First Post Op Post! Sleeved On 11-12-13
hopeliveshere posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello friends! Today is my first day back to work and my first POST op post! Tomorrow i am 3 weeks out. My surgery went very well, my surgeon said that my liver had shrunk down nicely The walked me into the OR and when i got on the table i suddenly began to cry out of fear. The next thing i remember is waking up in recovery. all in all i would say my recovery is going really well. I had horrible, terrible despicable gas pains for the first 2 weeks, the pains went all the way up to my shoulder and walking and gas x did not help not one bit. other than that i was only in the hospital overnight. I didnt have too much other pain, just more like discomfort and soreness. as of today i am down 28lbs so i am 229 now. I lost 15 on the preop and 13 since the surgery. i was a little disappointed with that, but i also did just get a visit from aunt flo yesterday (TMI) so im hoping thats the issue and that i havent stalled already. -
Probiotics For Constipation?
Chelenka replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take a probiotic capsule every day. I think it helps. Lots of water, benefiber, a strong cup of coffee, chia seeds in your protein shake or yogurt, these have all helped. If all else fails a suppository ( sorry if that's TMI). -

December Surgeries!?!?!?
Birthsjourney replied to preopmano's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My bypass was done 11 days ago! The 6 month insurance hoops seemed forever to me also! Now that I am past it all ( doing amazing well at 64 years old) I am so glad that I did have all the nut meetings , & classes, test and Dr appts.. The knowledge gained is invaluable at these stage... And knowledge is powerful! My insulin has gone from 350 units down to 20.. Severe GERD resolved and off so many meds ( BP normal, heart rate normal). First week on only liquids was a bummer.. 6 days no BM THEN 5 days off endless runs (tmi) but knowing its normal was good! I had triple bypass.. Diabetes type 1 . Gerd so severe it was damaging my lungs! Wonder why I waited now! Also had a liver biopsy due to fatty tissue and a big belly hernia repaired then.. Could of looped a bowel if not repaired... You guys will be so happy you did this! I had doubts daily and even a few days after but WOW .. What a difference a week makes. Take a heating pad to hospital.. Really helped with carbon dioxide discomfort those first days.. ( and walk walk then walk some more) .. Best of luck to you all.. Be pumped up! Good positive attitude is important ! -
Hey friends... Sorry it took so long for a reply but I've felt like I've been hit by a semi. There were complications with my surgery. They weren't able to intubate me or use their balloon down my throat to create the pouch. They said that 2 nurse anesthetist and an anesthesiologist both tried and no one was able. They had to to do an internal approach to create the pouch and also fixed a hiatal hernia. I'm just in so much pain. I was able to pass gas. Lol. Still no BM. TMI. I had a moment yesterday. I was asking myself, "What did I just do". I was really regretting it. I'm sure it will pass.

April 2013 Post-Op Group
deaddemmama replied to Wendilou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made the mistake if eating while I carved....didn't chew well enough, and was sick to my stomach at dinner. Refunded later ( sorry, tmi). Had a miniscule bite if apple crumb pie later...new recipe, hadn't tried it. I was shocked how quickly it triggered cravings. No more for me! -
Well I made it!! I got to go home on full liquids but so far nothing at all is appealing. And food commercials turn my stomach. The gas is by far the worst part!! It's a real struggle to make myself sip because the tiniest little bit makes me feel overfilled and uncomfortable. I've had a few bouts of nausea and some spasms but thankfully no vomiting. After sleeping with heating pad on my back then making multiple laps in my house, I finally got rewarded with my first real fart and OMG it was amazing!! Lol. Sorry if TMI but I know those of u who have been tree totally get it. I've yet to need any pain meds, as the only discomfort is gas and moving around helps. At this point I'm just moving and sipping and hoping this unpleasant fullness goes away soon. My stats: HW 299; START OF 2WK PREOP 286; SURGERY WT 272; FIRST POST-OP DAY 272 Anyway, thanks for the prayers and well wishes!!

Thanks y'all. The bike is a Specialized Global Work 2 women's I believe. It is a riding-around bike, not a road bike or mountain bike. I think that is what makes it a "hybrid." The seat definitely feels different than previous ones I have had which either smashed the lady bits or seemed to get right up between the butt cheeks and make a lot of skin irritation and bruising (tmi, yuck, and unpleasant). I have not ridden since Sunday (4 days) and there is still a bit of soreness. It. Iftt have bruised, didn't look. But different from the past. I have thought of spinning, but those gym cycles usually don't adjust short enough for my legs. I am on,y 4'11" and have unusually short legs and a long torso. My gym has the classes so maybe I will see if the bikes go small enough.

