    Our 1 Year Bandiversaries

Hey guys!!! I was banded on December 1st. I started out at 330 and now I weigh 210 pounds. I have absolutely nothing to wear, but I'm counting that as a NSV! I feel so much lighter, don't have foot pain or joint pain, and have so much energy! People almost every day make comments about how I'm shrinking as I see lots of different people through work. I gained a boyfriend along the way who is great. It's not perfect and I've definitely had my ups and downs, but this lapband thing is the only thing I've tried over the years and years of dieting that is working for me. I look at food very differently now. I haven't eaten bread in months. I haven't been at this weight since high school and I'm 30 years old. I'm really excited. I still have 35 pounds to lose to get to goal, but I am still losing consistently, even though it has slown down from the initial momentum. I have met alot of great people on the lap band and WLS sites and have sort of figured this thing out through trial and error--what I can eat, what I can't, what I feel like when I'm too tight...This year has been so full of changes! A year ago, I couldn't even picture myself at this weight. It seemed impossible. I still have a nagging voice that reminds me that I could gain it all back in a minute, but I don't think that I will. I've made permanent behavior changes and nutrition changes that I'm hoping will last a lifetime. This is the best thing that has ever happened for me! I'm so proud of myself and for all of you!!!!

<p>OH Julie:</p> <p> </p> <p>Doesn't sound like boasting to me. Sounds more like an NSV!</p>
  4. I too am over 50 and I enjoy your telling it like is. This is just a tool. If we make the right decisions, it helps. If we make the wrong decisions, it's useless. Keep it up. You body is eating away the fat and you are seeing NSVs. Sounds like a success story to me.
  5. Whatever her reasons/motivations may be, they don't matter. Bottom line is what you said yourself: You have only known this woman for 4 months. Why do you care what she says? Why give her this power? Just remember, living well is the best revenge. You can smile sweetly (and ever so slightly smugly) as you bask in your success. Each size dropped, each NSV and each compliment from anyone within earshot will be that much better knowing you did the right thing for YOU. :frown: Don't let the turkeys get you down. They aren't worth the platters they'll eventually be served on. kagead
  6. Scratching your right or left upper back / shoulder blade with opposite arm by reaching up from bottom. Yay! Getting pretty flexible...
  7. I forgot to post this the other day.. Went shopping with my younger step sister and was trying on clothing... The jeans that I had just bought there a month ago were a bit loose, so I scooped up the same ones in a lower size ...yep. Size 8. Hello. SINGLE DIGIT JEANS!!!!!!!!!! Already wearing smalls in most dresses and tops, but THIS was a big one!!! Could likely go to 6 when these last pounds come off around my waist... 4's after a tummy tuck....Hot damn! NSV on steroids. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. Okay so my week started off with a NSV(maybe). I live in NC but home for me is SC, so I went home this past weekend and I haven't been to my home church in over a year, although I go home at least once a month. Well I decided to surprise my grandmother by attending church but I didn't tell her that I was coming home or to church. So my husband & I get to church on Sunday and my grandmother is already seated, I go up to her and give her a hug & kiss on the cheek and sit down. Well halfway thorough the service she touches my hand and whispers in my ear that she didn't recognize who I was, she said that if it wasn't for my husband sitting with me she wouldn't have known until church was over. Now mind you she has seen me within the last month but I guess since I have lost a few more inches she didn't realize that it was me. At first I didn't know whether I should be elated or offended, but then I realized I must be "ROCKING MY SLEEVE" . Then this morning I get on the scale (which I normally do on Tuesdays but b/c my hubby had knee surgery on Tuesday I was preoccupied) and it read 199.8(5 months post op 08/13) WHOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't been under 200lbs in 14yrs. This is the best that I have felt in a long time and I know that it will only get better. My next goal is to be 185 on my 6 month follow up in September.

