    Stall

@@reece1239 they happen...I am currently on a 3 week stall...Christmas filled carb holiday didn't help. back on the wagon now :]
  2. That video is awesome. I knew about the 3 week stall but i had no clue on why.
  3. I had my surgery on 1-16, Friday, and came home on Sunday. Really I think I healed quite well and quickly. I saw my Surgeon on 2-3 for my first check up and was down 30 lbs from the first day I met him on December 30th. Yes, I was a happy camper! Luckily someone at our local support group mentioned Bariatric Pal. I've been here daily since, this is my first post. From the day of my two week checkup until today I hadn't lost a single pound. My Surgeon did ok me to move to chewable foods because I was doing so well, but I'm still only eating 3 smalls meals, no more than 3 ounces each and no Snacks, no Protein drinks. I was really freaking out about not loosing, how can you consume so little and not loose at all. That's when I started searching the forums here and found I wasn't nearly as unique as I thought I was, many here had already had and bypassed the 3 week stall. It doesn't make the frustration leave entirely but it sure helped know others walked my walk and this too would change. Today, after seven days of nothing and I'm finally down another pound, I think perhaps this will be my turning point for this stall anyway. I've had a couple of episodes with the food, both Saturday and Sunday I was sick, but I think I figured out the culprits and if any of you have had a reaction to food and had it come up instead of going down, you'll know as I do, you don't want to repeat it if at all possible. My only other problem was I was okay'd to go back to the gym, even the weights as long as I did them light and slow. We went Monday and I overdid. I walked the treadmill for 30 minutes, rested, had Water and then did a couple of the machines before the room started swimming. I had to take the elevator to the main floor with help on both sides of me so I didn't pass out. Not a good feeling at all. I guess a little goes a long ways, this was scary! The Doctor's office called yesterday to reschedule my next appt and in the course of the conversation I confessed my little bumps along my new path. She connected me to the sweetest nurse, Jessica, who says, are you on BP medicine? Have you taken your BP? Well start today and keep a record that might be part of it along with overdoing. This is such a learning process! Every day I learn something more and I love this website, love all the information I glean from all that have gone before me. I don't regret having the surgery for one moment these are just little hiccups and I'll get through them. After all this is forever so a little snag here and there is nothing!

    Weight loss halted

It's called the 3 week stall. In fact, it's famous. Use the search function on here or visit the stall forum. You will see that EVERYONE goes through this and the answers to your questions have already been posted dozens of times. But in the end, the best thing to do is stick to your diet plan and STAY OFF THE SCALE!!!!

    first stall

June 17th surgery here, I had a 3 week stall that ended this past week.
  6. Hello All, I had my RNY on 8/4 and lost almost 25 lbs in two weeks. At week 3 my weight loss stalled and I keep gaining and losing the same 5 lbs. from 175-180. I’m only 5ft 4 so this is way too soon for this! I eat about 600 calories a day, hitting the 50-60grams in protein and usually 50 carbs or so. I’m not cleared for exercise but in all honestly I’ve been lazy and tired so no exercise. Where could I be going wrong?!
  7. It is normal to be thinking like you are. I think most of us do the same thing. It looks like you lost most of the easy weight before surgery. Many of us lose a bunch in the preop diet and the rest of the easy stuff in the first month post op then it slows down considerably. After my 3 week stall which lasted 2.5 weeks I am back to losing about 4 or 5 pounds a week. I anticipate that slowing down considerably as I pass 2 months post op. I obsess over weight from day to day and I know I shouldn't be looking at it every day but I do anyway. I find if I UNDER EAT then my body holds on to the weight a little more, like I am going into starvation preservation internally. I upped my calorie intake from 750-800 to 850-900 and it seems like the weight is coming off again. I tinker with things when I slow down to see if I can get it going again. The nutritionist is good about giving ideas on what to try.

    Any one from Texas?

As far as feeling normal again it took me just a bit over a month to feel normal. And I never walked hunched over after my surgery so I'm not sure about that one. I concur. It's been 4 weeks from my surgery today. I just went back to work. It really took 2.4-3 weeks before I felt semi-normal. I was pretty shocked and disappointed initially bc it seems that many people have an easy recovery. I normally bounce back quickly but this was not the case with the sleeve. I never regret doing it, and I was very prepared for what could happen, I just always thought what could happen would not happen to me. Again, I had no major leaks but I did pull an internal stitch (worst pain I've ever had), had hibernation syndrome, and hit the annoying "3 week stall" in the middle of week 2 for a out 10 days. Stay positive. It will get so much better and easier. Just listen to what your body needs because your body will speak to you in a language only you can understand. Hope all is well!

