Ima Loser replied to Breeg89's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did your doctor tell you that you had to loose a certain amount of weight before surgery? I am having surgery tommorow too and my doctor told me I didn't need to do the pre-op diet... I have been kind of panicing these past few days, but I guess I just figure my Dr knows best... I haven't gone crazy with my eatting but I am afraid to weigh myself bc I don't want to have gained weight! -

:help: i have bc/bs of ill. after months and months of testing, labs etc. following there requirements to the T. they approved me on 11/17/06 or should i say pre certified. approve the hospital stay and not the biatric surgery. on 11/18/06 they said i had a exclusion in my policy. my question is when they are review your case and requesting all kinds of information. do they not also review you policy. i am doing the research now to appeal my case. at the time of the so called approval they called my doctors office and schedule my surgery on 12/04/06. and now i am left hang and depressed. after years and years of being over weight i finally, after alot of research and soul searching desided this is my only solution. any one out there with any hope...:phanvan :help:

Federal BCBS (standard) Good or Bad experiences?
PuffyOne2014 posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
I have a BMI of almost 35 and continue to gain weight, despite my brief successes, it is just a matter of time until I put back on anything I might lose. Has anyone else worked with BCBS fed? Any tips or advice? -
The “no reds” liquid diet is for people about to have a colonoscopy. My mom had just had one when I was getting ready for my liquid diet. I had to ask bc my doc didn’t specify “no reds.”

Any Diabetics? Learning new insulin dosages
BajanSleeve posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a type II diabetic and 12 days post op gastric sleeve. For the last 7 days I was able to take just a few units (10 to 15 units) of rapid acting insulin to bring my sugar levels to acceptable (9-13). But now that I am able to eat more substantive foods my sugar levels are of course going up but I feel very scared to take the long acting insulin. Are there any other diabetic sleevers who can share some of your experience on controlling blood sugar after surgery and did you use long acting insulin or only short acting? I am scared of long acting and going to sleep...…...I live alone so there is no one to check on me. Of course I need to keep BS down to help my incisions heal as well as the internal staples. Incisions are healing very well, Thank God! How long did it take before you stopped needing to use insulin? -
Was banded at cibo clinic in 2012 , lost 50 pounds everything great ..then the clinic closes leaving everyone to fend for themselves unless I would like to pay an extra thousand dollars a year for care that my 18,000 dollars already paid for. They said drs. Anvari and Hong are still our drs. And if there's any issues they are there for us ...load of crap !!! I've been in constant pain for a little over a year ..no longer can I eat anything good for me ..only slider foods here because to eat anything else causes great pain. I have a 14 cc band with 8cc fill ..I have terrible left rib and shoulder pain , sinus issues , vomit all the time , feeling dizzy like vertigo , racing heart , but no one can find anything wrong ... I've tried numerous times as has my family Dr to get ahold of dr anvari ...no one ever calls back ...went to St joes emerge where both anvari and Hong work from ..to try to get un filled ...the emerge Dr says nope can't help you go back to where the band was placed ...explained what happened with cibo clinic and that drs anvari and Hong worked at cibo but emerge Dr still says we are not equipped to do un fills , I'm like seriously this is a bariactric hospital..so after spending 10 hrs on a few occasions in hospital no one will help me but they certainly didn't have a problem taking my 18,000 dollars to put it in .... I'm so sick and fed up with this band ...can anyone please help me or point me in the right direction.

I'll be sending my best vibes your way! It seems a little unfair that they would deny you NOW just bc SHE is new... But then again, after my recent go-round with my PCP, nothing surprises me. Best wishes!!! Keep us posted. 347*294/285/135 (*347HW/294SSW) | @Mwrarr | mwrarr.wordpress.com