Ever since Ive been sleeved which is just shy of a year now Ive had issues with being constipated. Ive pretty much had to take a stool softener every day for the past year just to get stuff moving along. But I FINALLY found something that works for me and works darn good I might add. I bought a dehydrator! chips, sweet potato chips and kale chips. Im telling what, the apple chips are so friggin delicious (I spray the lightly with coconut oil that I got at Whole Foods and then toss them every so lightly in a cinnamon/sugar mix, mostly cinnamon and super light on the sugar). We love them so much that we have to keep a stash on hand at all times because my hubby is a sugar addict and I crave crunchy things. Its so easy to get 1 or 2 apples in me a day and by the next day Im walking on sunshine cause bathroom time is productive, successful and downright action packed lol. So ever since Ive been dehydrating fruits and kale chips, no more stool softeners. Ive not been this regular since before surgery. I feel like a friggin genius for finally figuring this out lol. It even works better then my nutriblasts in the morning.

Cramps And After Surgery Gas Pains!
_imgood_ posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ladies.....has anyone had to deal with AFTER SURGERY gas pains, followed by their mental cycle? I will have to because I was not able to choose my surgery date. Was anyone able to choose their date because of this reason? Dealing with recover is a task within itself, however; adding cramps on top of that will not make my recovery any easier. Sorry gents.....TMI!!!!!! -
So What Exactly Is "normal Eating?"
LouiseC replied to NMJG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am not quite at goal, my own goal that is (I passed the surgeons goal a while ago) but I am just 3 kilos away and pretty much consider myself in maintenance mode for the most part. I am waiting until the two year point to have plastics for the excess skin and will also likely get my boobs somewhere back up near my chest at the same time :-D sorry for the TMI but they are shockers these days! I estimate about half the weight I want still to lose is in skin and I am really comfortable with carrying these three kilos for a few more months if need be. So, what was I saying? Lol. Treats. I have them, usually a couple of times a week. When I do it is likely to be a sweet and I have a new found love of ice cream. I can easily eat half a cup and then I am happy. It is strawberry season here so lately it has been strawberries, though only about three or four, chopped up with half a cup of real vanilla. I buy good quality ice cream. I buy good quality food period. If there is an occasion at work then I will have a little bit of cake or cookie or whatever is on offer. Again, it is a single serve and I factor in the calories and know I need to burn them. I rarely eat chips, if I want the savoury Snacks I will go for nuts these days or spicy roasted chick peas. I also enjoy tamari roasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds. I drink wine frequently. I don't consider it a treat but rather part of a 'normal' diet. We often have a glass with dinner and I just factor it in. Occasionally I will have more, drinks with friends or family occasions. Again, I factor it in and work it off. I watch those I consider 'normal' healthy eaters very closely. I am consciously changing my behaviours, habits, and ultimately my relationship with food. I do not even for a moment consider the notion of eating anything I want to be 'normal'. This isn't normal. And it isn't healthy. It may be common, it may even be the usual for many. But it isn't normal to me not by a long shot. -
November buddies where are you?
Jen GA Peach replied to soonerorlater's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
yes it does help, but I can only walk so much before I'm beat. I wish it would just pass already. Can you take Extra Strength Maalox? They gave me about 2 oz. in the hospital the day I had gas that kept me hospitalized an extra 1 1/2 days.I was in so much pain 2 nights ago, I drank tea I walked, I took gas X, nothing helped. I put a pillow on my bloated belly and laid face down, only relief I had for hours. I slept like that, woke up and pain was gone. Passed some gas yesterday, but wasn't able to GO until tonight. Whew! So, I week post op and gas pain and bloating gone. Sorry, TMI I know, but wanted to give an end story to anyone struggling with gas pains. -
August Surgery List complete
attractpositive replied to Tina727's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, I'm mostly a lurker... Lol! But my surgery was in Aug. 8th. My HW was 223 lbs, SW was 210 lbs and today I am 178 lbs. so that's 45 lbs. it's not as much as most of you, but I knew going in that I would lose weight at a slower pace because I started at a 42 BMI. Regardless, I am thrilled that I've lost this much already. I'm having the normal stalls... But I'm still averaging about 2 1/2 lbs per week when I add it all together. I think that's a healthy weight to lose. :-) I struggle with getting in enough protein. I barely get in about 60g a day. So I know I need to increase that and drink more fluids. I don't think I've experienced dumping yet... At least not on as serious of a level as some of you. I have had diarrhea, biut I had that issue a lot before surgery so it's not really unusual for me. The one thing that IS unusual and a good thing is that I have regular BMs (sorry tmi). That to me is a plus because before surgery I would go a week between them. So overall I think things are going pretty good for me. I see my dr tomorrow for a follow up. I think he'll test me for any vitamin deficiencies. Hopefully I am doing well with those, although I sure could use more energy. I'm still too tired to work out. But that could just be my own laziness. Haha! -
Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery
Madam Reverie replied to hayleylamas's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hehe. TMI! -
UK-RNY , Sorry to hear about this experience , I had RNY and I take it you had the sleeve so i am unsure if this applies? at six weeks i was told to measure everything because the nerves in the pouch were severed and you cannot judge the sensation of fullness properly. As to your lack of regularity I have been adding a Fiber additive ( sugar-free orange Metamucil) to my vanilla flavored Protein shakes since day one and it keeps me on schedule like the trains (TMI so sorry ) I also tried tried Chinese take away about 3 months out . I had General Taos Tofu 3 or 4 small chunks and i was happy as a clam . Next day tried the same amount for lunch and it stuck like a car in rush hour traffic .. It was horrible , since then i have been unable to work up the nerve to try any again. I hope this is not permanent , I love Chinese food. Have a great day , RJ

