Not saying you should... but when I was in the ER they made me drink like 33oz of water and CT contrast super fast through a straw and I had no issues. *shrug* I really prefer straws... cold stuff hurts my front teeth. I'm avoiding them though. For now. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

So anxious!

That's so good to hear. I hope they do go fast! I changed from the lap band to the sleeve also. -
@@619Raf Hello, I'm a type one diabetic and sleeved. normal range is 70-120 fasting. I now have more low blood sugars after surgery. I use my insulin once in a great while. My dietitian gave me advice that if my blood sugar drops to drink watered down orange juice. When its watered down it doesn't upset my tummy as much. I also have glucose tablets with me when I'm out of the house.

I didn't cheat on it as, like many, I didn't have a pre-op diet other than the empty the GI tract thing the day before surgery. It all depends upon your surgeon and how sensitive he is to the need to do such a diet - some are quite specific that they don't think that you did their diet when they get inside that they will close you up and have you try again (though I have never actually seen anyone have this happen,) while others could care less about the diet as they know what they are doing in there irrespective the liver shrinking thing (or whatever rationale they are using.) Some quite specifically don't want their patients fasting for weeks ahead of surgery as they want them as strong and healthy as possible going into surgery - all kinds of different philosophies out there. The best thing is to follow their instructions as you want them as comfortable as possible when they are rooting around in your insides. Note to lurkers and early researchers - it is best to find out about these policies as early as possible - as questions when you go to that first informational seminar rather than find out once you are committed to the practice and it's too late to change.

Sleeve buddy needed in the Seattle area, surgery date 9/17/2014
michelle*maplevalley replied to Pamela870's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi I live in Maple Valley Wa. I was sleeved on 9/17. I started dropping weight really fast then during week three I had a set back I stalled on my weight for 2 days and gained one pound. However, I think it might be the blended foods I was eating. I am going back to what I was eating in week 2. I just don't want to screw up and gain any weight. -
I know its getting closer i keep eating hopefully things turn around fast. i can't believe how much i've been eating

I was banded in March. I'm not losing as fast, but I'm happy that I'm atleast finally losing. You are doing a wonderful job. Congratulations on your 61 pounds, that's really great. And welcome to the site.

How do you over drink your liquids? Do you mean too fast or too much? You can't drink "too much" at this stage because that's all your doing. Lol. At least 32oz/day plus 3-4 Protein drinks is what our nut said. And I'm 3 wks out and don't get full either. I know when to stop when I feel it in my throat. I'm still learning the new feelings.

pre-op gal with some questions
rbailey60 replied to suri's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, you are not supposed to drink alcohol for at least two years. My suggestion is to give up the smokes and give up the drinking as well since alcohol has empty calories and can bring up your weight very fast not to mention alcohol will not make you feel very well when you drink it. Be sure to read all the literature BEFORE your surgery. -
That is great the amount that you have lost. I am thinking about staying away from the carbs. Do you think that is why you lost all that way so fast... what does your breakfast lunch and dinner plan look like. I am struggling with what I can eat. I was just banded on 1/9/2010. thanks Jenn

Moving Really Fast- Surgery on 1/26/10
kiniharri posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello everyone, my name is Kini and I live in Dallas, Texas. I decided over the holiday that I no longer wanted to continue this cycle of yo yo dieting and disappointment. I had considered the lap band last year, but talked myself out of it. So with the new year I made a consultation appointment on Jan 5, 2009. Two days later they had my insurance approval. This week I had my lab work done and was cleared by the cardiologist. I start my pre op diet Tuesday and see the Dr Felts on Thursday. My surgery day is Jan 26th! Is it just me or is that moving along super fast!!!!! I'm really nervous about this. Is it normal for things to move so quickly or has the good Lord just removed all the obstacles? Has anyone had their surgery by Dr Frank Felts @ the Surgery Center at Craig Ranch? What was your experience? I really haven't had an opportunity to REALLY research this doctor. Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated. -