10 Months Post Op And Sad Changes
DisappearingDivis replied to imawhodat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm sorry your going trough such a rough patch (HUG). I have to admit that one of the first thoughts through my mind when someone is divorcing after WLS is because of losing weight. But I don't think that applies to every marriage! Some have issues well before and unfortunately the emotional strain of WLS brings out every imperfection in our relationships. I've noticed that is even true of friendships. I know it's hard to ignore the BS people say but PLEASE don't let it hinder all the hard work you've done! Try and find another emotional outlet for your feelings. You've done do much in such a small amount of time. The fact that you're seeking therapy shows you have a good head on your shoulders and an open mind. Good Luck!! -
My surgery application was denied by Fed BCBS.
trekker954 replied to cyndi990's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was approved by BCBS Fed in 2016. I was required to show 2 years of BMI history. I didn't think the policy changed at all from 2016 to 2017. If was submitted DEc. 21 - they should have processed it in 2016. -
I have BC/BS of massachusetts though and have recently found this on their website regarding WLS: http://www.bcbsma.com/common/en_US/medical_policies/379.htm#billing It gives billing codes.. I hope this helps. ~Christina:Bunny

First step...call Don Mills at Inamed and ask if he has had any success with fighting the BC "experimental" thing. Sometimes, they have had the surgeons explain whay the patient is NOT a good candidate for the bypass and they get through that way. Anybody got Don's number close by? Other first step...find out if your employer is a self-pay for insurance. If so, they are actually the ones making the decisions and BC is just administering the plan. If not, they are covered by the CA state insurance commissioner (they have a web site.) They have a three times and then to outside review thing. One thing I found handy when I was on the phone pretending I was my daughter (her job at the time did not allow for personal business calls) fighting for her breast reduction with Aetna...dumb-sounding-questions-with-a-plan seem to get their attention. As in, "Okay, so does this count as the first time you've turned me down? So then, does this go to outside appeal after the second time and the third time is the outside appeal or do you have to actually turn me down three times before we go there...I'm sorry, but this is new to me and I want to make sure I understand it all." And ask everyone how to spell their name, and explain that's it's nothing personal but you know it's probably going to end up going for outside review and you at least want to spell the names correctly. Be loving and kind and their new best friend. Also, I did end up using Aetna's journal citations for our kid's appeal. If I could find a contrary opinion in the abstract, I quoted it, just like they did. if I could find a later publication by the same researcher which contradicted the first citation, I quoted it. They never DID turn her down the second time, because they knew that she was ready to go the whole way and that they would lose. Go for it. Sue

According to what I was told at a seminar BCBS will cover the lap band. Of course it depends on your coverage. CalPERS BC PPO words it really confusing but if it's medically necessary they will cover. BCBS HMO requires that you go through one of their doctors. Once again, this is what I heard at a seminar. Check with your carrier.

Me, too. And it's easier than making up your own BS...

Motivation....I believe we can motivate ourselves and succeed
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to victorisaac's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
the only thing i can offer (besides my unwavering support) is want power. you must want to lose weight bad enough to do it. (following your dr's instructions, eating better food and exercising). i dont believe in will power. i can will myself into just about anything but wanting something..that is different. find that want power deep inside and then just do it. no excuses. no drama. no BS. want it bad enough to do whatever it takes to get it done. and then do it. -
Over time I've learned to eat Protein when I want something sweet. But I'm still as large as ever. I gained all my weight in pregnancies and despite long term bfing, never lost all of it and kept adding to it w each baby. I eat a mostly organic, low carb diet rich in grass fed or pastured meat products, eggs, veggies, some fruits and Water. My down fall is if I happen to pick up or bake something like Cookies, so I just try not to. I developed a thyroid problem in my last pregnancy and it's been difficult to loose any weight even on medication for my thyroid. I can eat low calorie, I've done it before many times over, it just is not sustainable for a life time in our society or at least I fall prey to the larger portions and higher carb foods and then have to wean myself off again. But what I'm reading is that the band is temporary and when it's out, weight loss becomes a struggle again. So, I have to wonder why the Lap Band is becoming so popular over something like a Deonuel Switch or vertical gastoetomy both of which are not super popular but seem to have some very good qualities about them long term and fewer malnutrition risk compared to standard Gastric Bypass.