    Goals/NSV's

My NSV today. I was able to fit back into my size 18 non-stretch capris. YAY!! :laugh I'm wearing them tonight! MOMBA- I see ya with ya sexy self. Struttin your stuff!! :wow2:
  10. I HAVE GREAT NEWS!!! you know, ever since i got this band, i really have not committed myself to the necessary practices to achieve marked success...thus i have only lost 20 tiny little lbs since march. but today, i had an NSV that was not even weight related!! i completely attribute this NSV to my band, and the way that it has, indeed, modified my behavior. i go for a tweak tomorrow. i have been beating myself up, like i do before every fill because i have not lost more weight. in a moment of weakness, i bought a king size pack of reece's pb cups. got to the car, could not even weight...i mean wait...to get out of the parking lot and i had the package ripped open. i stopped to get gas, thinking i would finish the pack off while waiting on the money meter to stop rolling. would you believe that i finished the one single cup and did not want anymore? i was actually able to recognize that the single cup was enough to satisfy the madness. i tickle myself sometimes...i know, that's perverted, i shouldnt do that...AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! i am so happy!
  11. I think that 60% average is expected if a person eats moderately well, is moderately active and really leans heavily on the sleeve to define weight loss. There is nothing wrong with this and many will be satisfied with this level of success. However, a person can also achieve 100% if they work on making good / excellent food choices and implements a consistent and active physical lifestyle. Everyone has access to different levels of success depending on their goals, motivation and desire. Visualize your success, find heroes / mentors and be like them, keep your eyes on the prize, don't give up, put your focus on the small NSVs and accentuate the positive. You will develop and grow attributes of success. Good luck in your own sleeve journey!
  12. How long have you been banded? 8 months April 5th What have you learned from this experience? Patience! For me it is slow and steady wins the race.. Could you share your most rewarding NSV (non-scale victory)? Putting on a pair of jeans that have been hanging in my closet forever. Wearing them today!! What is your biggest challenge? I am a carb-o-holic and HUGE boredom eater.. gotta keep busy! What tips or advice would you pass on to newbies? Everyone is different and you have to find what works best for you! What is your greatest fear? That I hit a plateau and don't lose anymore! What goals do you have for the future? Keep losing weight and being healthier, start a family with my fiance (once I get married in May!), get my degree so I can teach How has your life changed? I have more self confidence, happier, feel like I am in control for the first time in a LONG time.. Has living with the band met up to your expectations? DEFINATELY.. best decision I ever made for myself If you could talk to yourself prior to being banded, what would you say? You are worth it and what are you waiting for??!!
  13. My husband and I go to dance classes/social dancing every Monday night. Usually it's me saying that I've had enough and it's time we headed home. Not tonight! He had to go to a meeting so I joined our friends for dinner and then we all headed off to dancing. By the time my husband arrived I had learnt a new line dance and done the warm up dance. We skip beginners because the floor is filled but we are first up for social dancing and then intermediates. Our usual finish time came and went and I was still rocking, Charleston kicking and having a ball. Eventually my husband said he was tired and we needed to call it quits but I had another dance in me so joined a new waltz solo before he finally dragged me off the floor. What a buzz!

    Week 6: May 27-31st Sleevers

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the well wishes. They worked! I am now feeling a LOT better, dare I say "normal." I am down 65 lbs from surgery and I am really happy with what that looks like on my body. NSVs that made me smile include... Other day, we pulled up to the bus stop as the bus was at the corner but there was a line of about 10 cars. i jumped out and started running full on towards the bus with my 7 year old daughter. She yelled, "HOLD UP MOM I CANT RUN THAT FAST!" I was not out of breath and wheezing when I arrived at the end of the block. I've been demoted from "Womens" to "Misses" section aka 85% of clothing stores are open to me now, not just Lane Bryant, Catherines and Avenue (none of which I really like the style of.) I also do not have to purchase specially sized bras that cost $50 a piece. Had to buy an anniversary ring in my current size to hold my other rings off cause they literally were falling off. Darn, more jewelry. A Male coworker, married and platonically friendly, saw me washing my soup bowl in the kitchen and said "DANG you have lost a lot of weight! What is your secret?" "High protein, low carb!" What made me smile more than usual is he only saw my back side to make him say that I have collarbones and a dip at the bottom of my neck. They are concave. That's new.