OMG! Your post was music to my ears! It put a lump in my throat. :blushing: In a good way though. The emotions that you described, are the emotions that I am experiencing as of now. I am so anxious to get my approval and yet so scared that they will call me with a denial. It messes with my mind and emotions so much, I can't wait to get an answer. I get sad, just like you mentioned, when ieveryone else is posting their stories of being banded already. I know that I will be standing in the postion that you are and realize that everything REALLY did go fast. Meanwhile, I am here in limbo, waiting...... Thank you much for sharing your story! I really enjoyed. It gave me hope and encouragement. Thanks again  -
Could It Be Happening Too Fast?
Forensikchic replied to kcage's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have struggled with my weight for over 20 years, yoyoing away. I heard about this surgery in April of 2011 at a seminar. I found out my insurance didnt cover it so I tried to put it out of my mind and keep trying on my own. Then, in July, my husband got a new job with new insurance. I started looking to see if they covered it. They did and I scheduled to attend a seminar with a different surgeon the next day (a saturday). They talked about all the different wls options and I knew then and there the sleeve was definately for me. I found out there that Humana, my new insurance, doesnt cover the sleeve unless your bmi is over 50. I was devastated until a nice guy who was there starting talking to my hubby. He said listen, forget the insurance, just self pay. they have financing with no interest for 18 months. Thats what I did. We talked about it and decided we could do it. I scheduled an appointment with the surgeon there for Monday, two days later. I went to see him and we talked for an hour. He said I was a perfect candidate and he thought I was ready. I had to have a psych eval but everything else was a go. I already see a therapist and she wrote a letter for me that week. My surgery was scheduled for the following MOnday!!! I had seven days until my date and so my preop liquid diet started that day. There was no time to think about it. From Seminar to surgery was 9 days. I had my EKG and bloodwork done during that 7 days and I reported for surgery at 6am Monday, aug 8, 2011. That was seven months and 73 pounds ago. I had 100 pounds to lose. I was 234 and I am 5'4". I was wearing a size 18-20, mostly 20's and 1x tops. I am now wearing mostly 10's some 12's and medium tops. I dont regret it at all. I am glad it went fast so I didnt have time to dwell on it. I had no complications with the surgery, recovery went smooth. I did have a kidney stone a few weeks later but it wasnt related to the sleeve. I have a long family history of them and I was a little dehydrated after the surgery so it happened. I am just telling you that I think I am the fastest person to ever get sleeved from seminar to surgery. Its the best decision I ever made. I was emotional the night before with the usual anxiety but I knew I needed to do this for me. I knew I would love being able to eat my favorite things and this time be able to control how much of those things I ate. Now, I just eat a few bites and I am so full and satisfied. You will love your sleeve and you will be happy you didnt have to wait forever to get it. Embrace your good luck! You will do great! -

When I was little and we would eat at a smorgasboard (yesteryear's "all-you-can-eat"), my mother would always tell me to be careful that my eyes didn't get bigger than my stomach--meaning don't take more food than you can eat. My eyes are bigger than my stomach now! I'm a great cook and I love the food I make (even the lean, low-fat, "healthy" food). I have decent restriction with my second fill so far--yeah for that! BUT I always want to eat more than my new stomach can hold--it tastes so good! I'm not "head hungry" when I eat; I eat when I'm physically hungry. Funny thing is though, that I probably end up eating less than I could if I slowed down and took smaller bites--because I get "too-full-not-another-bite" really fast! How long before your mind catches up with your new stomach? Does it ever? Or are you always left wanting just a little bit more?