Lap Band Doctor Cannot Get Fill To Go In
gencs2000 replied to mwtullos's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
HI - I'm sorry to hear this - I don't have that problem but for my first fill my dr. had a hard time finding the port. He thought he round it - injected the saline and off I went. I went back 6weeks later complaining of no restriction no diff nothing!! Turns out he injected the saline into my body and not the port! He said if he has a hard time finding it this time I have to go for an exray so he will know exactly where the port is. I didn't have any problems (I make him drain the Fluid each time so I know he's in the right spot and also to make sure no leak bc I'm crazy lol). maybe you need that? Can the dr possibly be missing the port all together?? My dr. thought he had it and he didn't so maybe suggest the xray to your dr and she what he/she says. Best of luck!! -
Can you take birth control pills?
LeAnne19 replied to Pink101's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take pills, No problems. BC pills are tiny anyway -
On my dad's side of the family they all tend to be swelt My mothers side all tiny and thin... guess which side I take after. My DD who'd 4 is chunky.... she's like a fish, she'll eat until she bursts. I'm hoping now that she is in an all day daycare/school she will thin out. My Mom watched her since she was born and just fed fed fed w/out exercise (kinda like what I went thru living there as a kid lol).

Will there be issues if you eat food to early?
thelonedaisy replied to 2nd2none1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am one whos doc told i could do a liquid diet for a week then full liquids for a few days then transition to mushies. i am 15 days post op and i aould be onto more solid foods but i have kept myself at the soft mushie stage for the very reasons stated above. i have every confidence in my doc. and wouldnt go to anyone else. but when i asked about why i could transition so fast he said if it made me more comfortable i could stay with the liquid longer bit by the time i went to the mushies my stitches would have healed and i wouldnt have a problem. i am still very careful with solids bc even though i wasnt self pay it is to high a price for me to pay to cheat from what the doc told me. we are on this ride to lose weight not be bugged that we cant taste this or that. if we cant control ourselves for that little bit of time then all the work we did pre op and post op are fruitless. i figure hunger is a natural normal feeling so we might as well get used to it! and nothing tastes as good as thin feels! -
Stunned that I am 6 days away and Insurance rejected
citimom replied to citimom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My coodinator thinks it is BS; my Dr is having a "peer to peer" conference call w United Healthcare tomorrow am. Perhpas it is just another hoop in a long littany of hoops jumped thus far (not to mention the liquid D). THanks for the support. As I chose a Dr in network and I exceed the BMI cutoff by 5 and all of my paperwork is in good order.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhh:embarassed: -
I joined this forum two years ago when I was going through my insurance approval process. I eventually decided not to get the surgery about one month before it was scheduled. I started working out really hard and dieting. I lost 80lbs and felt great.....now guess what....just like every other time in my life I gained it all back. I'm active, I hike, scuba dive, swim etc...I'm not a lazy person but I just can't keep the weight off. I'm so fed up and sad. So here I am starting over and think the band might be the answer. I am concerned about the long term affects of it. I'm not really posting to get answers but hoping to find people with similar feelings. I meet with Dr. Luttrell in two weeks and Dr. Wellborn after that.

4months post op at a standstill super confused. Feeling like a failure
pandababe94 replied to NurseRosemary's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 4 months out and was going thru the same thing. I talked to my diatician and increased my calories to 1000-1100 because I wasnt eatting enough. I was constantly hungry and found myself snacking a lot. I started working out 5 days a week and my body was in starvation mode. Now I use my fitness pal and track every single thing that goes into my mouth and all of my activities. I have only one protien shake a day by primer protien bc its 30g of protien a day and only 1g of sugar. I love all their flavors. Usually I have it for breakfast with a greek yogurt. I also plan every single meal and snack for the day and put it in my fitness pal the day before. If its not in my lunch box or recorded in my fitness pal it doesn't touch my lips. Someone told me this and it has really been my montra and what keeps me so on track and dedicated to the daily planning: If you fail to plan you plan to fail. And since I have been living by this the last few weeks the scale has been finally moving.