    Week 6: May 27-31st Sleevers

Ditto. Really want to stay in touch with the May 2014 group. I love the NSVs and meal selections.
  16. DJmohr, Congratulations on your NSV. Honestly, I treasure these more than the number on the scales! Way to go- looking forward to hearing more of these from you and others on this journey. I am 12 weeks out from my VSG surgery and a slow loser ( but at 61 I didn't expect it to be an overnight thing anyway). Today since its in the 100 degree range in Dallas, I was scrounging through a box of old, pre-weight gain clothes for some shorts in a size 14 or 16. While looking I saw a dress I wore about 4 years ago, a size 12. Just on a lark I decided to try it on and to my amazement it fit , not even tight at all! I did a happy dance right then and there. Like you, I did this for health, but the improvement of self image is an important part of the recovery process and keeping the motivation in high gear. Although I wasn't seeing the weight loss everyone congratulated me on, today it finally registered. I'll second the Woot !

    What Does Nsv Stand For?

NSV is any accomplishment or victory that you've achieved that doesn't include a scale. It could be a smaller clothing size, someone paid you a compliment about your weight loss, fitting to an airplane seat or another seat, crossing your legs, etc. anything that maybe you wouldn't or couldn't do before. It's a victory to be celebrated even if the scale isn't moving (or if it's not moving enough or the right way!) Celebrate every little thing and be proud of what you've accomplished. It's the little things that add up to big success.

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

Deez, you'll be back to losing in no time! I'm glad to hear your clothes are looser...that's an awesome NSV
  19. Hi all! Had a great NSV today. I'm moved to "severely obese" now rather than being "morbidly obese" thanks to my 4 pound weight loss this week! That's 80.4 pounds down so far in this journey! I've had to get new clothes because my old ones are just falling off. Great problems to have! HW 322 (March 2013) SW 278 (Dec 16, 2013) CW 241.6
  20. I can't wait for that moment! I can't even remember the last time I could cross my legs comfortably. It's gotta be more than 10 years. Congrats on that awesome NSV!!
  21. And a 1 year after update for you all. I went from not being able to cross my legs, to cross in the shape of a figure 4, well last night I crossed them and I almost make a Roman Numeral I, I used to envy my late father-in- law, a tall thin normal- proportioned Dutchman, cause He Could and I Never Could, well today I CAN and. even wrap one foot around behind the other like I've seen Fox News Ladies do, so their undies aren't in view. Whooee, Yippee Yahoo, I'm almost NORMAL & AVERAGE in appearance, Another NSV that I never planned for, they just keep coming and I πŸ’•each and every new thing about ME I FIND!πŸ‘ˆπŸ˜›πŸ‘‰

10 Wks Post Op W/ Pic

I'm finally in the 170's!!! I'm so relieved to see the 170's I can't tell you! My primary goal is 169 lbs, and my birthday is in 2 weeks. Today I weighed in at 177.9, which means I'm only 8 lbs away from my goal- most importantly my birthday is in 2 weeks!!!!! I want so badly to make my goal by my birthday, a present I've never really been able to give myself before. I have friends coming to visit me and I'd like to get dressed up in a fabulous tight dress and show everyone AND take pics!! I still haven't told the rest of my social world about my surgery (not really planning too) but I also haven't posted ANY pics since my weight loss started, and now every time someone see's me they kind of freak out a little bit. So I figure my birthday in two weeks is a great coming out party for weight loss pics, and even bigger motivator to get this last 8 lbs off! I can do this! And my NSV this week? NSV... my skinny jeans/pants I bought in Nurnberg, Germany years ago on the Euro size chart at H&M... FIT! Like a glove. Hallelujia! About a size 9/10 on the American standard. Here is my before and after 2.5 months after surgery! Size 16 to size 9/10!!!! Check out the before and after below!!