How Many Times Do You Go #2?
Bufflehead replied to luvzpitbullz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm allowed 60 grams of carbs per day, and I make use of them to eat stuff to keep me regular - I usually have beans and prunes every day, plus occasional servings of stuff like a quarter cup of frozen berries blended into my protein shake or some cruciferous veggies with dinner. Also have black coffee every day and a chewable probiotic. I don't take laxatives or stool softeners and I poop every day (no such thing as TMI here, right?). I think some of that is poop-promoting diet choices and some is just that I'm lucky enough to have a digestive system that has always, pre and post-sleeve, functioned like clockwork and never given me any troubles whatsoever. Oh and exercise is good for healthy bowel functioning too! Exercise every day and that will help for most folks. -
How Many Times Do You Go #2?
luvzpitbullz replied to luvzpitbullz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
did the miralax give you cramps and other issues. On the risk of being tmi, after I took the laxative, there were a couple of times I didn't make it to the potty in time. I soooo would not want that to happen now that I'm back at work! -
Well I went out again today. My husband rode his bike and stayed slow enough for me to keep up. Starting to figure out the gears. We stayed on the bike paths near our house and went 7 km in 30 minutes. It was fun and not too hard but I was sweating by the end. He showed me how I can add at least 20 km more round trip and stay on the bike path most of the way! My butt is sore right on the bones where the seat hits. It is literally two spots about an inch in diameter each that are sore. When I was a lot bigger, my whole butt crack area would get sore and bruised and raw (tmi) after a couple of rides. That's why I never kept it up. I think the soreness now is more normal and I will get used to it after a few rides. I don't know if I was too big before or the seat was wrong or the bike was wrong or a little bit of all of them. It is humiliating to take your bike to the shop and say your fat ass is in agony and please adjust the seat. It's amazing what I used to put up with because I was so ashamed about my size.

First Dumping
oldoneyoungagain replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just came home from work after two hours. Major dumping, used all my breaktime for the first half of the day within one hour after I got to work. Here is the kicker, my normal Breakfast, decaf coffee with Protein, so haven't a clue if I might be coming down with a bug (was exposed to the flu a week or so ago, but got a flu shot). I don't get shakey, or get the sweats, but major diarrhea (Sp) this morning and a rolling stomach. I'm use to dumping, as have had it with my diabetes for years, but since bypass I'm doing good if I go every other day, but I have discomfort with the colon now. Like it isn't use to the muscles pushing or straining. Since I am use to dumping, I'm somewhat glad when I have it. Constipation was never a problem with me, and that is how I feel now since I have to from 1-7 times a day to maybe once every two-three days. This might be TMI, but totally amazed how our body changes with the bypass. -
Ok, so I'm 6 weeks out and one or two things have made me feel a bit queasy such as milk, Cereal (even with almond & lactose-free milk). Eating too much is a learning curve too as that makes me feel horrible. But I hadn't felt dumping until tonight and yuk it was horrible. I went out for a Chinese with my family, I obviously ate heaps less than I would have done before the RNY but I did have those couple of extra mouthfuls after I knew I was full. Well, well, well ... queasy, shaky, heart racing, clammy and just plain blah! I guess I do 'dump' after all. No diarrhoea thank goodness but to be honest, my bowels don't move much anyway so I can't imagine anything less than a tummy bug would cause that with me (TMI, sorry) :-)

On another note - I think I know where my funk has come from and why it has been around so long. I am blaming hormones. As you all know, my lady hormones have put me into early menopause... well, since starting the 5:2 WOE I have seen more of my friend than I have in the last 3 years! This time she came with no warning - and without TMI she was heavy and I had cramping which I haven't had for a while! Not sure why this is happening, as I've said before, my doc told me that my ovaries have pretty much packed up! This has been going on for over 3 years - I think it probably started before my sleeve, but my weight was always a convenient excuse for the medical world to blame any bodily inconsistencies on! Can the 5:2 change hormone balances? Is this why the scales isn't being kind to me? I dunno, but it certainly explained part of the funk!

Scorpion11 replied to soonerorlater's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thx u soonerorlater, I really needed to hear positive feedback. Today marks 1wk post-op and the pain the night before was simply hell. Yesterday I focus on passes gas ( sorry tmi) it helped, but walking is just not cutting it. I'm sooooo lucky my son is process of opening up his organic all natural tea business. After drinking milk of magnesia I felt so nauseated, he made me an 8oz cup of peppermint leaves tea. OMG!!!! It helped right away, took away nausea and the gas pain and helped pass more gas. I slept through the whole night. ****Peppermint tea is now priority to drink day! I've been waking up feeling super shaky, do you or anyone else during your 2 weeks of post-op?? Does it stop?? I'm drinking plenty of fluids, bs at normal. It freaks me out.
