), cooked veges. At 5-6 weeks: Normal foods. First fill for me was at 4 weeks and that's also very early compared to most others. Don't let frustration due to hunger cause you to damage your body and your band. There is a reason why the doctors don't want you on solid foods too early - it is to give the scar tissue around your band to form properly (without your stomach churning from digesting solid foods), seating the band properly in place. This prevents slippage later. Even though you might not feel the repercussions from eating too early now, it is a leading cause of slippage and you could well have problems in about a year's time if you stray from the path now.

    Pre-workout Supplement

I don't do supplements, but I do make sure to have Protein at least 30 minutes before working out and immediately after. I also try to have the bulk of my carbs then as well. However I only do complex carbs. My typical workout routine is a protein shake with 1 scoop of Protein powder, ¼ - ½ cup of Fage 0% greek yogurt and whatever mixins I feel like. Sometimes that a tablespoon of almond butter, sometimes a ¼ cup of fruit like pineapples, strawberries or peaches, or a ½ and orange. Depending on my mood I may add some flax powder for added Fiber, or a handful of raw spinach or ¼ cup if frozen. I add enough Water to mix and toss the whole thing in the nutrabullet. Often I end up drinking half before I workout and the other half post workout. My morning workout is and hour of aquafit and 30 minutes run/walking in the pool. This also counts as my Breakfast. After this I drink water until it's time for lunch. I get in 30 - 38 gms of protein this way.

Glad to hear you reread your info. We need to stay away from sugars! Yogurt id good for you but stick to greeo yogurts. High in protein which will help to keep u feeling fuller. Yoplait greeo 100's or the light and fit greek is good too. Just watch which you choose for sugar content. Also the plain nonfat greek is good too if you like it. Good to substitute for sour cream or add fressh fruit for the natural sugar sweetener. I also ise it when making my own protein shakes. I do half cup frozen berries, about 3 oz of skim milk, half cup of greek nonfat plain yogurt and a scoop of vanilla or plain whey protein isolate and half a banana. Its good for 2 servings and about 300-350 in cal depending on ur fruit and protein u use. Just stick with foods high in.protein amd low in fat and the less sugar the better. Try to stay away from premade or boxed anything. The more natural the better and the lbs will start to melt away. Dont forget to exercise religuosly too. I am just 7 months and am now down 117lbs so it works. Good luck to you and congrats on your journey.
  16. Make sure you are nor drinking 30min, before and after you have your shakes...I was told if we drink after, especially you will push the Protein drinks through faster and we won't absorb it. Thats what happens to me,I felt hunger pang and realized I was drink right after eating by 10 min.Now I am by the book doing much better..I look forward to to Jello and pops to curb I. Between and broth oh YUMMYY LOL:( On Wed, I go to one soft meal at dinner !!! Yeah sometimes I forget I need more Water intake I need to add crystal light to the water so much water has me a bit tired of it. Are you allowed to eat puree foods yet or yogurt? What shakes do you buy for protein ? Well tomorrow I have to see my nutritionist I'm hoping I can eat something else other then protein shakes and soups I actually tried twice the Greek yogurt but omg i felt it was so heavy for me does that happen to you ?and I tried lentil soup being that it's so good for Iron and that was ok Have you eaten anything outside of what your supposed to eat ?

    No Appetite

That's somewhat normal this early on. Your stomach is still swollen and healing and not functioning as normally as it would when fully healed. I had no desire at all to eat anything the first two weeks after being sleeved but I knew I had to. it's also normal for your tastes to change. There's no telling what you may or may not like now. You'll just have to experiment and find something that you like. I wasn't a fan of the creamed soups when I was in my full liquid stage so I relied on alot of sugar free jello, pudding, and yogurt.

    Protein

I do at least one protein shake a day. 1 cp of soy milk, 5 tblsp of low-fat cottage cheese, 5 tblsp 0 fat Greek Yogurt, 1 scoop of protien powder. Adds up to approx 45 grams of protien. About 350 calories.