I am 53 and lapbanded on 9/20/12.
Annette Corrado replied to Annette Corrado's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey lapbander, I forgot to say that I log my calories as of 1/1/2014 on myfitnesspal. I eat organic now and only fish as of 1/2014 and no processed foods. I eat every meal from my cookin and kitchen...........LOL. I preplan my meals on Sunday night. I put in plastic one cup portion size. I drink no bubbles of anykind and no refined "carbs". I exercise 60 min per day-usually 5 days a week. I do Swim-Bike-Run and I am a TRIATHLETE at 53 I just finished my first race in May. I NEVER would have thought I could do a race-ever-but I trained an crossed the finish line-"not a jet-set time" but I got a medal for 3rd in my age group. I have not been a fast loser on this journey about a half a pound a week. I exercise quite a bit to get the last fat off my body which is my legs and rear end. My top half of my body is all gone-normal-and my breast have deflated to nothing. I now use "shoulder" pads in my bra which makes nice "fake boobies"............LOL Overall, I feel good and my legs no longer hurt and my back does not pain me after work. I have lost about 1" so now I am 5 2" not 5 3" perhaps due to age and bone loss. food choices is the key and amount with the lapband. I never eat over 3 ounces of food- to overeat means trouble! I hate my lapband at times due to that I cannot eat my foods that I ate before-but then again if I ate those foods I would be back to obesity. I never want to return to my former self again;overweight and unhappy with myself. I keep saying that it took me how long to get myself into this "80lbs gain" so I cannot do it overnight. I have learned that I am a emotional eater with I "never" knew and I eat out of "comfort" like people who use drugs or other things to cover the pain or emotional stressor. I have did some deep thoughts about "why I eat" and how to avoid the mindless eating due to just being "just sad" This is a mental journey so your going to change in every way. Remember, on this WL journey , relationships will change and so will you. -
i'm with mike i do whey protein shakes, slim fast, SF jello, cream bases soups and broth of course. i need variety! LOL!

I think I drank it too fast or maybe it was a combination of being to much as well. Anyhow, it's a great restrictive mechanism. I surely learned my lesson! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Banded 1/9/08, first adjustment not until March!!!
nadean replied to AlisaH's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Did they tell you why you had to wait until March? I got banded on the 16th and I am scheduled for my 1st fill on February 11th. I'm doing okay right now so I don't know if I will need a fill but they told me at my pre-op appt to call asap after my surgery to schedule my fill because they get full fast and then you have to wait longer. I guess some doctors are more conservative than others with their fills. -
Motivation after the first year
AZhiker replied to Bypass2018's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had NEVER "competed" in athletic events as an adult until after WLS. Yes, I was walking a lot and hiking, but I had not actually swum laps or ridden a bike in decades. Then a friend talked me into a sprint triathlon (swim 400 m, bike 14,2 miles, run/walk 5K). I thought, "I can do that now, " so I registered. I got a bike that suited me and started swimming. Oh my goodness, it was hard. I discovered my old shoulder injuries prevented me from a freestyle stroke, so I did my best with breast stroke. My ortho forbids me to run on my knee replacement, so I walk fast. It was a lot of work, but the fact that I had committed to someone and had registered, made me stick with it. When I finished, and got my participation medal, I was in tears - it was such a milestone moment. I have committed to another one in March - same distances, but now I have a lot more baseline training under my belt and I am working to perfect my breast stroke, learn to speed walk, and am working on my biking efficiency. I only want to better my own time - not beat anyone else, like that is even possible! I also am registered for the 50 mile bike race/ride in 10 days. Again, I might have given up if I had not already paid and made the commitment - and... I want another participation medal! So I think those paying registrations (especially if they go to a worthy cause) help to keep me on track with regular training. It would me so easy to skip a riding day, but I can't do that with a 50 mile event coming up. I also want to hike the 830 mile AZ trail, and have several friends who also want to do that . So we are marking our calendars for which segments we will do first. Next October we have committed to 2 northern segments that include the Grand Canyon - down and up in one day. (No medal, but I will definitely buy an "I did it" T-shirt! So I will need to get in a lot of hiking miles before that really BIG event! No room for failure - failure means a very expensive evacuation! Again, it is about built in accountability - making a commitment and having fun with people you know, -
I Need to Ask Some Questions
jillw8 replied to x4achange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can guarantee you the feelings you are having are normal. You are not alone. To answer some of your questions: The feeling of trapped air does go away. I think it is just our bodies adjusting to this major change. Keep taking your PPI, should help the reflux issues. I count the Water in Protein shakes. I also count Jello, Popsicles, and ang other liquid. Fast weight loss is normal in the beginning! It will slow. You are doing great and I had to remind myself that I went through a major surgery and it changed my life. Hang in there!!! Jill