Tell me about odd weight loss patterns

    After my surgery, on 8/17, I purposely did not weight myself until my first post-op appt. I knew I would be swollen, etc. and I had read about the 3 week stall. I thought I would give you my weekly weights and show you how I've lost. It certainly hasn't been consistent, but overall I am very pleased. 9/7/2015 234.4 -3 9/14/2015 230.2 -4.2 9/21/2015 228 -2.2 9/28/2015 224 -4 10/5/2015 223 -1 10/12/2015 217 -6 10/19/2015 215.2 -1.8 10/26/2015 214.6 -0.6 11/2/2015 213.6 -1 11/9/2015 214.2 0.6 gain 11/16/2015 210.4 -3.8 11/23/2015 208.4 -2 11/30/2015 203.4 -5 12/7/2015 206.8 3.4 gain 12/14/2015 204.6 -2.2 12/21/2015 200.2 -4.4
  10. You're not doing anything wrong. The shock of surgery can cause you to retain and even gain weight. I gained 10# in the hospital. It took me awhile to get that back off. Then I went through the 3 week stall. It was a little while before I got the ball to rolling, but after I did it for sure gathered no moss. Just have patience. Every-one's journey is different. YOU WILL LOSE!! Best wishes :0)
  11. At just under 3 weeks post op I gained weight then stalled for a week and a half. I wanted to scream. I felt like I was doing something wrong. After reading about this infamous "3 week stall" on here, then double checking that I was getting in all of my Protein, Water, & Vitamins, and making sure I was getting some exercise daily, I just let it go. I started weighing in only once a week and also started doing my measurements once a week. It sucked but apparently it really is just part of the process. If you know you are doing things the way you should be, trust that your body is behaving the way it should. I know that's WAY easier said then done but hopefully if enough people tell you they have been there, done that and it's normal you'll be able to get through it a little easier. It really does sound like you're doing great, keep it up!

    1200 Calories?

You're at the infamous 3-week stall. Just keep doing what you're doing (and personally, I think you're doing great to be getting in as much as you are!). The 3-week stall hits almost all of us. That feeling that seems like hunger may well be excess acid--are you on a PPI or other antacid medication? A lot of folks need that after surgery. If it's true hunger, then yeah, eat something on your "approved foods" list, focusing on getting your Water and Protein in first. Every person is different, and we all respond differently to stuff. Hang in there--that stall is going to break, and you're on your way!!

    STUCK

Ok everyone. I had about a 3 week stall. Then, all of a sudden-BOOM. I lost 14lbs. Couldn't believe it. So, don't give up and don't get discouraged. I can now eat about 3/4 cup of food 6 weeks out. My vice is Jamba juice smoothies. I drink about 3 oz twice a week. I feel like it's bad because it tastes so good.
  14. Looking for opinions, I have been following my post op diet with no cheating and I though I was doing well.... True I lost 14lbs at week two and have been stalled for 2 weeks but I assumed it was the dreaded 3 week stall. Now at my one month appointment I am told that the week 3 stall isn't real and that this is my fault for sure (not my words). What is everyone's opinion on the legitimacy of the week 3 stall?

Scale vs. clothes vs. how you feel

I had my surgery feb 10 this year. I JUST came out of a 3 week stall! The scale did not move for 3 whole weeks. Then yesterday I had lost a lb and then today I had lost another lb. I didn't do anything diff. I was freaking out! My nutritionist said our bodies have defense mechanisms that cause us to hold onto stuff cuz it thinks its starving. I just started to work out do I'm hoping that will move my scale more. I've now lost 32 lbs since the start of my pre op diet. I started at 278 and now I'm 246. My goal weight is between 150 and 165. So I now have less than 100 lbs to lose!
  16. So Im 6 months post-op and down 91.5 pounds. I have just dropped 4 pounds after a 3 week stall and then dropping my cals super low for 2 days. My problem is today I am feeling super hungry! It is most likely just in my head but I am thinking of food all the time.On days like this I do tend to grab something here, take a bite there and even though I dont do more carbs I do more calories. Why am I the only one that feels 800 calories are so little? I track on fitday.com com as MFP seems to be geared to the US food market and I find fitday so much easier but damn,my 800 is finished long before the day. And please tell me,how are you ok on a Protein shake for dinner?(I often see people doing just that) I just cannot give up on the idea of eating food. Not rubbish but real food. How do you overcome the head that thinks about food?why is this so difficult for me? Please help!