    Keeping it simple

Since I have been back on solid foods I have been keeping my meals very simple. Mainly because I have not wanted anything else. i see alot of people talking about complicated recipes (which is fine), but I really dont care much bout what I am eating. An average day for me consists of 2 eggs for Breakfast, usually fried(using pam spray) lunch 4ish ozs of turkey, chicken, tuna, and for dinner somewhat the same as lunch with maybe a small portion of veggies. In between I may have a greek yogurt, Protein shake or some beef Jerky. I actually love that it is this simple and I hope I can keep on the same track indefinitely. Anyone else having the same experience??
  21. Whew, the first four weeks are now behind me! I've been doing quite a bit of reflecting on my experience so far, and here are some of my thoughts: 1. I've lost 27 pounds! I'm so excited by the numbers on the scale. Still wearing the same clothes though. I have a box in my bedroom already labeled "too big", and I can't wait to start filling it with clothes to give away! 2. The first few days sucked way more than I expected (too much vomit!), but after that it's actually been a pretty easy recovery. I'm meeting and often exceeding my Fluid and Protein goals. 3. I'm surprised that I don't miss junk food. I don't mind when my kids eat ice cream in front of me, or when we order a pizza. I'm mostly content with my tuna, or scrambled egg, or hummus, or cheese. However, I am starting to tire of the soft foods I've been eating and am looking forward to getting the docs okay to start trying a greater variety of foods. 4. I really want to take a bubble bath. I'm thinking I probably could at this point, but I'm such a stickler for the rules that I'm not going to do it until doc says ok. Since I was self pay, I really want to avoid any possible complications that will cost even more money! 5. Before surgery, I didn't really want to tell anyone. Now I'm so excited about my new, healthier lifestyle, that I want to shout it from the rooftops to anyone who will listen. I have not had any negative reactions from the people I've told. If they had negative opinions about it, they've kept it to themselves, so that's good. 6. I think I may be lactose intolerant now. Ive switched to soy milk, but yogurt and cheese don't seem to bother me. Not sure if things will stay this way, or if it's just part of my healing process and it will go away with time. 7. I've started a small garden, I've been walking every day, and I have TWO vacations planned in the next 4 months - Mexico with the kids, and New England fall colors with the husband. Life feels great right now and I haven't regretted the surgery once! Thanks for reading. This site has been very helpful for me so far, and I plan to stay connected here as part of my commitment to a new lifestyle. Christi Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. Not unusual for fills to have a delayed effect. Back down to liquids for tonight, and consider drinking warm liquids too (herbal tea is good, or even warm Water with lemon). Tomorrow, you can do a Protein shake again for breakfast if you like.. or you can try something soft, like yogurt or cottage cheese. Or you can wait for lunch to try soft foods. Whichever you choose, try drinking something warm (coffee, tea, etc.) a little bit before you eat. Warmth can loosen the band just enough to let you eat. If this doesn't work and you continue to have issues with food coming back, call your doctor. In fact, you may want to call them when they open anyway and see what they advise. I've been slightly too tight before and the warm liquids usually does the trick for me. But if your fill is uber tight, you'll need to go in for a tiny unfill. They usually just pull a fraction of a cc back out and it fixes the problem. Sorry you're having issues. Hope you feel better soon.
  23. Hello, I just wanted to share my story. I was on a fb group through the weight center that did my surgery on 12/5 but they didn't let me share my story. I went in for my sleeve surgery but shortly after while in recovery my BP dropped really low, I started sweating badly and my skin/eyes turned gray. They gave me a blood transfusion which brought my BP back up. I was brought in for an emergency surgery because I was bleeding out. They said leaked 3 liters of blood and had multiple large dark blood clots in my stomach. I was bleeding and oozing through the staples so they double stitched me and cauterized some of the stomach. Since the 2 surgeries I have had very high pulse, which they call Tachycardia. Also, I am anemic. I also get this uncontrolled diaphram spasm where it makes me gasp for air. The 1st week it hurt to swallow anything, even a sip of water. I started to get pain up my throat so they gave me heartburn meds which helped that matter. I went home after spending a few nights at the hospital but quickly after I was home I went back into the ER for low BP and dehydration. I am home again now, monitoring my BP. I am taking fluids ok and getting my proteins in. I still have to drink slow but I am able to. You can feel/hear every sip go down and every pill go down. I still get times where there is pressure from air stuck under the rib cage and the pain goes up to my shoulder. They just ok'd me to start cream soups, yogurt and cottage cheese 2 days ago. I get full really fast. I just wanted you to know that the 1% they warn you about can happen. It happened to me and I cry myself to sleep about the events that happened every time I close my eyes. It was very scary to go through. They said it will take about 6 weeks for my body to rebuild its own blood back up. Your body rejects some of the transfusion since it isn't your blood. Until then I get weak, dizzy and lightheaded every time I get up to walk around and my pulse goes really high and my heart beats out of my chest. I have a couple of mins to walk or shower and then I need to lay back down to catch my bearings. I am starting to get color back in my lips on occasion. The most important thing is I keep fighting to get up every day, walk a little and drink my fluids in order to get better. They tell you that you need support at home and I live alone so I was worried. They are right, you can't do this alone. After the ER trip it helped to have my parents coming in to remind me to keep drinking and to do things around the house that I couldn't. Thank you for listening. 10 days post op

I'm 11 days out and I tried some cottage cheese today and it went down great. My tomato soup and Greek yogurt have been getting me through, but I too cannot wait to start eating "real food". I need to get back on my shakes, but drinking them now makes me wanna hurl. They are too sweet to me. I want to pick up some Premier Protein shakes and try those, as I have no urge to make my own from this giant jug of powder I bought pre-op. I cannot wait for pursed! ~*~Heather~*~