    3 weeks out...struggling!

My 3-week stall lasted for 2 weeks. I didn't gain anything, but I didn't lose either. I just fluctuated 1-2 pounds either way. I was really challenged with getting Protein in too until I found Ensure High Protein shakes. I chill the milk chocolate flavor and it tastes like a chocolate malt, not gritty and no bad aftertaste. Best of all, each bottle has 25g protein, only 5g sugar and 210 calories as well as a lot of Vitamins and minerals. They also come in vanilla, dark chocolate and strawberry but I haven't tried those so I can't tell you how they taste. The only drawback is they are a bit pricey at $9.99/4-pack, but considering that per bottle it is only one-third the price of the Big Mac value meals I used to buy, it is ok with me. I also like that I can grab it and go, no messing with a blender, multiple ingredients and all of that. Water was really hard to get down and is still my least favorite beverage, so I mix Crystal Light with it or choose light juices or diet sodas (flattened until about 6-8 weeks post-op). Good luck!

    Two weeks post-op

I am 3 weeks post op and have lost roughly 17lbs since day of surgery. I haven't lost anything this week and am just hearing about the 3 week stall. But I think u are on the right track with lbs lost although I know everyone is different.
  19. you have to eat to lose weight! If you undereat, your body will hold onto the fat, you are starving it, and it wont let it go! I upped my calories after a 3 week stall, and dropped 3 LBS that week! I'm averaging between 1,100 and 1,300 every day and am losing 1.2-3 lbs per week. Eat your protein, drink your water, exercize at least 3-4 times per week, you will lose! It's all math.
  20. I think I've hit another stall. I'm still losing but only about a pound a week. I have been trying to get over 1200 calories a day and its hard. I'm eating high calorie foods and not gaining but not losing as much. I passed the 3 week stall. Now I guess I'm in a new stall. Any tips ? I'm so close to my goal.
  21. It sounds like you are on the 3 week stall. I think we both did a good thing by putting the scale away. We just started our journey and are doing the right things, we just have to be patient I guess : ) after all we didnt put it on over night and we cant take it off over night.

    The yo-yo effect?

Its a lovely ole stall. I am 5 mths out and I've had 3 stalls. 1 lasted a week. 1 lasted 3 weeks and this one has been a month long. When I come off a stall I drop 4 or 5 pounds in a few days then it levels out to 2lbs a week. Usually if I up my calories a bit it will break the stall. The 3 week stall was awful....I did everything I can think of and I stayed stuck. This stall I'm on now I think is the result of hormones on top of a regular stall. And I started the stall after a week of having Christmas Cookies (just 1 or 2) everyday for about 5 days. This stall is killing me! But, I know it will eventually start coming off again in due time. I know I'm doing everything right so theres no reason for it other than my body adjusting to everything again. Part of the process is what I'm told

    8 days out!!

Congrats!!! It is pretty dang awesome huh? Don't freak out when you hit the 2-3 week stall. It happens for most people some where in that time frame. For me it was in between weeks 2-3. I have started losing again this week and I am staying in this groove as long as I can ..lol

    Post Surgery

My weight loss has been slow, too. In fact, I had a 3 week stall only one week after surgery. My NUT told me that people lose at different rates. Some people's insides take longer to heal than others. Sometimes it takes longer for some people to get over the shock of the surgery to their bodies. It is important not to compare your weight loss to others. Each journey will be different. The important thing to concentrate on is getting in your liquids and Protein and to exercise as much as you are able. The weight loss may be slower at first, but will eventually move right along. It is hard to get everything in at first, but is so important to the healing process. I was getting in 60 grams of protein each day; my NUT wants me to try to get in around 75. It is hard when we have waited so long for this tool. It is hard when we see others report great weight loss in the first month or so after surgery. Nevertheless, each journey is as different as each person taking it. The tool has proved itself to be useful and reliable. Hang in there! And if you need to step away from the scale for a bit - do so. Good luck on your journey!

Going on 3 weeks in this stupid stall

Well, I've lost 82 in 6 months. If I wasn't in a 3 week stall, I probably could have gotten there. Stupid stall....
